Two of us dined here on Wednesday night and it was everything it was advertised to be. Simple French elegance with attention to detail. We had escargot as a starter and a special cheese plate. This will comfortably feed two and can be either an appetizer or enjoyed as a desert with a nice wine. The escargot was good. The cheese plate (special on the menu) was spectacular. The most memorable part of the meal. It’s was that good. Order one for two people. It’s about $28.00 and worth every cent. That good. We both had steak frites (ribeye) and it was melt in your mouth good with a nice peppercorn sauce for dipping. The steak was incredibly falvourful. Desert was nice (crème brûlée and chocolate mouse) but not the best I’ve had in the city of Toronto. My suggestion, skip desert, order the cheese and pair with a nice wine. Then sit back and enjoy it slowly on the patio. Lastly. We had the most amazing server. She looked after so well. Incredibly attentive, moved us to a better seat on the patio and incredibly friendly, professional and upbeat. This is a place to put on your list. They deliver an all round great package.

Must get tartare WITH fries!!! Probably can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. It’s a tight menu and everything is prepared to perfection. The cook on the ribeye was beautiful. If you get there before 18:30 you’ll likely skip the waitlist (first come, first serve) in the summer as they have so much seating with their outdoor space. Everyone who works here is all smiles and the service was marvellous. Also, the filthy martinis were fire. We had SO much fun!!

4.7/5 Simplicity at its best. The food here is delicious and very reasonably priced. We started with the Oysters and Escargot, and shared the Prime Ribeye for a main. The ribeye was cooked to perfection served with a side of seasoned vegetables and a smashed potato. The food is simple yet mouthwatering. Wow. The host and sever were wonderful and attentive. They don’t take reservations so I suggest visiting earlier in the week if you don’t want to wait. We’ll definitely be back!

The beef tartare is a must. It was easily my favorite dish. Service-wise, the staff was really proactive and responsive. Despite being walk-in only, this spot is a great Ossington experience.

This is the easiest 5star rating I have ever given. The everything about this place is exceptional. Based on other reviews, we went early not to compete with other dinner-goers and got their last table and it wasn’t not yet 6pm. During our 90 minute stay, we saw countless people be turned away or wait listed. The restaurant also a acts as a butcher and loads of folx were there to grab a few steaks. The atmosphere was well decorated, rustic and pleasant. We sat at a barrel table, which wasn’t all that comfortable and our Bottoms were sore by the end of our meal. The steak was one of the best steaks I have had in my entire life and the rest of our table felt the same. Everything else was pretty great too! We can’t wait to go back!

Delicious food, wine, and service! Prime rib was insanely good. 10/10. Potatoes it comes with had the steak juices + crispy. Delicious. Escargot was yummy but the dish shape isn’t deep enough to hold all the butter so there isn’t much bread dipping (it’s not like the keg). Asparagus & Burrata salad was sooooo good. So tasty light flavourful. I would come back here for sure!

An exceptional and authentic French bistro with groceries (cheeses, steaks, wine). Always an exciting place to visit anytime of day. Their takeaway sandwiches are a secret but legendary, and sell out daily. Chef’s table available for reservations, everything else is walk in only. Dozens of superb wines by the glass, and all the usual classics. Daily specials defy imagination and ignite passions. Excellent service and management. Arrive early and be prepared to wait.

I love the home-y kitchen vibe inside. It’s an intimate space perfect for date night. We only got two small items but holy smokes were they good. The snails were so buttery and garlicky and cooked really well. The show stopper was the potatoes with salmon roe. The potatoes had this crispy outside protecting a creamy and smooth mashed potato inside. We live just a few steps from Côte de Bœuf and needed to give it a try even though we don’t eat meat. We thought this would probably be the only time we enter the establishment due to our dietary restrictions… I was wrong. We will 100% be back for these potatoes.

Dropped in during the weekday and we were so lucky to get a table without waiting at all even though the restaurant is not too spacious. The best beef tartare ever had by far in Toronto! The raw beef was mariated so well with flavorful sauce and it amazed me so much with fresh toasts. Also the dryer aged beef steak was incredibly crispy outside with juicy and tender fat in the middle. The overall texture of the meat was impressive with truffle cream! Servers were friendly and attentive. We were so delighted to the recommendations by the server. The seasonal special Octopus and asparagus are definitely worthy of trying!

It's really so, so good here. It's intimate, cozy, and romantic- good vibes all around. The quality of the food is really amazing- such good meat! Very knowledgable and present service. Only drawback is that you can't make reservations, which is not the end of the world because they would be booked out until forever. Can't wait to go back.

They do not take reservation. You put down your name on a waiting list and they will call you when your table is ready. (I think they do accept reservations for group of 6 if you are trying the butchers table menu) No bar area for us to hangout for a drink while we wait. They do have a somewhat heated patio and we opened a bottle of red while we wait. The restaurant is very small, cozy, intimate and romantic. Perfect for a date night. Most of the food we ordered are okey. The beef tartare really stands out and it’s one of the best I have had in Toronto. Nice balance of flavour and the baguette is drizzled with duck fat and bake to perfection.

We had such a phenomenal experience at Côte de Bœuf from start to finish. The staff were so warm and friendly. Thank you for the hospitality you showed our family; chatting with us like we were new friends. The wine list was surprisingly extensive. We enjoyed a delicious red from Cote du Rhône. A wonderful pairing for some of the best steak I've ever had. What makes it 10/10, is that caramelized crust, flaky salt, that it's cooked to perfection, and buttery, tender texture! The roasted veg were also well made, that I'd happily order them as a meal all their own! I'd definitely return on our next celebration.

The Bottomline: Don't be fooled by my photos. Lathering any food with butter doesn't necessarily make a dish French. I spent a lot of time travelling in France and this restaurant over charges you for meat and an overload of butter. Please find a different French restaurant in the city - just because they don't take reservations doesn't mean the food is worth the clout and your dollars. $ spent for 2 persons: $240 w. tax and tip Appetizers: * 1/2 oysters - served at room temperature, freshness was debatable. I ended up only eating one as it had an odd taste. * bone marrow - it was the most horrible marrow I ever tasted. It tasted like blood or boiled blood that you skim off the top of a broth. It was disgusting - it was the first time I had to run to the bathroom to spit out precious marrow. Mains: * NY Striploin - cooked like it was Chicago style. It was so gamey and hard on the outside. The fries were soggy and cold. There was also excess butter on the side, like why? It won't help a subpar dish. * Prime Rib - also served almost room temperature. The truffle butter won't even melt. The sides were also salty. We didn't order dessert - we figured if they can't make their main dishes well, then there's no hope for their dessert. I've been meaning to visit this restaurant and safe to say we don't plan on coming back.

Charming little bistro with a cute vibe and delicious food. We tried the steak frites and it was definitely worth the hype. The actual meat was a significant portion, seasoned and flavourful. And the frites were perfectly salty, little bites of heaven. We also tried their special of comté cheese burger. That dish was so good and also came with those heavenly fries. The vibe is very cozy and charming. You don’t feel on Ossington anymore, it really takes you to a french bistro. Also helps that they had a wide selection of wines and select cocktails.

Heard so many good things about this place I had high expectations and it did not disappoint. Beautiful small intimate spot with a short and simple menu. Everything was spot on, definitely try the tartar and steak and frites. The waiters Luke and Felix were so nice they made us some great cocktails, might be a new regular spot!

My favourite spot Ossington, definitely in my top 5 across the city. The atmosphere is unbeatable, the food is rich and to die for (their steaks are obviously the specialty so I suggest bringing a friend to tackle that monstrosity!). Every time I’m in the neighbourhood, I try my luck to get seating, sometimes I’m lucky enough to do so and those days usually end with a smile spread ear to ear and an appetite that’s been well satisfied and craving for the next rendezvous at this cute bistro!

Overall not as good as I expected… The cote de boeuf which shows 48oz on the menu and per the name I assumed it supposed to be their signature dish, but the weight includes the huge bone and a lot of fat, almost 2 entire slices of the steak were pure fat and uneatable (#1 pic), so the real steak that can be enjoyed is prob around 20oz…. I would rather order two 10oz steaks which would cost a lot less. Taste of the steaks were not bad but definitely haven’t gotten to a steakhouse standard. (Based on the 2 steaks that we ordered) Potato for the cote de boeuf was flavourless. Escargot was way too old. However, Beef tartare was amazing, one of the best I’ve ever had. Would come back just for this. Service was good, servers were flexible and were able to accommodate our needs. Personally not a fan of their hard surface bar chair and tall tables, and the place is pretty crowded so people might need to settle for bar/outside to get seated

One of the best French eateries in Toronto. Despite the fact that the bistro does not take bookings, it is always at capacity, which speaks volumes about the quality of the food and service. The dishes were thoughtfully crafted and paired perfectly with great wine. The snails, pate, and aged meats were all exceptional. Note, if you plan on trying the tasting menu, keep in mind that it requires a minimum of six guests.

This place is just magical. Great ambiance, friendly service and beef was top notch. I still dream about their beef tartare. My husband and I waited over an hour for our table on a Friday evening but it was well worth it! We went to get ice cream and beer at the brewery next door so the wait wasn’t bad at all.

One of the better steaks I’ve had in Toronto. We ordered the ribeye which comes with duck fat pan-fried potatoes, root veggies and truffle butter on top. Was fantastic. Cooked well but it was the dry-age flavour and the crust that really made it special. The asparagus and Barrera salad and the escargot were also top notch. Great meal.

Tried out this place and it was great! We had the steak frites and it had so much flavour. The place has indoor dining and a patio that you can eat. You can also buy cuts of meat if you'd like. Great food, great staff, great atmosphere, I'll be coming back again for sure!

Finally got to try this place, I now understand why it’s always difficult to get a table. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is everything. Would recommend to anyone who wants a good steak at a reasonable price

Had a great dinner here today. We got the tartare and steak frites to share, and it was plenty for the two of us. The food was amazing. Unfortunately, we did find a piece of hair in our tartare, but they were quick to get us a new one.

Great lunch experience. It's a small restaurant that serves excellent food. Everything I ate was yummy. I don't think they take reservations so I'd recommend coming before peak hours. I will definitely come back.

Worth Trying, Would Recommend. Bustling French Bistro in the heart of Toronto, expensive but focused good quality plates and decent wine/drinks menu. Steak Frites - Perfectly executed. Love the garlic aioli. Love the thickness of steak. Steak Tartare - bread is too heavy on the olive oil. Tartare has no tang or mustard, and the meat is unevenly cut with large chewy chunks. Outside Top 10. Expect $60+pp. I think the duck would also be very nice, so next time! Takes AMEX. Follow @trebzheng for more :)

It was a great experience! 10/10 Will definitely be going back for more! We tried the Smoked Salmon, Asparagus and Arugula salad with Burrata, The Cote De Boeuf and Chocolate mousse

Cute and intimate dinner date spot for French cuisine. Escargot a bit oily and overly salty and not a huge fan of the steak but the Brie was great. Service was good but a bit off and drinks are okay. Not insanely expensive but would expect a bit more for the price; wouldn’t choose to come back here but would be happily return if someone wanted to go.
