Went to Little Magadi which is a ways off Magadi. Totally worth the drive and you have the view of the whole lake to yourself. Had a nice breakfast by the lake and definitely visiting again.

Magadi is breathtaking.... and so is the journey. I departed Nairobi at around 10am and had a leisurely ride on a Sunday. Surprisingly, very few people visit Magadi. I could count the number of cars that I passed. It is a great place to visit on a weekend and return the same day. The road is tarmacked all the way, apart from a section of almost 2Km about 10km before the Magadi sign board. It is murram with loose gravel... not good for a biker, but manageable. There are rolling hills all the way.... breathtaking. I stopped several times just to take in the view. Kenya is just so beautiful. As you approach Magadi you can see the salt lake on your right hand side. Before the barrier, as TATA industries manages it, the road passes between the water part of the lake, and on this Sunday, there was a clear sky, and i got near perfect mirror images in my photos. It's hard to believe the beauty of this country sometimes... you just have to experience it to believe it. I passed the barrier and then rode through to the town. It's a very small town with very few shops. Locals are ever friendly. I didn't get to the hot springs though, that is for my next Magadi trip... that's how amazing the journey was. I rode back leisurely too, and arrived Nairobi by 5pm. I recommend Magadi. It's not busy, so is perfect for a nice drive/ride ... even if you enjoy just the scenery, the journey will have been worth it. See you soon Magadi....

We got a guide from Magadi sports club, navigation to the hot spring can be tricky with moving ground. Best time for the spa is in the evening when its not too hot. Dipping in a hot spring spa about 45 degrees celsius of saline water was such a therapeutic experience!

Magadi is the name we would call the naturally-occurring salt that we would feed to dairy cows. That was back in the day in Kitale. Anyway, as the name suggests, this place is the ground zero for natural salts called Trona that gets processed into soda ash. There's even a company run by Tata that processes this trona. Apart from trona processing, Lake Magadi makes a good destination for an out-of-town experience. From the hot springs that bubble out of the surface to the many flamingos that dot the landscape, it is a good place to take a break from the city life. The place is hot though and the humidity is also high, I bet because of the lake. From a distance, the salt sediment makes the lake look pink in color and that's quite a spectacle. This place is also ideal for photography and birding. I would highly recommend this place for a visit.

Lake Naivasha is home to many animals and different species of birds. It is a birders dream with around 400 species of birds such as the African Fish Eagle, Saddle billed Stork, Jacana, Greater and Lesser Flamingo’s, Laughing Dove, Dideric Cuckoo, Eurasian Nightjar, Hadada Ibis and the Gray Crowned Crane to name but a few. Zebra, Giraffe, Antelope, Water Buffalo, Warthog, Monkeys and the Hippopotamus are also found here. Canoeing around the lake is a great way to see the wildlife. The lake is almost 13kms across and is part of the Great Rift Valley. The late Joy Adamson who was the author of Born Free lived in Elsamere Lodge located on the banks of the lake. The Fishermen here at Lake Naivasha use handmade boats and fishing nets and mainly fish for Carp. There are many different tree species and flowering plants surrounding the lake in this rich eco system. Papyrus are important to the lake as it filters sediment and adds nutrients so play a key role in the eco system of the lake, This area is famous for growing roses in big greenhouses for the overseas market. It’s a great place to go for nice walks, see plenty of nature and to see beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Early humans came from this area. Human teeth have been found on an archeological site in the Naivasha area dating back 250,000 years. Only 35 kilometres away is Hells Gate National Park there are obsidian mines where early humans mined for the volcanic glass to make early tools. It’s a beautiful and interesting area.

If there's a place I'd love to be then it's lake Magadi. I really loved this place I'd call it the bathtub of the Sahara. It's the best tempered place to be there. The temperature well at times rises above the bar to extremes but that's just a wonder to tell the world in itself. The place is a destination for tourists. I had a chance to visit the little magadi lake, the hot springs, Tata chemicals factory and the beautiful lush Maasai plains and ridges. I was amazed by the mighty Ol Donyo Nyoike and the ever graceful and mighty Nguruman fault lying down like a giant Trojan horse only that this resembles and reminisces the king of the wild the lion. I also saw the colossal abandoned plane wreck along the way & I thought of christening it my museum. There's lots of wildlife here too. Otherwise this is the perfect place away from the busy world of cities

Perfect place with beautiful landscape. It's worth seeing. Great amount of different animals: lions, zebras, buffalos, rhinoceros, jackals, wildebeests, ostriches, hippocampuses, gazelles and many different kind of birds. Rhinoceros are very hard to being seen close, but it is possible to look at them through the binoculars.

Apparently Magadi is grown like literally grown, maybe not like in sand it takes a few months to mature. Fun fact 2: only one part of the lakes has been explored since 1911!! So much potential.

The major attractions here are the hot springs, flamingoes and nice scenic views. Magadi town is a small, privately run town but you'll get the most basic amenities like shops, supermarket, petrol station (Total) and repair shops in case you break down. The terrain is quite rough with lots of dust and rocks, so an off-road car is highly recommended. Make sure your spare tyre is in good condition, there is a high chance of getting a puncture due to the sharp rocks. The weather here is generally hot, temperatures can get as high as 40 degrees. Stock lots of water. The locals are friendly and willing to show you around. If you can, you have the option to pay a guide for the entirety of your trip for best experience. There are no standard rates, you have to negotiate.

Please carry extra bottle of water as much as you can for yourself & to donate/gift to the Masai boys (pastoralists) on the way while returning as the Area is very arid & there is severe scarcity of water. Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake in Kenya, outside the town of Naivasha in Nakuru County, which lies north west of Nairobi. It is part of the Great Rift Valley. The name derives from the local Maasai name Nai'posha, meaning "rough water" because of the sudden storms which can arise.

Just writing to express our great appreciation of the fabulous team at Bantu Pori Journeys for their outstanding safari support during these crazy Covid challenging times. It has always been a dream of ours to visit Africa and do a once-in-a-lifetime safari so about a year ago our group of 4 couples embarked on a mission to find the absolute best, most reputable safari company to travel with. After doing tons of research, we choose Bantu Pori Journeys to plan our trip to Africa in February of 2020. We plotted & planned every safari detail with Bantu Pori Journeys for our Migration safari. With the pandemic raging our first fantastic safari was postponed to February 2021. We couldn't have asked for any better resolution to our situation and we'd also like to send a huge shout-out to our travel planner Baraka, who has endured our seemingly endless emails back and forth during the planning of our trip and through the duration of the Covid situation. Throughout they have been so supportive, positive, completely compassionate, professional, and willing to work with us, giving us incredible confidence. Our 7 day and 6 nights migration safari was well organized, our driver guide Kante was excellent. The parks were unforgettable. Day one: Tarangire National Park Day two to Four: Serengeti National Park (Ndutu and central area) with a balloon ride Day five: Serengeti National park to Ngorongoro lodge Day six: Ngorongoro crater Day seven: Lake Manyara National Park with bridge walk All in all a really personal experience that you wouldn’t receive with a bigger company. For those looking for a good agency to make their safari dream come true, I really recommend this one !! See you next time for sure !! :-)

A surprised gate at what you see as a highway on map. Asphalt road end and it's all gravel ones. Nature starts right away. The amazing road takes you from rainforest to NguruNguru. Then landscape change to more hills and open savana all the way down to Serengeti. And wild life is all the way. We could see Zebra and Wildbeast from the car and until the end of view. And the candy is Serengeti. All the stories came true. Don't miss the small ones like birds, small mammal etc. Jiraffes, elephants, Zebra, Wildbeast, lions, lapperd, Chita, gazzle. Nature in motion. Recommended!

Clean Clean town. Peaceful environment. Unique connection to nature. Very hot but very worth it. Wonderful people and beautiful views of the sunrise and sunset, flamingos. Natural hot springs.

  • 4/5 Sheila W. 1 year ago on Google
There are lots of flamingos and pelicans that are a beautiful site to see. However, they tend to shy away from people and move further into the other end of the lake.
