Old remodelled into new and charming. The crumbling relic of the Coffee house has been restored into a classic chic restaurant, keeping the heritage fascia intact. The furniture, flooring, wallpapers, decorated columns, all add up to the stylish, yet traditional, diner. Food is also better. They've introduced an upgraded multi-cuisine menu. The dishes are not exactly spot on. But the point is to enjoy hot food and a cup of tea in the backdrop of the sun-soaked beach. The experience of a western seaside food joint brewing in the calm breeze. A job done respectfully by the designer.

Nice ambience. A good spot to have food while enjoying the beauty of sea waves. We can enjoy the vibe there by chit-chatting along with the waves. Enjoy your fabulous time here with friends or family or couple when you are at the shangumukham beach. Food is okay. It takes time for food,so plan accordingly.

We had dinner from here recently. There was a slight waiting time. We tried the Chef Special Chicken Stew, Appam, Gobi Manchurian and Chicken Fried Rice & Tea. The food was decent. The chef special wasn't that special. Price is slightly on the higher side. It is the view that stands out. The ambiance is pretty decent. They accept card, cash n UPI.

Excellent atmosphere. Clean and tidy place. They offer decent food and the view of the beach is just beautiful from here. The price is affordable and good customer service too. One of the must go to places at Shangumugham for a calm relaxing time to enjoy to the fullest.

Initially, I had a bit of trouble trying to find the entrance to this place. Came here to have a quick bite around 3 pm and the place was practically empty as it was a weekday though it is usually crowded on the weekends and holidays. Service was good but a bit slow if it is crowded , great sea view and breeze as others have described. The food is good only but the best part of this place is the chicken cutlet which is to die for.Prices are nominal but a bit expensive for some items.

Have been here thrice now. The first two times we went in the evening. The service was good and everything that we ordered from the menu were available. The last we went for lunch , a bunch of items that we tried to order were not available. This is a lovely property over looking the beach. But sadly the approach road is restricted. Also the place has so much more potential to be a much better place. Which i hope and think will get better.

Really nice ambience with a sea facing view ♥️ Very good place for spending time with friends/family . They have a decent menu which includes both main course and snacks. I had a chai, masala omlette and a chicken cutlet and it was good :)

Last time I was here was more than a decade ago when this was “Indian coffee house”. So naming this the “old coffee house” brings back memories. Seems they only have outdoor seating , but the view is today’s the shore so a great pace to have dinner by sunset. The food is great and service is great.

Really nice place to wind down in the evening. It's ok on shangumugham beach itself and you can have your food watching the waves. To top it of they have amazing chicken cutlets and coffee. Tea is just average though, best avoided!

One of the best seashore restaurant in Kerala, located on the traditional building which we scene in many pictures and movies at Sankhumukham beach side. Almost 180 degree view is available with 3-4km seashore view, you can eat delicious foods with background view of sea. Best time to visit is between 5-7 pm. The golden hours view from this restaurant treat to watch. Only thing I feel bad is the seats are little small and the view from standing is amazing, so I feel rising little heights to chair gives great viewing experience. Nice ambiance and nice staffs.

Me and my couple of friends headed  to Sangumugham beach around 10 pm to take the edge off the intense heat this summer. We were starving and  urged to eat nearby (Since it's a Eid holiday and late as well, most of the restaurants were closed, so we didn't prefer ones). Waiter rushed us to put an order immediately coz they gonna close soon. We ordered porotta, chilli chicken, pepper chicken. We expected decent quality food, but totally disappointed.🙏🙏. Plz provide the knife to tear the porotta . It's really hard and partly burned. 😂.. Chilli chicken ,just okay..😊not bad Pepper chicken : Over cooked and poor quality meat. Worried a bit on stomach upset and we just pass on by hydrating ourselves. Dear Old coffee house please don't harm us by serving poor quality food. If food is not available/ not ready just say NO FOOD, we are happy to leave.🙂

Location of the place is excellent and the place is also neat and clean. The view is amazing and sunset can be enjoyed from this place. But the menu is very limited. They should include more items in the menu.

It was the old Indian coffee house . Some how they have maintained the old charm . Try to get the beach side tables . It’s best to enjoy the sunset with a coffee. When ever we go, we used to have their coffee and chicken cutlets . Chicken cutlets are good but not the veg ones . They are just average . A good place enjoy food with a great view

The name coffee house evokes memories of a time past. So does this one. The taste of the coffee served is unique and identical in Kerala and in Punjab. The specials like mutton omelette still have a taste and aroma of a departed time. The waiters take their time and generally don’t ask you go away after your coffee. As in most places parking is on the road.

This lively replica of the legendary Indian Coffee House admires the beauty of the Shangumugham beach, facing the sea-side (Indian Coffee House is a legend itself, indeed! No comparisons intended). The dining space relishes the customers with its cool, refreshing land breeze, a quite awesome experience. All indigenous types of cuisines are served mostly without fail. Subcontinental, Chinese and traditional items, both vegetarian & non-vegetarian. The restaurant is well good enough for a tea-time snack with friends/family; willing to admire the beauty of the beach & the exhilaration of the cool breeze. Food quality is quite good, even though it does not match with the authentic flavour & taste of Indian Coffee House. These is ample amount of dining space & open environment for chit-chats. Some demerits I notice is the slow attention of the waiters over the customers. Billing takes much longer time even after completion of ordering. Beverages are a bit above par priced & is much disproportionate. One typical example being the same price for Black coffee & Tea. Limited number of items are in overall, available in the restaurant. There is no provision for any of the well-accepted Arabian cuisines like Tandoori/Shawai/Al-Faham/Kebab series. Overall, the atmosphere is quite ambient in the restaurant, with open air environment housing more than 2/3rd of dining area. Well suitable for a snack time, sit-and-relax type of ambiance.

It's a beautiful and well-designed sea-facing restaurant. Ordered parotta, beef curry, and mixed fried rice, which was pretty decent. Staff assistance could have been better. I recommend everyone visiting Sanghumugham beach to definitely come to this restaurant. Make sure you have coffee here because it's the best.

This restaurant overlooks Shanghumugham Beach and has excellent view. People from an earlier generation will remember this place for the badminton court and skating rink. Visited the restaurant for dinner. Had to wait for a table. Service was very slow and the waiter was not focussed on our table. Water was served to us after food was served. Also, there was issue in the takeaway that we ordered. Cutlet was not available, though we looked forward to trying it. Ordered nool porotta, beef fry and beef varutharachathu. Food was tasty. Nool porotta is made to order, so takes time to reach the table. Pachamulaku juice was a medley of flavours, worth trying. We also ordered boost shake and lime juice, both tasted good. Dessert options are not many. We ordered sizzling brownie. The overall atmosphere was not that good, with a lot of noise around. Service needs improvement. The dishes we tried were good.

Although the atmosphere is fantastic, the food was terrible. Tea,Kantari chicken, porotta, and Nadan chicken curry were among the items we ordered. The tea was mediocre, the porotta was cold, and the kanthari chicken literally tasted like aviyal. Perhaps it would be preferable to indulge in some starters instead of the main course . Even so, it appears to be an affordable location.

Its a good spot for grabbing a bite while enjoying the beauty of the beach. The food is average, there is nothing more to it, tasted just like other normal restaurant food. We got served really nicely, the waiter was so patient, he gave us our food without any delay or didn't had to wait a lot. Ambience is kudos ✨ Really peaceful, harmonious vibe. A must visit place while ur at the beach.

After seeing many negative reviews I was doubtful to visit here. But the food was good, evening vibes in a beach side made a feel good factor. Service and ambience was ok.There is no parking facility near the restaurant.

  • 3/5 Elizabeth J. 11 months ago on Google
Given this is the only available near Shankumagam beach, the place could have materialised on its monopoly. On the contrary it fails to be meet the standards expected. Food was decent definitely not exceptional , however I would give my points to the courteous and energetic staff. I must also specifically mention about the mint lemon tea which was exceptionally good . Overall a decent place serving as a beach side restaurant.

I would give 2.5 stars. The best place, location wise to have a cup of coffee or more and pass time in the evening, however there's nothing more than decent veg cutlets, omlette, tea and barely some juices on the menu. The pleasure of sitting next to the sea shore restaurant could quadraple with an experience of a decent culinary or confectionery delight, which is missing. It seemed as if the menu serves as a deterrence for guests wanting to sit for a longer time. The food and tea preparation needs a lot of improvement, definitely. Since the beach is closed, this restaurant is closest one could get to the sea and experience the breeze. Parking is on the roadside and there are not much eateries in the business during these difficult times. Happy sea watching!!!! Like it if it has helped you.

The ambience is really nice with external seating. The food is satisfactory and arrived on time. There could be crowd at times but the ambience drowns the waiting period- a good place to hang out with friends. The mojito was very good, the curries were bit loose in consistency. The tea & coffee is really impressive.

Today our visit to the Old Coffee House was a culinary journey with a mix of hits and misses. The BBQ chicken wings, while not extraordinary, offered a decent flavor, but the Prawns fry fell short of expectations. The real stars of the today meal were the Appam and Fish Moly. The Appam's delicate texture paired perfectly with the rich and flavorful Fish Moly, creating a combination that truly stood out. The Chicken Noodles and Chicken Tikka showcased the kitchen's prowess, delivering satisfying dishes that pleased the palate. The Sizzling Brownie was a delightful finale, offering a perfect balance of sizzling warmth and chocolatey indulgence. However, the Pineapple Juice, despite its cost, didn't quite meet expectations, leaving room for improvement. Despite a few misses, the Old Coffee House manages to charm with its diverse menu and standout dishes. With some fine-tuning, it has the potential to become a go-to spot for a seaside culinary experience..

A beach side restaurant. The beautiful interior and exterior attracts people. We Tried their special sea food continental dish. The taste was good but the quantity was little compared to the price. The presentation of the dish was good but the french fries accompanied with the dish were satisfying the name of the restaurant; yes, it was old.

Old coffee house which was formerly the Indian coffee house is a sweet place to hangout with an amazing view of the ocean. But their current service and quality of the food has gone downhill. Ordered a few dishes but the meat was not fresh, and the gravy lacked flavour. Would really suggest to look into this and bring back the quality. Pricing is also slightly on the expensive side.
