Halcyon Castle was built in 1932 in the princely state of Travancore, in the modern-day state of Kerala, India. It was constructed by M.R.Ry Sri Rama Varma Valiya Koil Thampuran, the consort of H.H. Maharani Sethu Lakshmi Bayi, as a retreat for their family. In 1964 Valiya Koil Thampuran sold the entire property the Government of Kerala; since then the property has been converted into a deluxe hotel. A dispute arose when the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), which was running the hotel, sold it to a private hotel resort group. The NRI businessman Dr Ravi Pillai now owns the hotel and the entire adjoining land area measuring around 65 acres; he has contracted with the Leela Hotel Group to manage the 5-Star, deluxe hotel

Halcyon Castle was as a family retreat built for the royal family of Maharani Sethu Lakshmi Bai. The castle is located in Travancore in God's Own Country, Kerala. The splendid castle is an example of the traditional architecture of Travancore. The beautiful expansive lawn all around the magnificent castle is a treat to the eyes. The castle was sold to the Government of Kerala after which a hotelier bought it and opened it to the public as a 5-Star Hotel in Kovalam. There have been several owners of the hotel till date. However, the majestic Halcyon Castle never fails to attract tourists from all over the world.

Castle located inside leela raviz. Normally tourists are not allowed. Those who visit the leela raviz restaurant can see the castle form outside. Totally leela raviz itself is must visit resort.

Beautiful location. Just be calm if you want to pass through as a visitor. Don't disturb the peacefulness of the place. Enjoy the view and stop this crazy selfie nonsense. It's a part of hotel Raviz. Since it's a heritage site They have their security protocol to follow. If your staying at hotel raviz, they will arrange for you to see the place from the inside.

The entire area including the castle is under the ownership of a resort. Thus tourists are generally not allowed to visit the castle. But the entire atmosphere is very pleasant. Many peacocks are present in the garden.

The Halcyon Castle is a stone mansion built in 1930 by the Consort of the Regent Maharani of Travancore on rock promontory overlooking the Arabian Sea in hippy idyll; a picture perfect tropical beach and traditional fishing village of Kovalam. This part of the Raviz hotel (formally the Leela Palace) in Kovalam. We stayed at the Raviz and it was utterly disappointing. The service was poor, the food was below average and the accommodation needs major updating. While the management try their best the staff need serious training. The Raviz does not deserve to be a 5 star hotel.
