Entrance
to
this
must
see
pavillion
is
through
'Vellai
Gopuram
although
one
can
enter
through
Ramanuja
sannidhi
or
from
'Manalveli
'side.
As
we
enter
through
Vellai
gopuram
to
our
left
is
the
Sesharayar
Mandapam
.It
is
located
in
the
fifth
enclosure
or
'Akalankan
Churru.
The
carved
pillars
are
astounding
and
one
has
to
take
time
off
to
explore
study
and
enjoy
this
spot.
It
has
40
leaping
animals
carved
on
to
the
piers
on
the
northern
end.
The
wild
horses
have
riders
on
their
backs
and
are
seen
trampling
tigers
with
their
hoofs.
We
have
on
its
pillars
Narasimha
deva
tearing
Hiranyakasipu.There
are
fighting
warriors,
reptiles,
scenes
from
Ramayana
like
Hanuman
sitting
on
his
coiled
up
tail,
carrying
Sanjeevi
hill,
entering
a
crocodile's
mouth
etc.
giving
Rama's
signet
ring
to
Seeta.
There
is
on
a
pillar
the
churning
of
the
ocean
of
milk,
Krishna's
vastrapaharanam,
kaaliya
narthanam,
Venugopala
with
a
cow
licking
His
Feet.
Besides
we
have
warriors,
Chinese
pilgrims,acrobatics
,
Ramba
and
Manmatha
etc.
The
designs
on
the
horse's
neck
is
itself
a
beautiful
piece
of
art.
This
place
cool
all
the
time.In
the
precincts
of
Sesharayar
mandapam
is
a
beautiful
sannidhi
for
Kodandarama
which
is
maintained
by
Srirangam
Thathachariar
family.
This
is
almost
a
complete
sannidhi
with
beautiful
divyamangala
vigrahams
of
Kodanda
Rama
parivaram
and
in
the
praakaram
are
sannidhis
for
acharyas,
The
pradakshina
path
accords
a
beautiful
view
and
before
conservation
was
done
there
used
to
be
photos
on
its
walls
and
even
a
palanquin.
This
sannidhi
accords
view
of
the
1000
pillared
mandapam.
After
crossing
this
mandapam
we
have
to
our
left
a
well
laid
out
shrine
for
Pillai
Lokachariar
who
at
a
ripe
old
age
directed
and
took
NamPerumal
to
a
safe
place
when
Srirangam
faced
the
Muslim
onslaught
and
reached
paramapadam
at
Jothishkudi
.During
Panguni
Uthiram
festival
or
Adi
Brahmotsavam
on
the
5th
day
morning
Namperumal
ascends
the
sesha
vahanam
during
morning
purappadu.
After
returning
to
the
temple
He
spends
the
day
at
Sesharayar
mandapam
and
leaves
in
Karpaga
vriksha
vahanam
from
here.
