An interesting piece of Albanian history and one of several abandoned places that are worth exploring. It is easy to enter and many people do, but watch your step when you walk around, as the place is in disrepair. You can climb some stairs to see the upper floors or go to the basement, but again, be careful where you step. Also, it seems that some people (probably homeless) are staying there at night, so you'll encounter some trash and waste.

The former pyramid now serves as a university, creating a pleasant atmosphere. Enjoy picturesque sunsets while people engage in both fitness and leisure activities around the area.

Don’t expect a pristine, shiny looking sight. The building is in a derelict state and you can’t go inside - you can only have a look through the broken parts of windows. However, this place is definitely worth visiting when you’re in Tirana. It will definitely give you an insight into the communist part of Albanian history.

Recently renovated building which was reopened in mid-2023 which offers a 360 degree view of the Tirana skyline from 8 storeys high. Free to enter but is a bit of a hike up. There are six benches on the top level where locals and tourists congregate, including seniors and children. There is a round glass panel that looks into the inside of the structure. There are pastel colored cube shaped buildings at various levels of the structure.

I didn’t go inside, but it’s nice to go up to the top for a view. If you take the straight up stairs - there’s 119! I went early in the morning, no one else there.

The Pyramid of Tirana is a really cool attraction that you shouldn't miss when you visit the city! It's a huge, pyramid-shaped building in the center of town that was built a long time ago, during a time when the country was very different. Inside, you can explore different floors full of exhibits that show what Albania was like in the past. It's super interesting to learn about the country's history and see all the cool stuff on display. The Pyramid is also a really unique and impressive building. It's so big and imposing, it really stands out in the city. Even if you don't know anything about its history, you'll be in awe of its size and design. At the same time, the Pyramid is also kind of controversial because of its past associations with the former dictatorship. Some people want it taken down, while others want it preserved in some way. Either way, it's a really important part of Tirana's history and identity. Overall, if you're interested in history, architecture or just something really cool to see, definitely go check out the Pyramid of Tirana when you visit the city!

Not necessarily the prettiest building in the city; it is however a point of recognition. It used to be a former museum, now it's a bit of a climb up the stairs but rewarding you with a wonderful view of the city. Surrounded by very colorful cube buildings. Would recommend going up for the view (it's free), the area is nice and calm - some kids were playing and it seemed like a place for youth to chill and get together. Other than the view it's not too special but definitely worth a visit!

Pyramid of Tirana, Tirana, Albania Not quite as impressive as the Great Pyramid of Giza, this pyramid in Albania’s capital is definitely a little strange. It was built as a monument to Enver Hoxha, a Stalinist dictator who ruled Albania for 40 years and sealed off the country from the rest of the world until his death in 1985. Built in 1988, the structure closed down when communism collapsed in 1990. It was reopened later as a conference center, theater, nightclub, television station, and other unexpected purposes. Abandoned and closed to the public for many years, the Pyramid of Tirana was planned to be demolished in 2011 but was later saved after a public outcry. There are plans in the works to turn this unusual structure into an education center.

It’s in the heart of the city and a sight to be seen. Unfortunately it’s closed off with the use of a fence but there is a small opening. I asked police officers if it was okay if I run up the pyramid and they said “K, no problem”!. So that’s exactly what I did! FYI - it’s easiest to run down :)

MVRDV's design will see this brutalist monument in the heart of Albania’s capital city, once the showpiece of Communist dictator Enver Hoxha, dramatically renovated. The concrete structure will be reused, the atrium and its surroundings greened and opened, and a small village of cafes, studios, workshops, and classrooms – where Albanian youth will learn various technology subjects for free – will permeate the site, both inside and outside the pyramid itself. The Pyramid is thus expected to become a new hub for Tirana's cultural life and a carrier for the new generation.

I visited today (April 2019) and they are in the process of blocking it off. Fence encompasses the entire front side, working around each side. The back is still open but it appears they plan to circle the whole building. Very quirky architecture and sad to see it in such disrepair. Hopefully someone is getting ready to do an update!

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! I thought it wouldn't be a big deal if I just looked at the pictures This place is definitely worth visiting. You can go up the stairs quickly, and you can get a 360-degree view of the city from a high place It's not just a pyramid structure. There are various "devices" everywhere. You can take very nice pictures on a nice day.

This is what all travel agencies think you want to see the most in Tirana, Albania... a defunct concrete communist monster. Seriously, this was the only place in Tirana where we encountered organised groups of tourists. There's, however, much more to see in this cosmopolitan city.

(Translated by Google) The "Pyramid of Tirana" is a painful memory for Albanians and an unwanted monument, after the dead communist and his 40-year rule of Edward Hodży. Three years after the tyrant's death, his daughter (architect) and her husband designed the pyramid - a museum for the former leader of communist Albania. The original pyramid at the time of opening was the most expensive building ever built in Albania. Enver Hodża created the most repressive communist system that Europe had the opportunity to learn. During his 40 years of rule in Albania, he led to complete isolation and dramatic impoverishment of the country as well as he ruthlessly persecuted and murdered his own countrymen. In 1991 after the fall of communism in Albania, the Enver Hodży Museum ceased to exist. Currently, the building has been empty for years and has gained a new name "Pyramid of Tirana". W trakcie swych 40 - letnich rządów w Albanii, doprowadził do kompletnej izolacji i dramatycznego zubożenia kraju a także bezlitośnie prześladował i mordował własnych rodaków. W 1991r. po upadku komunizmu w Albanii, Muzeum Envera Hodży przestało istnieć. Obecnie od lat obiekt stoi pusty i zyskał nową nazwę "Piramida Tirany".

The pyramid is the building with the most interesting architecture in Tirana. It is always part of brochures from designers. The decision to be the center of Information Technology ... is welcomed by everyone. If we look to the future, in a building from the past, the only way this works well is this idea. The interior must be unique...I hope so. Work in progress...

Lovely place to visit, though by any means not nearly as impressive as the pyramids in Egypt, does offer a stunning example of the abstract architecture so prevalent in Tirana following the collapse of communism in Albania.the reconstruction was recently finished so now is the perfect time to visit and grab a photo at the top(that is if you can make it up the stairs!) which offers a nice view over Tirana and the newly constructed Air Albania stadium which is home to the national team of Albania. And I’d also recommend going at night if you want to see the lights illuminating the capital but it is worth visiting regardless of the time.

A must see spot in Tirana! Huge building in the middle of a big park that takes up a whole block, it’s an impressive construction and hard to miss from afar. It’s very nicely lighten up during the sunset and night and the surroundings are also well maintained along with some interesting new constructions. It has 200 steps but the view is worth it, it’s a bit of a shame that some of the new buildings are blocking some of it though. It provides a nice 360 view, and it’s quite interesting to see both sides of the city so clearly. The pyramid has also a long history, as it has been there for a long time and it’s nice to see that it has been repurposed to serve the city and the country.

The Pyramid of Tirana is a fascinating architectural relic that holds a unique place in Albania's history. Originally constructed as a museum to honor the country's communist leader, Enver Hoxha, the building's design is a striking departure from traditional architecture. Its bold, pyramid-like shape and stark concrete facade make it an eye-catching landmark in the heart of Tirana. However, the Pyramid's history is as complex as its design. Over the years, it has transitioned from a museum to a conference center, nightclub, and even a canvas for street artists. Its transformation reflects the changing political and cultural landscape of Albania. Visiting the Pyramid offers a glimpse into Albania's past and its ongoing evolution. While its exterior may be weathered and graffiti-covered, it remains a symbol of resilience and adaptability. Exploring its interior, you'll find remnants of its past lives, including the original mosaic artwork and architectural details. While the Pyramid of Tirana may not be a traditional tourist attraction, it's a must-visit for those interested in history, architecture, and the ever-changing nature of urban spaces. It's a testament to the power of architecture to reflect a nation's story, even when that story takes unexpected twists and turns.

The Pyramid of Tirana may be an ugly building, but it serves a social purpose. Many of Tirana's youth use it as a meeting ground. Scaling its slippery side has become a challenge for some. It will be repurposed at one point or another in the future. At the back of the building, there is a space that is used as a studio for TV programs, such as the Albanian version of The Voice.

What would be the Skanderbeg Square without it's Skanderbeg Statue, next to it a classic carousel. Which one I really like to see there. The square is a huge attraction, where you can just chill, find lovers hand in hand, concerts, other fairing activities as well as scaters love to visit it. I like it to chill here after a long day on one of those stairs and watch them lovely people of Tirana.

An amazing beautiful town square, especially after it’s been reconstructed from the original. It maintains its uniquely Albanian heritage while making you feel like your in the heart of Europe. Be sure to check out the museum for artifacts that are equal to almost anything else you’d find in southern Europe, other than the major ones of course!

It's closed. Fenced off, and the reason it gets 3 stars instead of one or two is because the policeman working there was professional and helpful in explaining to me that it would be closed one or two years. On the other hand, the parking attendant or Security guard at the radio station was unhelpful, rude, and just plain useless. I should have continued pass him to the building for a picture. Not that I would.

Seeing this Pyramide was realy amazing, it is an interesting part of the communistic history of the country. It was build from 1986 till 1988 as a memoroal-museem for Enver Hoxha, after 1990 it was used as a convention center, but now these days... it is sadly only a ruin left... :-(

  • 5/5 Soghomon 3 years ago on Google
Got to give it 5 stars for weirdness Also known as Hoxa’s Pyramid and designated by his daughter, the structure is said to be originally destined as a mausoleum for the late dictator. Instead, the not so esthetically concrete pyramid seems to be used as informal housing.

  • 5/5 Damon L. 5 years ago on Google
Apparently they still let people climb up to top where the barbed razor wire is. It's a neat old bunker, abandoned downtown with spray paint and broken glass and trash. They say they are planning on fixing it up some day to become a museum or community center or computer education facility.

The pyramid has been significantly improved in 2023, with new walkways to go to the top of the building, and lovely views across the city. Well worth visiting - it's free and is usually surrounded by young people listening to music or attending events. I went at night and then again in daylight.
