Utthamar Kovil is the 3rd of the 108 divya desams of Lord Vishnu. The old name of this locality is Thirukkarambanur. This temple is one of the rarest Hindu temples in the world, where the Trinity Gods (trimurti) are worshipped along with their consorts in six separate shrines within the same temple premises. One of the legends describes that, due to the vainness of Lord Brahma, Lord Shiva got angry and plucked off the fifth head of Lord Brahma, who is five-faced. Because of this decapitation, Lord Shiva was subjected to a sin (Brahmahatthi Dhosham). The decapitated skull of Brahma stuck in the hand of Shiva as a bowl, which not only got off his hand, but also consumed all the things that are offered to Lord Shiva. In order to expiate this sin, Lord Shiva asked the help from Lord Vishnu, who in turn asked his consort, Goddess Mahalakshmi to assist in filling the bowl, in order to make this bowl break, because of over-consumption. Goddess Mahalakshmi, the reservoir of wealth, filled the bowl with wealth, which in some time, began to overflow. Unable to bear this, the bowl got shattered into pieces and Lord Shiva is acquitted from the sin. Since Lord Shiva was helpless with his bowl in his hand and roamed as a beggar, he is regarded here as Bikshaadaneswarar and Goddess Lakshmi, who filled excess of wealth in Shiva's bowl to stagger it into pieces, she is praised as Poornavalli. Another legend describes that, in order to test Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu transformed into a Bur-flower Tree (Kadamba Maram). Lord Brahma recognised that this tree is a transfiguration of Lord Vishnu, worshipped and made the formal rituals to this tree. A happy Lord Vishnu transformed into his original form and gave blessings to Lord Brahma. Lord Vishnu is worshipped here as Sri Purushotthama Perumal, who is in sayana kolam (reclining pose) facing east. His consort Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped here as Sri Poornavalli Thaayaar, who is facing in the east. There is also a separate shrine for Goddess Mahalakshmi as well, facing east. Lord Shiva is worshipped here as Bikshaadaneswarar facing west, with his consort Sri Soundara Parvathi Ambaal, who is facing south. Lord Brahma is worshipped along with his consort Sri Gnana Saraswathi Devi, both facing south. An interesting fact here to notice is, Saraswathi Devi, as seen in many of her other temples, is not carrying her usual attribute - the musical instrument Veena. Here, she carries palm leaves and japa mala. Apart from trimurti and their consorts, this temple is famous for viewing 7 gurus namely Deva guru (Guru Bhagavan), Asura guru (Sukhra Bhagavan), Gnana guru (Skandhan), Parabrahma guru (Brahma), Vishnu guru (Varadharraja Swamy), Sakthi guru (Soundara Parvati), Siva guru (Dakshinamurthy). this temple also houses Mahaganapathy and Sani Bhagavan, Murugar, Navagraha, Dasaratha Lingam, Kothanda Ramar with Sita and Lakshmanan, Venugopala Swamy eith Bama and Rukmani, Hanuman, Garudaazhwar. This temple is also a Saptha Guru sthalam. This temple is locally regarded as Bikshaandaar Kovil, and is open from 06:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 04:30 PM to 08:00 PM. It is located in the walking distance from Toll Gate, one of the important junction points in Trichy. It is on the Trichy-Salem main road, Manacchanallur Taluk. There is also a railway station located in this area, where only local trains are stopping.

Also known as Thirukkarambanoor and Bhikshandar Kovil, Uthamar Kovil is a village located in the outskirts of Trichy city. Constructed in the Dravidian style, the temple finds its place in the Divyaprabandham, the early medieval Tamil canon of the Alwar saints. It is one of the 108 Divya Desam (most sacred) temples dedicated to Vishnu. The main deity here is worshipped as Purushothaman and his consort Lakshmi as Poornavalli. This is a very unique temple where all the three major Gods of Hinduism like Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva are present with their consorts altogether. Once, when King Janaka was on a pilgrimage tour, he came here and conducted a pooja. When everyone was praying with closed eyes, a dog spoiled the sanctity of the pooja items. Since it was not a good sign, a worried Janaka prayed to the lord. He was directed by a sage coming that way to pray to the Kadamba tree there. On doing so, King Janaka was asked to do another pooja with new yagna items which were completed successfully. Janaka was very happy and wanted to know about the sage who guided him. The sage smiled and asked to worship the Kadamba tree again. In doing so, the Kadamba tree which was nothing but the form of Vedas. Another story explains that lord Brahma had a grief that he did not have a temple for himself though he too held a position as high as Vishnu and Shiva. For this sake, when lord Brahma was worshipping lord Vishnu, to check his devotion, lord Vishnu stood here as a Kadamba tree. Brahma personified Vishnu in the tree form and performed pujas to the tree. Brahma was granted this place to stay. The temple is very simple and does not have huge gopurams. The temple is more inclined spiritually. The temple opens at 6 AM allowing pilgrims till noon. Again opens at 4 PM till 8 PM.

At a distance of 0.5 km from Uthamarkoil Railway Station and 15 km from Trichy, Uthamar Temple also known as Purushottamar temple, Thirukkarambanoor or Bhikshandar Kovil, situated in Uthamarkoil village is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Shiva and Brahma. The temple is believed to have been built by the Medieval Cholas of the late 8th century AD, with later contributions from Vijayanagar kings and Madurai Nayaks. Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple is glorified in the Divya Prabandha, the early medieval Tamil canon of the Azhwar saints from the 6th-9th centuries AD. It is one of the 108 Divyadesam dedicated to Vishnu. According to a legend, Brahma became very arrogant because he was the creator. This made him feel superior to Shiva. Brahma once visited Kailasam to meet Shiva. Parvathi, the wife of Shiva got confused and performed pooja to Brahma instead of Shiva. Lord Shiva plucked off one head of Brahma to avoid the confusion between the two. This resulted in Shiva incurring a Brahmahathya dosha. The skull of Brahma stuck to the hands of Shiva which he could not separate despite all efforts. All the food offered to him was consumed by the skull and it never was filled. Holding the skull, Lord Shiva came down to earth as a Bikshadana with his skull bowl. When Shiva came to this place, Lord Vishnu asked Mother Mahalakshmi to offer food in the bowl. When Mahalakshmi did so, the bowl began to over flow and quenched the hunger of Lord Shiva, hence, she became to be praised as Pooranavalli, one who fulfills the requirements of the needy. The temple has images and separate shrines for Purushottamar, Bikshadanar, Brahma and their consorts Poornavalli, Soundaraya Parvathi and Saraswathi. This is one of the few temples, where the Hindu trinity are worshipped with their consorts in six separate shrines within the same temple complex. The image of Vishnu in the form of Purushottamar is in reclining posture facing the east. There are two shrines located to the south east, each housing the images of Poornavalli and Mahalakshmi. The shrine of Shiva in the form of Bhikshadanar is located in the sanctum behind Purushottamar temple. The granite images of the deities Ganesha, Murugan, Nandi and Navagraha are located in the hall leading to the sanctum. The shrines of Brahma and his consort Saraswati are located in the south west corner of the temple complex. The annual festival of the temple is celebrated during the Tamil month of Kartigai (November / December). Timings: 6 AM to 12.30 PM and 4 PM to 8.30 PM

One more of the beautiful places in TamilNadu that show the best sculpted temples. Located near Trichy, here all the three deities(Trimurthi) Lord Vishnu as Uththamar(worshipped as Purushottamar), Lord Shiva as Pichandavar(Bhikshandavar) and Brahma are together found in the same temple premises along with their consorts Lakshmi as Poornavalli thayar and Mahalakshmi,, Parvathi as Soundarya Parvathi, and Saraswati. Small size temple with extensively sculpted pillars, rooftops, various Gods and Goddesses. A sure place to visit near Trichy

This temple was recently renovated and is one of 108 divya desams. Another interesting part is that this temple houses the thrimoorty - Purushottamar(vishnu), Bhikshakeswarar(Shiva) and Brahmma idols. The temple is not huge by Tamil Nadus standard however has good access and parking facility beneath the overbridge adjacent to the temple.

One of the rare temple where all the three God's Siva, Vishnu and Bramha with their consort gave dharshan and blessings to devotees. This temple is just a furlong from No.1 Tollgate on the Salem high way very easily accessible. It is the third Thivya Desam. I am fortunate being a resident near the temple. Like all majority Perumal temples here also the main deity is in darkness with urchava deities in the front so that the visibility is very poor or hidden. I don't why it is like this? With normal crowd you can enjoy the divine experience.
