I rate it the highest as there aren't many places that made me feel so soothing and soulful. Not far from Dublin city centre. The place has large car parking for a mere cost of 5 Euros, a hotel and rest rooms. There are 2 lakes, lower and upper. The upper lake is 1.4 KM away from the car park and has a walk way that leads to the upper lake and from there you can go to the top of the hill to see the waterfall. There is an information center right next to the upper lake and is manned. Highly recommended for all those who enjoy nature.

Although this lake is much smaller in size than its larger counterpart where its origins are from, the Glendalough lower lake is equally as if not more beautiful. Because of its small size, you’ll find it easy to navigate around the lake, and as it is at a lower descent than the upper lake, you won’t have to worry about huge gusts of wind. Take some time to find a bench in the edges of the lake, take some photos, and relax before going onto the upper lake or down to the monastic site.

Just outside of Dublin waits a beautiful landscape, ideal for walking and taking in great views. There are two options to walk around the lakes one for the younger and fitter ones and one with a lovely boarded walkway. We had our 86 year old mum with us, who is not too good on foot , but even she managed to walk one hour with us. The monastery and graveyard are very interesting. Unfortunately ,due Covid, the visitor centre was closed.

I pulled two drowning teens from this lake on the evening of 18.07.21. Myself and my partner seem to be the only ones who recognised the situation and we had only stopped for photos. The pebbled area where people sometimes swim (on roundtower side of lake) has a steep drop off about 3m from shore. The custodians of the site really need to flag this deep water with signage, and they need provide a rescue lifebuoy - regardless of whether this is a designated swimming area or not. This was a fingertip rescue and close to being another water tragedy during the heatwave.

This is a great starting point for a tour around the lakes. Especially due to the nearby sights like the tower and cemetery. There is also a way just across the the connection of the lakes which offers you amazing views of the area. And of course if you go there take your time for the whole trip around both lakes. Totally worth the effort.

Absolutely gorgeous! 100% with the visit! Very nice and relaxing. Food is disappointing expensive though!
