Kovalam
Surf
Club
is
a
mission
based
organisation
to
bring
surfing
for
the
benefit
of
the
poor.
I
have
taken
over
7
days
of
classes
and
this
review
is
based
on
my
experiences.
The
surf
club
offers
lessons
for
learner’s
of
all
stages
and
rents
boards
as
well.
The
club
is
mostly
used
by
foreign
tourists
but
is
open
to
everyone.
I
took
classes
alongside
learner’s
from
Germany
and
US.
We
had
boys
and
girls
as
well
learning
surfing
here.
Shah,
Kannappa
and
Akhil
are
trainers
currently
on
rolls
and
are
experienced
surfers
with
training
on
life
guard
skills.
Shah
is
the
most
experienced
of
the
trio
and
a
great
teacher.
The
money
that
you
pay
for
a
lesson
(1500Rs
for
a
private
lesson
for
1.5
hours)
goes
to
benefit
the
community
school
project
that
is
run
by
the
SISP
foundation
to
give
local
school
dropouts
a
free
second
chance
at
education.
The
ethos
of
the
surf
school
“No
school,
No
Surf”
was
laid
in
2005-06
by
Ela
from
Belgium
who
came
to
volunteer
at
SISP
and
started
giving
free
surf
lessons
to
students
who
attended
all
five
days
of
school.
The
waves/swell
at
Kovalam
are
different
every
day
and
based
on
the
conditions,
the
instructor
would
choose
a
point
near
the
light
house
or
at
a
point
in
the
long
beach
which
is
suitable.
Mornings
are
generally
the
best
time
to
surf
with
less
wind.
There
is
a
group
of
surfers
who
come
regularly
on
evenings
to
surf
during
sunset.
The
depth
of
sea
is
also
not
deep
and
is
sure
beginner
friendly.
Don’t
forget
to
bring
your
shorts
to
the
class.
Enjoy
the
beach
with
a
safe
surfing
lesson
