One of the rare museums in India. The very attraction of this museum is rare and great collection of oil paintings of Raja Ravi Verma, well known in portraying the Indian culture and Hindu gods. The display of the paintings in the hall are well organised and maintained. Oil paintings are in the main building in two floors. The building itself is very artistic, coloured white and terracotta. Another small block for other paintings is there. Entry cost is Rs25.00 per head. Good thing is that you are allowed to take the photos of the exhibits. Whatever many the quality of your camera, but it can’t capture 1% off of the photo. Must visit place in Trivandrum.

Wonderful place for art enthusiasts. The gallery is located within the Napier museum complex and houses a collection of works by the finest artists of our land, including the likes of Raja Ravi Varma. Mural paintings from temples and palaces are also put on exhibition. Original works which have been taken up by the government for conservation have been displayed. However, for a place that could enlighten a lot of us about our rich artistic heritage, there are hardly any information boards on the paintings. At least the year of the painting, the media used, the style followed could all be displayed as further insights to the visitors. Involving the students of fine arts could help. Most people spend 1-2 hours at the gallery, but that can be easily stretched if they can provide more insights to the visitors about the artworks displayed.

Sri Chitra Art Museum is not very large but it is located in a scenic location right next to the zoo. It is famous for having many Raja Ravi Varma paintings and those of his relatives and mentor. Also has some mural paintings and other artists. Wish there was more written about the other artists and their history.

The Sri Chitralayam, popularly known as Sri Chitra Art Gallery, was opened to the public by the erstwhile Maharaja of Travancore Sri Chitra Thirunal on the 25th of September 1935 for the enjoyment, education and development of artistic taste of the people. It has a collection of paintings representing the various genres of paintings in India, along with a few from other parts of Asia with a distinct stamp of Indian culture. The Gallery was reconstructed out of two bungalows side by side in the museum Gardens. The Construction, furnishing of exhibits and hanging was done under the direction of Dr. Cousins, the well known exponent of art and literature. He was instrumental in assembling this collection of paintings from various places. He spared no efforts in furnishing this gallery with rare and representative specimens of paintings from near and far. A large collection of paintings is a generous gift from the Royal House of Travancore and also from Kilimanoor Royal family. The major attraction of Sri Chitra Art Gallery is the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma. He is one among the greatest painters of India.

Finding this place is a task in itself. The main entry for the gallery and the Zoo is the same. You can buy the ticket for the gallery inside. This place houses many paintings and sketches by Raja Ravi Varma. I just wished they allowed photography inside the premises.

Great place for art lovers. Stunning drawings are displayed here of various artists including Raja Ravi Varma. The entry pass is low and reasonable at present rates as it is ₹20 (looks like it was ₹10 till lately, see photo). Apart from drawings there are others antiques including the Sword of Velu Thampi Dhalava. Many more items are there to explore. Check in here also if you came across the zoo.

It's the jackpot for art lovers. It has collection of paintings of the famous Raja Ravi Verma and other artist. It also have some collection of kerala traditional paintings. You have to enter the trivandrum zoo main gate but not the inner zoo gate. You are not allowed to the water bottle but you are allowed to snap photos. It would be ideal place for people to look at history and source of inspiration. So why not take your art loving buddy there with you and snap photo with some of the great work of famous Indian Painter.

Many works of art by Raja Ravi Varma and his contemporaries housed in a beautiful structure of typical Kerala architecture. A showcase of 18th and 19th century Indian art, this is a must visit on your culture trip through Kerala along with the Travancore palaces.

The best display of Raja Ravi Varma and his family's art. Also the best place to enjoy the pre-independence non contemporary art of various other artists, both Indian and colonial British. All the crowd is at the zoo and hence the gallery is free most of the time. Entry is ₹20 and you can visit two other art galleries in the same zoo premise.

Amazing collection of art but in complete neglect! I took my 9 year old daughter there to show her Raja Ravi Varma paintings. The collection is so good and I will also recommend the Roerich paintings. So, if the paintings are so good you will ask me why only 2 stars. Sigh.... This valuable collection lies in a state of neglect. They are completely exposed to the elements outside. A strong rain will easily send water drops nside the gallery. Power went out twice during the 1 hour I was there. They turned on the backup generator only after 10-15 minutes. The real joke is when they say photography is not allowed inside. I am sure that these paintings won't last for another 20-30 years the way they are kept.

Nice place for art lovers. The gallery has works of Ravi Varma and Raja Varma mainly. They also have traditional Chinese, Japanese, Mughal, rajput, tanjore paintings. Modern paintings mainly by Roerich also can be seen. The gallery is situated close to the zoo, within the campus. They've converted traditional tiled house into an art gallery. One house has entire collection of Ravi Varma, which is a feast to the eyes.
