One of the largest book stores in the city. Staff were attentive and courteous. Everything was organised well and good pricing too. I was here looking for some books written in French and unfortunately they don’t have any foreign language books. Wish they have a small session which showcases international collection.

Large range of wonderful books and writing pads, all in a lovely store with its own tea room, very nice indeed.

This is my favourite book store. They have such a huge collection and I always leave with something new. Staff are lovely and you can grab a coffee while you're there.

Always love coming back to this Dymocks, whenever I have a new book to get. The experience is always really nice and the staff are super friendly and helpful. Most recent purchase this week and a book I’m really loving already is, The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down by Haemin Sunim

Dymocks is a book store; and this Dymocks in particular shows it in every form possible. The store is so much bigger than you’d think and contains every type of book imaginable, from crime-fiction to manga, travel to craft, language to YA, and history to queer stories there is bound to be an area to your liking. The books are cheap but somewhat to a lower quality though this is arguably made-up in the vastness of the available selection. It’s a fun place to spend a good amount of time looking around, and I would give yourself a good amount of time as you can get carried away!

I like it overall. The staff are very friendly and helpful. A good mix of different topics. I'm a horror book fan and there is a horror section here (unlike many other bookstores). Though I find it small compared to the other sections in the store, especially in comparison to sci fi, for example. The old Borders stores had bigger ones. Also too much Stephen King and not enough of other great authors. I get they want to stock mainstream stuff, but there is a real option to create a niche market. Overall it's a nice store to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. A fair few seats around the store to sit and flick through the books. Haven't tried the cafe there, but it's nice that it has one.

I love this bookstore! It’s huge, with selections of books categorised in sections (including mangas), gifts, cards, and diaries. It’s my new favourite place now that I found out there’s even a cafe in here 😊

Amazing book store. Wide selection of books as well as gifts and stationery. The icing on the cake is handwritten book recommendations by the staffs, making book selection easier and intriguing!

Great bookshop in the middle of town. It's in the basement of the building. Big with a wide selection of books. Also has stationary and gift section. I could have spent hours on this bookshop.

This place is massive and amazing! The staff are very knowledgeable about their books and seem passionate. Very good selection of books here to keep the medium alive :)

Excellent bookstore! Great location, fast checkout, very friendly and helpful information staff- she literally walked me over to the bookshelf to help me find my book and when she couldn’t find it, went into the back stockroom to locate a fresh copy. If you’re Christmas or souvenir shopping, there’s a wonderful range of gift ideas and a charity gift wrapping desk right before the escalators for a few gold coins :)

Fantastic range of books. Was able to find books that are out of stock with the majority of other book stores. Staff were very helpful.

The old vintage elevator is scary and beautiful at the same time. Staff are so helpful and the whole store, every corner and turn is mobility aid friendly. Fabulous range. Definately my favourite Dymocks.

Good selection of books and cards and wrap nice too but poor customer service experience. Asked lady at bottom of escalator where business section was and was given confusing directions to back of store and she did not think to walk me over. Lady seemed pretty over it like she didn't even want to be there, no staff in business area either and lines at counters. Hard to access staff. Very unhelpful.

Great selection, friendly staff, and there's a lift that makes it wheelchair accessible, though some of the aisles were a bit tight for my 57mm chair I could get down all of them so long as no-one else was in the aisle too

I love big book (stores) and I can not lie ! This store has a bit of everything I could get lost for days. Best for ordering different covers of books that you can't get in Australia, the staff are super helpful. Plus, there's a cafe inside where you can park your partner or friend perfect to give you more time.

Such a beautiful book store, my bookworm self did not want to leave. Also, there’s a bargain section with books that are only $9.99, copped a few good ones from there!

Good range, good service, dearer for junior novels books than Kmart/target/Big W. The pride section is right near the kids section which isn't ideal for parents not wanting to answer a bunch of questions. Good range of games.

I've been coming to this magical bookstore for years and it's wonderful. Friendly staff, great customer service and a wide range if books for all ages and every kind of literature enthusiast. As an author myself, I often get that biting bug for a good book and Dymocks in Collins Street is probably my favourite place to drop in. Have a quiet coffee and enjoy being surrounded by a world of infinite knowledge.

Dymocks is a nice book shop. I visited the Collins st branch in Melbourne CBD. You will find a great variety of books there. If you are a book lover then it's worth visiting. The staff there was super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

Best bookstore in Melbourne. Wide selection of books and friendly staff are always present. The travel selection is very extensive and lots of option in Crime fiction and all the mainstream genres. Great location and always enjoy venturing there and browsing. They can also kindly assist you in ordering books to be picked up at the store. Very glad bookstores are this quality are still around.

This place came out of my dreams 🤩 I loooooove books, and getting lost in a huge bookshop, just perusing through blurbs and covers is one of my favourite things. Apart from books, you can find small presents, board games and jigsaw puzzles, grab a coffee and just enjoy yourself!

100% my favourite bookstore. The atmosphere and the wide selection of books(including mangas!) that's available is amazing! There're big amount of gifts that I personally find it weird, but it's not a bad thing. Just weird. If you're in need of good quality diaries or searching for a good book, I'd recommend come here ;)

Love the courteous service at Dymocks - the staff have helped me pick out great box sets for presents. I also like the ease with which one is able to spend hours browsing. I've always found good bargains in the bargain area, the only untried area is the cafe which I hope to correct in the near future.

I love history and this store despite being regularly having overpriced hardbacks usually has a fair price on paperback non fiction history books. European history is extremely diverse here which is great. Noticed the Asian history section has become larger which is great. This specific location is one of my favourite book stores.

Always come here when I am in the city. I always have a good time just brought some amazing new books for my family and myself. Friendly staff and community they have easy to navigate store layout and a great selection of books for the whole family. I give it a five out of five stars

Great place, you can buy a book and go read it at the coffee shop .

Dont order online! This retailer is utterly useless, so far it has taken 2 and a half weeks for them to ship a book, that is in stock, 50km from their store. Go anywhere else! shame on me for thinking supporting an aussie retailer was a good idea. In my business when i need to send something, i send it next day, and its 50km within 1 to 2 days. For a big retailer they are joke and i will not be using their 'service' (if you could call it that) ever again.

So many books for everyone!! Busy place! Very nice people. Only problem was we couldn't find a bathroom. We were there 2-3 hrs.

Bought around 7 books for Christmas gifts, 2 of them in the end November (early Christmas shopping). Family asked me to exchange them as they had already read them. I was only able to return to the shop today. The attendant wasn’t helpful at all and the manager was even worse. Won’t be returning to this shop.

As always, found my requisite weekly book. A greatly diverse range of authors, subjects, gifts and pleasant staff. Such fond memories of Dino and staff when the store was at Collins Place.

  • 3/5 Ian I. 2 years ago on Google
Such a hit and miss with the staff. They are either super friendly or just don't want to be there and can't be bothered serving. I get it, it's a book store, it's not the most exciting place to work.

I absolutely love this store. It's not just a book store but a place of wonderous enjoyment. Of course there are books, and plenty of them, all beautifully arranged in areas of content. But there is so much more, there are beautiful cards, gifts (for others or yourself) and gorgeous papers and writing sets. With such beautiful paper you will absolutely be wanting to send a personal letter in the post instead of a dry email. The staff are fabulous, they know their books and are all passionate readers and very friendly and approachable. This is, by far, my favourite place to come to in Melbourne.
