I finally visited specifically to try the "world's best apple cake" that many of my neighbours have been raving out. Yes, it DID live up to the hype! I also bought a falafel salad, which delicious and fresh. Very reasonable prices too. Elias, the owner is super friendly. He greeted me as soon as I entered. He has been in business for 28 years. I definitely appreciate this wonderful local business. Support local gems like this!

Wow, wow, wow! I am filled with guilt and shame for living in Toronto for 17 years before going to Mystic Muffin. I repent! The apple cake is out of this world. The bagel sandwich is fresh and delicious. Best falafal I've ever eaten. Excellent muffins! And the best part is the owner--he is friendly and hilarious! Our family will be back again and again!

This review is solely based on the apple cake and service. The cake was the perfect combination of soft on the inside with apples and with a little crisp/crunch on the top - $3 for one slide. Before I tried it I saw that he sold full trays of them for ~$11 and ~$22 (don’t quote me exactly I forget) and couldn’t imagine people would need that. But I do. For just myself. It was fantastic especially for the price. The owner was also incredibly kind, welcoming and patient as I navigated the menu boards. He loves his business and loves the community. I have yet to try anything else but cannot wait to!

Rave reviews for a reason! The owner is outstanding and makes everyone feel at home. A lot of regulars and he knows all their orders. The food prices are VERY reasonable and you get a satisfying, simple meal which is hard to come by these days. I got a loaf of banana bread and it's delicious! Can't wait to try the apple cake 😊

The friendly banter of the owners with good tasting, reasonably priced food makes this a must place to try. Did I mention how delicious their apple cake is? It is a no frills, solid place to enjoy a lunch or breakfast. Can't wait to go back.

After reading the reviews, I had to experience this myself. Quite unassuming, and the Hype is real! 🙌 We got a plate of falafel, hummus, pasta salad, chickpea salad and pita, chicken and potato wrap with a chocolate chip cookie and a pop. To go we got a sausage roll along with a veggie patty. Super tasty plate, ingredients are fresh! The chicken and potato wrap is tasty and the portion to price ratio is great! Best sausage roll- flaky and well seasoned, the veggie patty was stuffed! Friendly service, great place to eat best bang for your buck! Pay them a visit! 😋

Worth every step to reach this place. Not far away from St Lawrence’s market. If you go up the street you will find one of the best apple cakes ever. Nice falafel and hummus and simple good bagels ( they have other things but we did not try them)

I was working across from the street at the holiday in putting in a submersible waste water pump… when I went to go to the gas station and noticed this place “mystic muffin” the name captured my attention, I went in and looked over the menu.. the man who served me suggested I try the “chicken and potatoes “ and they sold me on the banana bread loaf. The wrap was great! Saving the bread for my family! But I bet it’s good! And got both all for $12, that’s including a tip! I highly recommend!

My boyfriend and I were just walking downtown and came across the shop the name was really intriguing and the signs had really good prices so we went in! The food did not disappoint we had these stuffed Patty which is only $3.50 and it was really delicious! The shop owner is also super nice they're known for their apple cakes which is baked fresh and made by hand, I'd would recommend it! There's no indoor dining but there is a park nearby that you can eat your food at :)

I went here this afternoon to pick up and try their famous apple cake. I got home, devoured it and called the owner to tell him it was amazing. It's moist and flavourful, yet not overly sweet. The portion is generous too. The owner is a gem and he told me his business is 28 years old. I'll be getting more next week and can't wait.

One of my favourite cheap-eat spots in Toronto. For $10 cash, you can get a filling veggie plate with falafel, pasta salad, hummus, chickpea salad, fries, and a pita on the side. The owner is friendly and always there to ask you how your day is going as well :')

We were walking in downtown and looking for a quick snack spot to continue going from Distillery District to Nathan Philips Square. Mystic Muffin came to rescue with its moistest and delectable apple cake. While I am a savoury person and took red lentil soup, my husband grabbed a hot chocolate. I’ll highly recommend soup and cake (of course not as a combo). This place is in business for 30 years now and the owner is probably the jolliest person I have met. The pricing is extremely economical for a place in downtown. Marked as one of my favourites now. For more such reviews/explorations, follow me on insta at @mygourmetaffair

Finally got to try this place. Falafels are really good. The samosa is not really that great. The apple cake is VERY GOOD. Next time I will heat mine up a bit in the microwave. Prices are extremely cheap. The guy in there is pretty funny.

Yes the hype is real, I love everything about this place, the owner, the food etc. 10$ for lunch meal in TO is unheard of these days. There apple crumble is something I buy and take home once a month. Enjoy.

Feeling ashamed that I did not know about this 29 yr old Toronto small cafe ‘til now. Its kitschy & super casual. Wonderful to see the steady flow of obvious regular customers. Happy accident helped me finally find it. Our little group were fortunate to stop here for a snack of: lentil soup, egg wrap sandwich, egg salad, coffee, banana bread and apple cake. They TRULY DO have incredible 🍎 apple cake! Go visit Mystic Muffin in downtown T.O. Support this family run biz! I’ll definitely be back. (Find me on Instagram- @aida.loves )

DEFINITELY lives up the hype for that apple pie. It's moist and very very flavorful. Includes apple pieces in it. I couldn't stop eating to be honest. The owner is a great salesman and hilarious. The only thing is the vibes are a little sketchy, but don't let that stop you!!

No clue who the man serving me was, but his service was incredible, he recommended me a loaf for making my ex feel better (he had no idea o recently broke up) so I'll tell you, this place is mystic for sure. Most based man I've met. (Pictures related)

Amazing local shop, simple menu, simple flavour. I always get the chicken salad wrap with falafel and it's so gooddd! Do not accept credit card, 25 cents cents debit.

This is one of those old fashioned places that has a ton of different things on the menu and a friendly little, old man working the counter. He makes jokes and engages with the people waiting in line. The atmosphere is light and friendly. The food is delicious. The apple cake alone is well worth waiting in line.

I have seen Mystic Muffin for years but never tried it. I attended this past weekend with my partner to get a bagel. Overall the experience was really lovely. The owner is super friendly and welcoming. The prices are extremely reasonable. We both got a bagel sandwich and had absolutely no complaints. We were planning to go for a walk after and asked to substitute the coffee for a bottle of watch which was no problem at all. I’m really sad I haven’t been to this place earlier but I will definitely be going back.

Fantastic spot to grab lunch. Go-to place. Highly recommend trying their Super Annie Chicken Salad or Super Annie Hummus and Falafel (they make the best falafels!). You have to try the banana chocolate loaf and apple cake too. The owner is the kindest.

Had the chicken and potato wrap + apple cake. Chicken wrap was fantastic for $6 and the apple cake is as great as everyone says. The guy at the counter was friendly too and gave good recommendations too

We need more businesses like this in Toronto! Elias is a true staple in the community and his food (especially the famous apple cake) is fantastic. He’s even let me come by very early in the morning to pick up fresh made cakes for my colleagues, and they were completely polished off with raving reviews. I always look forward to a visit, a must try!

Love the apple cake!!! Look past the outside cover of this place and please visit and try the apple cake. The owner, who was the sole person working, has a great sense of humor and hospitality. And the place was well packed with people ordering, waiting for their orders. You can buy a single slice or a couple or the whole tray! Single slice is quite big. It's fluffy, moist, not-too-sweet, with chunks of sweet apple. The best part was the sweet, caramelized, crispy top of the cake, adding great texture and flavor.

Amazing customer service and the food is delicious. I got the veggie platter and the apple cake. They were not kidding when they said it’s the worlds best apple cake! The Mystic Muffin is a must try.

one of the best local gems. owner is so lovely and delightful. super neighbourly. food is so good - and their apple pie is the hype! the falafels were great too. and honestly, you can’t beat the prices here. definitely make this a regular go-to stop in your life!

Awesome little place with, as the owner likes to say, "Prices from the 80s"! I live just down the street and my only complaint is that I don't have the time to come more often as by the time I finish work they close and I can't wake up in time to walk over. The owner is a very nice man, always happy, and isn't lying when he tells you his apple cake is a must try! Come check this place out! I promise you won't be disappointed!

This is the best spot I’ve found in Toronto so far. Elias is amazingly kind and warm, the food is the tastiest, the place is clean and super friendly. The prices are unbelievable and so many options for vegetarians/ pescatarians. I highly recommend, my new go-to!

  • 5/5 Patrycja C. 1 year ago on Google
The most authentic place in Toronto and absolutely amazing prices, nothing you can get anywhere near this place. I got the lentil soup and banana bread loaf (whole loaf!) for $9!! He was not kidding when he said it comes with a side of love, you could taste their culture in the soup. Tastes like something your grandma would make when you miss home. Truly an experience coming here. Will be back very soon!

First time to mystic Muffin it's amazing the owner is friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend a visit. There was no apple muffin so I had chocolate chip instead.

Always drove by this place and loved the cute name and store front. Finally decided to stop in to try it out and was not disappointed. Excellent apple cake! So moist inside with a crispy coated exterior. Will be back to try a muffin! (They also look great with big puffy muffin tops). The owners are so sweet too!

First time here, bagel and wrap! Fresh, tasty, healthy food with good price. I was supposed to buy a slice of banana bread but I got a loaf at the end and I don't regret. It's perfect with coffee!

Absolutely delicious falafel sandwiches. The owner is very welcoming (and funny!) and the food tastes really good. What more is there to ask for?

I crave theirscoop of tuna with mix salad. The spices they use on it are absolutely delicious! And don’t get me started on their apple cake. Totally addictive… Best I’ve ever had! The owner is such a sweet man, always welcoming and friendly.

Their veggie combo is super filling and so so yum! The owners are the kindest people, and I always have a great experience when I go!

Arguably the most underrated spot in the area. Great prices, great food and the folks making your food are safe and quick. Don’t sleep on the sausage rolls and the apple cake- both amazing!

  • 5/5 Alicen W. 2 years ago on Google
Service + affordable food + TAXES INCLUDED = Five stars. In my book, anyway. Thank you for including taxes in your prices. The falafel sandwich (which is actually a pita, says so right on the menu) was delicious for the price you pay. Simple, quick meal to take with me with the playground so kids could play while I enjoyed my lunch.
