FLAMINGOS in Lake Bogoria in large numbers earlier than usual. The pink-ish birds have always been known to migrate back to the lake from Tanzania in April. #ThisIsBaringo

Worst 18km of road ever. Lot's of flamingos. It's okay seeing the hot springs, but the drive there isn't worth it, at all

Beautiful place. For one to best enjoy Lake Bogoria I strongly recommend that one reads up on the geological formations and processes that led to the creation of this lake before and during the tour. You will enjoy the flamingoes, the hot springs, the flora and fauna. Do not attempt the drive in a small car. You will simply spoil your trip. Your car and tyres, if you make it, will get some damage, and you will end up giving the place an unwarranted bad review

A good National Reserve with very many birds and if youโ€™re lucky youโ€™ll get to see very many flamingoes up close. Carry some eggs to boil them over ?

With the rising water, level the geysers are all but invisible. The shallow water for flamingoes seems much reduced compared to past decades.

Very famous for its hot water springs, I was quite disappointed that its left with only a few small springs and a very dusty road due to the swelling of the Lake. But I guess that's mother nature at work.

The area that we could see flamingo is more than 1 hour drive away from the hotel or main town. It was only 5 minutes drive before. Be prepared and planned for long drive.

Did a 5 hour road trip to Lake Baringo through the Nakuru-sigori Road. There are no entry fees to the lake. charges for the boat vary depending on the sections of the lake one is visiting. Activities: fish eagle hunting, visit the devils island, etc

The odd thing about this lake, despite being a fresh water body, it can not be used for consumption due to high levels of florine. By the time I was visiting this place, the lake had burst its banks and claimed a number of hotel structures and trees. You can do a boat ride on this lake at an affordable rate. The ride typically takes 2 hours and you will be able to skirt the islands of Kokwe (Kokwa in the local Njemps lingua) and Palmorok which is privately owned. You will also be able to see a local fisherman in home made raft. You will see plenty of birds including a fish eagle in action. There are also crocodiles and hippos. A good place to visit and relax.

Lake Baringo is a fresh water lake in Rift Valley and has many small islands. Enjoy a boat ride to the islands offered by the locals at a fee depending on the distance covered. The boat ride also offers a closer view of hippos and crocodiles inside the lake. Enjoy stories and insights about the islands offered by the local tour guides. Photographers can get lovely shots of birds and the horizon especially during sunsets. Touring the lake is ideal for groups.

The hot springs and wildlife are fantastic (you can't go far, just to the hot springs to see the lake and the flamingos) but be aware that the rates are as follows: Resident 1000 KES, Non-resident 5000 KES. It's a long bumpy road from the gate to the lake/springs.

Visited the park in the beginning of November; the huuuge number of flamingos deserve five stars! This aside, please read till the end!!! We came from the South (from Ol Pejeta), where the road was extremely horrible, entering through the Southern gate. We were charged 110$ for 24 hours, staying 1 night. (Un)luckily we only had about 40$ cash with us. We could not pay by card, which is very strange, therefore it's a KWS... He called the main gate to tell we would pay the rest at the main gate in the North; up until today we have no idea who he'd called... We went on and the road was as horrible as the one we came from. It's clear the money does not go to the infrastructure. First we passed the "geysers and hot springs", but the past years the water level has risen a lot so we couldn't see them at all. We stayed one night at the Kudu Camp Site (outside the park, in the West) which was basic but OK. The next day we went on, until we drove out using the Northern side of the park. Best thing of all: we never passed a main gate! Our advice, use the Northern entrance gate.

The lake is not too impressive, apart from being reasonably large. We stayed in Soi Safari Lodge simply because it's cheaper then Bogoria Spa and Lodge and only a 45 minute drive. Place is reasonably clean, friendly staff, cold beer and reasonable food (no menu). Saw two crocs and two hippo's, and of course the two resident ostriches. Lake Baringo is a bird watchers paradise. I stayed there for 2 nights last year as part of a photographic safari and it was spectacular. There were also a few Hippos and Crocs but it's the shear number of birds and species that is the greatest attraction. There are plenty of locals that can take you around the lake in their boats for bird watching or photography. There are no 5 star resorts here but there is a number of suitable accommodation places in typical Kenyan style

A vast surface of fresh water (130 km2), with Elmol and Ol Arabel rivers as inlet but not outlet, offers a picturesque sight to visitors and a wonderful adventure. The lake provides a home for several animals; mammoth, hippos, giant Nile crocodiles and zebras. Birds include, fish eagles, eagle owls, barbets and owls. Hot springs gushes out in Lake Baringo ,a gripping sight to see.

Very very bad roads. They will tell you that your car can make it to the hot springs but you will surely need a land cruiser to get there. If you try a salon or small four wheel drive you will damage the car. Our experience was very bad. Hopefully the roads can be renovated soon.!

  • 1/5 07vj 1 year ago on Google
Ridiculous prices charged. 50$ per person for foreigners. In addition, the ranger there lied to me and said it was OK for our car to go in (saying the road will improve after you go a bit). This road is rocky and only fit for land cruisers. Bad experience
