Did a walk-in for brunch at 10AM as a group of 4 and we were able to get a table in the back room. Vibes-wise, loved the school theme of the restaurant and the fun little details in the interior decor of the place. As for the food, it was okay, not terrible but not that great either. I enjoyed the chicken & waffle but the other dishes were just average to me.

This restaurant was a good experience. The place itself is a bit small and your tables are close to others, but they make what they have work. The wait can be a bit long if you don't get there at a good time, but the food is worth it, great brunch spot, high quality food. Would definitely go back. If you drive it can be hard to find parking, but if you plan well, you will have a good experience. Staff is great and polite, and the coffee is good as well.

SCHOOL Restaurant is an awesome brunch spot in Liberty Village. Be prepared for a wait (we waited about 1 hour on a Sunday holiday) but I feel like the wait is worth it if you have the time. Definitely try one of their sweet pancake / French Toast options (to share, or for yourself- I’d recommend the Synonym Toast). The Super Cheesy Bacon French Toast is a great savoury twist on the traditional French Toast. Coffee is awesome and there are plenty of cocktails. We will definitely visit again!

Overpriced. Chicken and waffles were just okay. The chicken was a bit dry. It was busy so there was a bit of a wait. They don't take your name down so you just have to wait in line. Food and drinks came out pretty fast. After the food was delivered, I never saw the server again. She only came by for the bill. Not sure if I'll be back. Cute school theme but that's about it.

I went for a birthday brunch and really liked it. Good food with good prices. Variety of options from sweet to savoury. Respectful staff. Beautiful atmosphere with very open space. Although the queue was long, the food preparation didn’t take too long. It was cold that morning and thankfully, the waiter turned on the heater. It was quite crowded by 10am but after tasting the food, I understood why the place was crowded 😅. I recommend.

I'm a big fan of the apple crumble pancakes. Came on a Saturday - most seats got filled after the first hour it opened (impressive considering the large seat size of this venue). This may have affected service, as it took approx. 40m from our order for food to arrive. Still enjoyed the brunch visit (Pancake score: 8.5/10)

The School is nice place to go on date or for a casual dining experience. The buttermilk chicken was well seasoned and tasty, the waffles was great. The chickpea veggie burger was good taste freshly made. It is definitely worth going back again.

First of all the aesthetics of this restaurant is so much fun. The vibes were great and the decor really sets this place apart from others. Though the parking does need to be paid for. Some of the best breakfast and brunch foods I’ve ever had- the waffles are so delicious and filling- and the chicken is so damn good. My cousins and I devoured the blueberry pancakes. The customer service was the best I ever had- kind and accommodating. Will recommend this to everyone I know going downtown!

I decided to have a spontaneous breakfast with my children. It was a GREAT choice. A cute spot, great food. We underestimated the portion size for the French toast but it was so good. The chicken and waffles were devoured by my son. The only thing I didn't like was that I wasn't able to order a side of eggs. But other than that a great experience and great food.

Food comes in big portions. Pretty much every meal has maple syrup on top as well as as side. Just be aware of it if you’re not a big fan of sweet food. The Caesar cocktail was one of the best I’ve ever had. Ordered Buttermilk fried chicken with waffles and Super cheese bacon french toast. The restaurant has large patios decorated beautifully.

Hey gang, Back again with another review, So the girlfriend recommended this place, And it's a great little vibe, from the music, to the decor. It's definitely our type of place, and the food!!! I believe typically people come here for brunch, and they have simple but good menu, with plenty of selection. I got some pictures below, I got the safe bet, and she got the French toast which was more than a mouth full. Service was good, I'd have to say though. If you want to get a good spot, not worry about wait time, try to go before 11am Otherwise, there may be a bit of a wait time. But tables turn over fairly quickly so it isn't too long of a wait. But it's a great little spot after or before a hike, or just a tour on the town. This place comes highly recommended, for some solid service and solid food. See you next time folks, Cheers, Akil

I've tried lining up at School the past few years but wait times were always extreme but this time around we got lucky! Just 30 minute wait. The food quality definitely lived up to it's reputation. I really enjoyed my super cheesy bacon french toast. Pancakes were delicious and if you're looking for something sweeter, their cinnamon french toast would be a wise choice. I find their chai latte a bit watered down? Chicken and waffles was great too. Chicken was juicy. We sat at the bar so we got to see some cooking and prep in action. Servers and staff were really nice and friendly! My only down side which isn't the restaurant fault is that there's a emergency shelter for homelessness community built right across from School. Right when we came out from the restaurant there was a lady holding a crack pipe screaming non sense at us and followed us for quite a bit. It was a scary encounter.

slightly long wait time but it was expected... what wasn't expected was how amazing the fried chicken and waffles would be!! The chicken was so crispy and delicious and the blueberry pancakes were so beautiful and full of flavour. Cocktails made with fresh juice were refreshing and the ambience of the whole place is just awesome. Definitely recommend this place for brunch, try to go early to avoid long wait times!

The brunch is average. I don’t see whats special about this place. The pancakes are okay. Crunch french toast was dry. The fried chicken is good but not amazing and then portion is small.

Went into this restaurant knowing nothing and I surprised! I had a bacon, cheese french toast and it was SO good! I almost thought the syrup was a shot! The salad was a nice balance between everything. I had to remove some of the cheese but still, I would recommend this dish! It’s really good!

Wonderful brunch spot. It's walk-ins only. We sat outside in a tent and it was beautiful. The heaters keep the tent reasonably warm so it was fine sitting outside but I kept my jacket on to stay warm. The food was delicious and the service was great as well!

Went to #School this morning for Brunch. Met our Friend there. We had heard there was usually a line to get into school so we arrived early and hung out in front of the School. There was a line when they opened but we were first in line so we had our choice of seats. We started off with Beverages. My husband ordered Hot #EarlGreyTea and a #BloodOrangeMimosa I decided to just go with the Juicy Lunch Lady and got a Blood Orange Mimosa too. The #mimosa was a lovely fresh squeezed juice with Prosecco. A nice way to start school in the morning. For school Brunch my husband ordered the Black n' Blue Flapjacks. Stacked High w/ Black + Blueberry Sauce, Brown Sugar Butter, Real Whipped Cream + Pure Maple Syrup. The #Flapjacks were Devine. The sauce was yummy, sweet, and fresh, the flapjacks were not overly fluffy and had great texture, some of the best #Pancakes we’ve had for brunch. Our friend and I ordered the Golden Hashbrown Poutine Pan-Fried Hashbrowns, Sautéed Leeks, Cheese Curds, Rosemary Mushroom Gravy, Tomato Chutney + Topped w/ a Sunny Egg. The #Poutine was amazing! One of the best upscale poutines I’ve had. The cheese curds were melted beautifully amongst the hash browns and leeks making a disc of yumminess that was then smothered with a beautifully rich and savory gravy. The sunny egg over the top was grade A fantastic, the egg oozed all over as I ate the Devine creation. I also loved the micro greens on top that gave it some contrasting texture and flavor. Our first day at School sadly had to end. The clocks said 3 o’clock and reality said it’s time to go. We left well fed and happily satiated, what school should do. We hope to be back in school again. School is definitely an A+! #TorontoBrunch #SundayBrunch

The ambiance and decor is absolutely amazing, service team is on point and the food is good. If you need a brunch place, would recommend! Blueberry pancakes are really good, a tad sweet but thats just my preference. Chicken and waffles are a solid meal, nothing outstanding but well done. The menu looks great and would come back to give it a try again

Updated review. The quality of has gone down over the years yet the prices keep going up. The service is quite slow to get coffee, water, orders in. It can be busy but there’s things they could do to help like leaving a pitcher of water at the table, especially when seating is outdoors and it’s 30 degrees out. The food is fine, nothing to go out of your way for. The menu is really restricted if you have dietary concerns as they don’t allow any substitutes or alterations. Be aware if you have any restrictions. An example is I asked for my egg to be on a side plate so my dining companion could eat it and it didn’t contaminate my meal, that was denied.

Very innovative and tasty food! I thought the school vibe was cute, and their patio seating is well set up to provide flexible spacing and coverage form the sun. Prices were decent/standard and the service was fast and friendly!

I LOVE the food here. Best chicken waffles I have had in the six, and the French toast I can just inhale. It’s quite a drive from where I live, but anytime I am in Toronto and brunch is a possibility, I am there. Apart from the person over the phone, who says he can’t predict the future, when you ask if there are any tables available for today (instead of saying they don’t take reservations), every thing is five stars and more.

Good food. Nice setting (aside from the injection site across the street). Service was great and everything tasted good. Waffles and pancakes a litttttllle to thick and fluffy for me but still really really good. Didn't give it the 5 star just because the thickness of the waffles/cakes makes it seem bland for certain bites. Chicken was cooked perfectly and very well seasoned. Apple crumble on top pancakes was delicious.

Absolutely my favorite! Travelled from the other part of the city because I was craving their blueberry pancakes! Very friendly staff. From experience I knew weekends have really long wait lines and no reservations is possible so I went during week days. Their patio is really nice! Oh! Before pouring maple syrup all over the pancakes try for sweetness because the blueberry compote is already very sweet 😊

Very good vibe, good coffee and food. The chicken and waffles were great, soft waffles, crispy well cooked and seasoned chicken. The hashbrowns were great. The only thing I was kind of disappointed about was the pancakes. They looked soooo good but honestly they were too thick and cakey instead of light and fluffy. They looked great but the texture was just off. Also the toppings were way too sweet. It definitely needed something acidic. I hope they fix the batter and maybe add a Raspberry sauce to balance the sweetness. Or something similar. Service was great, our waitress so very helpful. Place was clean and we were very fortunate we got there just before the rush so no wait.

My first visit to School was for the Fried Chicken and Waffle and boy was it good, but my second trip was for the Blueberry Flapjacks and brunch mimosas. I took my family here during the Winter holidays. I love how School is always ready with a seasonal menu that changes. Trendy area with lots of young people and visitors from out of town. Lots of seating options for big parties up to 8 and small couples of two. The kitchen is fast and the service is excellent. A must visit brunch when you're in Liberty Village during Winter ❄️☃️

School restaurant offers a distinctive old-school atmosphere, but the food could be better overall. The Health 101 bowl stands out as a good, healthy option on the menu.

Service was perfect but the place wasn’t as good as expected. We saw this place in some list of best Toronto’s brunch restaurants but it was not enough. The menu has not too many options and somenthing really disappoointing was the fact of not being able to order Eggs as a side when it is supposed that Eggs are usually a main ingredient in brunch’s menus.

I saw the pancakes on IG and definitely I had to go to try it !!… omg !!! Are delicious 🤤 .. but in other things their menu is very American, they don't have much variety on it, but I definitely come back for the blueberry pancakes!

Been here many times and the food never disappoints! Their fried chicken is the best I’ve had in the city. Their sweeter options on the menu are an absolute delight as well!

Honestly this was one of the best breakfast places I've ever been to!! I haven't gone to a restaurant in so long where EVERYTHING tasted amazing! I got the blueberry pancakes which were so fluffy and super filling, I also got the soft eggs and bacon meal which was so yummy they actually flavored their food where I didn't have to add a bunch of salt to make it taste like something. The bacon is a bit different though, it has brown sugar on it making it taste like candy but it's good at the same time! We also ordered a side of fried chicken and wow it pulled everything together! Definitely worth your money for sure 👏🏾

Best brunch in Toronto! Delicious chicken and waffles. Highly recommend the cheesy bacon French toast

  • 5/5 Sabrina P. 2 years ago on Google
Very trendy brunch spot in Liberty village. School takes a lot of care in their branding with school themed dishes, chemistry beakers for cups and receipts that come as a report card. The food is tasty and takes classic North American brunch staples and puts a spin on it.

Great place for brunch! Friendly staff, cozy environment. Be prepared to wait on Sundays as it's really busy. Stopped by twice this week, no bad experiences.

Mildred’s was closed so got to try School for the first time and 100% loved it! Also first time trying their chicken waffles and it was everything I expected and more. Maple butter? On point. Whatever the sweet sauce was? Perfectly paired with the maple butter. Chicken crispness & seasoning of the butter? Absolutely amazing. Will definitely try this place again!

Food was on the pricier side but it was delicious! I loved the fluffiness of the pancakes - definitely a shareable plate. My friend had the chicken and waffles and she said they were excellent and would order again. I gave 4 stars because the drinks took a little long to get to the table and my latte was actually served in a dirty cup (someone else’s lipstick was still on the cup)… and they should probably do something about the wasps and birds hovering over the tables in the patio. Other than that, good service overall. Would visit again.

  • 3/5 Carly R. 4 months ago on Google
I ordered "The Safe Bet" but left unsatisfied and hungry. The portion size was absurdly small; and that’s coming from someone that is a light eater. The eggs were only half the size of my palm, and the "hash browns" amounted to about 1/8 of a cup – essentially deep-fried air. When I asked for more, I was informed there would be an extra charge. I won't be returning soon, but if I do, I would only choose one of their sweet breakfast items for better value and a fuller meal. Our waitress made a very weird comment about allergies. When we said we didn’t have any allergies she replied saying, “I guess we’ll see!” in a non-sarcastic way. Giving 3 stars solely for the delicious pancakes.

Great place for breakfast/ brunch! Love the service, vibe and the food. We love the blueberry pancakes and the cheese and bacon Frenchtoast. A little overpriced and a long wait if you visit on the weekend.

  • 2/5 Areej K. 5 months ago on Google
Horrible experience! We waited over an hour to get a table (that's still fine as we knew from before that the place would be super busy). However, the brunch was NOT AT ALL worth the wait. Pancakes were super, super dry!

Amazing food. The first time went with boyfriend for birthday breakfast. We were seated outside. There were tons of wasps around as our food was sweet. But we were told that nothing could be done. Second time we went table was broken, but stuff was accommodating and it was fixed fast. Food delicious. Portions are amazing. A bit pricey. Need to mention that for breakfast restaurant they have very poor selection of tea/coffee/etc. drinks

  • 5/5 Natasha B. 6 months ago on Google
1st time visiting and was not disappointed. We ordered the Chicken & Waffles as well as the Safe Bet. Both were delicious. We also took an extra order of bacon home because it was one of the best we've had. The staff was very friendly and upon ordering asked about allergies, which I thought was really great.

Tasty, Friendly Staff and Good location! Love coming to School because the staff are so friendly, helpful and attentive. The female server we had both times shes so Lovely and remembered me even after 1 visit! Always checking up on if we are happy with our meals or needed more. I am so impressed and Happy theres a place that makes you feel so welcome and comfortable. The price point is good too also! $20-$25 per entree. Their special butter that comes with every dish is freshly made and a seasonal flavour too. Lots of Parking on the street too $3/hour. 10/10 would recommend.

1st time here, our server was great. Not too many brunch selections to my liking though so I went with the safe bet which was good. Place was a vibe and beautiful for pics, we had a good time.

Wow what a cool place. The outdoor patio has such a nice atmosphere and it's so peaceful, decorated so nice with the pumpkins and a tree that provides shade and makes it feel like you are on a picnic. We ordered the pancakes, they are so rich in flavor, sweet and the whip cream is real. The bacon was the best bacon I ever had, sweet yet salty. This place was amazing, the atmosphere, the staff, the food. If you come here be prepared not to be able to finish your food because it's too much four pancakes was just too much in a pleasantly surprising way, you wanted to keep eating but you just couldn't. Definitely come here, and if you come on a Sunday parking is free until 1.

This was a very cute brunch spot and the food here is delicious. I tried the synonym toast and the blueberry flapjacks both were amazing -tho I prefer the toast. Food is more on the expensive side but the portions are big so it makes up for it. I came here twice and the service is amazing. Would def come again!

Go early and still expect a line up, it’s popular- but we found it moved ok…we arrived about 10:30. I’d say it was 15m wait. When we passed by after 2pm, line was just as long. No reservations. Street parking free until 1pm on Sunday, and a lot beside that appears free? Inside, the food makes it all worthwhile! I had a mocha and decadent cheesy French toast and my friend had coffee (good) and the pancakes. Cocktails also an option. Everything was slow to arrive, even drinks; but kinda expected since it was completely jammed. Server was friendly (apologized for delay). Interior has nice vibe. It is pretty loud. We were also just inside door- which they left open so there was a consistent cool breeze (unpleasant) which meant keeping our coats on. I had visited a few years ago and enjoyed. Glad to get out and enjoy brunch!

Food is marvelous! We actually were going to Mildred's but the line there was insane, decided to try School and oh boy! The brunch is truly amazing. The ambient is all decorated with school things, there is even an apple in every table, a simple but clever touch. The line was short and we hadn't to wait much. Service is great but they are more to the expensive side, expect to tip at least 20% (the credit card machine is pre-set).

Staple in Toronto for a fantastic brunch. Great layout and school theme, super friendly staff and delicious food. Spicy Caesars for the grown ups and a liter of freshly squeezed juice for the kids were a hit. Blueberry flap jacks, Golden Hashbrown Poutine and Cheesy bacon French toast were fantastic. Keep up the great work! Love this place!

Amazing atmosphere. They always do something to improve their patio and indoor settings. A great taste of colour with their patio plants and an added turf carpet under the wooden tables. I’m already a fan of their food as I always visit this place when visiting Toronto. Just thought I’d give a review while waiting for my friends to order :-)

Like most places in the area you have to pay for parking, the restaurant itself is small and even if you choose to sit indoors you are still basically outdoors. Like a previous review said they do place the glasses upside down directly on the table which doesn't feel like it's super hygienic. There is no kids menu and the food takes a while and it's very pricey. They close at 3pm on Sunday and Monday which we weren't expecting. Having said all that, the food is absolutely delicious and it's presented really nicely and their servers are great. The portions are good as well. I would go back

Really great brunch spot! Other brunch places in Liberty Village have 2+ hours wait even on a Friday. We got a table here immediately. The pancakes were phenomenal!

  • 5/5 Dee L. 11 months ago on Google
I had the Golden Hashbrown Poutine, Sugar Cured Ontario Bacon and The Dropout Ceasar. Ceasar was super tasty and perfect for a late-morning hangover. Golden Hashbrown Poutine was super cheesy, rich in flavors and drenched in gravy sauce. This is the dish if you are a gravy lover like me. 👍 Sugar Cured Bacon ... I could have had another order of this if I abandoned all self-respect. 😋 Overall the presentation, service, experience and vibe was a winner. As for pricing it isn't considered value for your dollar but more of a treat, a reward for the "end of a long week of work and late-night debauchery".

Went here before my friend’s tattoo appointment since it was really close by. I loved how they served the drinks in the beakers, it reminded me of the days I did that when I was still in school! The pancakes were absolutely to die for!! The soup was alright, that day it was a curry soup… just tasted like diluted curry? Nevertheless I still had a great time and the decor was definitely very cute and school-like. They have lots of seating and even an outdoor terrasse!

Went here for brunch. Highly recommend this restaurant. Manager Robbie is a gem, so attentive and caring towards his customers. Food is delicious, a must try! We had chicken and waffles and blueberries pancakes. Natural juices are really good as well. Waitress that helped us was so kind and friendly.
