Prisoners
of
luxury:
that
was
how
we
held
ourselves
captive
for
three
nights.
Azerai
Can
Tho
is
pure,
simple
luxury
with
sleek,
modern,
and
immaculate
design
in
every
meter
of
the
vast
complex.
From
the
moment
you
arrive,
the
boat
ride
at
the
Pavilion
to
the
hotel
swiftly
takes
you
to
the
idyllic
setting
of
the
small
islet
that
Azerai
occupied,
which
seems
like
a
universe
away,
and
yet
only
five-minutes,
which
meant
that
you
could
easily,
if
you
choose,
shuttle
back
and
forth
from
the
islet
to
the
mainland
for
whatever
you
might
want.
But
why?
While
we
were
told
the
boat
ride
was
complementary
on
an
hourly
basis,
we
actually
chose
to
hold
ourselves
hostage
at
the
hotel
the
entire
72
hours
after
we
checked
in,
thinking
for
a
few
seconds
daily
that
we
might
go
to
the
mainland
for
food
and
what
not,
but
could
not
convince
ourselves
to
leave
the
luxury
of
Azerai.
While
there,
we
immensely
enjoyed
daily
as
a
matter
of
scheduled
leisure
the
gym,
pool,
tennis
court
and
regular
bike
rides
around
the
islet.
We
ate
every
meal
at
the
one
restaurant
that
was
opened
(the
second
restaurant
was
only
opened
during
the
weekend,
which
we
were
not
able
to
try).
The
breakfasts
were
delightful:
buffet
consumption,
but
in
an
ala-carte
format,
which
is
a
much
better
way
to
do
it
in
a
luxury
hotels
since
no
food
is
wasted
and
you
are
ensured
fresh
food
with
each
entrée.
The
food
always
arrived
swiftly
and
fresh;
the
fruit
juices
and
coffee
were
especially
superb.
We
never
had
lunch
because
breakfast
was
so
plentiful
that
we
never
felt
hungry
until
dinner
(even
after
daily
workouts
and
tennis
matches).
While
we
agree
with
some
reviewers
that
the
food
(at
dinner)
at
the
restaurant
was
somewhat
varied
in
terms
of
quality,
the
impeccable
service
and
presentation
more
than
made
up
for
any
shortcomings.
We
believe
the
price
points
of
the
restaurant
were
fair,
and
in
fact,
much
cheaper
than
at
comparable
luxury
hotels
(think
Bali,
Maldives,
or
New
York
City).
While
we
had
one
unpleasant
incident
with
a
staff
member,
that
episode
was
gracefully
handled
by
the
charming
GM,
Gary
Tyson,
who
obviously
manages
a
great
ship
with
an
overall
remarkable
staff.
I
encourage
Azerai
to
upgrade
the
gym
with
better
equipment
(squat
machines
and
bench
presses,
please);
and
finally,
there
was
no
mechanism
to
show
additional
gratitude
to
the
superb
staff
in
terms
of
additional
gratuity
for
services
rendered
–
there
is
an
automatic
service
charge,
but
often
we
felt
a
staff
member
was
exceptional
enough
that
we
wanted
to
provide
more
gratuity,
and
yet
there
is
no
space
on
invoices
for
that
–
we
never
once
carried
cash
or
wallets
around
so
it
was
not
possible
to
offer
that;
maybe
the
hotel
can
add
that
option
on
invoices
at
dinner,
high
tea,
etc.
This
last
point
is,
of
course,
my
way
of
saying
we
had
an
exceptional
time
and
felt
like
we
did
not
have
the
opportunity
to
express
sufficient
gratitude
to
the
staff.
Thanks
so
much
for
a
memorable
experience.
