One of the famous temple of tamilnadu. This place is named as Tenkasi. It means this is the KASI of South India. On ancient history time South Indian people's are getting worried cause can't go Kasi due to long distance. So the lord Shiva came in dream of the King PARAAKIRAMA PANDIAN and told him to build a temple for South Indian people. the main lord of this temple is Lord Shiva as "Kasi viswanathar" and Parvathi devi as Ulagammal. This temple is constructed nearly before 700 years by the King PARAAKIRAMA PANDIAN. The stone statues and sculptures are really too good.

The temple follows Shaivite tradition. The temple priests perform the pooja (rituals) during festivals and on a daily basis. The temple rituals are performed four times a day: Kalasanthi at 8:30 a.m., Uchikalam at 11:30 a.m., Sayarakshai at 5:30 p.m., and Aravanai Pooja between 8:00 - 9:00 p.m. There are weekly, monthly and fortnightly rituals performed in the temple. The temple is open from 6am - 12 pm and 4-9:00 pm on all days except during festival days when it is open the full day. There are various festivals celebrated in the temple. The Masi Magam festival during the Tamil month of Masi (February - march) is the most prominent festival celebrated in the temple. Tirukalyanam festival during Aipassi (October - November), Moola festival during Aavani (August - September), Navarathri, Karthikai festival, Thiruvathirai, Thaipusam, Sivarathri, Panguni Uthiram are the other festivals celebrated in the temple.

A beautiful temple with a huge gopuram. The original entrance is made of rocks. The newer gopuram is painted and you can see the intricate work on the entire structure. The entire gopuram is in shades of green. It's been a while since the kumba abishekam but the look is divine. This temple was built by the Pandian king who wanted to go to Kasi for his wedding. At that time there was a flood in river ganga and he was unable to go. When he prayed to Lord Siva asking that how will he be able to see him as the floods had stopped him. At that time the Lord Siva appeared to him and should him this spot which was a forest at that time. The king then came and built this temple here. It's in the same light as the Kasi temple and that is why it's called Tenkasi or Southern Kasi. Outside the Amman shrine you can see a depiction of the king bowing down to all those who are visiting the temple. It shows his humility and respect towards you as you have been chosen to come and see this beautiful and divine temple.

One of the finest Shive temples also know as Kashi Vishwanath of South located 6km from Courtalam city. Great place to visit with family and parents and do lord Shiva darshan. Temple opens at 6 am in the morning and closes by 12 noon and reopen for darshan by 4 pm at close by 8 pm. Temple also has other God goddess idol for worship. Lord Ganesha, lord Murugan and mata Parvati and other God idol in the temple. Temple provides a very quite atmosphere and gives you a strong divine feel Advised morning visit to avoid rush and hot temperature and for peaceful temple atmosphere Outside the temple there are many tea and snacks stalls serving hot tea and coffee along with South Indian snacks like idli, vada, dosa, pakora .

Very nice and devotional place. I didn't expect such a beautiful big temple in this small town. To my surprise, when you enter via the temple tower you will feel a nice wind breeze which can't be seen outside. Very old temple. Tenkasi means South Kasi ( one in North). A must visit place

This is a truly impressive temple to visit. Huge rajagopuram. Beautiful. Historic. A must visit if you visit the area.Large an ancient temple restores in the 1980s to 90s. This is a massive and ancient Shiva Temple of Kasi Viswanathar (Lord Shiva) also called Kachiappar, with consort Ulagamman (Parvathi). This temple is famous for Kasi Theertham, the breeze from Pothigai Malai (Western Ghats) at main entry, Sthala Viruksham Shenbagam (Michelia chambaka) and amazing sculptures and scriptures in temple walls. Well preserved and well maintained temple.

Wonderful to visit any ancient temple. Because the true worshipper gets the feeling of being near to the God through the vibrations passing in the devotees. The speciality of the temple is the two directions in which the wind from the Pothigai hills flows near the main tower( Raja gopuram). It is a mystery when you experience by standing there. Till the halfway of tower is crossed, the wind blows around you from all sides, but the moment you cross the tower, the same air pushes towards the sanctum Santorum as if making you to reach the god quicker. Though the land extents is small, the gopuram and the presiding deities besides the wind refresh us.

The Kashi Vishwanath temple is one of the most popular temples of Lord Shiva. It was through this light that Lord Shiva proclaimed His Supremacy over all the other Gods.

Amazing Lord Siva and Thayar temple. You feel the divine in here. And breezy wind you feel in the entrance (refer the details in poster photo) amazing experience. No where you find wind anywhere in the temple except the entrance even in this very Hot summer. Around temple you can find few restaurants, sweet shops etc. Especially Krishna halwa shop is famous for Halwa and snacks. You love it.

Kasi Viswanathar Temple in Tenkasi is located prime center of the town. The temple has a seven-tiered gopuram (temple tower) and has concentric granite walls that enshrines all the shrines in the temple. The temple has a pillared hall from the entrance leading to the flagstaff hall. The sanctum is located axial to the entrance facing east. The image of Kasi Viswanathar in the form of lingam is housed in the sanctum. The images of Vinayaka and Subramanya are located on either side of the hall leading to the sanctum. The town is surrounded by the Western Ghats in three sides and lies on the Tirunelveli to Kollam and Madurai to Kollam highways. The Chittar river flows through the city. Temple's entrance has its wonder of welcoming devotees with the breeze inside out and one can feel in person about the architecture has been handled in the ancient period. Recommended to worship.
