The place where the falls originates from is closed. If you try to go to the place you can find the message "not allowed" everywhere. But you can visit the nearby places. You have to trek for almost 1 km to reach the falls. The path is almost covered with plants. You have to climb down the rocks and walk through tea estates. Please wear good quality shoes. And don't go there when it's raining. You might slip and fall. The women workers who collect the tea leaves in the estate are so sweet. They even offered us to have lunch with them. We came back as the message not allowed was written everywhere.

*Must Read* before you visit this place.... Like all locals suggest, going to waterfalls is tough... Men can still go post 1 kilometre hike but for women and kids, it's very tricky and risky considering you have to hold prop roots and hop on trees if needed to go down and take a glance at the waterfall... The Waterfalls are definitely worth the effort and we have a splendid view when we go down. But plan it better and if people are okay to use prop roots to climb and get down

I had come from Coimbatore to this place and found it absolutely pristine and calm. The trek through the tea fields is steep and i recommend you have good shoes or comfortable flats on. The waterfall is awesome. Water is clear and flowing. One has to keep in mind that it is a forest and check for elephants before heading in the water. Ladies should wear comfortable footwear and casual clothes.

Very scenic place, though you will see only a thin line of waterfall. I just admire Tamil people for maintaining very clean washrooms at every place and this is no exception. Walking distance from the parking place. Road is curvy, drive carefully. Lot of birds, butterfly and tea gardens.

We went to this waterfall a few weeks ago. To reach this waterfall we have to walk over a km through the tea plantations from the parking . During the rainy time , the pathway to the falls was slippery and muddy. But bathing in the waterfall in the middle of the forest is an wonderful experience. On our way back to the parking, we saw a bear just 100 feet away in our path. Tea Planatations workers said the bears roamed the area after the lockdown, as there was less movement of people.

This view point is around 200m walk from the base. Only the side view is visible and is just a small sneak peak. It is very disappointing 😕 that we don't get to see the water falling from the center. The ticket is 20rs per head for adults and kids above 5 years There are public restrooms at the top but no eateries , no maintenance as such Most of the tourists were disappointed climbing all the way up to see nothing similar to a water fall You can skip this place from your must visit list in kotagiri

There’s no actual view from the view point due to trees blocking the view. We went to the falls, it is a short trek of 1-2 kms from where we can park our vehicles. The place will be closed if it rains. Good place to enjoy water amidst the forest. The waterfall is surrounded by forest cover on all sides, which makes it very peaceful to spend time.

    1. There is no permission to go there, You must proceed at your own risk. But it's worth it. 🏞️ 2. 1.5 km walk from your parking lot. Be careful while walking as this is a rough trail bath road.🏃 3. The speed of the water can increase at any time be careful.🌊 4. Also watch out for leeches on the walkway.🐛

You'll have to walk up to a local village and cross a farm to get here. No paved path to this place. It's a tribal area. Please don't litter, or pollute the place in anyway. Enjoy the sight... 🙏🙏🙏

Wonderful landscape. Nice walk through the bush for the view point. However you can barely see the course of waterfall. Just have to hear the sound of gushing water. There are multiple cascades but hardly some part is visible from the so called view point. Nonetheless due to the surrounding and walk through the tea garden, definately worth visiting. You also get a chance to capture the magnificent valley and tall wall like mountains on the other side.

Beautiful scenic view.Waterfall not visible much. Free parking available. Very neat and clean. Tea garden on both side of the route towards viewpoint. Overall well maintained. However it is better to go to the waterfall itself.

You will have to trek 1 km from the base of Catherine falls view point. Right now it is closed due to some reasons (animal sighting) but we went without the guards knowing😀 Great experience.

Not very clear view of the waterfalls , a side view as from the dolphins nose . Though they are building a place where tourists can take a bath which will take around 2 months from now, hope it will be a better experience

    1. Nice place to visit with your family and friends. 2. Falls is closed for 4 months may be till november so now you can enjoy view point only. 3. View point and falls covered by tea estate so you can enjoy very well. 4. Roads are narrow only.

Catherine Falls is a double-cascaded waterfall located in Kotagiri, The Nilgiris District, in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a major tourist spot, located on the Mettupalayam road branching off at Aravenu. The upper fall drops to the floor, and is the second-highest in the Nilgiri Mountains. The waters from the upper stream of the Kallar River are crossed by the Mettupalayam-Ooty road beyond the mountains in the southwest. The combined height of both falls is about 76 metres (250 ft). It has been generally claimed that Catherine Falls is named after the wife of M.D. Cockburn, who is said to have introduced coffee plantations to Kotagiri, however the name St. Catherine's Falls was in use even in 1852.The native name of Catherine Falls is Geddhehaada Halla, meaning "Foothills Dale River". The entire waterfall can clearly be seen from the top of Dolphin's Nose. It is also possible to take a road to the top of the falls.

The viewpoint provides a view of the waterfall from a long distance. Is it really worth the 6 km drive up and down the winding Road? Probably not, unless you take a short hike to the falls itself, best done before the sun rises high. Because this is not Ooty, and the summer temperatures are not really cool.

Catherin is on the foothills of an unnanmed valley,so we have to climp the hill and also treak to the downhills to meet catherin.. After parking at the foothills we started walking, climping to the heights was not easy. It's very close to us but to find her oh god not at all easy! Kilometers and Kilometres, the path is like a loop!!! Where we start, where we stand same place. After some tricky ways we started moving to down hills of Catherin, someone was came back and informed us that a wild Buffalo standing in the slope. We stand there for some times and then stated forward journey. Yes, atlast Catherin ...she was falling downwards....

This beautiful waterfall, which is visited by many visitors, quenches the thirst of many species of wildlife, including elephants, tigers and leopards. This waterfall is definitely a place for those who can enjoy bathing, bathing and eating without polluting the river and the forest. There are some dangers that need to be taken into account when entering the water. There is a risk of accidents if you go into the river without paying attention to the slippery and potholes in the rocks. It travels through the pesticide-free catchment area of the Western Ghats. The place is also notable for its natural beauty, which attracts a large number of visitors to enjoy the coolness of the Iowa waters...

The access to this waterfall is a bit tough. You need to walk long way through private tea plantations and through housing colonies. The tea plantation displys a " no tress passing" board but no security personnel present at sight. Water fall is good. I visited in January so the water was very less

Water falling from the top of a mountain. The place is surrounded by tea plantations. Its a must visit place for nature lovers. U need to walk through the middle of tea plantations to reach there. No entrance fee is there. Its not so busy place.you can sit and enjoy without any disturbances.

Time of visit : June 2023 The ride to this place is scenic and enjoyable. There is an entry ticket of ₹30 per head . One has to trek~30-40 steps to see the view point. The place has been surrounded by grills all around and there is no proper view of the falls. What could have been a flabbergasting view was just another view point.

Wonderful experience in the falls. Now they are allowing inside falls. We have to walk 1km from car parking. Walking route will be very difficult. Pls avoid Children's and elders ,bcos they can't walk this route.

  • 1/5 Julia K. 9 months ago on Google
1 out of 5 stars fits as maybe you will see one fifth of the waterfall from this viewpoint. You feel like you’ve been scammed after you paid 30 rs per head to see partially mouth of the fall and a trickle somewhere showing through the trees. Absolute waste of money and not worth it. When we spoke to the employee of Tamil Nadu Forestry dept collecting the entry fee, he said it’s collecting funds towards building the actual view point!

  • 5/5 Nitin M. 4 years ago on Google
Try this beautiful waterfall if you want to take a bath in Nilgiris' chilling stream. There are multiple ways to reach here. If you want to take a bath, you need to trek a bit (almost 1 km), but worth it. Ask the local people to make sure you take the correct path.

  • 4/5 Balasubramanian G. 4 years ago on Google
There isn't a lot to see in this place except for the fast gushing water. The water current was very strong and swimming was not recommended. I am not sure if this is the case during the course of the entire year. Pay a visit to this place and spend a few peaceful minutes as the trekking journey to this place too isn't too much of a hassle.

  • 5/5 Nirmalkumar R. 4 years ago on Google
We need to walk 500 meter from the parking to the view point. It was awesome to see that huge falls. The falls sound heard like thunderstorms. We can also go near to the falls by hiking upto 2 KMs. There is no proper parking area. But there is no crowd.

Had gone to view this waterfall from the waterfall viewpoint. You get an amazing view of the valley full of dense lush green forests with cotton like white clouds between the valleys. The waterfall looks really nice even from the distance and is quite a viewpoint for photographers and even nature lovers.

Honestly one of the best waterfall in and around Nilgiris ... 4 kms approx. from Aravenu road junction (Mettupalayam-Kothagiri route) .... followed by 1-1.5 kms small and easy/moderate trek through the plantains ...... thats all....!! You would witness mesmerizing falls and a ever gussing river stream ..... Water will be available throughout the year .. Guess June - Jan would be the perfect time to go there
