Mosaic of Tirana is a unique piece of art not found in the coastline where usualy civilitation was established in the first centuries of our era. Thought to be part of a Roman house and clasified from the arceologist that discovered the site as the third century AC, the mosaic still resist and it is well conserved and fenced to be protected as a part of arceological and cultural heritage of Tirana city as a capital of Albania. Since 73, the site is proclamed as culture monument and included in the list of arceological sites of Albania.

Small villa floor protected with a metal roof in suburban Tirana. Better mosaics in the national museum, not worth going out of your way to see.

The mosaic is amazing and very beautiful but it's really bad conserved. When I was there they were building something made by concrete on the historical wall. For me this is a damage to all the humanity because we should preserve our history and not build on it. I was so disappointed this was one of most beauty things in Tirana and they don't valorate it. They should treat it like a treasure amd for me that I'm from Rome this broke my heart.

The ancient Tirana Mosaic it is believed to have been part of a 3rd century Roman house, referred to by local archeologists as the 'Villa rustica'. Later, in the 5th and 6th centuries, a Paleo-Christian Basilica was built around this site. It was declared a cultural monument of the first category in June 1973. The ruins of this Paleo-Christian Basilica were discovered in 1972. In 2002, some other objects were found around the ruins of the house, and today they form the Archaeological Complex of the Mosaic of Tirana.

(Translated by Google) I visited it with my family. We come from Ravenna for this was one of the main points of interest of our holiday. Considering the historical and cultural value it is really a pity to find such a precarious state of conservation. For mosaics, a covering like the existing one that protects in a minimal part from the climate is not enough but they should be further protected by glass plates so as to avoid wear and color changes of the same. However beautiful! Comunque bello!

According to the authors, we have to do with a village center of the first centuries AD since the beginning of the century. III was replaced by a rural cottage (rustica). The mosaic room with an abbey was its main ambiance. The authors also think that in the nineteenth century. V-VI the place of the villa occupied a paleochristian basilica. The excavated part of the monument was surrounded and protected by the Institute of Monuments of Culture (IMK). During the years 2003-2004, the works of the systemisation of various roads and installations of the block "Partizani" discovered near the siege of the monument other parts of the complex. The most important here were the tubs of fermentation of grape must, but also other parts of the walls in two different points.

The Mosaic of Tirana is located in an ancient archaeological site, which used to be a Roman villa with mosaic, which dates back in the 1st century AD, perhaps an agricultural roman complex (rustica).

(Translated by Google) The mosaic in itself represents not only a cultural and artistic value but is important because it testifies to the existence of social life already in antiquity in the Tirana area. The mosaic is part of a rustic Roman villa of the second century after Christo. However until now only this villa has been found and there are no other excavations to highlight if it was an insula (urban area). Historically Tirana (which means Ti-r-ana = të rri anash-- stand on the sides of the river) as an urban center is documented at the beginning of the 17th century, the year 1610 recognizes the construction of the first mosque, pazzar, hamam, the baker and other typical Muslim constructions made by Sulejman Pasha Bargjini an Albanian noble part of the Ottoman administration.

One star not for the fact that the site is not accessible, as correctly indicated, but rather for the arrangement of the works barriers which totally prevent one from seeing, at least from afar, the mosaic dotted in the space between the original protective barrier and the construction barrier works, with the typical green tarp, there is a space of at least 4 meters, occupied by machines, even though no one is working. It is right to carry out maintenance on these treasures, but it could be done in a more intelligent way, allowing, at least from afar, to be able to glimpse it.

(Translated by Google) The Mosaic of Tirana is located on the road "Naim Frashëri", which is the oldest monument in Tirana. The researchers think that we are dealing with a Roman villa dating back to the 3rd century AD, where the main floor is decorated with mosaics. Later, the facility is adapted and used as a Paleochristian church, beginning in the middle of the fourth century and onwards. Mosaics mainly contain geometric motifs, but also typical motifs of early Christianity.
