Overall, if you're looking for a true boutique hotel experience, consider elsewhere. But, this place is fine if you can get a good deal. Upon getting to our initial room, we were disappointed to see that the mini bar in the room was not complimentary, since we had seen so many google reviews about that, and we thought it was included. Then, we realized that the aircon in the room was broken, so we had to ask reception if they could help. Fortunately, they were very friendly about it and upgraded us to a larger (and cooler) room immediately. The next morning, I was awoken by someone taking a shower in another part of the hotel. Otherwise, the stay was fine. Not exactly the stay we were hoping for after spending $650, but the bed was comfy and the staff were friendly.

Beautiful hotel in a perfect location. Lots of cute quirky touches made it feel really special. Dog friendly was a huge plus and so nicely done. Negatives: parking was a full block away from the hotel. "Grab and go breakfast" was the worst hotel breakfast I have ever had. Looked like it was supplied by 7eleven.

Our room was spacious and super comfortable. Free mini bar was a welcome surprise along with a nice breakfast!! Chris at the front desk was so friendly and helpful with making our booking and giving us tips for getting around the city. Highly recommended

We spent 6 nights at Laneways. Our father was in hospital and the staff could not have been more compassionate and flexible as we didn't know how long our stay would be. The rooms were quiet which is rare in the CBD. Lovely touches with the sweets and refreshments in lobby. Adjoins a bar/restaurant next door where to food and service is great too. Will definitely stay again.

I can see what they are trying to do here. The hotel is small, boutique and quiet. I love the fact that they are doing interesting add-ons like a free mini-bar and a welcome goodie bag for the room. That is a cool addition that sets Ovolo Laneways apart. Unfortunately though, some of the execution is slightly off. I paid over $900 for two nights of accommodation here and I didn't get my room serviced. I even had the light on for the room to be serviced and it never happened. I eventually had to go to reception, where I got an apology and was told that they would refill the mini-bar (which is part of the daily room service), "but they aren't a good bed maker, so they can't make the bed". Also, the design of the bathroom, while quirky, makes it super difficult to do things like place a toiletries bag somewhere, or clean your teeth. For a normal sized human, you have to literally squash your head up against the mirror, so that you don't drop water and toothpaste mix all over the floor and down the front of the basin. The wifi for me was also a little spotty, with delays or lag from time to time (I needed up turning if off when trying to upload some files). Apart from that, Ovolo Laneways location is great, right on Little Bourke Street with lots of bars and restaurants within walking distance and across the road from Parliament train station. If you can get the rooms for $240-$340 a night, it is well worth the money.

Couldn't be happier. A great central place to stay. Close to amenities (food, shopping, transport). A friend and I booked a Terrace Suite for a staycation and took advantage of the space, balcony, and perks. The staff were lovely and so accommodating. The rooms comfy and clean. A great spot with competitive prices. Big thumbs up.

Really enjoyed this place the room was very big spacious, it was really pleasant to be offered a glass of wine on check-in they give free water and a lolly bar for free. Just some really nice little touches very impressed

Really happy we found this and gave it a shot. Great location, funky interiors and some nice touches that made it fun. Service was always friendly and genuine, the lolly bar was a great little welcome every time we returned from being out and about and having the restaurant/bar attached was an added bonus. Our room was really well appointed and very well insulated from the noise of little Bourke. My only complaint would be the bathroom as it had a miniscule amount of shelf space considering the massive size. We will be back for our next visit.

Stayed one night for work and would definitely come back. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The lolly bar and happy hour drinks are a nice touch and the service was friendly and efficient. Location was perfect for me - close to work, quiet but also close to great cafes and restaurants.

Traveling to Melbourne quite often the hotel was quite a nice discovery. Small and cute this place gives you pleasant feeling of relaxation and care. Stylish design, comfy bed, good bathroom, Apple TV and Alexa in the room. Last but not least - minibar in the room is free :)

The Hotel was an absolute delight to stay in. We were greeted by an all you can eat Lollie bar and friendly staff. Check in was quick and we headed up to our rooms and indulged in the FREE mini bar and chocolates in the room. The wifi connection was free and strong, and the beds and bathrooms were clean and a joy to stay in. The next morning I enjoyed the free breakfast available in the lobby with yoghurt, banana bread, fresh fruit and many more options. I would highly recommend as it is a short walk from everything in the city and has excellent service.

Just finished a 3 night stay. Is ideally situated in terms of location. Quirky and certainly a different hotel vibe - customer service is top notch. We loved the candy bar (as did the kids)! Our only real gripes? - Air conditioning in finicky resulting in temperature variations and stuffiness….really needs fresh air option - need at least a toaster in larger 2 bed rooms - some good ol fashioned bar soap would be a wonderful addition

Great location for China Town, the theatres etc. the room we booked was small but perfectly fine. Except the aircon didn’t work. They tried to fix it but eventually we had to move rooms, and gave us a bottle of wine to say sorry, which was a nice touch. Loved the lolly bar, free drink on arrival etc. parking is a block over, cut down the alley. Bathroom is teeny and not much room to put stuff. But great for a short stay.

The hotel location is the best, close to China town where you can enjoy lunch and dinner since there're a lot of good restaurants around. The free tram station is also near the hotel with a few minutes walk. We stayed herer for 4 nights in a stylish 2 bed rooms suite and the room is big and clean . My kids love it very much and we will definitely come back here again next time.

This is seriously my favourite hotel in all of Australia. The freebies, the above-and-beyond service (thank you Bridget!), the location… Honestly. The. Best. And now that they’ve raised the bar this high, it’s hard to stay anywhere else….

Great! Thanks for the detailed My recent stay at Laneways by Ovolo in Melbourne with my dog, Lena, was an all-around pleasing experience. The hotel's prime location on Little Bourke Street provided easy access to a variety of food and drink venues, making it an excellent choice for food enthusiasts like me. Right from the start, the staff showed their keenness to make our stay comfortable. They guided me adeptly through the labyrinth of Melbourne's one-way roads and road closures over the phone, which was much appreciated. At check-in and check-out, Lena was greeted with a level of enthusiasm that made her feel right at home. The check-in and check-out process was smooth and efficient, saving us valuable time. The dog amenities provided by the hotel were nothing short of impressive. From the soft dog bed and cute fruit toys to the water and food bowls with a drop mat, everything was thoughtfully designed for our furry friends. Lena especially enjoyed the generous treat kit. However, it's worth noting that dog poo bags were missing from the offerings. The staff was quick to improvise, but it's something the hotel could consider for future guests. The rooms, albeit slightly aging, were nice and comfortable. A minor hiccup was the bathroom, which seemed to lack adequate ventilation and had a faint damp smell, indicating a possible need for drain cleaning. Despite this, the hotel's cleanliness, particularly with regards to being pet-friendly, was impressive. Laneways by Ovolo really lives up to the Ovolo standard, offering a free and well-stocked minibar in the room, and an inviting candy bar in the foyer, with the mandarin candy emerging as a personal favorite. The hotel provided a quiet and peaceful haven amidst the busy streets of Melbourne. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend Laneways by Ovolo to other pet owners seeking comfortable accommodation in the heart of Melbourne. Despite minor room for improvement, the staff's efforts to provide a memorable stay for both human and pet guests truly set this hotel apart.

I remember going here, many years ago when it was Mrs Parmas. Popped in on a Friday night looking for a less noisy place. A nice welcome by friendly professional staff. Good Beer choice and food offering.

Absolutely adored our stay here. We stayed in the terrace suits with and were impressed from the minute we walked through the doors. Staff were thoughtful, kind and helpful, nothing was a problem. The details throughout the hotel make it really fun and our kids thought it was the best thing ever. We will definitely be back and couldn't recommend it more!

Great friendly staff, great service and great little room. My only gripe would be their card surcharge. Other than that a great experience for a last minute stay in Melbourne

Wonderful from start to finish. Megan was super helpful and friendly. She epitomised great service and made our stay so much fun with brilliant suggestions of things to do, places to eat at and bars to try. The AH restaurant and bar that is attached to the hotel was also a highlight. Ren seamlessly blended professional service and great banter from behind the bar while we partook in the Eucalyptus Smoked Margarita and Wattle Seed Negroni cocktails.

Blind window view without warning, even if you don’t have the cheapest room… Any pics of that in the website. Sink in the bathroom is so small that I can’t wash my face… Breakfast really not good. Very nice staff however Too expensive for what it is… Won’t come here again

Great base for exploring Melbourne because of comfort, value and location. Little Bourke Street has great cafes and restaurants just a minute or two from the hotel, and the hotel bar, Amphlett, is a great place for drinks and bites. We had a Downtown Studio Suite for two nights in February. Loved the extra space by having a separate lounge room. I appreciated the lighting in the room - a few lamps as well as the overhead lights, and the terrific set up for refreshments - fridge, kettle, etc. The bed was firm but comfortable and there's a fair bit of street noise but nothing that ear plugs couldn't keep out. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Absolutely love Ovolo! Doesnt really offer room service or a great breakfast but honestly I am nit-picking. The rooms are TERRIFIC, the service is really great and the location is amazing. Highly recommend. Brilliant value for money. LIke really really good.

Had such a good time. It's boutique and a lil different but that's what makes it so good. The venue has character, the good character, the hotel and rooms are somewhere you want to spend time around. The rooms are quite spacious and well kitted out and the staff made such an effort when my daughter and I went for Harry Potter, it was a feature of the weekend!

Highly recommend this hotel: Staff are so friendly and helpful. They put so much effort in so guests feel at home - loved ‘happy hour’ to meet other guests. Rooms are wonderful size with great light. Dog friendly - and they really were happy to have her, with treats, toys and a bed ready.

We just spent a night in the 2 bedroom with our family, celebrating our daughter's birthday. Wow - could not fault our stay - from the fantastic staff, who were so attentive and so approachable. The hotel - clean, comfortable and the beds oh, so inviting. Position is 5 star to explore our beautiful city. The freebies are the icing on the cake, snacks, free mini bar, happy hour, breaky and the lollies and hot drinks in the foyer makes for a glorious stay, which we highly recommend. Definitely be spreading the word and will again book this superb hotel.

Ovolo Laneways is a great boutique hotel nestled in Melbourne's backstreets. The quirky inside and very friendly staff made my stay very enjoyable. You can expect generous freebies with your stay, including a happy hour in the foyer. I was impressed with the rooms facilities and the bathroom set the standard.

Blown away by Ovolo Laneways!!! Bridget, Flynn & Ben welcomed & cared for us with genuine warmth, friendliness & super thoughtful personal touches. The room was immaculate, beautifully decorated & filled with generous extras- free mini bar, happy hour, snacks, Alexa, Apple TV, comfy robes/slippers- the list goes on! Can’t wait to go back!

We recently stayed at Ovolo Laneways and I couldn't write enough words about why it's great. First, the obvious bits, the rooms are lovely, spacious and well finished, beds are comfortable and the mini bar is all included which is a nice touch. But, the real reason I am writing this review is because of how incredible the staff are. I sadly only caught one of their names (Chris) but literally every person (Chris especially) that we interacted with was beyond amazing. We were traveling as a family (my wife, myself, and our two young kids) and after staying a night at Ovolo were meant to fly out back home to LA. When we got to the airport there was a mixup with visas and our 5yr old wasn't allowed to board, which meant I had to stay here with her while we sorted that, and my wife and 1yr old had to board to head home. Needless to say, it was a VERY stressful night. My 5yr old and I got back in a taxi, came back to Ovolo, and stayed another night, the staff went over and above to make sure we were looked after hearing our story, and when I inquired about booking another night because we had nowhere to stay, they were fully booked—but rather than that be the end of the story, they literally called around other nearby hotels and found us one who had space and organized the whole thing for us, moved our luggage and even put together a goodie bag of snacks for us, and a packet of coloring in and crayons for my kiddo. I cannot put into words how grateful I was for the hospitality that they showed far over and above what would be expected as part of their job and it truly made a very stressful moment just that little bit easier to deal with. Next time we're back in Melbourne we ABSOLUTELY will be staying there, and will forever recommend it to friends. Thank you so much, you made

Ovolo Laneways is a fun, funky and fresh hotel staffed by a friendly and attentive team. The beds were super comfortable with the high quality linen. The penthouse was gorgeous with a sparkling clean freshly-filled spa. The candy bar was fabulous. We will most definitely return. It’s our new favourite Melbourne hotel.

I stayed with Ovolo many months after my previous stay was cut short due to covid. Through all those months they kept my credit safe, renewed it when I couldn't get back any sooner and then happily honoured the credit when I was able to stay. Such honesty and integrity! And the stay was wonderful. The room was a great size, very comfy bed and tremendous service. Great location at the Spring St end of the city. I would highly recommend this hotel.

We decided to stay for a weekend in the city as a little mini-holiday for our anniversary, and originally chose Ovolo Laneways because it looked cute and was in a great location. I am so glad we decided to stay at this property, it was honestly amazing. The staff are unbelievably friendly and helpful, and even helped us extend our stay after we were out extra late one evening and didn't want to leave in the morning! The inclusions are really generous - the minibar is *actually free*, no catches, no hidden costs, no nothing! Happy hour is great too. All in all, this is an amazing property. The room rates are really affordable and you get so much value for your money. I would definitely stay here again, and again, and again! :)

The whole experience at Ovolo was amazing. Even before our stay, the staff were extremely and helpful at replying to our queries. All the food and drink inclusions were extremely generous too. However, breakfast was a bit light on and would've been nice to see some pastries. oh well, we just had to have a double breakfast in the beautiful city. Will be staying here forever more xx

What a delight. Well designed rooms maximising space, so close to theatres and restaurants and with a staff passionate in making your stay as pleasant and enjoyable as possible. Loved the sweets and coffee always close at hand with free snacks in the room and even a wine tasting to start the evening off. We shall return as soon as occasion permits to reacquaint ourselves with all that Ovolo Laneways has to offer. Many thanks to all the team.

A well organised hotel located just near the light rail and railway station. It’s connected to the popular zone of Chinatown. The service was incredibly nice and the staff was friendly. There’s even a minibar for free desserts and snacks. I personally liked the upgraded room (OMG) because the facilities were stunning. Definitely recommend staying in this hotel.

Friendly and responsive service, easy going and down to earth manner. Especially conveniently located for those coming into town to watch 'Harry Potter: The Cursed Child'. Only downsides are the tiny sinks in the bathrooms, and no gym options at time of review, and the room swipe cards constantly demagnetising. Parking validation also didn't work for us at their partner parking station which meant we were held up trying to come and go from the garage.

  • 5/5 Renee P. 1 year ago on Google
Amazing. The staff are the most wonderful people I've ever met. Everyone was so friendly and it really felt like I was chatting with friends. I will always come back to Ovolo. Best hotel in Melbourne hands down

A beautiful choice for overnight stays in the CBD. Great location within walking distance of Chinatown and Melbourne Central. Free breakfast offered was simple but a nice touch, free drinks at happy hour was a nice treat too! Said our stay was for a 21st and we received a free bottle of wine! Great service

Another great hotel by Ovolo. They always go above & beyond to ensure you have a great stay. Excellent rooms, lots of cool artwork on the walls, great mini bar, the restaurant was being renovated when we were here so didn't try to food but would be keen to when it's open. Thanks Ovolo!

  • 4/5 Amanda 1 year ago on Google
Had a great 3 night stay here. Staff were so friendly and accommodating with free snacks and mini bar. An issue however was that our room had no windows to open, causing our room to feel stuffy at all times.

  • 5/5 X W. 1 year ago on Google
The team at Ovolo try their best at making you feel at home despite ongoing renovations in the hotel. We were there for the Cursed Child play next door and the staff gave us a great tip for the intermission ;) the additional perks made up for the few shortcomings namely brought up by the ongoing renovation. Hope to stay again when the renovations are finished and the restaurant is fully open! :)
