Unfortunately, my group had a pretty bad experience at the restaurant. We were unaware there was a cover charge for the 8pm show when we entered. When we were told this cost, we informed the hostess we would not stay until then because that was not the intention of our visit. We had 1h 45mins to eat before the “concert” began. We went because the menu looked like it had good options for all dietary needs. While we ordered our mains in advance, we got them when the concert started and finished eating ~20 minutes into it. I’m sure someone who appreciates jazz may have enjoyed it but we did not as our main intention was to go somewhere to talk work. In terms of food, the appetizers were alright. The squid salad was quite tasty but it was small. Unfortunately, the mains were not good other than the lamb. The fettuccine was tasteless and overcooked and the gnocchi was overly sweet. Most things looked much better than they tasted. Quite disappointing but the real disappointment was when we tried to ask for the bill. We were informed cover was going to be charged. But we stayed ~20 mins of an expected 2.5h show only because the food came later than expected and we couldn’t stay because of the noise level. A few members of our team tried to negotiate this and were able to reduce it halfway but the negotiating process was something that surprised me. The Manager (Ed? Ted?) at the location was rude to us, lost his temper a few times, swore, said some demeaning comments and my coworker said the potential of calling cops was brought into the conversation. All that for the discussion of cover costs! Our entire party was rudely surprised and left for a nearby restaurant whom treated us nicely and offered some great food. Interesting experience, I wouldn’t revisit again though.

Place was fantastic. From the food to the atmosphere. The music also was wonderful. Can’t wait to go back again. Learn more of our adventures on IG: andrew.anne.adventures

Music was great!! Stunning loved the musicians. Very grand royal vibe! $20 cover charge. A bit of different jazz - not exactly traditional jazz instruments- but great performance. Food was okayish. There was a bit of extra salt overall. From complimentary bread to squid salad to vegan gnocchi. It became great with tobacco. Red sniper main course was yumm! Service was good! Drinks were okay too. I liked my old fashion but my sis didn’t like the chai blossom too much.

Come here for the stellar live music, but definitely not the food/service! Honestly, it’s the only thing saving this from a 1 star review. The menu items are severely overpriced, which would be acceptable if there was not already a $20 cover fee. Ordered a “charcuterie board” for over $25, and say in quotations because there was not a single piece of cheese. Just a few pieces of subpar cured cuts, a mini cooked sausage (?) and 2 squirts of mustard. The bread came with a *choice* of olive oil or butter. Next time I’d go with olive oil as the latter was a tiny rock hard pebble of butter. All the food felt like it came from a quick trip to No Frills, minus the price. The service wasn’t a saving grace. I’m usually understandable with inexperienced servers since the pandemic labour shortage, and although our server was new and inattentive, he was still pleasant. The hostess however was very rude to me and my partner, and made us uncomfortable being there. It’s a shame because I did really enjoy experience minus what’s said above, and there are not many small venues like this in the core. On the fence if a return trip is worth it’s faults.

We saw Jacob Chung's Christmas performance and the musicians there were absolutely amazing! They had a ton of energy and it was a lot of fun to just sit there and listen to them. The audience here makes the atmosphere very nice and energetic too. You could tell everyone there enjoyed jazz music. I wouldn't come here just for the food though, but would definitely come again for the music!

It was our first time visiting the Jazz Bistro, and we had a really great experience! Loved the cozy atmosphere and the food was delicious too. The roasted chicken with gnocchi was so tasty and my husband loved his burger. I requested a cocktail menu and was informed they were in the process of updating it. Quality cocktails would definitely add to the amazing vibe of this place. Rémi Bolduc and the band were fantastic and the sound was perfect! I appreciated that they requested no talking during the performances but unfortunately the two young women sitting beside us talked the entire time. They obviously weren't there for the Jazz, but we did not let that take away from the enjoyment of our evening. After 2 years, it was gift to have an evening of live music at The Jazz Bistro!🎶

The venue was truly delightful, boasting an outstanding atmosphere. Its interior was tastefully adorned with a striking red and black aesthetic, featuring a magnificent chandelier that caught our eyes. The bar area exuded a charming retro vibe reminiscent of classic 1960s or 1970s movies, which we adored. We indulged in delectable French fries and excellent drinks, thoroughly enjoying the experience with my girlfriends. The staff pleasantly surprised us with complimentary garlic bread, and the live performance was beyond exceptional. As a jazz enthusiast, this place was a perfect evening chill spot, and I'm definitely planning to return for a full dinner experience. The crowd was equally fantastic.

Had to update this review - one year later and the place is dead, and in sad repair. Broken toilets, broken lightbulbs, just not being maintained at all. The only good thing was the music. Saw Wild Blue Herons live here, they were incredible! Beautiful venue, great food and service. About $30-40 for main course, wine starting at about $50 a bottle. Menu is small but we'll executed. Acoustics are great, seating done well so everyone can see and hear properly (not a given in a music club, sadly). Staff are very lovely.

Great place for jazz lovers. Professional sound and appealing atmosphere. No entrance fee, but if you go to a concert you will be charged extra in the restaurant bill. Pretty busy for the jazz programs, better book beforehand. The food was ok, but not stunning. I had vegan gnocchi with mushroom sauce and a sticky pudding with a scoop of ice cream. Pudding was fine, not too sweet. Very attentive service. 5 stars for the live jazz 4 starts for the food.

Come here for the jazz, not the food. Food was basic, lacked flavor and very expensive. It felt like an after thought. Pro tip : Skip the food. Grab a drink at the bar and listen to some great jazz!

Sooo we went to the Jazz Bistro to celebrate my mothers birthday. The service was impeccable our host for the evening Veronica was amazing and helpful made everything super easy. I just have a couple little issues, the food was good but for the amount you pay not worth it. $20 for 2 pieces of braised beef, 41.99 for rack of lamb that came with 3 pieces not 4 also should have came with somthing like wild rice or something I get the dishes were to be upscale but they should also be filling. We had to pay for bread which is normally free everywhere else. We also paid the entertainment fee which was well worth it, however we we decided to move upstairs for the late night session we were going to be charged again for an entertainment fee. I feel as if we paid once we should have to pay again especially if we will be buying drinks etc... However all in all we enjoyed ourselves the taste of the food was great and again service was amazing.

Great spot for some late night jazz. The open stage sessions can be a little intimidating with all of the high quality jazz artists, but the level of play is great! It’s a small spot upstairs so make sure to come early enough!

Server was very nice but lacked training. Food was amazing. Location was excellent with Mervish Theatre across the street. Live music is great but I didn’t care for the random fusion jazz.

Jazz bistro is a really nice place. We booked a last minute dinner reservation and all they had was the 5:15 slot. There was a $15 cover charge included in our bill and beware that another one that applies at 8pm. We had the burger and the fries. The food was good and the music was great!

The food and cocktails were absolutely delicious!! Then there was the music...The Tim Hamel Quartet was a great start with some great jazz standards and then Green.John.Brown. finished it off with some phenomenal fusion. Thanks for a great night, we will be back!

My partner have been regulars at Jazz Bistro for several months. The food, the service and the ambiance always seems to come together exceptionally well to make it the perfect spot for a great evening out together. We recently had Jazz host our wedding and it was simply a flawless experience. From dealing with Ted (the manager) and Laura (events lead) to the Chef and the service-team - they simply could not do enough to make our special day flow perfectly. The third floor event space is perfect for smaller events (we had approximately 50 guests) with indoor and outdoor space. From the impeccably wonderful feed to the friendly, highly-responsive service, the Jazz team exceeded any and every hope or expectation we had. Whether its for a night out or hosting a special event, this wonderful spot deserves consideration!

Always a good experience here. Just a note that there is a cover fee of $15. Food was surprising good, especially the seafood spaghetti. It was a fun experience to request my favorite song to the band as well.

Add the grated grana padano cheese to the fries for $2, you won’t regret it. Enjoyed snacking on fries and charcuterie while listening to amazing live jazz.

The Jazz bistro is a fantastic place for jazz lovers and a hidden gem in Toronto's busy entertainment vibe. They perform both on main level and 3rd floor and have a nice semi open patio upstairs. Going back there after 4 years, the quality of service and food is still outstanding. The performance of the band (Club 350), jamming was astonishing.

Didn't expect the most delicious and well sourced food of Spanish seafood stew as starter and the main course of the juiciest of Cod steak well seasoned in a music venue. And on top of that when you can wallow and swing with the coolest and most stylish of jazz with Laura Anglade and her quintet - all the players superb - Heaven ! Go !

Awesome experience! After previously visiting Jazz Bistro my husband knew he wanted to have his birthday there. We booked his birthday event and we couldn't be any happier with how the night turned out. We went with a preset menu and all of the dishes tasted great. Our guests loved the music and really enjoyed themselves. Thank you to all the staff who helped with planning the event. It was really a success. Big thank you to Eren and team who were so kind and such a pleasure to our group that night. Everything went so smoothly thanks to their service. Highly recommend Jazz Bistro for any occasion!

Good food and good atmosphere, I just wish we weren't so rushed after dinner. Basically, as soon as the band finished, the server brought our bill while we still had full glasses of wine and had JUST received our desserts. Right after that, the lights came on and the staff were congregating right in front of our table with the band, to the extent that I had to ask one employee if he could stop leaning on our table. Weird lack of awareness on the part of the employee, but the message was clear that we shouldn't still be there. This was just after 10pm on a Friday night, so it's not like it was super-late or anything.

Amazing ambience and delicious food. It may seem a little pricey at first due to the cover charge but you will be listening to live jazz while you enjoy your meal. You will definitely not be disappointed.

Well, let me begin by saying, "to each is own". Jazz Bistro is known to many for various reasons. The music is an highlight ( for me that is) and truly serenading and soothing. It seem managers have changed and that in itself do make a big difference pertaining to the service/hospitality. My recent experience was not as anticipated...very disappointing to say the least. The issue is with Service. First of all, the servers do not seem properly trained but perhaps it was few noticeable ones in particular. Lack of experience to certain key details were observed and it only got worse. The long wait for food, this was beyond reasonable explanation (1 hour or even more). Food expected to be served hot was super cold and the quality lacking. Protein items were either under cooked or overcooked (not palatable enough). After seated for several hours, it seem our table (party of 10) was abandoned. Our server seemed a bit overwhelmed, and this however rest on Management because our party was booked in advance. Given the volume of orders including drinks etc, seemed a bit too much for her. Another issue is this ridiculous amount of charges. Again, the music was very good and paying for that service is understandable, but the food should simply just be complimentary (shame on the Kitchen Management). Cold food should be served cold (and kept cold), Hot food should be served hot but instead a total opposite. Our table was disgruntled. We can understand that it can be a bit at times especially on weekends, but having a large party, the service should have been much better. This party was pre-booked so no excuse on quality service. We made our opinion felt and heard so just hoping Management will look into what transpired and improve on service.

Recently, we had a retirement party for a group of 80-100 people. Nice decor, desert was amazing, but other food. We used the 3rd floor of Jazz Bistro. I absolutely didn't like how finger food was served - no tissues, no forks, no mini plates, no chopsticks. How can you eat rolls and sushi? Considering the price range in the venue, and also parking cost me $30 for 2+ hours, I will not come back.

Let's Commend Jazz Bistro on a job well done for poor service and cold, dry food. 5 stars indeed. 🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲 My first live music entertainment/ "fine dining " experience at the Jazz Bistro was a true and utter disappointment. I am still grieving over the money I wasted going there. The service was poor from start to finish, our party of 8 was seated promptly at 8pm, (the reservation was booked ahead of time) we got MOST of our drinks by 8:45/8:47pm and appetizers were also ordered at this time. By 9 pm we ordered our mains and then proceeded to wait until 10:48 before my mom had to request a manager. He made excuses and showed no empathy but instead blamed us for not knowing that this is what to expect from Jazz Bistro.... long wait times, there was no urgency to make us feel tended to after being abandoned for our entire stay, tucked away in a corner upstairs. The manager passed our table more times than I can count and never stopped to ask if we were okay ...but enough of that. After a little back and forth with the manager our meals arrived in high fashion 4 minutes later....COLD, like it's been sitting in the window for a very long time. We even had to tell him how to do his job by offering us some complimentary bread as a suggestion or at least keeping us informed as to when we will be served. Oh and the appetizers finally came in attendance with the mains, I meannnn appetizers are served long before the mains but OK. The server, Lord God needed help, you can tell it was her first big table and she should've had an experienced helper but no it was our fault that the Jazz Bistro was understaffed (as stated by the manager). Were we suppose to hire the extra help ? We all left unsatisfied and to top it off had to pay an 18% gratuity for a POOR JOB, a TERRIBLE SERVICE and overly loud jazz. They need some work for sure I won't be back though.

My wife and I had a great time at Jazz Bistro! We haven't been in downtown Toronto since the beginning of Covid-19 so it was a nice break. Covid-19 screening at the door. Tables are socially distanced apart. On a Saturday night, there was a cover charge of $20 each for the band and it was definitely worth it! Drink prices are expensive and expected but not outrageous for downtown Toronto. They do take reservations but we were able to get a table as a walk-in. If it is a popular singer/band, you might want to call ahead. Live music is back in Toronto! If you love Live Jazz Music, you definitely need to check out Jazz Bistro.

The band is great! Food and drinks are ok. You would expect the wait staff to have the right training for a proper restaurant dine in. I recommend the music n drinks. Wasn’t too impressed by the dining experience.

The atmosphere was inviting with live music setting the mood. However, the mussels had a very unpleasant odor, and the chicken could’ve used the sauce directly on the bird. On the upside, the complimentary bread was fresh and a nice touch. Overall, while the ambiance was enjoyable, improvements are needed. Service could’ve been better too.

Service was very slow. The food was average. The GM scolded us for talking while being seated before the band was even on. It seemed to set a bad tone for us for the evening - he then reminded the audience to be quiet at intermission. I’ve been to other jazz bars in the city that are more relaxed and more fun. The band was very good - the atmosphere not so much.

WHAT A NIGHT! Amazing service, Incredible music, Sensational food, Perfect ambience. The cafe gelato is the best coffee dessert, I’ve ever had in my life. If you like jazz, you have got to stop in for a peak at some of these incredible artists. Even with all the staff wearing masks you could still feel their smiles and good vibes! The GM Ted is an absolute riot and our server Alejandra was well able to handle our banter! And honestly not many are so we were quite impressed. Would recommend as a MUST SEE hidden gem of the city. Thanks a million for a spectacular evening Jazz Bistro- we will be back !!

Toronto's premium music venue for jazz music, blues, Afro-Cuban and do much more! Being a premium venue, there is a premium price to enjoying a good occasion there, but what you get is some of the best musicians in the city, the only Steinway grand piano in any "small size" music venue in the city, and both a delicious food menu and extensive options on the drinks menu. If you want to dress up, and experience some of the best of what Toronto has to offer, I highly recommend visiting the 'bistro!

Ok ok…. Before I get to deep into it, I must say that I love the vibe of the place and I’m all for supporting artists and the jazz bistro is one of my fav places for live music and a night out. That being said. The food isn’t great. The cheese plate for $27 contains a minuscule amount of meh cheese and 6 pieces of walnuts. It’s a bit heavy, that you’re willing to put down to support the joint and the musicians. The “steak” on the other hand was really bad. It was a stewing beef quality piece of beef that had zero zing, with the saltiest fries that will give your kidneys a workout. Desserts on the other hand are heavenly, so are the bar’s cocktail offerings.

  • 3/5 Mary M. 2 years ago on Google
Meh. Burger was very good but the Caesar salad was definitely not worth the price. Quite small and uninspiring. Plus if I had a loonie for every restaurant that doesn't have decaf coffee, I'd be very rich. How hard is it to buy decaf?

First time coming here..... decor was beautiful, music was great but the service was bad.. the server didn't have any personality at all, no hello, no welcome to our restaurant, no introduction or smalltalk of any kind. The food was presented beautifully however I got the rigatoni with veal cheek and the pasta was undercooked (no it wasn't al dente, it was undercooked) and the sauce was horrible. The vegan gnocchi was amazing, flavorful and spot on. House burger was dry and really overcooked. The dessert was good but I'm thinking not house made... Overall not bad and I would go back since it was a fun place because of the music. Give it a shot

  • 5/5 M P. 1 year ago on Google
Service was spectacular and so was the food. There’s a $15 cover on Saturday due to the amazing live music, however if you have tickets to Ed Mirvish, this is discounted. The rigatoni was perfectly al dente and the bf loved his steak and frites. We can’t wait to go back!

Was an amazing time! Went on a first date here, the atmosphere was really relaxing, great jazz trio playing while having a nice tasty dinner. Had the rigatoni and it was well done. It was hard to find parking nearby so anyone who needs to park I recommend coming a bit early to find parking. I was also able to use Open Table to book our reservation. Will definitely come back again one night soon

After researching a few live jazz music places, booked a table at the jazz bistro for a friday night. Booking was fairly easy and simple on opentable. They called me just a few hours before for a confirmation. This bistro is nothing but pure magic. If you are reading this review, please do yourself a favour and book a table here. What a wonderful night it was! The musicians were AMAZING. The food is extremely delicious and freshly made too. i am a vegetarian and I dont drink, i had lot of options. Please try the fettucine and thank me later 😎. Service was exceptional! Everyone were so friendly. The negative reviews mostly talk about the cover charge of 20$ . I was made aware of this from the time of booking a table. They reminded me atleast 3 times. So dont buy the reviews which state “hidden cover charge”. If you want to support wonderful local artists and a quaint little bistro, do visit this place.

Great view of Vibraphonist David Friedman and his band, even from the 2nd floor! Sound quality was excellent. Enjoyed a delicious steak and frites that were so delicious, no ketchup or sauces were needed. The hostesses were wonderfully helpful; they truly tried their best to find us seating even though they were fully booked.

We absolutely have fallen in love with this place. It was our first time there and an experience to remember. The staff worked together so seamlessly supporting each other and their customers with high level of service. Their attention to detail was top notch. The cocktails were divine and the food was incredible! Every level of detail was captured in every essence. We also got to take part in some of the most incredible live jazz - certainly a night to remember
