Islahane was founded in 1874 as the first orphanage-technical school of Thessaloniki, independent of religion. He provided orphans for 5 years with the learning of Arts such as carpentry, shoemaking, tailoring and printing. Today one of the three original buildings survives and functions as a museum. Areti's narration and guided tour of the museum takes you back to another era. In the museum there are many objects, tools and machines that were used for the arts of metal and fire. From time to time the museum hosts various exhibitions.

Beautiful small green area, renovated and clean on a nice location. Very convenient for a short break with beautiful view and environment with the road that leads to the old castle and upper city neighborhood.

(Translated by Google) Excellent venue, historic building, unique collection of female modeling works of extra vagrant fashion and artistic curation of useless tools into fantastic objects. The Director was very hospitable and the concert of the Ano Polis Conservatory was very good!!!

This place is just amazing.Certainly worth visiting of you are a tourist in Thessaloniki. It was been recently renovated , just like the sunny park outside. It is a museum dedicated to the history of the building and the area in general. There is also an exhibition about a writer (Antonis Sourounis) of the neighborhood. On top of that it has a very good video projection on this topic. Entrance is free .The only downside is it's working hours. Only Monday to Friday and 9:00- 14:00. if this review helped you please consider liking.

As a Turkish citizen, I would like to thank you for the amazing setup and friendly hospitality. We have visited the centre with my family who is their parents who migrated from Thessaloniki. The staff were extremely friendly and nice. Full of knowledge about the place and also Ottoman history. The way they have presented the orphanage and Ottoman history related to that was amazing and impressive. I have to say, the way how they presented the place and story is way better than the Turkish government's presenting Ottoman / Turkish culture in the city. Keep up the good work! Çok teşekkür ederim!

(Translated by Google) Both as a place of memory and as a host of events, exhibitions, workshops, Islahane is a jewel for the city of Thessaloniki! Every time I visit it, I discover something different, both in its usability and in the permanent exhibition. It's as if the space changes and adapts to the needs of each time! A beloved space, which is managed with great passion by the managers!

(Translated by Google) January 2020 I visited the site as an escort of high school students. The design of the venue, the exhibits and the presentation of the supervisory exhibition material has become exemplary. The telephone communication was prompt, clear, courteous and helpful. The highly enjoyable tour, by the highly qualified Ms. Kondylidou, was thoroughly detailed both technically and historically and pedagogically. It is worth visiting and enjoying an enjoyable historical and folklore experience.

(Translated by Google) An interesting piece of the city's history. The museum is beautifully designed and provides you with interesting information and testimonies about the way of life of the inhabitants of the time and the working conditions in the area.

We visited the venue to see the exhibition "New Beach New Walkway 8" with the theme Black Or White. Very special place and relatively easily accessible. It is worth the visit especially if you are interested in the history of Thessaloniki from a very special perspective.

(Translated by Google) A very beautiful and completely renovated building that few know its history. It was one of the many orphanages - technical schools, established by the sultan throughout the Ottoman Empire for the protection and education of orphan boys. Later it operated as a factory. On the very positive side is the fact that it has inscriptions in braille.

(Translated by Google) The exhibit area is very well laid out. Really impressive work that can move you, especially if you have Pontic roots. The only thing that overshadowed the positive feeling of the visit (29/12/2022) was the indifferent to rude employee on the premises, who answered our questions reluctantly and with a touch of irony.

A great find, with helpful guides, a video on the previous building there where orphans were taught a trade, and a great collection of industrial artefacts from when the present building was a factory. The shelves of numerous moulds for making cast iron pipes etc are particularly impressive and a great photo opportunity. The centre needs to be on TripAdvisor. There is no signage on the main road. You need to follow Google maps and walk up a car ramp next to what is presently a building site. Thrre was no charge to visit.
