I had an overall great experience. I found the Neill Wycik to be a great value for money. Of course, the cleanliness and sound proofing is not great, but for such a good price, and after checking the reviews, I had very low expectations. I was thinking of avoiding the showers, but in the end, it s not that bad. The shower per room ratio is great. The sheets and towels were clean. There is a bar soap provided. It was interesting to read about how the space function, it's a student housing during the school year and they function as a co-op. The biggest surprise was a very decent free breakfast (pictured), compared to way more expensive hotels I've been to! I had enough for a snack later. Keep up the great work and thanks for making Toronto affordable!

Absolutely terrible. The fact it’s over $100 a night after what we stayed in is atrocious. We were there for two nights and just from walking into our room, I was considering walking and staying anywhere else. I don’t care that the rooms like a prison cell or an empty trashy dorm, it was the heat. Our room was an absolute sauna that it may as well have been the boiler room. It had a large fan so clearly they’re aware there is a problem but the fan did absolutely nothing. We were on the 18th floor and the window was broken so it couldn’t close or open completely. It shouldn’t even be able to open that high up for security and safety reasons. The shared bathrooms were disgusting and look like they haven’t been cleaned in five years. Hair stuck in the drain, looks like things are growing… the only thing nice was the staff. The staff was excellent and always kind so it’s a shame that there is 0 effort into making the place look nice. Not to mention the door to the hallway our room was located, the doorknob was broken. The lock was bent so you weren’t able to put the key in at all. Luckily they had another door to the hallway.

This hotel is not for someone who really cares about cleanliness. If you have ever lived in a Canadian university residence you will be absolutely fine. The staff were very friendly and were very accommodating for early check in. The location is phenomenal and is about a 6 minute walk to the subway in what felt like a very safe part of town. However, the sheets did have hair on them. Knowing this from the reviews I brought my own sheets which made the experience exponentially better. They provide a towel, hand soap and a cup. I used the cup to transport my hand soap to the bathroom. The bathrooms were disgusting and I would STRONGLY recommend avoiding showering here it at all possible and at the very least bringing shower shoes. The view was extraordinary and was open late into the night to get incredible views of the city. The breakfast was also amazing, you get to choose from 5 bakery items/coffee/fruit which was able to keep me full until dinner.

Set your expectations low and you won't be disappointed! A small room with just a bed, a fan, and a desk. The bed was firm and comfortable, the fan propped nicely into the window to blow cool air all night long, and the desk was smooth and wide enough to write a long letter home. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Everything was well-kept, if somewhat aged. The shared facilities were fine—hot water was hot and cold water was cold. Common room had a fridge, a chest freezer, and a range. Furniture there was stained but clean. I was on the thirteenth floor, which provided a nice view of the Toronto skyline. If you never went to college and want to know what dorm life is like or if you're a fifty-something looking to relive your early twenties, this is the place. Sarcasm aside, Neill Wycik Hotel is an acceptable, affordable option for visiting Toronto if you're traveling light.

Set your expectations low and still be disappointed. tLDR: if can afford it stay elsewhere. Here is my experience this far: ---left bags with the front desk to be held prior to check-in, was told they'd be moved to safe place. Came back hours later, they were unattended in the hall. ---the bed is likely the same as the ones used by medival prisons to torture prisoners ---rooms are dirty, damaged (holes in the wall, water damaged in the window area) and no AC ---the unit we were assigned had 4 other rooms, with only one working bathroom (one shower and toilet). Which was the filthiest hotel shower I've had the misfortune to utilize. ---customer service is also non-existent Update: ----the black mold was worse than initial inspection. The shower was full of hair and filthy. We went to cancel and leave. They held our rates hostage and would not allow cancellation with the valid health concerns.

Lived here for a semester and a half and wow... this place is literally jail. You have to show your ID to enter-like jail. The rooms are like cell bunks, and you have 2-6 cell mates per unit. The units are even alphabetized like jail- I was in 6J. The quality of living is absolutely horrendous (Cockroaches) and the upper management and security force is shady and corrupt. I have seen eye-witness the security manager Rod illegally entering my roommates room at 3 in the morning and telling him to leave because he is trespassing. I have seen the letter the housing director Noreen addressed to that same person telling him he has officially 1 day to move out. Both of those things are 100% ILLEGAL regardless of any rules that supersede the Housing Act. Truly a nightmare, but for cheap rent in the downtown core- you get what you pay for.

It was the worst experience of my life. I misclicked the wrong dates to make my reservation and right after I called the hotel to change the dates explaining them the situation. I just wanted to switch the dates, not to cancel or decrease the number of days and I was willing to pay the difference in price; they just didn't let me do it. I called booking and the hotel several times but the hotel was inflexible although there was availability for my desired dates, they wanted to charge me twice, the stay with the wrong dates and the "new one" so I lost my money. Totally inadvisable.

Let's start saying the best thing: location. You can walk to everything but a train station is also close Individual room was ok.. bed wasn't that comfy and the worst part is how warm the room can get. Too much.... it's true that there is a fun but it sounds like a motorbike. Shared toilets and showers were clean! Maybe because there were not many ppl but still, clean!

Best value for price that I could find anywhere in downtown Toronto, I loved the fact that single rooms were available, as opposed to other hostels that require sharing a room with other people. I got my own bedroom that locked, and shared a toilet, shower, and large kitchen area (with a fridge and stove) with four or five other rooms. When I stayed, it was pretty quiet and there was only one other person in my suite. My only complaints are that the rooms were hot (but not unbearably so) and the sheets weren't the most comfortable, but overall you can't beat the location, price, and excellent service from the staff. Free breakfast is an amazing bonus - the selection was good and the amount of food you get is amazing! Other reviews might be overly critical because of the student dorm energy, but as a student myself who is used to living in residence, my room was very clean and the furniture was in surprisingly decent condition.

VERY UNSAFE PLACE. You have 40* year old men living among 18/19 year old girls. When the new year started - I overheard an older male (in his 30’s) look at the younger girls and say “new shipment coming in boys…” These are 17 & 18 year old girls coming in for their first year of uni/college. reported this to the building. No action was taken. VERY UNSAFE, HORRIBLE PLACE. For new students. Parents of new students wanting to live here - BEWARE !!!! Unsafe standards to the FULLEST. The amount of lack of concern - is highly concerning aswell.

Great place to stay if you are in a budget and have low expectations. The room and showers/kitchen were decently clean, just okay for a few days and if you are a student on a budget like me. It is certainly not spotless though and I would not walk around barefoot. The staff are all really friendly and help you with any questions you may have and breakfast is also decent fro the price, although certainly nothing special (they offer bagels, spreads and yoghurt, as well as some fruit and coffee and orange juice boxes) The location however is unbeatable for the price is say and the view from the roof terrace is spectacular. Would definitely recommend for other students or backpackers.

First of all this isn’t even a hotel.. More of a campus. The staff are rude and not considerate at all. The establishment has a foul smell overall. Housekeeping is the worst here. They do not pay employees correctly. The food is disgusting. You might as well go to a real hotel where they actually care about their guests. Very misleading for them to have hotel in their title. Would give -0 stars if I could. Beware. Very unsafe location. BEWARE.

It's more a hostel than a hotel, but definitely a nice place to stay. The rooms are fairly spacious and clean. There were two beds and two pillows in our room, one of each was pretty comfortable, the other wasn't, so that's hit or miss. The staff is friendly and the hotel is safe. It's very near to everything. If you're looking for a 5* hotel, this isn't it. If you're looking for a cheap place that's also nice, right in downtown Toronto, this is your place.

Anticipated some roughness in the stay due to it being more hostel than hotel, but it’s not even worth paying slightly more for a private room. There were two things that made this worth shifting to an actual hotel and paying far more: 1. It was hot. This building is not cooled even slightly, and not even the small crack in the windows can offer respite from the stagnant warm air. I swear through my clothes during the night and I’m a typically a very cold sleeper. I feel sorry for my partner who sleeps warm. 2. Cleanliness is non-existent. Shared bathrooms usually aren’t the cleanest, but the rooms themselves appears to have not really been cleaned. The floor is as sticky as you feel from the heat and it doesn’t really help you feel clean to shower.

Fantastic location downtown. Stayed for two weeks with my husband and daughter in a quad room. The rooms are dorm style so don’t expect fancy and bring a fan because the rooms can get hot (we travel here with a tower fan). The roof top has amazing views of the city and there are 2 bbq on the roof. Be sure to travel with some basic dishes, pots, pans, and utensils if you plan to cook. This is our second year staying here and it’s a great affordable option.

I was on a budget and luckily I found this place. Yes it was a residence but after traveling south I wasn't expecting the Hilton. Yes its hot in the rooms and no issues with the washroom facilities at all. The staff were the best !! And a great location for my needs. I would certainly stay here again. Thanks NWH for everything

I stayed 1night and 1night a week later. ✅Good: City’s view is nice, and near grocery stores and metro, good location. Good for “low budget” in downtown. Fridge in the kitchen. ❌Bad: Terrible checkin time 4pm 😰. The bathrooms are dirty always with human hair all the times and everywhere. “Kitchen” no 🍽️, and no simple microwave… no liquid hand soap (just the restroom)

You really get what you pay for at this place. The rooms are tiny and hot, with no AC, they smell damp, and house keeping stole my friend's Nike sandals while we were out for the day! There is a cool view of the city from the roof, but all in all, do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

Typically I do not write comments. However, my stay was terrible... I previously dismissed negative comments thinking people were exaggerating or had overly high expectations. Had very low expectations as I am a student afterall and had previously stayed in hostels too. There was Doritos on the floor and the shower was clogged. My last straw was seeing hair on the bed and evidence of past bed bugs infestation (not sure if it's a current infestation as I couldn't confirm). Do not recommend people to stay here. There are other better accomodations even at this price point ( only booked this because I need a place which had a late hour check in). Worse of all, hotel seemed to try to charge my card after I checked out ( fortunately I blocked it). Not sure if because I complained or because it was a genuine mistake.

Best hostel I've stayed in! Very kind staff, room was fine and the options for single or more beds was a great surprise! The roof top is a little lacking in seats and shade but the view at night is spectacular for the price! Will definitely come back in the future!

It's a great-value hotel for both students and the youths who want to find some safe small rooms in the city center. There is satisfying breakfast. It's great to travel to Toronto by staying here.

Service and location are great, just know it’s literally a dorm. The fan in the window is your AC, shared bathrooms, mystery liquids on your chair, etc. If you’re looking to feel like you’re in uni again, you’ve found it.

Rooms are in a student residence and grouped according to pods - 5 rooms to a pod. Each pod shares a bathroom and kitchen. Worked wonderfully well.. Service at the front desk was a outatanding. For example, super fatigued i discovered just moments after checking in that i had forgotten my phone in the cab which had just dropped me off. I mentioned this to staff and without hesitating they went to task at helping me find a way to resolve the issue ... and we did. Amazing. Will never forget it.

Neil Wycik Hotel somewhat falls short in meeting expectations, specifically in their handling of company credit cards. The check-in process was not seamless as one would expect from an established hotel. As someone visiting on a business trip and staying at the hotel on the company’s dime, I found that the hotel had difficulty in processing the company credit card. This caused an unnecessary delay and posed an inconvenience. Hotels should facilitate and ensure that their business guests have an efficient and trouble-free experience. Furthermore, it was disconcerting to realize that I needed to inform staff when I needed access to my room. While staff was available to assist, this set-up hampered the sense of privacy and autonomy, which is crucial for a hotel stay.

probably the best deal you can get in Toronto: clean private rooms and breakfast for a fraction of what you pay in other hotels

I usually don’t leave bad reviews for places, but this was one of the worst hostels I’ve ever stayed in. The staff was fine, but the rooms were absolutely not clean — there was a layer of grime over the floors and surfaces, and the bathrooms were really gross. There are also outlets that have no covers, holes in walls that are pretty big and full of dirt and dust, and the showers look like the only cleaning they get is a very quick wipe down — which sucks when you’re sharing two bathrooms for up to 16 people. If you’re COVID conscious at all, find a different place. We slept on top of the sheets because, despite the open window, we could not get cool, and, honestly, because this is the most worried about bed bugs I’ve ever been staying at a hostel. There were no mattress covers or fitted sheets on the beds - just a sheet tucked around it that was slightly too small to get around the full mattress. If we hadn’t gotten in at midnight, we would have desperately tried to find a new place to stay. In fact, we DID desperately try to find a new place to stay before resigning ourselves to potentially getting bed bugs and definitely getting a bad night of sleep. The breakfast was apples and crushed croissants that we didn’t stay for. They may put out more later (about 20 min after it started), and if the sleep had been better we probably would have eaten the breakfast and been fine. As far as hostel breakfasts go, it was pretty standard. We just spent four days in the woods in Algonquin just north of Toronto, and this was the grossest place we slept the whole trip. Find another place — Planet Traveller is pretty close by and not that much more expensive.

The 2 stars are for the reception and breakfast staff. The missing 3 stars relates to unclean bathroom, awful bed linen and excessive noise from the main road.

Despite having the slight feel of a prison, and being very basic, this student dorm offers exceptional value and an unbeatable location. And the view from the 22nd story deck is pretty sweet too.

What kind of business are you guys running? No one answers the phone, and you're lucky if you get an email response withing 5 days. Absolutely unacceptable if you're going to be catering to student housing.

  • 5/5 Gábor R. 4 years ago on Google
Compared to the price it's really good. You get your own room with shared bathroom and washroom. There are kitchens on each floor (but there's no dishes). Great location! Few minutes walk from the important places. Perfect for backpackers!
