Absolutely loved this place. The history of the RFDS and The Bombing of Darwin is well worth the visit. It very well set up and takes u back in time to really understand the history. The virtual goggle experience was amazing taking u through the time of the bombing. Giving you a sense of what it was like. I highly recommend a visit to this place

A great interactive experience which talks you through the bombing of Darwin and the formation of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Virtual reality headsets give you a realistic view of the bombing and what it's like on the Flying Dr plane. There is an actual plane that you can enter and gain a first hand experience. Definitely worth a visit.

It doesn’t look like much but this interactive and formative place will have you mesmerised and inspired by our WWII efforts and the attack on Darwin and the birth of RFDS and how it all came about with their short screening, a must see! You can also checkout the VR headset experience of the WWII attack of Darwin harbour or RFDS medical mission of the outback. Our favourite was able to checkout the old and retired RFDS plane they had inside the museum, that was cool to look at and experience.

At first I thought it was expensive but there is so much to look at and the VR headsets are great fun. It was really worth while. Highly recommend that you visit and leave a good couple of hours to really enjoy it.

Absolutely amazing experience! Very interesting history of Royal Flying Doctor Service and also Darwin during WWII including movies and VR experience! A real RFDS PC12 aircraft (VH-FMP), which was in service for many years, makes the visit a very special as well.

This visit was an amazing experience. We were welcomed by a staff that on few words told us what can we see and what order would work best. That really saved us a lot of time. The 2 hologram stories quite informative, about the bombing of Darwin and how Royal Flying Doctor Service was born and is operated. We checked out a plane with RFDS equipment and the virtual reality experience about bombing of Darwin was quite a treat. The souvenirs store had lots of new and original items. They passed with Flying colours. Highly recommended!

This clean, modern, well laid out small museum has hidden gems. For adults and children. It uses holograms, virtual reality goggles and short interactive films and imagery to take you back in time. We learnt about the bombing of Darwin AND the achievements of the Royal Flying Doctors Service. Now I know why the founder John Flynn is on your $20 notes! A very calming place, all ground level, easy access for prams and wheelchairs, exciting and interesting for all ages. And enjoy the stroll on the Darwin harbour pier after it. You can have a drink at the bar, a meal and even fish and chips. Excellent. We used the Hop on hop off bus. So easy to get around. All ages down there and felt very safe and relaxed. A very pretty spot.

This museum tells 2 stories. The origin of RFDS and the bombing of Darwin in 1942. The stories are told by short movie in a bespoke cinema and there is an interactive platform where you can experience the air raid. There is also a virtual reality headset section which wS interesting too. The staff were friendly and helpful. Great place to spend an hour or two.

What a fantastic facility! The displays are very interactive and are fantastic engagement tools to educate on both the Royal Flying Doctors service, as well as on the bombing of Darwin. Highly recommend!

Great experience covering not only the history of the RFDS, but also the history of the bombing of Darwin in World War II. The staff were great - really friendly, happy to help and actively trying to show people around the facility. Full of knowledge, definitely a great testament to the attitude and goals of the RFDS! The facility was amazing, the now decommissioned PC-12 set up at the back for people to walk through and get an understanding of the space and setup. The info movies in the mini cinema are a must for everyone - so many facts and great stories! The VR experience is also a must do! Experiencing a flight from the front of a PC12 with an obviously very knowledgeable and caring pilot doing the narration. If you’re in Darwin, take an hour of your day at least to visit this incredible attraction!

I enjoyed the RFDS display especially the interactive headsets and the plane. There is also a display on the bombing of Darwin.

They have a decommissioned plane you can sit in and a lot of great merchandise; it gives you a great insight into how important and lifesaving this service is! We must have missed the virtual reality part, but I remember the recording going on in the background. Don't forget they have a WW2 Darwin bombing simulation, too, and a holographic presentation of the captain of the Willy B. It's definitely well worth visiting. And don't forget it's cheaper to buy your tickets off the Big Red Bus!

What a great place to find out about the history of the Royal Flying Doctor service and the bombing of Darwin Harbour. Lots of interactive displays and the virtual reality was great. I loved being able to climb aboard the RFDS plane and I chose the patient virtual reality clip. I kept turning around to see the pilot which was very cool!

As an American I didn't know that Darwin and other places, to include Sydney, were bombed by the Japanese right after Pearl Harbor. The films and virtue reality experiences were well done and informative. I would revisit.

Excellent and informative site. Perhaps let people know there is a free shuttle around the waterfront it took me over an hour to walk.

We had the opportunity to visit the RFDS museum today. It was a spare of the moment idea and I’m extremely glad we made it! The staff were amazing! - especially Geoff! There was a mini movie cinema, multiple VR experiences, we had the chance to go into a retired RFDS plane… and even the gift shop was great with even RM Williams merchandise! Defiantly worth the time and money! Highly recommend!

Very informative and interactive. Numerous displays which helped us getting a much better appreciation of the Darwin bombings, and the great work carried out by RFDS. We had thought the entry fee was a bit steep, however soon got over this after realising how reliant the service is on donations and sponsorships.

The VR experience is a great way for adults and kids to experience what the war was like. They have two video sessions in a theatre as well which talks about the history of the RFDS which was very interesting. The museum has a replica of one of the RFDS planes for everyone to see. Although its a small museum its a great one to visit. You need maximum 1.5 hours but latest time you can enter is 2.30pm for a session.

A great place of history, the hologram videos were great and the VR experience gave you that further history which you would not have known about.

With some experience now visiting RFDS experiences this location is a superb example very clean and spacious with a mini cinema and areas to be immersed into the history and importance of the Royal Flying Doctors Service and the lives of people who's determination and drive not to mention generosity from donations give us this absolutely vital emergency service. Combined with the Bombing of Darwin Experience here you will want approx 90mins maybe even 2hours there. Bus services or even taxi are easy but it is quite a short walk down from CBD of Darwin across the sky walk and out to the wharf.

Where does one start, from the impressive frontage of the facility to the interactive displays within,This facility would appeal to all ages, the history within the (VR) Virtual Reality experience is truly mind blowing!! You are virtually there on the disastrous day, and witness exerts from the moments, and saw ships blowing up, planes being shot down etc. The RFDS side of things is also very interesting, telling the dream of John Flynn and the overall outcome of the modern day RFDS, as we see it today. I suggest all family members witness this wonderful facility, and the friendly and helpful staff were only too happy to answer almost any question you threw at them.

Wow, the kids thought this place was going to be boring. They loved it! We spent just under 2 hours exploring and learning about the RFDS and the attack on Darwin in 1942. Definitely watch the 20 min movie on the attack and do the VR headsets, you will love it.

  • 5/5 liam h. 2 years ago on Google
The 3D displays are wonderful. I thought I had some insight into the RFDS, but this exhibition just made me admire the founders more. The facility also has an exhibition on the first afraid on Darwin, which was concentrated on the wharf. It's an inexpensive and very informative outing.

History of RFDS and the WWII attack on Darwin. I liked the VR goggles which puts you right in the action. 2x 15min video accounts as well as a 2min surreal bombing run where you stand around an active display.

I had no idea this existed until I was driving around with my friend from interstate. So much attention to detail had gone into the planning of this small museum, and although it's small, don't be fooled! It is packed with so much information and every 20 minutes the air raid siren goes off, to which you go to the middle of the building.... and I am going to leave it there because I won't ruin your experience. It has lots of information on the Royal Flying Doctors as well as the Darwin bombings. There was so much I didn't know about the bombings and I can't wait to come back and watch the viewings next time.
