We booked the Platinum room at Thanga house for 16th Jan. Booking was made on the 10th. All communications were through whatsapp with couple of calls in between. Booking process was smooth. The owner, Mr. Prasanth shared all the photos and other details promptly, sent the amount via PhonePe and that's it. Straight and simple. All we wanted was a comfortable and peaceful stay by the beach. Got a call from Ms. Shwetha, who I guess is the care taker of the place, on 16th morning. She greeted and told us that there won't be dinner available at their place and we had to have something before coming or we can get something ourselves on our way and have at their place. It was a Pongal eve, so maybe some of their staff were on leave is what we thought. I did ask whether she can arrange some food from somewhere nearby for us, to which she told she can't. We reached the place only by 8pm. Got some fruits on the way to eat and called it a day. Ms. Shwetha welcomed us at the entrance and the Helper guy showed us to our room. The room was simply excellent. We just loved it as soon as we entered. The high bed, the old chairs and wardrobes(which for some reason, was locked), the mirrors and the windows were just beautiful. We downplayed the dinner issue among ourselves thinking we got an awesome stay at least. But the next day morning was disastrous. I called them at 8.50am to enquire about breakfast and she told that it's ready and we just had to go down to the dining area. Went to the dining area and there was a table with a couple of casseroles and a small bowl. It was Dosa, Upma, four vadas and chutney. They got us a tea and a coffee as requested. The dosa was cold, upma was upma and the chutney was sour. Had the vadas and washed our hands. The experience was soo bad. We spent 10500Rs a night for this thing. Told them that the food was bad. They called someone and was telling them that the food was bad and asked why they did it that way. She did not ask us what should be done to make it better, she did not offer anything else, she did not even apologize for the bad food. She just made us hear her talking to the food supplier. As we reached at night, next morning, we started to see how the place was not maintained or if there were any efforts to keep the place at least up and running. The garden was completely just left to dry. And no effort to at least keep things clean. Plastic bottles or some stuff lying around. The doors of the room were broken and jammed. And having cockroaches in the bathroom was a big turn-off as we are talking about an accommodation where we paid around 10.5k for a night. It was disappointing Broken furnitures We just thought that they might be going to close down soon. That's when they got a call from us. We were traveling for three days straight before reaching here. All during Pongal. No where else did we suffer like this without proper service or food. Pathetic experience.

I can't describe my stay, but I surely can share my enquiry experience. They claim they are pet friendly, but wanted me to book the entire property (all 4 rooms), just to bring my dog. That is, for a single occupancy plus dog. I haven't heard of anything more ridiculous! What a joke. Not sure why they claim they are pet friendly. Lol

We do not recommend this Thanga house which could however have some advantages (see photos). Many constraints imposed by the owner and little keeping of commitments. Starting with the requirement of an advance payment of 3 nights by bank transfer when we had already booked 2 nights through a booking site and we just wanted to add one night. Odd ! and tedious to have to find a solution for a transfer when you are a traveler. In addition, there is a risk of being charged for cancellation by the booking site Then dissuaded by this owner from renting a room on the ground floor because the small private swimming pool is temporarily not working (after checking the swimming pools of this pension have not been working for months!) and encouraged by him to rent a room - more expensive!- on the 2nd floor with sea view Finally the owner requires an additional telephone number. To do what? while everything is paid and we already exchange by whatsapp. What mistrust on his part! While -We- should have been wary, because… When we arrive, we are installed on the 1st floor and not on the 2nd! Bedside lamps do not work. No dinner possible, you had to order it. (Know that there is no restaurant in Tarangambadi) . Impossible to leave since we got stuck by the owner by paying everything! And to continue let us quote the petty spirit of the house which takes the trouble to specify that it is forbidden to bring your food. As if we were going here to eat our thali bought elsewhere! Finally, no real apology or explanation from the embarrassed woman manager who keeps saying "i am sorry". So a kind of guest house at very high prices where we got trapped. Too bad.

It's good that atleast Posting on a public platform has caught your due attention. - To be clear we did not demand for complimentary checkout at 3-3:30 as you claim , we requested if a longer stay could be accommodated , not even free of cost , we were ready to pay half tariff for the same - we did not demand for a half day stay at your accommodation , we requested if it was possible at a tariff, so don't put words that you don't understand the meaning of when you post on a public platform. - Neither did we come unannounced in the evening (do you mean to say we need to make an appointment before we see your property? ) we made a call in the morning enquiring about the property and told you the dates we would be requiring to stay and duly came in the evening to checkout the property, which we were first made to wait saying the manager had to ask management if we can be allowed to see the property, after all the above conversations, we decided to leave and the manager said that the three rooms at your property are all undergoing maintenance and one room is occupied. So if the property of 4 rooms is occupied as above how would you accomodate us? - You are a registered property offering hospitality at Tharangambadi , and after seeing good reviews of your hospitality we made a visit to see the accommodation before booking it. - A public platform is for posting reviews of the places and the experiences. I have explicitly mentioned that I have not stayed at the property at the start of my review . This was my experience with you even before being able to experience the property . There is no requirement to spend and stay at a property before Posting a review if the first experience of booking the property is by itself so bitter. Hope you take as much interest and enthusiasm to accommodate a " PROSPECTIVE" guest as you did in replying to my review. A negative review like mine is more of a feedback than a complaint, every guest has a situation and a request . You being in the hospitality industry should understand the situation rather than make it seem like a hindrance. Reviews is not offering a reply option to the previous review, therefore I had to post my reply as another review.

Thanga House is a multilayered experience of finesse, great architecture and little things that spell attention to detail. Located on Goldsmith Street, the place has a historical ring to it with the added sound of the waves lapping nearby. Every corner is very thoughtfully done and our room (Silver) was very comfortable. It has a private dipping pool which was almost clean (just request the caretaker to clean it and he'll do it for you, simple!) and what really stands out is the serenity of the place! The host kept me in the loop and the staff was helpful with whatever we needed. The breakfast was a simple helping of Dosa and accompaniments, it was perfectly splendid. Very homely. They were even careful to our request of coffee not being strong. A very lovely experience overall.

Facilities aren’t practical for modern living standards and for old people (beds are waay too high, steps are very steep, ambience is just a shady sketchy forest etc), inadequately maintained toilets and the so called swimming pools are “always under maintenance”. The food is overpriced, there is no “service” persay and forget about security at night. There are just 3 middle aged women staying there with you. I suggest you spend a bit more and stay in one of the more nicer Villas, stay away from this place.

Had wonderful stay here, if you are looking for classy, peaceful stay in a heritage spot. I would suggest you Thanga house strongly. The feel of an Dutch architect, lively antique collections, room atmosphere lovely helpers are defiantly applaudable. The owner/in charge is also cool and approachable for concerns.

Stay was very good and relaxing..Natasha took care of all our needs including our taste buds and arranged food menu accordingly. It was professionally handled by the team. Food is prepared home style and tasty. Place is meant for pure peace and very quiet in terms of sorroundings.Lots of beach nature and you hear the waves sound non stop which was mesmarizing..Its a different stay and not a routine kind...Will recommend..!!
