Great find! This is about as rustic and authentic as you can get, a lovely little no frills family run restaurant. We had beetroot salad. Souvlaki chicken-bacon and grilled pork chop. The beetroot salad was bursting with freshness, and the pork chop was the most tender I have ever tried, and there's no secret, no marinade, it's simply local high quality meat. We ordered the 2016 EAS Nemeas Reserve wine. €13! The most expensive red wine they have is €15! We had a laugh with the staff too, we will probably return there tonight

This one's for the foodies out there: you won't get more soul anywhere else in this town. This is the place you need to visit and cherish if you are looking for the real stuff. It's a small family business serving food like the locals enjoy. We went there on lunchtime and were treated in a kind and competent way. The kitchen is small but magic. The cheese croquettes are something to write home about. The fried zucchini is crispy and dry, not drenched. Treat yourself with a corfu beer or half a liter wine, you can't go wrong with any of that. They work in a solid and seasoned fashion. Try to sit close so you can watch them and understand what you'll get. It's simple, it's fairly fast, it's priced for everyone, it's delicious and (for some) very important: it'll offer you a glimpse of the local soul food and lifestyle. Five hearts for this place!

Amazing hidden gem!! The beet salad was so fresh, juicy and well flavoured! A must try is the fried cheese with honey and sesame, it blew our minds. Tzatziki and red pepper cheese salad (a dip) with bread were so delicious too! One of the best tzatzikis I’ve had in Greece. The aubergine with cheese was amazing, with a smokey, well balanced flavour. For the mains, I had the stuffed chicken fillet which was juicy and filling. Meatballs were quite nice but the fries were not the best. The prices are very reasonable. We had 2 days in Thessaloniki and went there twice because it was so good

Giannoula is a lovely vintage style restaurant and family business with an Ami jukebox as focal point. All the food is homemade and tastes delicious. Try the hot pepper, it’s spicy but it’s so typical for the old style restaurants in Thessaloniki. Service is very efficient and friendly. This restaurant is one of the pleasant discoveries I had in Thessaloniki. Almost no one, young or old was occupied with a smartphone when I was there. Everyone was talking and laughing. It was a wonderful experience and I can’t wait to visit the restaurant next time I’m in town.

Delicious rustic and home style Greek food. Nothing complex but very satisfying, and especially good value. They had English menus for tourists.

Good family owned business. You choose from the menu and write down your choices on the piece of paper. After you're done you will receive your piece of paper with prices written down next to your choices. Some of the meals were very salty (fish and beef), however it was quite nice all in all.

As Greek as it gets - just perfect! My husband and I were visiting Thessaloniki for few days and we came here twice, because food was just excellent. Establishment it self looks pretty much like nothing at all - simple tables and chairs, hasn't been renovated for a long time and the room is small and can easily get crowded on a weekend. Owner speaks simple English and is friendly and humorous, however, it seems, that the most important thing for him is just to cook food. Like, that's his life's purpose and that's why he was placed on this planet. Everything else is secondary. Menu is quite small and simple, printed on an A4 page. But everything we tried was heavenly delicious and price was surprisingly low. Both times we ate dinner, we were stuffed afterwards and paid a total of 35€ each time - food and drinks for two people + tip included.

I can't stress enough how important it is to still have small taverns like this, where you can still have traditional food with great prices, and spend time with your friends without worrying about overspending or sacrificing the quality of the food. The staff is very welcoming and kind. Definitely recommend!

This is a place where you will really eat Greek home-made food alike, when you reach to the location, don't be surprised, just get in!!! no hesitation! I am sure you will not regret their food, their service, and you will feel a family a member!!! I tried twice to make sure I wasn't lucky the first time, but they nailed it again !!

Excellent family run local taverna, well worth the short walk out of the city. Great value, very nice meat dishes and as others have mentioned, don’t miss out on the fried courgette!

Wonderful friendly service, great tables on the street watching the world go by, superb cheap wine (EUR3.50 for a half-litre!) and simple exquisite fresh sublime yet inexpensive food. The smoked aubergine was outstanding, the courgette burgers tasty and inventive, the tomato/cucumber/onion salad bursting with freshness.

One of the most incredible restaurants I have been to in my life! Thessaloniki has 1000s of places to eat and this is one of only 2 I went back to. The service, food, and atmosphere make this a real experience for me. This is a family run restaurant, older than most of the people who eat there. One thing I love is the fact there is no freezer at this restaurant. Just one small fridge full of fresh ingredients from the day, and it really shows. The dishes are perfectly prepared. My recommendation — Beef Steak, Red Wine, and a salad (the one with the spinach and sesame is by far the best salad I had in my life). The beef is perfect! I truly don't believe you can get better beef in Europe. Thank you to you and your family for 2 lovely meals. I will be returning to Thessaloniki just to dine at your restaurant again!

Food - 5 Service - 5 Atmosphere -3 Went on a recommendation from a local as well as based on the ample 5 star reviews. Totally legit family run place with very tasty food at extremely fair prices. If I lived here, I would eat at Giannoula frequently! The service was incredibly friendly and cordial. Food was prepared freshly and quickly. They invited us into the kitchen to see their daily special that was in the oven and finishing up at around 13:00. We had to have it as it was just coming out of the oven! We had grilled pork belly (pantsetes) and their baked eggplant special along with a freshly made Greek salad. The dining area is casual and more diner-like, but nothing wrong with that. It was clean and comfortable enough with a large jukebox in the back. You don’t come here for a fine dining experience. Easy to see why this place is a local treasure in Thessaloniki! Next time I will get the tomahawk pork chop. Go visit them soon!
