I recommend this tour combining learning about nature and the native people of the Coast AND discovering an ancient forest on coral rock with all senses on. The knowledge of the Digo people about plant species, tree burials and energy exchange is just being rediscovered. Call the phone number indicated on Google maps and reserve a tour slot. The fee for Kenyans is 500 KES, for residents 800 and for foreigners 1000. All the money goes into conservation efforts and supporting the Digo community. The entrance fee includes the tour guide. The last tour of the day is at 04pm because the tour guide closes the info house at 06pm and the forest is darker at dawn. There is a long tour (2h) to the freshwater spring and a shorter tour around the forest (1 - 1.5h), depending on how fit you are. Drive South on Diani Beach Road, past the paved road on the bumpy one, turn right after the sign for the forest comes and enter the parking spot. First, you will be introduced to the Digo culture and customs in the informational house because you cannot do certain things in the sacred forest and want to show respect while enjoying the tour. The tour is interactive and I encourage you to ask the guide lots of questions. I was amazed by the answers which showed vast ancient knowledge.

We had a wonderful time here! It’s a beautiful forest, and our fun, friendly and lovely guide Mohammed was so informative, showing us trees and plants used for medicines, as well as explaining how his ancestors used the forest. We learnt about the rituals and sacrifices people to this day still carry out in the forest.

We loved our visit to Kaya Kinondo and would strongly recommend it. We felt lucky to be shown around by our guide, Mohammed, who was very knowledgeable and interspersed lots of interesting information throughout our tree wandering. We were a bit apprehensive about whether the place would be open as we visited on a Sunday afternoon and couldn't get through on the number listed on Google on the day. Luckily, we confirmed when we arrived that visitor are welcomed 7 days a week. Thanks so much for a wonderful experience Mohammed!

It's a very good way to learn Kenya history. Very interesting. Guidance showed how those tree's functions in past. It's brilliant. You learn nature things here. It's worth to visit. But u need figure out your transport first. We went here by motorbike which only for two. When we finished, there is only one tuk tuk waiting which he asked for 1000/=. It's rip off. So we decided to walk along beach. It's a very good side walk around Diani beach too.

It's approximately 30 minutes drive from Diani (Ukunda town) and 10 minutes of that involves driving through a rough road. Unfortunately, the place is currently closed due to the pandemic.

(Translated by Google) A surprising place: walking in the primary forest that grows on ancient corals brings a lot of peace. The precise explanations of Mohamed and the various activities (swinging on a liana, feeling the medicinal herbs, or hugging a sacred tree) have bewitched, soothed and opened the mind. We highly recommend.

An excellent community project. Informative guides and interesting education centre followed by a tour that respects the scared site while teaching you about medicinal plants and the cultural history of the place. Highly recommended.

The Kaya forest is considered to be an intrinsic source of ritual power and the origin of cultural identity. it is also a place of prayer for members of the particular ethnic group.

Short and nice tour/walk through the forest. It was low keyed place that is off the beaten track. We enjoyed the information shared by the tour guide. We took a tut tut from Diani beach there and asked the driver to come back for us after one hour. Make sure that you are armed with sufficient insect repellents.

Really not much to see, all forest and not anything else, not even particularly beautiful compared to any other part of Diani and surroundings. The guide was very persistent talking about trees and their remedies, repeating the names in English, Swahili, Latin and a local tribe language. Too expensive (1500 shillings included a obligatory tip to the guide). Also not suitable for any one without a good physical condition.

The guide was very knowledgeable and really took his time explaining the culture, lore and traditions. The facilities aren't great, but it is worth visiting to support the community and also to learn a little of the history of the place

Beautiful forest and quite an interesting guide we had too. Could explain every question we asked about all the trees or their belief.

We had an interesting tour learning about the local tribe, their religious beliefs and the different trees. It took around an hour. It is down an unpaved road and a little isolated but it was peaceful and a different experience from the rest of diani.

A really unique and authentic experience. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly, and it was interesting seeing first-hand how people lived in the forest. It is also a great nature visit, since this is one of the few places to see remaining primary forest, and the entrance fee (although a little high at 1000 KSH/pers) supports forest conservation.

Great experience and a very nice your through the forest. Liked the atmosphere and calmness of the forest. It is a special place and not really comparable to any other landscape in Kenya. A really nice cultural short and relative cheap trip for a part of the day.

We walked down to the sacred forest whilst staying in one of the resorts up the coast. There was no need to book or plan a specific time (we went down mid morning). The project is run by the Digo community and upon entry we were greeted by one of the local guides who showed us around for an hour or so. He was so knowledgeable about the history of the area and the religious significance and biodiversity of the forest itself. It was fascinating! Would highly recommend if you're in the area - particularly as it's a really valuable project to show your support to. (Entry fee was 1000ksh - very reasonable; also allow for a bit extra for the volunteer guide).

This sacred forest is not on most people's bucket list when they go to Kenya but if you are in the area I highly recommend a visit, especially if you are into nature, spirituality, learning about medicinal plants/trees and local culture and traditions. They charge 1000 ($10) per person + tips are extra. The tour around the forest lasts about an hour. Our guide Mohammed was very nice and knowledgable and told us about the uses of the different plants and trees. Most people spend their whole time at Diani beach but learn very little about local culture. Visiting Kaya Kinondo is an opportunity to do so as well as understand the importance of medicinal plants and the eco system. Go visit the forest and enjoy nature's gifts!

It was an incredible experience. Whether you care about the history or tribes or not, I actually learnt so much about the value of nature in our lives in this hour and a half than in the previous 30+ years. The guide was very nice and welcoming and despite the road being rough, I absolutely loved the experience...

This was a great couple of hours. The guide was humourous and well informed. We especially liked the 'medicine man' gems! It wasn't expensive (1000ksh for tourists ... 500ksh for locals.) Surprisingly there were no mosquitoes even though it was a forest, this was explained by the face that in the dry season the only water near is salt water. I'd definitely recommend this place! Rick

(Translated by Google) A very interesting tour of the history of the locals and this special forest. Everything here is left to nature. You can also see different animals, especially birds and monkeys. The tour guide is excellent. Each tree is special in its own way, e.g. a natural remedy for colds or other diseases. The guide shows everything in detail. And you can also see lianas and sit down. And everything is for a good cause or community project for local education. Conclusion: it's worth it! It is best to arrange a round trip with the same Tuktuk driver, for a small surcharge he waits for the 1 hour tour.
