The oldest mosque in the city and the only one that survived the communist regime. As a visitor you can enter, see the interior and take pictures (I asked first) without any problems. You just have to take off your shoes and women have to cover their heads (a scarf is for rent for free).

This is one of very few mosques in Albania to resist the communist regime without being demolished. It has an ottoman architecture but it is quite unique with its still life paintings, something rarely seen in Islamic architecture. It's a first-category monument of culture. It is also one of the most beloved mosques for muslims in Tirana, since it is located right in the city center, it is one of the oldest and it is a symbol of survival of faith.

This is a 500 year old mosque 🕌 fully restored to its original glory and is still used as a place of worship & one can visit it outside the prayer time until evening 4 pm. It’s located on the Skanderberg square & not to be missed. The murals and the floral artwork on the outside & inside of the mosque is amazing.

Construction was started in 1791 or 1794 by Molla Bey and it was finished in 1819 or 1821 by his son Haxhi Ethem Bey, grand-grandson of Sulejman Pasha. At the time it was built it was part of complex buildings that compose the historical center of Tirana. In front of mosque was the old Bazaar, in east the Sulejman Pasha Mosque, which was built on 1614 and destroyed during World War II, and in the north-west the Karapici mosque. During the totalitarianism of the Socialist People's Republic of Albania, the mosque was closed. On January 18, 1991, despite opposition from communist authorities, 10,000 people entered carrying flags. This was at the onset of the fall of communism in Albania. The event was a milestone in the rebirth of religious freedom in Albania. The Mosque today, constitutes of an architectural complex together with the Clock Tower of Tirana. Tours of the mosque are given daily, though not during prayer service. Visitors must take their shoes off before entering the inner room.

Very beautiful mosque, completed in the early-19th century - one of the city’s top landmarks. Unusual walls, as they have a scenery with forests and waterfalls, which aren’t normally permitted in Islamic art. Everyone needs to take off their shoes and comply with the dress code. Pictures without flash are allowed to be taken inside. Free Entry.

The Et'hem Bej Mosque stands as a symbol of Albania's religious and cultural heritage. What makes it truly remarkable is its remarkable history, surviving years of communist rule and serving as a beacon of religious freedom since the early 1990s. The interior, adorned with intricate frescoes, is a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of its builders. Visitors seeking both architectural beauty and a glimpse into Albania's past will find the Et'hem Bej Mosque a captivating and peaceful destination worth exploring.

(Translated by Google) Edhem Bey Mosque is located in the square in the center of Tirana and next to the clock tower. The mosque, which belongs to the Ottoman period, has a single dome and a square plan. There are porticoes at the entrance of the mosque. The interior surface of the mosque and porticoes is decorated with hand-drawn embroidery. Edhem Bey Mosque was closed to worship and turned into a museum in 1966 as a result of the Chinese-like communist practice initiated by Enver Hodja in Albania. The mosque was reopened for worship in the 1990s after the communist regime in Albania disappeared and democracy was passed.

A very beautiful and very well preserved Ottoman mosque. Takes the visitor back to that period. A museum for non-muslims and full functioning mosque for Muslims where prayer is carried out with Jammat 5 times a day. Peaceful, clean and filled with friendly amazing people. We prayed Fajr, Zuhar and Isha there. Ladies can do abolution if they are there 30-50 minutes before the prayer time and have a separate section for praying. For men the abolution are is just down in the basement and they can pray in inside hall or outside hall.

This mosque, built by Ottoman Turks in the 1790s, contains lovely frescoes that look uniquely Albanian. Many of its panels consist of feathery representations of items like minaret tops, purses or pouches. Others depict buildings, some looking like small cities; some like resorts with blowing palm trees. Other frescoes show nature scenes: forests, cataracts and watercourses. I’ve never seen frescoes like these in other mosques. Entrance requires no headscarf, but does require covered shoulders and legs. Respect the ceremonies being conducted in this very busy mosque.

The Hajji Et’hem Bey Mosque is a mosque in Tirana, Albania. It was closed under communist rule but reopened as a house of worship in 1991. The mosque is composed of a prayer hall, a portico that surrounds its north and the minaret. On the north side is the entrance to the prayer hall, which is a squared plan and is constructed in a unique volume. It is covered with dome and the dome is semi-spherical and has no windows. Ethem Bey Mosque is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history and architecture. The mosque is located near the center of the city and is very clean and hygienic. It has toilets and a water place for ablution, as well as towels for drying hands and face. The air conditioning makes it comfortable even during hot weather. The mosque is always well-maintained by its caretakers. I highly recommend visiting Ethem Bey Mosque.

A unique mosque situated in the very heart of Tirana. The mosque, the Clock Tower, National Museum and National Theatre of Opera and Ballet from the surrounds to the famous Skanderbeg Square. Et’hem Bey Mosque was founded at the end of 18th century by Mulla Bey, with the shrine finished by his son Haxhi Et’hem Bey in the first quarter of the following century. The mosque was one of the few to be spared the destruction during which churches, mosques, tekkes, monasteries and other religious institutions were either closed or pulled down, or converted into warehouses, gymnasiums or workshops by the end of 1967. On 18thJanuary, 1991, despite opposition from the communist authorities, 10,000 people entered carrying flags. This was at the onset of the fall of communism in Albania. The event was a milestone in the rebirth of religious freedom in the country. Visitors can see the wonderful architecture of the mosque and its exquisite decorations of wall and ceiling paintings from oriental traditions. The frescoes of the mosque depict trees, waterfalls and bridges, still life paintings that are a rarity in Islamic art.

(Translated by Google) This is a historic mosque, open to the public. Its construction was completed in 1823, and the interior was decorated with rich frescoes and stucco. It was the only active mosque during the time of Enver Hodży and the communist era, but only for foreigners. Albanians were atheists at the time. Currently, the Central Mosque is one of the most important religious monuments in Albania. The mosque is located in the heart of Tirana in the vicinity of nice, green parks as well as the Opera and Ballet Theater, the National Library and the National Historical Museum. In Albania, Islam has been the dominant religion since 1991 and the other religions are various Christian denominations. (Original) Jest to meczet zabytkowy, udostępniony do zwiedzania.

The Et'hem Bey Mosque is an 18th-century mosque located in the center of Tirana. The Mosque most noted feature being its 35 meter tall spire which contains a spiral staircase to the top. The tower was for many decades the tallest building in Albania’s capital, and it is considered by many to be the most beautiful mosque in the country too. Closed under communist rule, the mosque reopened as a house of worship in 1991, without permission from the authorities.

Tirana is a bustling city, indeed. And its epicenter rests in and around Skanderbeg Square. In this 40,000 m2 area, you'll immediately notice the massive monument for Gjergji Kastrioti Skënderbeu, the Albanian national hero. The square also houses the National Opera, the Palace of Culture, the National Library, a Childrens' Theatre, a fully-functioning Old-Style Carousel (á la Sacre Coeur in Paris, France!), and the Ethem Bey Mosque. There are even rental bikes on the square for your ease of transportation. Plenty to see, explore and do on your visit.

Our greatest historical square that changed so many times his shape among years. But at least it's my best and most favourite square among all squares. -There during sunny days, activities take places like fairs, concerts during celebrations days, meetings, exhibition events. -There's no place to deal with criminal works. -Under it, you can find a great "parking a lot" for only: 200L/-3 hours, 500L/3-8 hours, 800L/8-12 hours 500L/12-24 hours (day).

(Translated by Google) Southern European temperament and Arab mess - this is how you can assess the impressions of your stay in Albania. This applies to both the atmosphere and the residents (especially drivers). The number of old Mercedes cars and gas stations can surprise you. However, this country has potential. If circumstances permit, I will come back in a few years to see how it develops and changes. If they control road safety, take control of littering rubbish, ensure constant electricity supply (power generators which are an emergency power supply for shops on the main street of Tirana will disappear), Albania can be an interesting proposition for a vacation.

(Translated by Google) Tirana (Alb. Tiranë or Tirana) - the capital and largest city of Albania, located on 3 rivers: Lanë, Tiranë and Tërkuzë. It is the largest industrial and cultural center of the country. Fast facts There are 7 colleges in the city, the most important of which is the University of Tirana, founded in 1957. The main monument of the city is the Etehem Bey Mosque from the 18th century. There are also the National Theater and the Opera and Ballet Theater. 17 km to the northwest is the airport Rinas im. Mother Teresa. The city has Tirana train station. History The year 1614 is considered to be the founding date of Tirana. It was then that Suleiman Pasha Bargjini erected a number of public buildings. In the 17th century, the city became a commercial center, but never really gained much economic importance. Tirana became the capital of Albania on February 8, 1920 by a decision of the provisional government established at the congress in Lushnjë. The city had 17,000 inhabitants at that time. Its development began from that moment. On April 8, 1939, Tirana, like the rest of the country, was occupied by Italy. The occupation (German from 1943) lasted until November 17, 1944, when the city was liberated after a fierce struggle between the communist-backed inhabitants of the city and the Nazi forces. Shortly thereafter, a communist government was formed in Tirana, headed by Enver Hoxha. During his reign, many monumental buildings in the style of the so-called Hague gigantism. In 1957, the first university in Albania was established in the city. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, a wave of violent demonstrations swept through the city, which eventually led to the collapse of the communist regime in 1991. (Original) Tirana (alb.

Beautiful monument but the skyline is being botched by all scyscrapers that are not even finished. Its very well known and its definitely worth the visit, although to be fair, it's almost impossible to miss it as it stands in the main square, the middle of the city.

The Hajji Et'hem Bey Mosque (Albanian: Xhamia e Haxhi Et'hem Beut) is a mosque in Tirana, Albania which is a cultural monument. The mosque is adorned with beautiful frescoes outside and in the portico depicting trees, waterfalls and bridges (typically walls are white and this is an exception). Tourists can go inside but need to take off shoes and comply with the dress code. Pictures without flash are allowed to be taken inside. The mosque construction was started in late 18th century and finished in early 19th century. It survived the years of communism and functions as a mosque today. It takes 10-15 minutes to complete the tour (i.e., go inside to appreciate the history and beauty of the building) and is highly recommended. Entry is free. Friendly staff inside could provide additional guidance /support.

A stunning mosque overlooking skanderbeu square that is over 500 years old, it has been, however, fully restored and the walls are splashed with paintings that really bring it to life. They are welcoming to non Muslims- outside of prayer time of course- to come inside but even the outside itself is spectacular and is hard to miss if you visit the square.

Beautiful mosque, pay attention to the detailed painting. Free to visit between visiting hours (they close between 12 and 14 I believe). If you don't have clothes to cover up no worries, you can borrow some there.

Have opportunity to perform my Maghreb & Isya' prayer here met with brothers and sisters of the same faith. Beautiful interior that pass the test of time. The exterior will remind you the Ottoman era. Insta worthy place. The location is at the side of famous Skanderberg Square. As it stand, the mosque is a testament of religious freedom in the modern and developing Albania.
