It is in western ghat hills in tiger sanctuary .power production throughput the year. Picturesque hillock. Lots of people are living near this dam. Wonderful place to tour.

It is fabulous and amazing tourist place in Pabanasam. We can visit with family and spent lots of time here. Water is very clear and pure. You can feel the very calm and Breeze. We can bath in Paana Theertham waterfalls it's placed above the Karaiyar Dam. Boating is available here. But currently stopped the service. This is best spot for Nature Lovers. We can see lots of Wild animals here. If you lucky you can see the Tiger and Deer in Forrest area. Please go very slow in Reserved Forrest, because sometime Wild Animals crossing it's way. If you go fast that will harm the wild animals. Don't make Horn and Noise in Reserved Forrest area. Shopping is not possible here. Some tea shop only available to foodies. Parking is here, but cloak room and dress changing room facilities is not available here. Bike, Car, Van and Auto vehicle is best to travel here. Without own transport journey is very hard to reach this place and waste your time to waiting for public transport.

Very nice location inside Mundanthurai tiger reserve. No boating now, if it was there we could venture Banatheertham inside forest. But try a one kilometer walk by the side of the dam it's really worth!

I highly recommend a visit to Karayar Dam for anyone interested in engineering marvels or simply looking for a beautiful and peaceful environment. It's an excellent place to learn, appreciate nature, and spend quality time with family and friends.

Good place to see and walk. Thamiraparani EB office will be there on the way. It's photography restricted area. Boating has been temporarily stopped due to so court order.

It is located deep inside the Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger reserve Get entry in Papanasam forest check post and travel inside picturesque forest for 15km to reach the dam Once boating was allowed to visit Baanatheertham water falls Now it is stopped due to crocodile menace Vehicles has to be parked 500m before dam then we have to walk on the ascending road to reach dam Taste fish at the parking area Area is good less crowded

Karayar Dam is also know as the Upper Dam,which is situated across the hills in such a way that the water comes and stores in the Dam. This place intially had boating for the tourist,now it's not stopped. There are people settled near the dam who have settled there from many years,they have built a small wooden bridge to cross and have built homes.
