Attukal Bhagavathy Temple which is also known as Women's Sabarimala is situated in the Trivandrum city. It is very famous along with Padmanabha Swamy Temple and Ganapathy Temple Pazhavangady. Usually bit crowded almost all days escpacially evening schedules. Most of the days there will be somekind of programs will be held on the front stage of the temple like arangettam of childrens..... Highly Devoted Great Ambience..... Amble parking space is one another speciality. We can park more than 1k cars and more than 100 buses. That much huge parking space for free available here. One one cons which i have noticed is, as this is such a crowded place, the temple authorities need to pay little more attention to toilet facilities. There is one pay and use toilet but cant handle more people it seems. We will get a positive vibe when visiting this temple 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

There are two stories related to the origin of temple. The first story goes like this. Mulluveetil is an ancient house in this place. One day in an evening the karanavar(head of the family)was doing his oblation in the Killi River. There he saw a beautiful little girl nearby the river. The girl requested the karanavar to help her in crossing the river. The Karanavar helped the girl, stunned by seeing a little girl alone the river side, he took the girl to his house. The Other members of the family gave a warm welcome to the girl. After some time the little girl disappeared from that house. On that day the Karanavar saw a dream. In the dream the girl revealed herself as the goddess, the incarnation of Goddess Vishnumaya. The girl shown a grove near his house and said that she had drawn 3 lines in a particular spot in the grove, he should build a shrine in that place. The next day the karanavar went to the spot and saw the lines and immediately a temple was built in that place. The second mythology of the origin of the Attukal temple is related to Chilappathikaram, a famous work composed by Elenkovadikal in sangam period. Chilappathikaram says the story of Kannaki and son of a rich merchant Kovilan. Kannaki was Kovilan's wife. After their marriage, Kovilan fell into love with a dancer Madhavi. He spent all his wealth for Madhavi. When he lost every thing he returned back to kannaki. At that time the only wealth remained with her was a pair of leg anklets. Kannaki told Kovilan to sell one of her anklet. Kovilan went to the market to sell this anklet. At that time Madhurai was ruled by King Nedunj Cheliyan1, who belong to Pandya Dynasty. When he came to the market soldiers of pandya Raja mistaken that the anklet with Kovilan belonged to the Queen of the kingdom. The Queen's Ornament was stolen by some one. Angered king Ordered to kill Kovilan. When Kannaki heard the news, she rushed to the Palace and showed the another anklet with her. The anklet of queen's was made of pearls but the kannaki's anklet was made with Ruby. Distressed king and Queen end their life after this incident. Thus Kannaki cursed that entire Madurai kingdom be burnt. She excluded children and old people from the curse. Her curse become a reality which results in huge economic and human loss. Later she withdraw her curse. After this She came to kerala through Kanyakumari. On the way to Kodungallur(a place in kerala) she came through Attukal and rested there. Ladies there gave a warm welcome to kannaki by making pongal. Later a temple was built in the place where kannaki took rest. This is another story behind origin of Attukal Temple. Main Deity is Kannaki and the other deities in the temple are Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Lord Serpant, Madan Thampuran. Chattambi Swamikal, a famous Social reformer in the history of kerala found this divine temple as a place for meditation. A temple of Chattambi Swamikal can also be found here.

Attukal Bhagavathy Temple was located in one of the prime locations in Thiruvanthapuram. The temple had a ample parking space for four wheelers. The temple has a clear sign boards and has good ventilation. It was one of the powerful temples in the city along side padmanapaswamy temple and pazhavangadi temple. We went around the evening when the temple scheduled to open around 5:30 pm. The temple had a quite a crowd in that time they handled the crowd really well opened on time and handled it properly. We had good dharsahan there the apam served as prasadham in the couner could have been better compared to the other temples serving it. On a whole we had a peaceful dharshan when we went there.

Attukkal Bhagvathy temple is one of the most popular temples in Trivandrum along with Padmanapaswamy temple and Pazhavangadi temple. The attukal pongala is the main festival here. We had visited in Feb 2022, when the 10 day long festival before Pongala had started. It was more crowded than usual but still very well managed. The police was making sure that good covid protocols are maintained. There is ample parking space. For the festival lot of shops have opened near the temple. There is also a KSRTC bus stand in the temple parking for devotees

The Attukal Bhagavathy Temple, located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India, is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess Attukal Bhagavathy. The temple complex features traditional South Indian architectural elements, including a main sanctum, various halls, and surrounding courtyards. The deity, Attukal Bhagavathy, is believed to be a form of the goddess Parvati, and she is worshipped for her protective and nurturing qualities. The temple is most renowned for the annual Attukal Pongala festival, a unique event where millions of women come together to prepare a ritualistic offering known as "Pongala." This offering is made in clay pots and consists of rice, jaggery, coconut, and other ingredients. The festival's highlight is the moment when the chief priest lights a fire and blesses the Pongala pots, infusing them with divine grace. The Attukal Pongala festival holds a Guinness World Record for hosting the largest gathering of women for a religious activity. During this time, the city of Thiruvananthapuram transforms as devotees from various parts of the country and the world come to participate in the festival. The temple's historical and cultural significance, as well as its unique festivals, make it a central point of devotion and attraction for people seeking spiritual solace and cultural experiences in Kerala.

A very good temple for the Goddess situated in Thiruvananthapuram. . Visited in evening, this was easy darshan, has some crowded but better than some temples of Kerala like Guruvayur. . Place is big, and there are some events going on in the temple premises like songs being played.

The Attukal Bhagavathy Temple is a Hindu religious shrine at Attukal in Kerala, India. Goddess Bhadrakali (Kannaki), mounted over 'vethala', is the main deity in this temple. Bhadrakali, a form of Mahakali, who killed the demon king Daruka, believed to be born from the third eye of lord Shiva. 'Bhadra' means good and 'Kali' means goddess of time. So Bhadrakali is considered as the goddess of prosperity and salvation. Goddess 'Attukal devi', itself is the supreme mother 'Bhaadrkali devi', (in soumya aspect) the goddess of power and courage. She is often referred as Kannaki, the heroine of Ilanko Adikal's 'Silapathikaaram'. The temple is renowned for the annual Attukal Pongal festival, in which over three million women participate.[1] A festival that has figured in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the single largest gathering of women for a religious activity, the Attukal Pongala continues to draw millions of women with each passing year. According to the Attukal Temple Trust, around 4.9 million devotees are expected to attend the pongala in 2016. Attukal Temple is situated near the heart of the city, 2 kilometres away from Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, East Fort in Thiruvananthapuram. Devotees believe that all of their wishes will be fulfilled by the goddess, provide prosperity and can attain salvation. Attukal devi is often worshipped in 3 forms such as Maha Saraswati (goddess of knowledge, arts, and language), Maha Lakshmi (goddess of wealth, auspiciousness, and power) and Mahakali/ Parvathy

"Bhagavathy Amma Sharnam". The serenity and divinity of the holy place is in exuberance. You will start feeling as soon as you reach its compounds. Well maintained (cleaned) and all the COVID guidelines followed in letter and spirit. Covered head not allowed as was seen by the temple management ensuring it. Inside photography not allowed. There's a ample space for parking. Located at the parking place "Indian Coffee House" is worth visiting after having Darshan. There's prasadam counter inside the temple premises where it can be obtained on payment. I loved this place.
