Oh my god, I think this is the best food I have ever eaten in my life. This restaurant was recommended by the owner of the Airbnb I stayed at, and it blew my mind. First of all, this restaurant has a fire grill in the middle of the room so it stays nice and warm, perfect place to get out of the cold rain! My friend and I ordered off the daily special menu the two times we went, which was trout and mushroom risotto (€28), wild duck and roasted vegetables (€28), partridge and mushrooms (€28), and apple crepes with creme and ice cream (can't remember the cost but it was delicious). Both times we were surprised to get a very small appetizer that came with the meals, a salmon lox the first time, and pumpkin soup the second time. The pumpkin soup tasted like coming back to a home I forgot I had and was so good I wanted to cry. The first meal I got, the wild duck, was so tender and cooked to perfection that I told the server (who may be the owner) it was the best food I ever had and I stand by that. The second time I came and had the patridge and I told my friend that I loved the food so much that I wanted to get married in this restaurant as the ultimate sign of love. The food is pricy, sure, but not anymore expensive than the tourist trap restaurants near the city square and Schaar is 5000x better and worth every cent and more. My only regret is not eating here EVERY DAY. A WORD TO THE WISE: This bistro has somewhat strange hours, so check the hours on this page beforehand! Also if you get a pasta dish, the plain pasta is served separate from the sauce/meat/etc, which was unusual for us tourists, but the food was still great.

Ein absoluter Geheimtipp! Hier findet man auch noch dann Platz, wenn viele andere gute Restaurants ausgebucht sind! Tolle Speisekarte, leckeres Essen, sehr heimeliges Ambiente, superfreundliche Bedienung, die auch auf Deutsch weiterhilft. Karte auch in französisch und englisch. Sehr nett gelegen am Kanal. Die Nordseefischsuppe ist als Vorspeise sehr empfehlenswert. Auch das T-Bone Steak und die Entenbrust - absolut lecker!

This is a wonderfully unpretentious welcoming and warm place. Family run. Food off the grill. No tourists there when we visited. Wonderful steak and wine and calm ambience. Great service.

Not cheap, but good food. For us, the prawns in cream sauce and the desert, creme brulé were really good while the main course was good but not spectacular. There wasn't music playing in the restaurant and everybody seems to be whispering to eachother. :)

Großartiges Essen, aufmerksamer und freundlicher Service und ein sehr gemütliches Ambiente. Es gibt klassische Gerichte immer mit einer kleinen Raffinesse. Alles frisch und hausgemacht. Die Bedienung spricht flämisch, deutsch, Englisch, Französisch und Spanisch und ist sehr aufmerksam. Bei jedem Besuch in Brügge ein absolutes Muss!

Stopped here for a snack and were not disappointed. They have one of my favourite belgium beers, Bourgogne De Flandres, and we had two starters. Friendly staff, good service.

Ordered ribeye, cote de boeuf, king prawns, and red house wine. All of them were delicious. Especially the mushroom sauce that served with the meat was great. The ambiance was also good.

Wow, wow wow. Unscheinbares kleines Restaurant am Kanal mit einen Kern aus Gold <3 Dieses sehr kleine Restaurant hat es in sich, hier bekommst du unglaublich zartes gegrilltes Fleisch (hierbei kannst du sogar zuschauen da sich der Koch mit seinem Grill im Restaurant befindet) , das Personal ist super freundlich und das Essen ist gigantisch. Preis Leistung hier mehr als geben. Wir kommen bei unserm nächsten Besuch im Brügge wieder👍 Hier spricht man sogar Deutsch.

Absolutely amazing. We happened to park near the restaurant and had delicious main courses and puddings. Prawnsx2, lamb and duck in raspberry. I had the dark and blonde bourgogne de flandres, both delicious. The creme brullee, was the creamiest, tastiest one I've ever had. Highly Highly recommended!!

I had wanted to visit this restaurant for two years and this October I finally managed to get in. I am happy to inform you it met all my expectations. Bistro De Schaar is a beautiful small restaurant focused on grilled meats located right next to Coupure canal, which is a little less touristy part of the Brugge's city center. I had a fantastic venison steak with seasonal vegetables as a side dish and the meal was just delicious. The service was awesome as well and we even got a complimentary appetizer on the house. I also enjoyed the little back story of the restaurant's name (de schaar=scissors). What can I say, nothing like a family-run place. Bedankt!

Anheimeldes Ambiente, man fühlt sich willkommen, sehr gutes Menü mit leckeren Weinen die dazu passen. Unbedingt probieren: die Vorspeise mit den gebratenen Sardinen. Preis-Leistung passt.

Delicious food, cozy place, not far from center but away from tourists crowds, we were lucky they accepted us without reservation for lunch, dogs allowed.

An authentic, hidden gem. Food was outstanding. Genuinely, the best meal I have enjoyed out in years! A short, 5 minute walk outside of the city centre, but well worth it. The food surpasses the pretentiousness of Michelin.

Every restaurant get a bad review, here it is, the worst part of the meal was the waiting time so we spent that time talking, no phones for us thanks. This place is a hidden gem and as far as I can tell, 2 people do it all. Charming. It was full. We had Asparagus and fish soup to start follows by duck and monk fish. A little pricey by our usual standards but we are on holiday. Bruges is gorgeous in the sunshine so if you come, visit Bistro De Schaar

I tend not to leave reviews because most placers are just okay. Not this place. This place was quite good! Probably the best steak I've had at a restaurant, and the service was excellent too. If ever I'm in Brugge again, I'll be eating here.
