It's such a nice and best fall in all over the coutralam compared to all falls. Free entry. There is a paid toiled its cost ₹20. Dont buy anything in the stall they cheat all tourist people (if u ask about tea rate they tell ₹10 normal rate. But if u didn't ask the price means they ask ₹20 for tea). Vadai and buji rate ₹10. And they tell airraru falls about 5KM from Main falls. It's totally false. Its about 200M from the main falls. And one thing I want to say all must bring your own rented vehicle from ur home. There is no bus facility. And auto drivers ask huge amounts and cheat too much. For me they ask ₹350 from thenkasi junction to main falls It's about 4-5KM only. The area is totally contaminated by fecal matter and bad odour Due to the area people businesses mind the toilet if the govt provides a free restroom it will be more clean.

Courtallam Main Falls looks beautiful. The water there is special because it comes from hills with lots of trees and healing plants. Bathing under this water feels like a natural massage. I recommend going to the main falls instead of others for the best experience.

Marvelous👌. I enjoyed so much. Best for 1 day family outing. The current water flow are more enough to bath. There is token counter for your bag and your wallet, phone etc near water falls. For 30 mins, they charged 50 rupees. It's helps me a lot to take a bath in water falls without any tensions... after a bath you can also visit kuttraleswar temple near water falls...

Waterfalls with great view and refreshing bath. Kindly avoid visiting on holidays or peak season. It's crowded and dirty. Tourists have spoilt the cleanliness. It'll take more than a century for our people to learn and maintain cleanliness.

Fantastic experience on Wednesday 25th May 22, have good flow of water. After covid lockdown the major early rainfall and due to that we have water in May itself. But as school holidays so much crowded even in morning 8 am. If we go around 6 am crowd will be manageable as per local people. Local panchayat team is cleaning garbage.. but some more is needed. Visitors littering in the area.

At a distance of 7 km from Tenkasi, 160 km from Madurai, 62 km from Tirunelveli & 625 km from Chennai, Courtallam, or Kutralam is well known for Courtallam Falls which is one of the most famous waterfalls in Tamilnadu. Courtallam is famed as the 'Spa of South'. The main attraction of this summer resort is its waterfalls. The waters of Courtallam are believed to have medicinal qualities as it flows through forests of herbs. There are nine waterfalls at Courtallam where the River Chittar cascades over 92 meters at varying volumes. The Main falls or Peraruvi is the most popular and the biggest among the nine falls, at a distance of about 300 meters from Courtallam Bus Stand. Falling from a height of 60 m, it is located right inside Courtallam town. The flow of water is interrupted by the Pongumakadal rock and comes down gently making it a safe place to bath. One can find water not only during the season but also in off season (November to January). During the peak months, this place is frequented by travellers from around the country. The Kutralanathar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva is located near this falls. Road access is available close to the falls. Chitraruvi or Small falls is situated just above the Main falls. There are steps which provide easy access to the small falls. The size of the falls is comparatively small and the people who are scared of Peraruvi can literally enjoy Chitraruvi. Separate sections are present both for men and women to take bath. Chitraruvi leads to other waterfalls like Shenbagadevi falls and Thenaruvi. Shenbagadevi Falls or Chembakkadevi Falls is situated above Chitraruvi falls / Small falls, at about 3 kms from Main falls. Visitors have to trek through Chitraruvi forest for about 45-60 minutes to reach Shenbagadevi falls, where the water flows from a height of 40 feet. The falls is surrounded by Shenbaga trees. Entry to this falls is restricted during peak season due to flash floods and not safe for bathing. There is also a temple dedicated to Shenbagadevi Amman near the falls. During full moon days numerous pilgrims visit this temple. Vendors sell the fragrant Shenbaga flowers on the way to the temple, which is an offering here. Honey Falls or Thenaruvi is further 1 km from Shenbagadevi Falls and 4 kms from the Main falls. It cascades down from a height of 40 m between two large stones. This is the first cascade in the series of Courtallam Falls and considered the most pure. It is named after the beehives that form on the face of the rock during dry season. The picturesque horseshoe shaped waterfall which falls vertically from three sides to join into a small lake, is a wonderful sight. The waterfall is not easily accessible and is a risky trek. The trek will takes almost 30 minutes from Main falls and people are not allowed to bath in the falls as it is very dangerous. Entry to this falls is also restricted during peak season owing to flash floods. July to October is the best time.

It is a wonderful place to visit on your holidays.Good place to visit when it's raining or after heavy rain fall. Courtallam or Kutralam is a town situated at a height of 160 m (520 ft) above sea level in the foothills of the Western Ghats in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu, India ,you can take baths if there is no heavy rainfall in there other wise they won't allow anyone to take bath in there, gents and ladies has separate spots for enjoying the water falls. There is also old courtalam, tiger falls they also situated near to it but main falls is the the biggest falls in Courtallam, is about 60m high, there are small shops by that you can buy things such as dress food etc.Good resort and restaurants are there around waterfalls and you can eat and relax.Courtallam is famous for its waterfalls on the Western Ghats. With captivating panoramic vistas, the township is popularly renowned as 'Spa of South'. It has nine waterfalls in the region that add a charm to its exotic beauty. There are a total of nine falls namely, Peraruvi (Main Falls), Aintharuvi (Five Falls), Shenbaga Devi Aruvi, Thenaruvi (Honey Falls), Chitraruvi, Puli Aruvi (Tiger Falls), Pazhaya Aruvi (Old Falls), Puthu Aruvi (New Falls) and Pazhathotta Aruvi (Fruit Garden Falls), each of which is located within 1 km (0.62 mi) radius.Overall a moderate experience with lot of monkeys lol.

As long as there is no heavy rain and flood, you are allowed to take bath. But you should get moderate water to enjoy your bath. huge rush will be there but polices are controlling the crowed. Also they are not allowing the group to shout or make noise. Mostly people are taking bath for an hour while giving way to others. Soap, Shampoo and oil not allowed while taking bath. Don't wear jewelry. During season, the water flow will be good and you will feel, you are getting natural water massage. Good resort and restaurants are there around waterfalls and you can eat and relax. Don't miss to take bath in main falls

*Beautiful waterfall but poor infrastructure* We visited here in the off season but still there were a lot of visitors and no water in the falls. We can see old King's palace now ruined. We can see the incredible architecture of old Tamilnadu. The place is near to Tenkashi and is very bus during the day. There was very little water in the walls. The parking is very hard as there is no sufficient space for accommodating the visitors this place gets even in the off season. There are no infrastructure set up to cater to the needs of new tourists. Overall a moderate experience with lot of monkeys lol.

The falls are surrounded by lush green forests and provide a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The best time to visit Coutrallam waterfalls is during the monsoon season when the water flow is at its peak, and the surroundings are at their most vibrant. So visitors are recommended to explore on the months of June, July and August. Visitors can enjoy a refreshing dip in the cool, clear waters of the falls or take a relaxing bath in the natural rock pools. The falls offer a picturesque backdrop for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. One of the most notable features of the Coutrallam waterfalls is its healing properties. The water is believed to have medicinal properties and is said to cure various ailments. As a result, it attracts a large number of visitors seeking relief from various illnesses. Coutrallam waterfalls is a natural wonder that offers a refreshing break from the chaos of modern life. It is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a relaxing and rejuvenating escape into the natural world.

We went at the wrong time, no rains and so there was no water but we got a good look at the Sivan inscriptions on the rocks. Lots of monkeys so be very careful. It's best not to show your phone to them. They get curious seeing Bags and want to check if we have any food. Best to go empty handed.

Very crowded place. Must visit Tourist destination when you are near to Tenkasi. Its always better to visit after the rainy season. You can take shower in the the water falls but the place is always crowded. Another significant thing is the surroundings are very dirty littered with plastics and other wastes. Strict action to be taken and need better waste management control. Always be safe from monkeys as there are many monkeys around there. If you are going to new water falls there is beautiful temple you must visit. Good place to visit with your family. Paid parking available.

Excellent place to visit during July to September. Apart from the Unfortunately could not take bath in the falls due to covid issue.. Tourism is not developed much in terms of facilities.. U can visit the place and take some photos of tht.. If you are interested in a waterfalls in a natural setting, you will be disappointed. This is a temple falls. Thousand come here to take a holy dip. Can be messy and crowded. kutralam / courtallam is called south india's spa which is really meaningful. it is a place i want to visit at least once a year to immense myself in nature, to shower in the number of water falls with flowing herbal water and to walk around peacefully, eat here and there, forgetting the mechanical city life.

Water is available now! And the waterfalls is just so good.. It’s a bit crowded as it is the season now.. Do visit if you’re near Thirunalveli or Tenkasi is also nearby..I would suggest you to experience the main falls than any other falls.. do not try any other other falls that’s nearby because every other falls is just a water flow and a time waste..you can’t enjoy there! This main falls is a vibe and you’ve to experience this! It is also said that the water which flows through is a herbal water and people also drink it while it flows! The view and the water is mesmerising! It’s open 24 hours. So in case ur staying in courtallam.. you can come in the midnight or early morning to avoid crowd ! It will be empty and you can enjoy the whole waterfalls by yourself and your group! The more inside you go..the more suffocation of breathing will be there! The people who are having breathing problems, please don’t go to this and try some other falls! As it might create some suffocating in breathing in them.

One of the best experience in the falls. In the season time it is full you can visit after December and January. There would be less crowd and also I recommend that you go early morning and have a good experience Even though they are few merits they are few demerits i would say like around 5-7 years ago usage of soap, shampoo and oils are allowed now it's not allowed which is a good thing, but the government and also the tourists can maintain pretty well. Like in some of the places it was a bit dirty and more than government I think the tourists should take more responsibility in making sure to keep it clean and expose the disposals. And also I could see tourists brushing their teeth and splitting it in the falls. The government can make sure to ban brushing the teeths in the falls.

Main falls is the the biggest falls in Courtallam, is about 60m high. The flow of water is interrupted by the Pongumakadal, a 19m deep crater and comes down with greatly reduced impact, making a bath safe. You can feel fresh while making a bath, its like a spa natural medicated water. Municipality to arrange more team for cleaning and car parking.

Nestled in the scenic Western Ghats, Kutralam (குற்றாலம்) is a popular tourist destination of South Tamil Nadu. Courtallam or Kutralam is a town situated at a height of 160 m (520 ft) above sea level in the foothills of the Western Ghats in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu, India. The very name of the place has become synonymous with the thundering waterfalls that flow here. It is also home to centuries old ancient temples and other famous places of interest. Several seasonal and perennial rivers such as Thamirabarani, Manimuthar, Pachaiyar and Chittar originate in this lush region. It is the biggest waterfall in all of Kutralam and is about 60m in height. The flow of the water is interrupted by a natural crater, Pongumakadal which is 19m deep. This crater reduces the impact of the water flow and the speed of the water is reduced, thereby making it safe for bathing. It is advised to drink a few mouthfuls of the water while bathing as the water is believed to have medicinal properties. The water is said to heal all digestive and urinary problems if one bathes in this waterfall regularly for six months. It is a ritual to indulge in a soothing body massage with sesame oil after having a shower. The waterfall is so huge that nearly 200 to 300 people can bathe simultaneously. The water flows through rocks with sculptures of Shiva Lingams and other Gods, making a bath in the falls truly a divine experience. The title “Spa of South India” fits perfectly for Kutralam due to the numerous magnificent waterfalls and the healing and medicinal properties of the water that flows here. This has led to the rise of numerous health resorts in and around this quaint town. The falls do not flow throughout the year and are highly dependent on rainfall. They carry substantial amounts of water when the rivers feeding the falls receive heavy rain. The best time to visit Kutralam is from June to September, when the South West Monsoon kicks off in the nearby state of Kerala. People are not allowed to bathe when the falls are flooded due to heavy rainfall. Other Names of Kutralam over the Ages Kutralam is also known as “Ooty for the poor” due to its excellent climate that resembles the popular hill station Ooty throughout the year. This “Spa of South Tamil Nadu” is also known as Mukthiveli, Nannagaram, Pithur Kanda, Theerthapuram, Thirunagaram and Vasanthaperur. In Tamil the word, “Kuru aal (குறு ஆல்)” denotes a dwarf banyan tree. Since the forests of this area were full of such dwarf banyan trees, the region came to be known as Kutralam.

Courtallam is situated at the Western Ghats in Tenkasi District. The famous waterfalls on rocks and tiny droplets are sprinkled in the air. The water falls of Courtallam have medicinal value as they run through forest and herbs before their decent. The Courtallam is called as ‘Spa’ of South India.

Courtallam water falls are located near Thenkasi and about 100 km from Trivandrum. Visited the place on weekday. No entrance fee but have to pay for parking. Beautiful Main falls but will let you down due to overcrowding, lack of cleanliness, and lack of basic infrastructures for visitors. This place became victim to the hype of medicinal power of the falling water and “Swach Bharath” efforts didn't reach at this corner. Also visited Five falls which is less crowded but beware of very aggressive monkeys. Worth visiting.

It is very crowded even on a weekday midnight. This place definitely needs to be organised. Having time slots and ticketing could make the place better to be enjoyed by all people.

Peraruvi (main falls) the biggest falls in Courtallam, is about 60m high. The flow of water is interrupted by the Pongumakadal, a 19m deep crater and comes down with greatly reduced impact, making a bath safe. In Chitraruvi (small falls), the flow is thin. Here naturally separate places for men and women are there to bathe. At Shenbagadevi falls, the water flows through shenbaga (Michaelia champak) trees. There is also a temple there, dedicated to Shenbagadevi Amman. Shenbagadevi leads to Chitraruvi. About 3 km from this is Thenaruvi (honey falls), 40m high and cascading between two large stones. In places where there is no water, one sees big honeycombs. Thenaruvi is very dangerous and it is restricted for public. But it is very common to see people visiting and bathing in Thenaruvi. Aintharuvi (five falls) has five separate cascades of water form this waterfalls. From the orchard above flows Pazhathotta Aruvi, the ‘VIP falls’. Only VIP’s are allowed in Pazhathotta Aruvi.

Best of scenic nature, relaxing and calming place unless there are thousands of people all in the same place, which is most likely on weekends and public holidays, so plan before you go, only talking about the waterfalls is absolutely stunning.Towel in hand would help.
