While the location of this property is at a very convenient and accessible place, the rooms and amenities are not on par with the cost of the room. Both me and my wife got a fever while staying here for 2 days. I believe the central AC filter has never been cleaned or bedsheets are not changed for every guest. Would not stay here again and not recommended.

Used the Banquet hall for a get together meeting. The food was decent. It was South Indian, not much of items but the items which were served was filling. There is only one washroom outside the banquet hall which makes it a difficult access. The parking also is a bit congested. 25 cars maybe can be parked at a time. 5 star rating just for the food. For everything else it is just a "Normal" hotel. Old styled. Outdated. But Location makes it prominent.

Authentic no frills south indian meals and snacks. Value for money. Excellent location. Can get a bit too noisy at times. We were not guests of the hotel

Had meals and it tastes great but very slow service. Had to keep asking the attenders to place the leaf and bring food...and big irritation when you are hungry... suggest this place if you're laid back and no problem with slow service.

The attitude the servers have is unacceptable. The management is definitely pampering these servers. Expect the restaurant’s reputation to tarnish like slow-poisoning. Food is incredibly tasteful though. It is very well air-conditioned with comfy seats. The less you speak to the servers, the better your day’s going to get.

Such a nostalgic package this place! Been here after 25 years…! It’s been renovated and there’s an additional lift and overall some spruce up. But what’s not changed is the food! The dosas, the meals, the lime and grape juice - the taste stays the same! The rooms have lost their charm post the renovation - missed those balconies and incredible view of the sea. Kudos for the management to still keep this place running and in good spirit! Heartened to see some of the folks in the restaurant from 25 years back! This place packs too much of an emotional quotient to warrant a rating - but still a couple of things that they could improve to keep up with the times: 1. Toilet paper and a mat outside the shower area 2. Electric kettle and provision of basic toiletries. I took my daughters here after feeding them quite a few stories of folklore of this place. They liked it but then just a few changes can make Maris really the everlasting landmark it is.

A classic place with a legacy Ample parking and a lovely High Quality Veg food, Probably the only Vegetarian Bar In Chennai. Excllent Bar, and Good Service. The Hotel as such is very well maintained .There is Ample parking but always tight to get a spot, its Located in the Prime Locality. This is my fourth visit and the food was consistent and tasted the same. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I can't wait to stay there and review their rooms.

Food was good, but at the rate the service goes, people will stop coming. Too much attitude by the servers. When we ask rice he says first time you said enough and now ur asking. What’s the point of unlimited meals when sweets extra is charged. He could have informed upfront. They refuse mother to feed a child of 5+ years the same meals and insist on ordering a separate meals for the child. What type of hotel expects a child to eat full meals.

Old and traditional hotel. The location is the high point of the place. It is close to beach, city center, satyam cinemas, consulates, etc. The rooms could be better but is neat and clean. Room rates are pretty reasonable as well.

Hotel Maris has been our home away from home for Chennai visits since 2013. The price is so right (actually very good) and the location is perfect. The rooms have had some upgrade done. The toilets are very well done. Except the flush. The flush doesn't seem to work. Still a few things would be nice. * Door keys could become scan keys. * More power ports esp on the other side of the bed with a small side table. * Better cable and remote. * change the archaic switches and fan control " make the AC controls better (the touch screen is not working well), maybe an AC remote. Be prepared to have a local phone number if you need the Wi-Fi password. There is no other way for them to send the password other than to an Indian mobile number. That sucks if you have a foreign mobile number. The onsite laundry is fine. Be prepared to pay separately for the laundry in cash. The restaurant downstairs is the best. Good vegetarian food and at a very reasonable price. Extra food options on weekends. The mini store downstairs is very well stocked for all your needa, from toiletries to snacks to soft drinks to energy drinks to water to coffee/tea powders from their estates. The front desk staff are very helpful. The ladies in the morning are always smiling and go the extra mile to help or answer your questions. Nice to see them when you come down in the morning - they brighten up your day. Overall, great place.

It's too bad I went to the Maris bar and restaurant on the advice of an old colleague. Typically, they serve the first drink in a whiskey glass, followed by 30 or 60 ml glasses, finally counting the drinking class + drink serving classes. Here, I've had a negative encounter with the bartender, who has a habit of defrauding new clients. He first placed the empty drinking class alongside the serving class, then counted the empty drinking class as drink consumed. This is a deceptive business practice. We demonstrated this cheating mentality to Manager. The manager appears diplomatic, dismissing the cheating claims but failed to acknowledge his bartender was cheating. I'm not sure about everyone's hands and clove. Keep an eye out for your drink being served at good old THE MARIS HOTEL

A favourite Joint, especially for traditional south Indian meals, so conveniently located. Parking arrangements should be improved.

Great place for a comfortable stay. Ideally located. Spaceous rooms. The best part is the in house restaurant. One of the best vegetarian restaurants in the city. Excellent service. Rooms would require little more upgrade in terms of additional power points.

I and my friends are regular visitors to this well maintained Hotel Restaurant for over two decades. It is beautifully renovated n expanded now. Kudos. While we were very happy with the service all these years, today, we had an unpleasant experience here. As we requested for Kuruma instead of potato as side dish for Poori, the order taker initially refused serving them; on insistence, he said extra price will be charged for kuruma. We were surprised, as it was not so all these years; still, we accepted. Poori with Kuruma (without potato) was served. But we were charged for Poori-potato plus kuruma. When we questioned the order taker for being charged for potato too, which was not served at all, he maintained it as the hotel's practice. To prove his point, he cited parcel meals will be charged the same price, even if one is taking the meals with or without rice. We felt aghast. Earlier, it was not so. Its not for the few odd rupees that we were charged today, but the practice of charging customers for NOT-TAKEN items too is really bad. We felt cheated and if the order taker's version (both, for poori & meals without rice) is correct, then, we feel, the customers are being cheated blatantly by the restaurant. The cost of renovation should not be recovered this way. The hotel would do well to review these recent unfair practices.

We have been to Maris so many times for its taste ,hygiene etc. Yesterday when we had visited we had a very bad experience. The one that showed that they were least bothered about customer satisfaction. 6 of us went( 4 adults and two kids). All that we asked them was to join two tables so that we could spend quality time together. But they were not even ready to make this small arrangement. We wanted a 4 seater table joined with a two seater table. We even told them that we had to go to some other restaurant if we cannot eat together. They said its ok for them if we leave, but they cannot do that since they cannot serve comfortably. We had recommended Maris to this friend as they had not been there at all and both of us had come from Nanganallur just to have lunch here. Is it not a normal thing in restaurants where 6 people sit together. They were not bothered that 2 kids had also come. Such a poor management. We felt very embarrassing when our friend's family were also disappointed with our recommendation.

The food was good but they waiter’s need to learn what is customer service i stayed in the hotel for 5days and every time when i went down for the restaurant to have food none of them were bothered on providing a good service and they charge for a extra plate when i order breakfast , Really restaurant needs to pick it up and teach all you waiter’s to serve and do they job and as it is, it was ridiculous the way they keep their faces while serving food, even the restaurant manager was rude and I’m totally disappointed with this restaurant.

The hotel is under renovation, the staff are really good. But the only issue is you should have reference when you lodge at this hotel. The service if based on that connect

Excellent place for pure South Indian veg food. Very clean and the paratha-kurma served in the evenings is one of the best I have eaten! Well located - just a few bus stops from the beach or a 20-25 min walk if you are in the mood!

I recently had a bitter experience organizing an engagement function here that I find highly overrated. The entire area seems to be running on the legacy of its reputation, but in reality, it falls short in various aspects. Firstly, the banquet hall, which claims to have a seating capacity of 130 people, becomes excessively congested with just over 100 guests. The hall's capacity seems to be exaggerated, leading to discomfort for the attendees. Furthermore, the service and staff at this place leave much to be desired. The employees display a bossy attitude and disregard the needs and requests of the guests. Despite multiple reminders, they do things as they wish, showing a lack of consideration. I would like to address Mr. Kumaresan/Kumar directly and request the hotel management to dismiss him for his impolite behavior and failure to attend to guests properly. The food provided during the function was below average. The menu consisted of rice with sambar, rasam, curd, one chapati, a sweet dish, and a side dish with a few additional side items. Surprisingly, the quoted price per plate was an exorbitant 600 to 650 rupees. This high cost for a menu that is not even worth 100 rupees is hard to digest. Whoever approved this menu and set the price seems to be heartless. I advise against choosing this place if you are looking for reasonably priced food of good quality. There are plenty of other options available outside. It's important to note that there is a bar located right next to both of the halls in the hotel. This proximity increases the possibility of people mistakenly entering the wrong door, which is highly unsuitable for family-oriented and intimate events. Additionally, the in-house decorators at this place are solely focused on making money. They do not allow outside decorators, so engaging with them is a waste of time if you are looking to have your own preferred decorations and anything that's desired , do note the decorator will charge extra for sure. Overall, this place disappoints with its poor infrastructure, bad service, and subpar food. It seems to prioritize making money over providing quality service. I strongly advise against choosing this venue for any event and suggest exploring other options that offer better value and a more pleasant experience.

Today we went for Lunch at Maris, Veg Restaurant. We ordered two south indian veg meals for myself and for my daughter. Quality of food was below normal, never expected from this restaurant.. Rate Rs.250 x 2 = 500/- Not worth.. Please bring back your tasty food as it was 10 years before...

This place deserves a four-star rating solely for its vegetarian food. It's really that good(and I'm a hardcore non-vegetarian). I would have considered a full five-star rating if it weren't for the fact that I saw first-hand what many other reviewers experienced with regard to some of the waiters/staff members showing a grumpy/bad attitude. I'm not saying all of them are that way but some of them are ... and those "some" need a serious attitude adjustment. Or need to get fired and be replaced with well-mannered individuals.

Food has improved, not the attitude of the waiters. The waiters have to be constantly reminded for anything and everything. They deliberately behave as if they have not seen you. Specially they will force you to drink warm water how many ever times you say you want plain water. Good food bad service. Not possible to give 5 stars for food and 1 star for service. So over all rating because of the bad service is 1 star only

Lunch menu and taste is average. Highly priced for the quality offered. We had lunch- meals for 2 at 500+ taxes. However I was quite disappointed with the menu items in the meal and the taste was quite poor. Can do better crowd management. I had visited on a weekend.

We always have lunch here whenever we visit Chennai. Quality of food has improved compared to last time which is a year back. A balanced South Indian meals served on plantain leaf. Cons: The waiters have to be constantly reminded/called if you need anything which is kinda annoying as one tends to lose interest towards finishing the meal. Good food bad service.
