This is a must in Thessaloniki. It's a very authentic market where locals buy produce, fish, seafood, and meat. The sights and smells are something you don't see everywhere in Europe, so it's quite an experience. The smell is overwhelming, with hints of fresh and raw seafood, meat, and other interesting products. I bought olives and I was not disappointed. There are some food joints where you can sit and have a more local experience.

As a tourist, I can say that this was a very authentic experience (not used to open markets like this in my country). Everything looked very nice and fresh though. A lot of meat and fish that smelled nice and looked tasty. Also a lot of other stuff and mostly olive oil and olives (quality that you can find only in places where they grow olives). Recommend visiting, you might find something you like.

Plenty of options and a wide variety of goods and services. Most people are very friendly and able to speak English if you don’t speak Greek.

I really liked it: busy, colourful, not European :) I recommend it to anyone who wants a good Greek market atmosphere.

This market was much smaller than I was expecting. The stalls had closed by the time we reach there,3:00 and the great thing was that there was some great restaurant around, which gave this a great feel and ambiance of a country inn. BUT! You want to buy Greek preserves, like olives and the likes, then sell they were still on and we bought a basket of lovely olives

Fantastic place - not as vibrate or as large as Athens market but lots to see, lots of nooks & crannies to explore & restaurants/cafes dotted around. It’s a sprawling market, so make sure you explore all of it

My first time here, people were vere helpful, even took me to a nearby store to by cretan olives and oil. The butcher shops were impressive Many closed and empty shops, otherwise, and probably a reconstruction going on, it was dusty all over the place

I think that If you are exploring the city, you are obliged to visit the market. The products, delicious, spices, a lot kind of meats and fishes, local cosmetics with oil, noice people and unforgettable emotions all is here. Recommend to buy dried tomatoes and Halva. Located very near at Aristotle’s square. Also there are good taverns.

A lot of non expensive clothes shops. I thought it's more a bazaar than a market, until we discovered an olive stand and a local taverna, right in the middle of the market. The food was great, and the atmosphere was relaxed.

Kapani market in Thessaloniki is a green market where you can enjoy in shopping local goods, vegetables and meat from Greece. Although I expected bigger market, with lot more green stuff, fruits and vegetables (have seen only 2 stands) this can be explored in a half hour. It's not full of people, we visited twice, Friday and more busy Saturday. One kilogram if olives starts from 3€/kg, up to 7-8€/kg, big can of 5 liter of extra virgine olive oil from Creta you can purchase for 22€. Lot of good and cheap meat, sausages, fishes, big squids, cheese, nuts, almonds, various spices, teas, but also stuff like souvenirs, clothes, stuff from China, It's all here. Sellers are not loud like in Italy, but you will enjoy local atmosphere. There is a coffee place where you can have cheap coffee, too.

Local markets are always so interesting to visit. Karani Market is an open air bazar. It offers a wide variety of local products, from meats, fishes, spices, and many others. The place is really interesting in the heart of Thessaloniky. Once you travel in this city, it is mandatory visiting this place! I give it my five stars

An Interesting, colorful traditional market. There was ongoing construction so the place was quite dusty. We arrived 5 minutes to closing, which was at 4 pm according to the hrs on google yet most of the stores were still open with no signs of closing. Meat, seafood, clothing etc were on display. We enjoyed immersing ourselves in the this local mkt

This old traditional market is the everyday turning point of Thessaloniki. Housed in open air pedestrian streets and covered spaces it provides food and outfits of all kinds For city visitors can be the place reflecting local life and habits related especially with gastronomy

Very comfortable beds. You don’t pay for the bed only for drinks and food. Bit more expensive but no rip deal. The music is far to loud to relax.. We were there on a Sunday. Looks like it is a adults only place. One kid only. Exceptional for Sithonia.

Kapani Market is a bustling and historic market located in the heart of Thessaloniki, Greece. The market has been a staple of the city for centuries and is one of the most popular destinations for locals and tourists alike. The market's history dates back to the Ottoman Empire, when Thessaloniki was an important commercial hub. The market was established in the late 19th century and was named after the Ottoman word "Kapani," which means "covered market." The market was built to provide shelter for the city's merchants and their goods from the harsh weather conditions, and it quickly became a hub for trade and commerce. Today, Kapani Market is home to a wide variety of shops and stalls selling everything from fresh produce to clothing and jewelry. The market is divided into several sections, each specializing in a particular type of product. Visitors can explore the meat and fish sections, which are filled with stalls selling a wide variety of fresh meats, seafood, and cheeses. They can also browse the fruit and vegetable stands, which offer a colorful array of locally-grown produce. One of the highlights of Kapani Market is the lively atmosphere. The market is always busy, and the vendors are known for their friendly and welcoming nature. Visitors can expect to haggle over prices and sample some of the local delicacies, such as olives, feta cheese, and freshly-baked bread. Overall, Kapani Market is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Thessaloniki. Its rich history and vibrant atmosphere make it a unique and unforgettable experience.

Authentic open market with a large variety of shops and even small traditional restaurants. There you'll find fresh fruit and vegetables, butcher and fish shops, clothing and accessories.

Get the full time-warp experience here. Even though it's primarily a giant butcher shop, it's not just fish and meat. If your stomach can't handle strong smells, don't go there after the day heats up.

Amazing place for lunch and dinner. Very tasty with a local specialties served on modern way. Also you can combine it with a walk around the food market near by. Only bad thing that for sure you need a reservation before or to have patience to wait. Highly recommend.

The feel of a real market, with the sights and smells you'd expect. Look for the cats and kittens tolerated (and sometimes fed) by the shopkeepers. The natural way to ensure there are no rats anywhere in the market.

Very good quality for seriusly low prices. You can find almost anything at a discount, from detergents to spices and good wines. You just have to ask for directions, surely someone will point you to the right shop.

In every town one of the most interesting places to visit is the market. It does not matter whether they are big or small, but they are always interesting to us. It is always the soul of the place. The Kapani (Vlali) Market is extremely interesting. It is Thessaloniki's oldest public market. We like to observe the people who visit the marketplace, the sellers who sell their products with great passion. The market is full of small shops selling textiles, shoes, home supplies, and flowers on one side. And on the other side richly supplied tables with fish, meat, various Greek cheeses, olive oil, olives, sweets, cakes and small tavernas... The richness of smells and flavors. It is located between the Eleftheriou Venizelou streets, Egnatia, Aristotelous and Ermou. In the center of the city. It's not hard to find it. History of this market is very interesting. Its name comes from the Turkish name "Kapan-i Galle", which means "grains market". When the Jewish moved to Thessaloniki, the Greek and Turkish influence gradually diminished. Thus smaller traders came to the fore and gradually gained strength. One of them was Egyptian merchants who established an Egyptian market within the Kapani Market. The market even in our days is having a mixed atmosphere of all the nationalities that lived in Thessaloniki through its history. For the travelers it is a highly recommended destination as it is a very interesting experience to walk inside it and buy traditional food products and various other products, handicrafts ..... And all at a cheap price.

Great food shops, tavers, and traditional products. Old, vintage Thessaloniki. Great bags, home equipment, and warm people make up a hidden gem next to Aristotelous Square.

Nice market with good selection of fresh produce, meats, fish and olives. Prices are higher compared to other markets but the location is great. Lots of restaurants and coffee shops close by so it’s worth a visit

The rather tourist orientated market place. A lot of local stuff. Fish and meat sections probably for those of strong stomachs. Great chease and olives. Some tourist souvenirs and a few places to drink a glass of beer or Retsina (local alcoholic drink based on wine).

Kapani is a tipical balkanic market, similar to the Turkish and Arabic bazaars, filled with a lot of small shops with almost anything you can imagine: meat, fish, seafood, clothes, bags, shoes, souvenirs, coffee shops, tavernas, and so on. The prices for non-food items are not so cheap as you'll espect, you'll find a lot of Made in China products, most of them fakes. But is nice to visit it, especially if you came from a Western country, is an excellent experience! :)

Great open market. Fresh meat, poultry, fish... We bought olives, all sorts of 100gr each. Also, hard white cheese - the typical Greek cheese. A must visit/shop, specially for the hard white cheese.

I love going to traditional markets, this visit rated good ,as while searching for the best olive oil ,merchants offered tastings and suggestions, fun and i found an oil that i like. Suprised at limited number of fruit and vegtable stands,or other things for sale.this may soon be gone as a modern building, for a market, located a block away,is nearing completion soon.
