ஆங்கிலத்தில் எழுதுவதற்கு மன்னிக்கவும். Did a night trip from Chennai again for a family function. Wonderful cool drive. Wanted to visit this temple for quiet sometime, finally was able to visit the temple in this trip, the next day evening. Temple on a hill top, and construction wise somewhat confusing with the other normal temples (in terms of direction). Rajagopuram present but faces East, Lord faces West. Kodimaram present but it is placed south to north. Two ambals present, and strangely one ambal faces east and one ambal faces west. We had a very wonderful darshan, the priest was enough to come and show us aarathi and give us prasadham. When checking for the thevaram songs, came to know that this place is called Karkudi (கற்குடி). Thiruganasambandar, Appar Peruman and Sundaramurthy nayanar have sung pathigam on this lord. Thiruganasambandar in his pathigam (1.043) sings 2 Appar Peruman in his pathigam (6.060) sings 2 Sundaramurthy swamigal in his pathigam (7.027) sings so beautifully as follows.. 3 Near the kodimaram they have kept a veech aruva (knife) ... why? Temple inside definitely very neat and clean. On ground level there is a temple pond and it is awfully bad, though protected by walls etc, still it is so poorly maintained. After having darshan, i was came down to the rajagopuram area, and noticed three older ladies, entering the temple with flowers etc in their hand. They didn't know that the temple was on top of a hill and they need to climb the somewhat steep stairs. When they saw the stairs one of the lady simply said no and went back to the car. I felt very sad for her, because how she must have been eager to come and pray and now due to the height she couldn't do it. That point i told myself, i should climb all the hill temples that i wanted to see before i get old. Hope the lord grants me that wish. Parking is definitely an issue if u come by car.

DHINAM ORU KOVIL – 9 SRI.UJJEEWANATHASWAMY TEMPLE, UYYAKONDAN TIRUMALAI, TRICHY-620102. This is a hillock temple situated in Uyyakondan Tirumalai on the Vayalur Road, at about 6 kms from the heart of Trichy City. The temple is more than 1500 years old and the presiding deity is SRI.UJJEEWANATHAR and the female deity is SRI.ANJANAKSHI AMBAL. The historical name of the place is TIRUKARKUDI. The main Deity is also called KARKUDINATHAR. The temple has been praised and Lord Shiva has been sung by the great Saints, Tirugnanasambandhar, Tirunavukkarasar, and Sundaramoorthy Nayanar in their divine hymns. The temple has been mentioned as KARKUDI in their hymns. The temple did not have Kumbabishekam for many years. Very recently in 2010 it was renovated and Kumbabishekam was performed. The temple is now wearing a nice look. Markandeya worshipped Lord Shiva here when he was 16 year old. It’s a belief that one who worships Shiva here, will not have the fear of death. It is said when we sit and pray here for minimum 45 mins , we will get a solution and we will come back. I am a frequent visitor to this temple since it is near our house.

If you want to visit in the morning come after 7.30am. The murugan temple is based on the foot of the rock and on the top you have Lord Shiva, two Ambals, Lord Ganesha and many more deities. The poosari comes at 7.30am, it's amazing if you can see the temple with his guidance. It's a 2000 year old temple and you can see the inscription where it says how the ancestors of Raja Raja Chozha built the temple and the gifts given by them to the temple. The ambal statue which was first installed had a broken hand. They though about replacing her but then finally they decided not to disturb her and went ahead with installation of one more goddess statue. Both the goddess' are facing in opposite directions. Lord Shiva and Arjun were having an argument when Arjun's arrow hurt Lord Shiva. You can see the injuries on the Lingam. When they get the Lingam ready for Pooja they apply chandan on the places where the Lingam got hurt. This chandan is given to the devotees who come to see him from far and near by areas. It's believed to have healing powers. Behind the main shrine you can see arthanareeswar too. The climb up is totally covered. There are railings on the side to hold and climb. The stairs you see is what you need to climb. Come leisurely and ask the poosari to tell you about the temple. He has a whole of information and I think they have some books too.

Ujjeevanathar Temple is an Ancient temple constructed around 1400 years ago by Nandi Verma pallava. Constructed over a hilllock of 50 ft height also called karkudi meaning house constructed over a hill lock. The temple is owned and maintained by dharmapura adheenam. Name of the God: Ujjivanadhar Goddess: Anjanakshi and Balambikkai Stalavriksham: Vilvam Lord, Shiva had blessed markandeya and provided Chiranjeevi here at this temple while markandeya was chased by Yama Dharma, markandeya had surrendered before Lord Shiva. One can worship the fleet of Lord Shiva near Kodi maram in significance of Lord Shiva came out of the sanctum sanctorium to bless markandeya and to keep Yama out of the temple. The temple is situated within the city of Trichy on the vayalore road. The temple has a very strong and high fort-like compound. Lord Shiva is a swayambhu Murthy here. Lord Shiva was worshipped and priced and presented hymns by Thirugnanasambanthar, Thirunavukkarasar and Sundarar devarams. This temple has manuscripts (Kalvettu) written over the length and breadth of the temple from the entry point and everywhere. Please visit the temple and be Blessed by Lord Shiva Ujjeevanathar.
