The museum building itself is unique. Located on an elevated place, this museum catches the eyes of the visitor of the zoo. The artefacts in bronze and wood are beautiful. Takes you back to the centuries old tradition and culture. I request the people take your kids to this magnificent place of history and let them learn what our history has to offer. Beautify maintained museum. Then entry fee is affordable, but the best part is, it’s completely air conditioned. After tiring walk in the zoo, entering this museum makes us forget it all. Loved how the specimens are preserved. Very neat & clean. Overall loved this place. A must visit.

Small but well curated - at least better than others we saw in Kerala. The ivory section is amazing but needs some conservation message caveats. The audio guide option needs to be promoted at the ticket counter.

Amazing experience. The zoo and museums amaze you the most. Amongst Raja Ravi Varma Paintings are the most adorable things I have seen. Worth every penny if you visit. Must visit places in trivendrum. It takes a complete whole day to finish the entire napier museum and zoo within. Overall experience is thrilled in every single stage.

Napier Museum is the most famous museum in the city of Trivandrum. It is located within the campus of the archaeological survey of India and also is in the proximity of the Trivandrum zoo. This is one of the top museums to visit whenever in the city. The entry ticket is nominal and the place can be covered in about one and half hour. It offers great insights into the culture of Kerala and the royal family of Travancore with some of the artefacts presented here. Photography is not allowed inside without a ticket.

The Napier Museum in Thiruvananthapuram is a captivating blend of history and art. Walking through its corridors feels like stepping into Kerala's rich cultural heritage. The exhibits are diverse and well-curated, offering insights into the region's past, from ancient artifacts to colonial influences. The museum's architecture itself is a sight to behold, with its Indo-Saracenic style adding to the charm of the experience. One of the best museums and park in the whole of Kerala. The Napier museum building is an architectural masterpiece. It offers very detailed wood carvings and awe inspiring views. The adjacent park is well maintained with ample walkways and rest places. Its best suited for morning and evening strolls. There is a magnificent radio kiosk inside the park is an attraction. This park is also the entrance for the famous Thrivananthapuram Zoo.

One of the best places to visit in Thiruvananthapuram. Near this place there is a zoo and museums. There are not so many hotels near this place but there is a stall that sells jail foods like biriyani, chapatti, dosa, chicken curry etc. But inside this place there are small stalls which sell ice cream, juices and so on. There are a lot of things there to enjoy one of them is the radio tower which I mentioned in the picture. It is built in such a way that the sound gets amplified without any speakers.

A great place with soothing Ambience surrounded by well maintained greenery. Good spot to sit alone, relax, read books, think deeply or to have meaningful conversations. Personally I feel its better to go there on evenings of working days so that the crowd will be less and it will be much more quieter. Huge crowd on holidays kill that quiet calm vibe. Overall the best in trivandrum, pretty neat place to relax.

The Museum is good with mostly the personal collections of Travancore Royal Family.Photography is not allowed. The building is nice, its a big premise containing the Shree Chitra Art gallary, the zoo and the Fish Aquarium.A basic collection of statues including various artifacts from Java and Bali! Not very large at all - an hour or less to stroll through the two galleries. The evenings are good here. One of the iconic landmark areas in Thiruvananthapuram, the old style building with red and white bricks is noticeable from the main road. This museum showcases the pinnacle of artistry and mastery in sculpture achieved by the Kings of travancore dynasty. Sad that its named after a British governor General, whose contributions to the treasure housed within are close to nil. The huge halls could greatly benefit from AC, but the visit is well worth it for witnessing the resplendent beauty of sculptures and carvings of the era gone by.

Its an eco friendly zoo. I liked the fact that the zoo is plastic free. The security guards will check your bags and will ensure that you don't carry any plastic bags into the zoo. Instead they will provide with paper covers to put your food which i really felt proud to see. If you are carrying water in plastic bottle, you need to deposit 20rs and they will refund you when you return and show the bottle. They will place a sticker on the bottle when you pay the deposit amount. There is a lot to walk in this zoo. But its worth it. You can see lots of animals, birds, reptiles etc. The compound has museum, zoo and art gallery. The tickets are separate for each. Do not be in a hurry when you visit this place. Take your time and experience well.

The facade is gorgeous. And it ends there. The interiors have seen far better days. Almonard pedestal fans are strewn all over the place. They haven't been cleaned in ages. Majority of the spot lights do not work. The paltry entrance fee of twenty rupees will in no way help maintain this historical monument.

Gives a detail history of Kerala culture, tradition and life style of olden days. The park outside is panoramic and relaxing. Zoo, aquarium, reptile house etc. are in the same complex. You may park the car inside with a fee. To explore the zoo, there are battery cars available at an additional charge which is advisable as you can avoid the long walk and the person will guide you with details.. A must place to visit when you are in capital city especially for kids

The museum is as good as small it is. It is one of those places which you can really admire without getting tired. Most of the structure is built from timber which are finely and beautifully carved in floral patterns. The central hall has the ceiling height of modern day 3 storey building easily with carved and painted wooden beams running throughout. The museum is bilaterally symmetrical. It has colored glass clerestory windows on both sides. The artifacts displayed inside are antiques and beautiful. Photography is not allowed inside the bulding.

When completed, this should be a great place for outdoor activities. There is a pool which was closed due to current pandemic situation. Some nursery plants also sold here. Ticket rates are reasonable. There is a lake right opposite which is not well maintained, but deserves a walk. You get a good breeze. And also the park around is a wonder as it provides a most relaxing environment in the busy life of city life and also act as a catalyst for the social interaction. And the best part of the landscape in the park that attracted me is the presence of non common trees, which have fully grown through the years, and the management has shown their kindness to tag each tree with its common and botanical name as well as its use, which is very helpful for someone like me who is a landscape architect practicing in Kerala.

The museum was first established in 1855,[4] but demolished in 1874 to lay foundation for a new building, during the reign of Ayilyam Thirunal.[5] The new building was named after Lord Napier, the Governor of Madras from 1866-1872. The museum was designed by Robert Chisholm, the consulting Architect of the Madras Government, and the construction was completed in 1880. This museum houses some rare and unusual collection of historic and archaeological artefacts, ancient ornaments, bronze idols and ivory carvings. A visit to Napier Museum will give the visitor a glimpse of the rich Kerala's cultural heritage and significance making it the best place to visit for history lovers and students. This old museum established by Sri Uthram Thirunal, was demolished during the reign of Ayilyam Thirunal as it was not large enough to display the immense collection of artifacts and therefore the present Napier Museum was built. The main motto behind the formation was to provide instruction and encouragement in arts and crafts exhibiting specimens of interest in natural history and products of art and industry, both native and foreign.

It's a calm and quiet place. You can come here with your family during the weekends. The zoo will not open on Mondays. There is no fee to enter the park but you have to pay a small amount to enter the zoo and historical and art gallery. Must come and visit

A good palce to spend your time. It has a huge garden around the museum that's full of trees, medicinal plants and other gardening plants where you can spend an entire day carrying on with your work or other activities. Do visit this Museum to find out the history of Indian Currency and the arts of Kerala.

Well maintained and a beautiful place. The architecture, trees, nearby zoo, give a good ambience and it's nice to sit with friends. It's actually a quiet place where people don't make unnecessary noise so it's even better to study too in this environment.

It's a good place for enthusiasts in the history of the Travancore kingdom. The interesting artefacts for me were those Statues of Buddha that give us interesting insight of influence of Buddhism in then rulers. The architecture of the museum itself is exciting.

This place is truly a hidden gem! Hard to find but when you do, it is totally worth it. This beautifully designed space. Our visit was elegantly conducted and was very educational. It was an honour to access the curated museum. We saw the factory and the skilled craftsmen at work. You could feel the vibe, the passion and the sense of aesthetics of the founder. A man of taste who you can discover through the visit. The brand is full of heritage and vision translated into the collection which they make with the most personalised experience. This is probably my favourite place in Thiruvananthapuram, just because of the amount of thinking and style that has gone into making this space and designing the experience. The Trivandrum corporation is maintaining well. Thank you thank you

Beautifully organized and managed place which witholds it's own charm of being an old age moder architecture. Ticket is 20 bucks and due to lesser number of artifacts this place can be a quick add-on to your trip to Trivanduram.

This is a decent spot. The royal residence is embellished with divider compositions and structural works. There is a great deal of shade trees around the castle so you can unwind with great breezes. Inside the royal residence there are numerous coins, models and instruments of the regal period.Entrance charge is only 20 rupees. The zoo is situated by the historical center. There is additionally a little park for kids to play. With regards to a vacation, how about we glance back at one of the most seasoned. Certainly an absolute necessity see.

Must place to visit in Trivamdrum,it has idols which are from 7th century or so..some are made out of wood, some are of metal and some of stone.. It has a mini model of giruvayur temple.... Which is made out wood, some awesome art pieces made out of ivory.. And also the currency used by the kings back then. And some costumes of the dance form.... It's an awesome place to visit...the museum is surrounded by the park view.. One can see so many people in the evening... there is also zoo next to it... Worth a visit(both zoo and the museum )

A peaceful place in Trivandrum city where you can spend your evening with family or go for a morning walk. This is the only place in the city where you can see a plenty of squirrels, pigeons, and parrots. You can enter the Napier Museum, the zoo, the Museum of Natural History, and the aquarium within the same compound. You also have children's park that gets really crowded in the evenings.

The entry price is reasonable.... The surrounding of teh museum is very gud if u r in search of a good spot for photography with an amazing view.... The museums exterior is simple wow.... Overall yeah I'd say it's a place to visit and if u aren't a fan of history please do not skip this place even if it reeks of history the history is worth knowing.

It contains a host of historical artifacts including bronze idols, ancient mammals, a temple chariot and ivory carvings. The Natural History Museum also situated on the Museum compound, has come excellent exhibits like the skeletal bird, animal and taxidermy galleries.

A lot of historical artifacts of importance are exhibited. Bronze, wood and stone sculptures of Hindu pantheon and Buddha from the Gandhara period of 2nd century CE to 18th century CE from various places in India as well as neighbouring countries. In addition there are many royal artifacts that are related to the erstwhile Travancore kingdom. The sculptures belongs to Chera, Chola, Pandya and other major south Indian dynasties such as Vijayanagara, Sathavahana etc. The numismatic collection include those of the above mentioned ones and also of the Indo-Roman and the Indo-European of the last five centuries. The museum building itself is of historical value, built in the 18th century. Entry fee for an Indian adult is 20 rs.only.

Beautiful memories over here. This place is so beautiful and gives you the taste of rich cultural heritage that Kerala is known for. Some of the finest collection and some mind blowing innovations centuries ago. I had been here with a friend trying to get information about the history of this uniqueness. This place is good but not maintained well. The staff is least bothered and have an typical government employee attitude. They need to have some good staff and brief them about the place.

This museum is a home to a lot of ancient idolswhich date back to even 12th and 13th centuries. There were idols of Lord Krishna, Buddha and even a miniature structure of the Guruvayur Temple. Some of these were collected by Sree Chitra Thirunal himself.

I mean, it's a museum! There is only so much you can do here. Although, it's one of the top places as there are limited "touristy" things to do in Trivandrum. So you can visit once as there are some undeniably interesting things.
