The exact history of the temple could not be ascertained, but it is originally believed to have been built by the pandya king, Chandrakula Pandya, who ruled over the regions of Madurai. He built the central shrine and vimana of the temple. veerappa nayak(1609-23 AD), a ruler of madurai Nayak dynasty built the Yagasala, dwajasthamba (flag staff) and Nataraja hall. In modern times, the temple is maintained and administered by the Hindu Religious and Endowment Board of the tamilnadu

Pavanasar Temple (Suriyan Temple) Of the nine Nava Kailayam - 1, Papanasam is the first temple 🛕 attributed to Suryan the Sun ☀️ god. The turmeric water used for the Abhishekam to Ulagammai is consumed by women in small quantity for a happy wedding and child boon. Women also believe that this would increase the longevity of their Mangal sutra or Thirumangalyam. This temple is situated on the banks of Thamirabarani river.

This temple is in Papanasam next to Tirunelveli. This temple is famous for removing sins and for the pooja for our ancestors. There are separate rooms where they will perform this poojas and after which we should take bath in the river which runs besides this temple. It's usually crowded on Nomoon day and other days like prathoosam for lord shiva. Bathing in the river is little risky and the water current is quiet high and the Rocks in river are too slippery . So it's advised kids not to move out of the barricades provided in the river.

Shri Papanasaswamy temple is on the banks of Thamaraparani river in Papanasam. Had divine darshan on the first day of Panguni Tamil month. The Shiva Linga was decorated with silver cover with snake hood. Seperate sannidhi for Shri Loganayagi Amman. Regular crowd of devotees. There is a bathing ghat in front of the temple with cool river stream flowing. Belief is that Lord Shiva absolves all sins of devotees worshipping here. Renovation of Gopuram in progress.

Famous shiva temple located on the bank of Thamiraparani river. People gather here in large number to offer Tarpaṇa to their ancestors. Shiva is worshipped as Papanasanathar and his consort Parvathi as Ulagammai. Sage Uromasar floated several flowers in Tamiraparani River. One among those flowers reached this place. He then installed a Lingam at this place and offered prayer to get mukti. Offering prayer at this Shiva temple is equivalent to offering prayer to celestial body Surya(Sun).

A must visit. In the bank of Thamirabarani River, this temple of God Shiva and Maa Parvati gives you an experience of life time. Spiritual and divine. To reach, better to use Tirunelveli highway side as road from the village side is currently under repair. Upon reaching, devotees can take bath in the river and proceed to darshan. During afternoon Annadanam is available by obtaining coupon which is given in the entrance of the temple at No Cost. Instead of visiting this temple as visitor, my recommendation is to go as devotee and spend sometime inside the temple. A must visit. Om Namah Sivaya 🙏🏻😇

Such a superb place. A must visit spot for pilgrimage! Only real sad thing is people are throwing dresses and plastics in the river falls and its not cleaned properly. Apart from that everything is scintillating to visit! A must try place for tourist as well.

It is a best place for those believers of Hinduism to worship Shiva. An ancient temple with lots of spiritual energy added. The energy can be absorbed by those charged with devotion for Shiva with constant prayers on day to day basis from wherever he or she resides. Offer your devotion to Almighty and you shall be happy ever.
