Though housed in a small and old building, the collection of ancient sculptures , coins and other antiques is superb. Display is also good, with clear labels. . The staff is friendly and helpful. Anyone interested in heritage art will certainly cherish visiting this collection.

I am visiting this museum after 10 years and got disappointed, because it was not properly maintained and partially only opened. Kids will enjoy only because of dinosaur with sound. Its required proper maintenance and they need to open fully.

This Government Museum is a museum located in the town of Pudukkottai of Pudukkottai District. This is the second largest museum of Tamil Nadu after Government Museum, Chennai. The museum is divided into sections covering zoology, geology, paintings, anthropology, epigraphy. Rare ancient stone and Bronze sculptures are also found here.I really enjoyed ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

There's no parking space, you will have to park on road side. Its a small museum, but its worth a visit. There are taxydermy animals, also some preserved in formaldehyde, then old items, music instruments etc.

Very good collection and worth visiting this place.... Staff members were very cooperative and we'll mannered nicely curated and displayed with staff they are responsive to general queries. Classification includes but not limited to stuffed animals, birds, reptiles, musical instruments, art, artifacts, and statues. There is a dinosaur which has mechanical head, jaw, forelegs, tail and body movements accompanied with sound lasting 3 mins at predefined time slots. Nice place to visit with family...and also students can get a more knowledge about our history and science...

119 years old museum lies neglected without adequate gallery. The second-largest in State next only to the Chennai Egmore museum. Started at Thirugokarnam in Pudukottai by the erstwhile Thondaiman rulers of the Pudukottai Samasthanam in 1910, the museum was handed over to the government after the merger of the samasthanam with the union in 1948.

One of the very few museums in India. It posses great collections of our ancestorial ornaments right from Chettinad to British and great warriors tools used for war. There is a prototype of a dinosaur which will be fun ride for kids with suitable audio systems. This is not so famous but must visit location.

  • 5/5 Elan C. 3 years ago on Google
Ancient and historical place to be visited by everyone. We can get a clear view about the birds, animals and their historical data. Surely Children's should come and visit this museum. If you are a fan of movie "Night at the museum" then you should come atleast once. Parking is little bit difficult so don't get tensed after reaching the destination. You should Park your vehicle in the road sides but no problem with the traffic.

It's the best example for the proverb don't judge a book by its cover... The entrance was small and looks like an old house... But inside lots of space there and nice collections... king Thondaiman was ruling Pudukkottai even during the British rule and after Indian independence too for a little time... So the weaponry available inside museum were relatable to the stories we have heard... Overall you need minimum of 3 hours to go along the collections.... There's is a dinosaur show on weekend evenings.. if you are coming here during weekends bring your kids too they will enjoy the show.... Overall nice place to visit....
