The museum is renewed and in a really good condition. Prime Minister himself visited this place when it finished the restauration. This museum has inside alot of history pieces that date thousands of years ago. Every new discovery that is made around the city diggings is stored here. Visit it, totally worth it. Highly recommended.

Very nice museum, I can really recommend it to everyone. Entry costs 300 lek. There are parking spaces right in front of the door. There is a parking lot next to it that you shouldn't stand in, be careful!

The Durrës Archaeological Museum in Durrës, Albania, established in 1951, is the largest archaeological museum in the country. The museum is located near the beach and north of the museum are the 6th-century Byzantinewalls, constructed after the Visigoth invasion of 481. The 1997 rebellion in Albania saw the museum seriously damaged and looted. Archaeological Museum of Durrës Muzeu Arkeologjik i Durrësit Collection The bulk of the museum consists of 3204 artifacts found in the nearby ancient site of Dyrrhachium and includes an extensive collection from the Ancient Greek, Hellenisticand Roman periods. Items of major note include Roman funeral steles and stone sarcophagi and a collection of miniature busts of Venus, testament to the time when Durrës was a centre of worship of the goddess.

Good museum. Quite cheap, so you must visit it. Performs good antique archaeological goods (pods, tools, jewelery), some of which are renovated, the other part is new. Unfortunately, second and third floor of this beautiful museum were closed and I am unable to tell you about them. The overall look of museum is good, it is worth to visit it.

It's beautifully arranged and the entrance fee is only 300 Lek (around 3 euro), unfortunately at the time I have visited, the upper floors were closed for maintenance and new articles prepared for the next exposition.

A lot of materials are used, such as clay or even marble. I recommend it to anyone who comes there by accident or intentionally. Thank you for your attention. Goodbye. (Original) Świetne muzeum. Meticulously curated museum with a downloadable video and text guide in many languages. Many of the artifacts shown are intact - an indication of how careful the excavations were executed. Only the ground floor has so far been filled, so it is worthwhile coming back to when all three floors will be.

One of the most visited museums in the country, the Archaeological Museum in the ancient coastal city of Durrës is a comprehensive introduction to Albania’s rich history throughout the millennia. The largest museum in the country, the Durrës Archaeological Museum holds some of the most treasured prehistoric and ancient objects in the history of Albania. It is situated by the seaside promenade, the museum offers a journey through the rich history of this very important city by the sea as well as the entire country. Currently is undergoing some renovation.

Nice museum in the middle of Durres dedicated to the rich past of Durres and Albania. Unfortunately when we were there only the ground floor was open. We were greeted by a very enthousiastic employee who made sure to point us in the right direction and provided us with extra information. I like museums, and i liked this one. If history is your thing, Albania has lots to offer, and you should visit this one

Lots of antiquetes from Roman times and nicely laid out. Can get close to objects to see detail. No photos. Worth a vist if you have not experienced such items. Seems a thousand years can go bye and craftsmanship in a lot of materials has not improved.

Worth the price of admission. The majority of artifacts are from an ancient grave yard. A few are from ship wrecks off the coast. For 400Lek ($4) you can get up close and personal with these ancient finds. Some dating back as far as 700BC. This is not the British museum, but a nice display of local history.

  • 4/5 Nekil 4 years ago on Google
It is a wonderful museum with great staff and displays. All the displays are organized in a way that makes sense (chronological order). The museum could be visited without the help of a guide, but non the less the guides are there to help and they do a great job. The only problem is the lack of funds to expand the number of displays. With entire floors being empty one could only imagine what is possible is the future.

Nothing special. Only ground floor open still charged full price even tho this appeared to be less than half the public area. The air conditioning was the best part. Displays not bad but no extensive explanations of artifacts the general signage is overview general history. Pleasant, but again, nothing special. The building itself is a bit eccentric on the outside some sort of modernistic.
