I searched for a bar which served cocktails, so we decided to walk over and give it a try. It definitely has a vibe as a private club. A very dark discrete entrance and very dark interior lit with dim lighting and candles. This bar would be a place to bring a first date to impress, not for a group of guys before going to sporting event. It was suggested we try a drink from each of the 3 staged aromatic senses, which inflated in price for each stage. We didn't stay for all 3 stages. The bar interior was unique and different. I had to use the washroom which was nice looking, but very smelly and needed to be cleaned. This was at 6pm, just the start of the night, very few people, so I was surprised. They're trying to make it a high end bar, specific clientele, so they need to address the washrooms, update their fabric couches to leather and mention to the bartender not to take personal shots at the bar. Maybe he was the owner? Family of the owner? I would have given 5 stars, if it wasn't for the last 2 observations.

Bar Chef was an unforgettable experience!! The atmosphere is cozy and dim. It feels somewhat like a speakeasy which adds to the excitement. The craft cocktails are sure to amaze you. The staff was informative and gracious. They offer Absinthe as well! This was a fun way to end the evening. The absinthe is served in the traditional manner which was an experience all it’s own! This place is a must of you are visiting Toronto. I would recommend a booking a reservation for the weekends!

Such an experience. Bravo. This place is worth the price you pay. They bring you the artwork. You can see the energy and passion put by FRANKIE SOLARIK into his work, and you are just in awe of them. Top services, amazing atmosphere, great products. Definitely recommend to everyone for a new set of experiences.

definitely a full sensory experience. for the modernist cocktails they have the actual drink and an edible portion. the drinks were super balanced. the strawberry basil spritz was my favourite of the evening. they also make such amazing negronis! the hosts were really welcoming and our server was really sweet (can’t remember her name off the top of my head but it started with a B). will definitely be back.

Came here for my birthday and I think it’s a fun place for a special occasion. It’s a very theatrical experience that’s worth trying once. The drinks looked better than they tasted. It was more about the theatrics than the actual taste of the cocktails. The food and edible components of the drinks were very good though. The service was very good and the atmosphere was very upscale and felt like a speakeasy.

If you're looking for a completely new and immersive bar experience, this is it. Their signature cocktails are pure theatre and are a delight to behold - expect liquid nitrogen, over the top presentation and the most fancy ingredients thrown in. It's like a Michael Bay movie in cocktail form. My friends got the cedar and essence of fall drinks while I opted for the irridescence. Their drinks were amazing and everything we expected, but mine was a letdown. I know the menu has no pictures to save the surprise for later, but if I had known the irridescence was going to look like a birthday cake cocktail I would have picked someone else. It just tasted like an overly sweet milkshake and there was nothing memorable about it. Usually I would knock a star off my review for this, but my friends' drinks were just too good. Since the focus is on the cocktails, I didn't expect the food to be as good but our appetizers were pretty tasty! I loved the brie toast - so creamy and perfectly melty! I couldn't stop scraping off every last bit of it. Prepare to pay an arm and leg for the full experience here, but it's worth every penny.

The presentation of the cocktails is enjoyable and the cocktails taste quite good too. Loved the experiment with each one and the flavours are just as described in the menu. There are some accompaniment food items with each drink that apparently enhance the taste. We also ordered the brie and the fries for little bites and they were good too. Overall a very happy visit with the friends and would love to go back again.

Booked a table for a Saturday afternoon. My reservation was for 4pm, servers were very friendly, informative and quick to respond. Ordered two drinks from the modernist series. They came relatively quick as well. There is a 1.5 hr limit for a reservation. The smell, taste and actual drink as well as the presentation was amazing. The cocktail is self was pretty good. It is relatively expensive but also a very social media worthy experience. Also one you won’t get from a lot of places. It wasn’t too loud or crowded around 4/5 ish so if you’re actually looking to enjoy yourself it’s prob better to book an earlier reservation !

Honestly, not impressed. I think it was a 2 part reason, but first let me start with the pros. The ambiance was nice, they clearly put a lot of thought into the décor, the hostess were great. The parts of this experience that I found were not so great. First of all, for such a high-end spot I think the bartenders were not really that helpful in explaining flavor profiles or suggesting drinks based on what I told them were my taste preferences. I tried one of the modernist drinks the Black truffle - great presentation but just meh on the flavors. I mean to be honest, all the flavor came from the food item and not from the drink also the coconut flavor was either the subtlest flavor of all time - or what is really more likely non existent. I also tried the sesame samurai - again, the flavors left me wanting more. I love cocktails, I don't mind spending on drinks if the product is worth it. I really don't think this place should be asking for upwards of 20 CAD for basic drinks and 30+ for their modernist drinks - especially when the people working behind the bar aren't able to guide you in the right direction. I think its an alright place, I wouldn't tell people in Toronto they HAD to come here and I certainly don't believe it lives up to its price point. FYI - fries were not good.

This bar is amazing. The drinks were great in taste and presentation. Good atmosphere to hang out with friends as well. I ordered the Sesame Samurai, Strawberry & Basil Spritz, and Sailors Mojito, with a side of truffle fries. First time visiting this bar and definitely not my last, recommend others give it a visit as well.

Quite the experience. Cocktails are interesting and unique and excellent. Really good service too. Only the food wasn't as good as you might expect (tofu was strictly okay). But for cocktails, this is the place to go. Reach by 6 to avoid waiting!

BarChef is honestly such a vibe! This intimate cocktail bar serve drinks you've never seen before! Some may argue their cocktails are gimmicky but I absolutely love the creativity and complexity they have to offer!⁣ ⁣---⁣⁣ 💨𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐟𝐟𝐥𝐞 $𝟑𝟎 (𝘉𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘭𝘦 𝘴𝘯𝘰𝘸, 𝘴𝘮𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘵, 𝘤𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘢𝘮, 𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘻𝘦𝘴𝘵, 𝘨𝘪𝘯, 𝘤𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘶𝘳, 𝘥𝘪𝘭𝘭, 𝘦𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘭𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘶𝘳)⁣ An elegant drink with sophisticated flavours. This cocktail is both sweet and savoury. The actual alcohol was a bit out of my palate (too bitter) but I found the black truffle snow to be very intriguing and tasty. ⁣ 🍋𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐫’𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐣𝐢𝐭𝐨 $𝟑𝟎 (𝘚𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘥 𝘳𝘶𝘮, 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘩 𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘦, 𝘮𝘶𝘥𝘥𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘵, 𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘢 𝘢𝘪𝘳, 𝘤𝘳𝘺𝘰 𝘮𝘰𝘫𝘪𝘵𝘰⁣ 𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘭𝘴, 𝘤𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘵 𝘨𝘦𝘭, 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦)⁣ Honestly can't go wrong with a mojito. The mojito pearls were both refreshing and addicting. I didn't expect the rum to be as strong as it was, but the acidity of the limes and the rounded sweetness of the vanilla really tied it all together.⁣ ⁣ 🍍𝐏𝐢ñ𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐚 $𝟑𝟔 (𝘊𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘥 𝘗𝘪ñ𝘢 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘥𝘢, 𝘤𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘬, 𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘦𝘥𝘢𝘳 𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘣𝘦𝘵, 𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘳, 𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘨𝘦𝘭 𝘥𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘴, 𝘮𝘪𝘤𝘳𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳, 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘦, 𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘻𝘦𝘴𝘵)⁣ ⁣This was the most beautifully unique cocktail/sherbert I've ever had! I hate the taste of coconut but BarChef really surprised me with this cocktail. You get bits of heat, sour, sweet and bitter-- honestly a refreshing treat with an array of textures. ⁣

Really beautiful drinks experience. Will absolutely be back here with friends and family again. Beautiful place for a special date or celebration. Worth the price. Cindy was our lovely server, and we were helped by a few others but I didn’t get their names. The service is great. Cindy was so chic and fun and super attentive. The drinks were great. My favourite was the most simple one I had, surprisingly.. haha. The Coa. I didn’t get a photo of that one but if you like tequila and woodsy flavours then I highly recommend the Coa. Our other favourite was another one I didn’t take a photo of, haha… the Absinthe Sour. I had 4 drinks and didn’t leave feeling overly intoxicated or uncomfortable as I sometimes do when I have 3-4 drinks elsewhere. I think that speaks to their high quality ingredients. We were a party of 3, & we spent roughly $150 each. This included 3-4 drinks each, and 1 appetizer each. My only qualm was: I arrived just a few minutes after my friends.. and as I arrived they were being served a complimentary grapefruit essence palate cleanser…. They had not consumed it yet.. but I was not offered one. — And as a paying guest that was a part of the party, I felt it was a bit strange to not have been offered this as well… leaving me to just ask my friends how it tasted and feeling a bit left out. Otherwise, I forgot about that quickly and did have a wonderful time… just felt it should be mentioned.

An upscale, quaint but relaxed place for special occasions and to sample modern mixology and niche cocktails. The signature cocktails are elaborate and a combination which engage all 5 senses. We tried a couple of gin, rum and tequila based cocktails which were not only interesting but also packed a punch. The apps are limited but do the job. Make reservations in advance to avoid line ups.

Top notch atmosphere, with top of the line drinks. Totally worth the experience at least once in your lifetime. The taste aroma and presentation of the drinks are out of this world! Here are couple of pictures. Notice the Modernist series is amazing! Also tried the absinth a experience. I have a video that I will post of it soon!

Ordered drinks from the modernist menu. Each came with very elaborate presentation, besides the drink itself there are other elements that came with it - a white chocolate ball filled with cocktail inside and strawberry infused jello. Definitely a nice experience type bar. Great for date night

** Top Shelf Cocktails 🍸 ** My wife and I went for my pre-birthday night out and made a great memory. The host was very polite and helpful; thanked us for our patience with a sample mix drink. The environment was just right. Comfortable seat, mood lighting, and the music was just loud enough to listen to while engaging in a conversation with my wife. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the drinks and didn’t hesitate to make a recommendation based on our preferences. When our drinks were delivered, each drink was its own artistic display. Very visually creative while meeting the same quality in its taste. Overall it was a great night out and worth every penny for the experience. Would love to come again for a different occasion.

Been on my bucket list to come to BarChef, and finally came for my birthday with a friend. When first walking in the aesthetic and dimmed lights really set the tone. The menu has an extensive list of drinks, but all intricate and separated by type/category. We tried two drinks each, all from different categories. The staff really know there stuff and will help support you choosing a drink based on your preference. Our server Rachel was amazing, she was friendly and really knew the menu. The taste of all the items were so lovely and had so much depth with the multi-sensory approach (with items to eat and drink). We also received truffles and another treat for my birthday, thank you to Annabelle the manager, she was amazing too. Overall the experience was great, I'd say for the price, it is high, but if you think of all that goes into each item, it makes sense. It is a fun show and totally worth it to experience every once in a while with people that enjoy a unique experience as well. Will definitely come back!

This bar is amazing! They do some really cool stuff with the modernist series cocktails. Not only do they look beautiful but they taste phenomenal. I would highly recommend this bar for a night out with friends, date night, bachelorette, etc. The prices are on the higher end but it’s worth it for the quality.

How did it take me this long to come here?! Got a truffle drink amongst others but that one (pictured) stood out amongst everything I’ve had in my life. Perfect combo of sweet and savory. Spectacular place. Only comment: would love for a better selection of food items that is on healthier side

Been there a few times, and almost always its a consistent experience. They know their product and what they are selling, which clearly has a target audience with it's foot traffic and location. That said, I am not one of those. Drinks as good as they are, can be a little overpriced and Froufrou, without a whole lot of depth. Plenty of other cocktail bars and legit speakeasies are better on that front. But they nail their presentation, which adds the the 'fun' part. So good for out of towners to show off cool tricks they do, but not really something I would want to visit a whole lot. Mostly, you find interesting people/company there and staff is very skilled. Their 'essence of the fall' is solid choice, for drinks. Experience does actually smell/feel like walking through frosted woods on a crisp morning and stepping on some moss. Or go with the basics, their riffs will almost always be a pleasant surprise.

Had a girls night on Monday. The place was practically full! Love the dark candle lit ambiance. When they brought out the more so expensive cocktails the presentation was absolutely grand. The tacos were delicious really tender meat and the green sauce they serve with it was so flavorful! Ive been here before covid and its nice to know if i bring new friends it will be just as good. Love coming here!

Big fan of this place. All the candles make the ambiance spot on for a sexy cocktail spot. The big, bold cocktails are fun, but we actually found their small boozy ones outstanding. Some of the best we’ve had globally. Sliders were yummy. Keep up the good work!

Wow! What an experience! This place is a must try! The candlelit interior and sounds of casual conversation provide the perfect backdrop to some of the most incredible libations I have yet to savor. We tried this place on a whim…. And I’m so thankful we did! Caden and Ethan were the bartenders, and were awesome! They are extremely approachable and provided excellent insight to the vast menu of cocktails. Caden even asked us for our personal preferences and made us drinks tailored to each of us on the spot. This is a truly unique place and is something special.

Really nice space. Service was good. But it was incredibly hard to hear anything the servers were saying. Had great expectations that fell slightly short. We had a weekend in Toronto and experienced a lot of bars and this one just fell short in comparison. The cocktails were good there was nothing wrong with them but there wasn't anything exceptional about them either. Instagram photos are fabulous and I feel like this is a place that you visit once and perhaps you don't need to go back to again.

Was at Bar Chef or night when they had the Netflix show winter in attendance. It was cool to see a celebrity while you’re eating dinner. There was also a tequila tasting. That was fun and informative. Really enjoyed the experience and the vibe of the place. Some of their drinks are really nice, but I did find some were overly extravagant for no reason. Definitely worth going lately. Pricey, but a nice experience.

it’s a very mysterious speakeasy bar. but one minus point for loud and tasteless music and dim lighting i wouldn’t say all the cocktails live up to it’s description, there are a lot of drinks that the server said it’s a whole experience and you have to come back and forth with the drinks and other edible parts to taste the differences but sadly the differences are very subtle. I understand it’s for a marketing purpose that all the premium drinks come with almost desserts and a whole plate of bouquets and etc. but truthfully the drinks itself is rather mediocre. and the dry ice, bouquets, smoke and fires are not worth the price. i would come back for pina colada for sure because the sorbet is really delicious, delicate, refreshing and full of textures but is it worth almost 40 bucks, very debatable

  • 5/5 Regina T. 7 months ago on Google
Went there Friday night without the reservation, it took 15 mins ish waiting for one person at the bar. The atmosphere was awesome and staffs were nice. I ordered “Strawberry & Lavender” to start, which was a good choice as the first one. Apparently it’s their popular cocktail even thought they change their menu every six months. The second one was “Italian Breeze” and it surprises me, cos bartender messes up grapefruit cocktails sometimes and makes it too bitter. However it’s perfect, not too sweet and not too sour with black tea and strawberry flavor. The strawberry crisp quite matches with the cocktail as well! I love both cocktails I ordered, would like to visit next time for sure!

Super cool! We came here for a cocktail during a girls trip. The signatures are INSANE works of art! It’s magical. The only reason I’m giving it a 4/5 is because when we sat down at our booth the hostess broke a glass that shattered everywhere, instead of moving us to a different table, they swept the glass off the table, most of the remnants were gone but some remained on the booth. I recommend going to bar chef just for the experience of these artful drinks and the experience.

Great spot for something different. The drinks were good, but we had a hard time with some of the accompaniments of more elaborate drinks. Like the eucalyptus glass, which stuck in our teeth/didn't really dissolve.

Came here to celebrate my birthday and had an amazing experience! Annabelle, the manager, made our night memorable and made us feel special. She was very knowledgeable and friendly. I had a hard time choosing which cocktail to get but she based the modernist cocktail off my flavour palette. I wanted something sweet and not too strong and she recommended the pina colada and it was perfect and beautifully presented. The truffle fries are also amazing. We can’t wait to come again!

I have never experienced anything like it here. I highly recommend you go. It is expensive but I felt it was totally worth it. The modernist series drinks came out with such presentation, it was like a show. Not only did they look great though, they tasted incredible. We tried BarChef for the first time Saturday evening and it was one of the best cocktail experiences that we have ever had (especially in Toronto). We are so grateful that we were able to get in (a big thanks to you, Kelly). BarChef offers an absolutely stunning space to enjoy their perfectly curated cocktails. I love the dark candlelit interior with the blackout blinds. It's very cozy and so intimate. The cocktail list is out of this world (it's honestly so hard to decide which drink to order). The service is above and beyond- very professional and clearly educated on spirits and mixology. The food is great too! They offer just the right amounts of "small plates" which pair so well with their cocktails. A truly wonderful experience from start to finish. I definitely recommend Barchef. It's a must try if you are ever in the city. We definitely can't wait to go back! Cocktails ordered: - Coconut and Absinthe Sour (the best "sour" I've had) - Toasted Old Fashioned - Seamless Anejo - Sailor's Mojito (just wow!) Food items ordered: - Fries - Garlic Togarashi Riblets - Korean Fried Tofu - Japanese Fried Chicken

This place is always a memorable experience. Wholly unique creations in terms of drinks and the food is amazing for people who love creative food and cocktail pairings (have the fried chicken!!!) Very dark inside. Beware that if anyone in the joint orders the smoked Manhattan, you will be smelling the hickory for five minutes or so, so just enjoy your water until it clears to keep your own drink pure. ;)

Very nice presentation and environment, great aesthetic and interiors. The taste of drinks are nice! It would be perfect only if the customer service is as perfect as the drink and environment: Server of our table told me to put my water bottle off the table right after we were seated saying outside liquid not allowed, very funny and being professional ( even I didn't drink anything from it and I carried it only because I went to dance training before). Personally think It is not polite to assume your guests are going to drink sometime from their bottle just because they happened to bring one. Hopefully not every guest get treated the same if they have a gold water bottle 😊

A perfect date night place, However recently went their for my friend’s bday…Seems like a private club with the mood lighting, but the drinks are to die for. it was Such an amazing sensory experience. They have few drinks with edible part to it which was interesting to me. Strawberry and basil sprits is my all time favourite here but I tried the forest drink for the first time and that was pretty good. The presentation and the entire experience was impeccable and the service is top notch. One of my favourite bars in town ♥️

For an amazing experience in drinks...this is the place to be. Keep in mind that the upscale price reflects in the quality drink you are about to experience. Renowned for reinventing the drinks to be made the proper way with house made bitters, methods of smoke and foam for final touches and all done in the most relaxed ambience. The staff are superb 👌. Recommend the Toasted Old Fashioned and The Fall Essence as well as their signature version of the Manhattan under the Modernist section. Small tapas styled snacks are there as well. Highly recommended for an evening with friends, dates and old loves.

Amazing atmosphere and so unique! My husband and I went here during our honeymoon trip and they were so kind to us, even giving us a special drink as celebration. Everyone was so kind and they even gave us suggestions for where to go afterwards. We loved everything about this special spot, if we lived closer we’d gladly go back. If you want a wonderful and fun drink experience, I highly suggest BarChef!

Can see why this is ranked as one of the best bars in Canada. The third page of the 3-page menu are the more expensive, chef-created drinks that are more elaborate. - Atmosphere was excellent; great decor and mood lighting - The Spruce and Coffee Mai Tai was excellent (one of the better drinks I’ve had in a while) and well-priced - I didn’t personally like the Black Truffle as a set (the drink was a little strong for my taste) but the truffle snow part was tasty. Can certainly appreciate the artistry and presentation. - Prices are just slightly higher than the other ranked bars I’ve been to (esp. in Montreal)

I'm going 3.5 here - I've been to BarChef many times before and I can certainly see why most people immediately rate it highly. There is a certain novelty to BarChef, something that dazzles people who haven't seen what they do before. And there is certainly something to be said about that! For me, maybe the novelty has worn off. Unless you're ordering one of those drinks that essentially "come with a show" (dry ice, fire, or accentuated aromas), I'm no longer convinced they are worth the price. It's a fairly pretentious environment as well so keep that in mind. We did arrive at the end of the evening, and we were probably well served to arrive earlier. Service was okay. I will continue to frequent BarChef as someone who brings there out of town friends, or friends who've never been, to experience the novelty that BarChef offers.

Absolutely amazing, worth every penny for this unique experience. I have been a few times and always have my mind blown with unique, innovative, and exquisitely composed cocktails. The strawberry & basil spritz was so good! There are two unique edible components with every texture and sensory experience imaginable that complement the cocktail perfectly. It was an amazing place to celebrate my birthday and catch up with good company. Definitely make your reservations and check it out!

Wow! What a Magical experience from the minute you walk into the fabulous door. The drinks and small plates are one of a kind and out of this world. The service is outstanding and the knowledge they share on the preparation of the food and drinks is something they make movies from. Top notch!!!

If you're looking for a unique cocktail experience, this is the place. We were so excited to go here and it did not let us down. Drinks were $$$ but absolutely worth it. It's not a place you go to have a few drinks, definitely a one and done lol. I tried the Pina colada and my partner tried the Margarita and they were both so cool and delicious. Charcuterie board was also SO tasty. The cheese and meat selection were paired perfectly together. Would definitely recommend going here for a date night or just a fun experience.
