I wanted to like this hostel. The location was perfect and the price was good. The place has a cute older vibe on the outside but looks relatively updated when you walk in. The kitchen is large with 3 fridges and lots of storage for food. The bunks were nice and sturdy with comfy beds. Unfortunately the building is falling apart when you look below the surface. The window in our room (room 3) needs replacing, it was letting in a major draft making the room very cold. Small heaters were provided but tripped the breaker on several occasions, once in the middle of the night. I had noticed mold in the bathroom and overall not overly clean in the corners. Seems like the cleaners just did surface level cleaning. Then the bathroom started leaking from the ceiling. At first a few drips, but after we got back from being out, it was unusable. Steady dripping and the ceiling was falling in. By next morning it was completely falling apart. A man came in the room without even knocking it announcing he was coming in to assess the situation. We were given an alternative bathroom to use in the basement but it clearly wasn't meant for guests. If we hadn't asked for a different room, I doubt we would have been offered it but upon asking, the staff tight away told us we could have a private room for our last night. Hopefully they can get some proper repairs done. Then this place would be great

Rooms were OK but most of the staff people were surprisingly rude sometimes, some others were friendly, none of them explained me anything about breakfast or kitchen, they just gave me the keys. Breakfast was not so good actually and water pressure was good. I liked that it was pretty close to almost everything in downtown, great location except for the park in front of it which is pretty sketchy and dark. Not like a park where you would hang out. I Wouldn't come back, it's easy to guess why it is cheap

I lived in Toronto for 8 years and I have to tell you with this inflation going on, the hostel offer an unbeatable price for a clean nice bed, prime location and overall pretty good fertilities. I brought my own linen but didn’t need to use it as the hostel comes with good one. Female doom (4 ppl) is spacious and with independent bathroom. Happy with this short stay.

When we entered our room (#16), we were hit with the smell of chemicals from two Glade Plug-ins. The air, sheets, pillowcases, and towels were all permeated with the smell. We opened the back door (there were no windows that opened), changed the sheets and pillowcases, and did everything we did to get rid of the stench. My eyes burned, and my fiance had a scent allergy, so she felt nauseous and dizzy and got a headache (which was still present 18 hours later). We had to leave and book a last-minute, more expensive place to stay. We asked for a refund but were denied as we cancelled within the hostel's stated cancellation window (not sure how that was possible as we weren't aware the room was going to smell of a chemical factory). Nice staff, though.

I stayed November 2022. The room I was staying in had NO heat source. I was there for three days. When I got there the room was about 10 degrees inside. I went back to the reception and asked if the heat was broken and they said they have been getting complaints for a month and all he could do was offer me another blanket (not to fix it, not to put me in a different room). I told them I would try it one night but if it didn't help I would not stay there the remainder of my trip. It was freezing the first night with three blankets and my jacket on to sleep. I had looked around the room and it isn't even a problem that the heat source was broken. THERE IS NO HEAT SOURCE AT ALL in the exterior walled room. The next night when I returned to the hostel, there was a small space heater in the room. Apparently the other 7 occupants were also complaining about the heat and that was their fix. It did work for the second night. The last day when I returned to the hostel at night they added a second space heater but they had blown a fuse so now the room was freezing and had no power. They fixed the fuse within 30 minutes of me mentioning it to them, but they removed a heater to not blow it again, so it was cold in the room again. With one heater it may have been about 12-14 degrees. Beyond this, there are no lockers in the room. There are small safe boxes which were all broken and the wifi didn't reach the room even though we were directly above the reception area. Pros: the room was clean enough and the location was fantastic, right downtown in the entertainment area.

I had to pay 15 CAD for being "too late" (arrived at 9:30 pm instead of 9 pm). they just charged my credit card.. Rooms were ok but nothing special.. staff is impolite: even though they have a tv-room with really old sat through couches you're not allowed to sit there crosslegged (with socks, not shoes of course).. Sorry but this seems like a joke. Staff is rude and not willing to help. wouldn't recommend to go there. the mood is strange..

I was there in November for just one night. The location is excellent, the breakfast is ok, but the place is not welcoming and waiting for some help from the staff to carry the luggage to the room is something non-existent. Cordiality is lacking. Something I was very upset about was being charged CAD 15 for arriving at 10:20 pm. The next morning, the employee explained to me that there was this rule, but before making the reservation, this was not written. He said it would be refunded to my card, but there was no refund. I will never set foot there again.

‏ It's better to stay somewhere further, even if you’re looking for the cheapest price!! staff was nice and helpful. The location was pretty good. ‎‏bummer, there is no washing machine as they mention on the website. uncomfortable bed was absolutely horrible, the sheets were dirty too.

The room was really cold during my stay there. When I asked for a blanket, the front desk staff refused and said he just turned up the heat and it should warm up soon. But later when another girl in my room went to talk to them, she was told that there is no heating in this room because it’s a really old building. The room never warmed up during the night. I had to sleep with all my clothes on plus a down jacket and scarf. Luckily I only had to stay there for one night.

Location, location, location! This place is perfect if you are traveling and want to spend the night around Old Toronto or if you simply want to stay within a walkable distance from the train/bus station. Beds are very comfortable, washroom was good too. I didn't even notice I could have something for breakfast when booking the bed, so I was happy when staff told me I could count on some fruits, bread and coffee before leaving!

Going to keep it short and sweet. My expectations for a hostel are pretty low, and yet this place managed to disappoint. Rude employees, mice running around, disgusting showers, and located across from a homeless camp. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $50 per night for a proper stay.

Hostels tend to get a bad rep, but honestly I loved my stay here. Each room locks, it has a door lock for the main doors as well. Room was clean, beds cozy, breakfast included (a welcomed surprise)- parking was out of the way so it felt comfortable to leave the car there during out stay- honestly it was a great price for the private room and it was worth it 100%. Easy to locate, close to the CN Tower for those who want to tourist around~ Will recommend again and definitely consider this for things like convention visits as well!!

I love the location close to downtown. It's a few streets away from Front St West which leads to the major places. I love the homely feel of it. The reception/waiting area is very clean and looked welcoming. The rooms were a good size and had curtains. I met all my expectations including distance to downtown Toronto. It's about 10-15 minutes walk to Union station depending on your pace, it's less than 5 minutes to the Blue Jays Shop Stadium. About 7-10 minutes away from Ripley's Stadium and CN tower. I'll say great value for money for a place near Downtown Toronto.

Stayed for 3 nights in total at this place. It’s in a nice location with an unconnected bar next door. The hostel staff are so lovely and accommodating. The shower was hot and powerful, and they provide towels. Unfortunately there is no lift/elevator! It was cold in the room, especially on the top bunks near the windows. I would recommend this place overall.

This may be the best hostel I've ever stayed in! I can't speak for the other rooms but the 4-bed female dorms were great. Beds were comfy and had wrap-around curtains for privacy, and the floors and bathroom were both cleaned every day. Common areas are cozy and the kitchen was kept very clean. Rules and security were all clear and clearly enforced by the staff, which gave me peace of mind as a solo female traveler. Overall I'm thoroughly impressed with this place! Definitely the most affordable way to stay in downtown Toronto.

Great location and the security guard and staff member that helped me the night of check-in and afternoon of check-out were so friendly, thorough, and accommodating! The location is very central and close to everything! The rooms are fairly small, but I can't complain since I had a semi-private bathroom (shared with 1 other person) and a little terrace right by our door! It's an old building with no elevator (that I noticed) so just be wary of that if you're carrying large luggage and are staying on the upper floors)

Great location and pleasant staff working at this hostel. Minutes away from Rogers Centre and plenty of parking available. Front desk completed the check-in in a timely manner and was helpful. Common areas are well maintained, but the bedrooms and washrooms could be updated. The bathroom was very messy. Lots of noise from the exterior as there is a bar next door. Bed was also very uncomfortable. Saw bed bugs during my stay. Booked for 2 days, spent at most 7 hours in the hostel. A set of rules or regulations would go a long way, as there was a lack of respect amongst travellers. I had my bed taken by someone else while I was out and had no where to store a small backpack as others had an incredible amount of luggage. The affordable price and location were my reasons for choosing this hostel, although next time I would look elsewhere for accommodations. 3 stars for clean common areas and pleasant staff.

The hostel itself is fine, kinda ok structure but with nothing special in it. The staff is kind and helpful, but the square right in front of the hostel is not in a very good shape but that's not a hostel problem. I do believe that they could equip the rooms a little more so everyone can have a really safe place to keep its luggage.

Not a party hostel which is good, beds generally clean and comfortable. Bathrooms not so clean, service, meh. Staff didn't explain anything about the kitchen or breakfast, just gave me the room key and that's it. Breakfast is only 2 hours, and is basic: cereal, bananas, toast, coffee and tea. The infused water/agua fresca was nice. Luggage storage available. Location is good, 12 min walk to UP Express (Union station), 15 min down to the lake, and 5 to the main streets with trams.

People have been waiting at reception for over an hour. There are on-duty and off-duty staff that won’t help. I have spoken to three staff members who have been incredibly rude. I thought the security guard was going to start a fight with me. There are 9 people in line, no one helping. Two people finally went to a different hotel because no one is here checking people in. I would pass it off as just a one time thing, but I’ve been trying to get people to help me all day and I’ve been told to come back later 3 times. I had food go missing from the fridge right around cleaning time and of course no one will speak to their cleaning staff about it. Worst hostel I have ever been too

Good location, the four bed dorm was very spacious and equipped with curtains as well. The included breakfast is simple as expected, but nice to have! Only the kitchen was underequipped and not very clean.

The single room was clean but the walls were so thin you could hear people enter/ leave all night. No AC / very loud fan / no possibility to open windows (dodgy park with lots of tents right before might explain that). In general not a very friendly vibe on all accounts: No staff explanations about breakfast or knowledge of advocated tours. Even the guests hardly talk/greet eachother. The breakfast kitchen sign is basically "threatening" you to start your day (video surveillance, you'll get thrown out without refund if you don't clean). Even if you have strong budget / location reasons to go, id consider other options.

Your money could be spent better elsewhere. When we arrived, they had lost our reservation. Our beds were given to someone else. But we had confirmed the day before our late check in, the payment was made that same morning on my credit card and we had all the necessary information needed (reservation number and all). But they couldn't find our reservation and our name. They gave us a first room which was or wasn't empty (nobody knew, quite the mystery) but just two hours later the real occupants of the room arrived (very awkward for everybody). We had to move to the lobby downstairs in pyjamas, half asleep, tired from our journey and with all our luggage. So at three in the morning they separated us in three different rooms in three different buildings (!) to sleep in mixed dorms with strangers. As young women, we did not felt safe in this situation. We did our best not to disturb the other occupant of the rooms when we went to sleep. The unfortunate thing is that they are refusing to reimbursed us for that night where we got no sleep. We paid to sleep together, not to sleep with strangers... They feel that because we had the right room the next day, we don't deserve the financial compensation. But why should we pay for their poor management? We only ask to be reimbursed for the first night. The free breakfast is barely meeting the criteria to be called breakfast, but better than nothing; The place could be cleaner (gross shower, stain on the beds, could use a good dusting…); Customer service is truly lacking. Even if they don't lose your reservation, you might find someone in your bed at two am. I'm sure you can find better.

I was there with 25 of my students from Argentina. The location was great, the rooms were comfortable and the ladies at the reception were very kind. The only problem we had was the bar under my room that had the music full blast every night till midnight!!!! Aside from that, we were very grateful for everything during our 2 week stay. Thanks for everything

even though they had replied by email directly, they claimed at first to not have my booking and blamed it on booking.com. when a manager showed up they found my booking but it had never been assigned a bed by them. took them half an hour just to book me in. put me in a room full of people living there which was so cluttered and dirty I literally had to clear a spot just to put my bang down on the floor. Another person in the room made phone call at 5:30 am speaking loudly. She was a long term resident and should have known to be considerate of those sleeping so early. staff just shrug this off justifying it as acceptable dorm activity. The hostel posts strict rules in regards to the kitchen as that affects them but don't care what goes on in the dorms as that only affects other guests. Guests expect others in a shared room to respect that it is a shared room. If they want to behave like they are in a private room than they should get a private room not expect the other guests to put up with bad behavour and justify it because it is a dorm. Good behaving guests should not be made to feel like THEY are the ones who need to leave, especially by staff.

I mean ya get what you pay for. I didn’t really feel safe here but that’s more of a me thing as I’ve never stayed in a dorm situation before. Because there were other people in the room I didn’t want to leave my things unattended so I ended up carrying them around with me all day even though I had checked in mid afternoon. The space is clean for the most part which is the biggest thing for me; I would suggest bringing your own towel and pillow cases as I didn’t feel comfortable putting my face on the pillow or using the towel which looked a bit dirty. The washrooms are equipped with hand soap, toilet paper, and a hair dryer which is appreciated but also is a reminder that you can’t forget to bring your own stuff. I think your experience will really vary based on the people bunking with you, which in my case were people endlessly shuffling around at midnight - not really sure what was going on but it was noisy and disruptive being on the bottom bunk and having someone shaking the whole thing on top. The beds at least have curtains for the bottom bunk so you have a tiny bit of privacy and nobody can watch you sleep lol. There wasn’t a power outlet available near the bed as it was being used by the air conditioning unit (which I am so thankful was there because the temp in the room was perfectly cool for this summer weather). The staff were friendly and helpful and I had no issues with booking, checking in, and checking out. Overall I think you just need to be mindful of what type of experience you’re looking for. From my time here, I’ve learned that I am now willing to pay extra for a hotel if it means I have privacy and the ability to make noise without feeling bad about disturbing my bunk mates!

Probably the best hostel in Toronto. Much better than the Parkdale Hostellerie where I stayed before. Really central, great friendly staff, really reasonable rates, lots of European travellers and good times with group excursions

I would put zero star if I could. I would love to talk about the experience because it looked like a great place, but there was no experience as the booking I made through Hostelworld months ago wasn’t taken into account. I was travelling with my parents and both my young kids and when we got there we were told very coldly that our rooms weren’t available and that they couldn’t do anything. I was given a email to contact hostelworld so that they could figure out the situation but obviously I’ve never had an answer from them and I had to find a room for 5 people on the very day. Needless to say that I paid far more than what was planned for a week-end. A curt “Sorry” was the only answer I received from the woman at the hostel but that’s not enough. You just don’t leave people like this even if Hostelworld are the one to blame according to them.

Gute Lage, 13 min.

Really nice place ! Everything was clean. You need to expect that everything is pretty much shared, but I mean for the price it's understandable. We had one person in our room that was really annoying, but it's the risk to take when you go to an hostel. If you are into hostel, you won't be disappointed !

Very nice hostel. Clean room. Bed was really low as there was no box springs. NOT handicapped accessible. Friendly staff. There is a loud bar patio directly outside building and you have to walk through it to get to door. Bring your own shampoo/conditioner, soap, and washcloths as they aren't provided.

For a 2 nights stay, this has been my honest review about this hostel: *ROOMS* - The structure is okay, smells old (need air freshener). It's just too noisy and you can hear every step from people coming in/out or walking to/from the other rooms. Ventilation is good with heater/AC (Apt 10 Room 20). The bed was a double decker with privacy curtains which is awesome. Rate: 4/5 stars *SERVICE* - It really depends on the staff on duty. There is a free breakfast every AM that will be serve until 10AM only. JUst simple, nothing fancy. Tea, Coffee, Bread, Jams, butter. When it comes to food, you can always order or bringing in outside food is absolutely okay but always eat in the common area dining room. The totality of service rate is 3.5/5 *LOCATION* - amazing! walking distance from almost everything. Restaurant 24/7 like A&W and more are just a few minutes walk outside the hostel. When it comes to the vicinity, SAFETY is so-so because of the fact that the are is a public park and it is where majority of the homeless are around that area. When you go out by night, just have a double precaution. Bars are left and right and so just watch your back when you are passing by coz patrons of the bars can be short-tempered or drunk. Ratings: 5/5 *STAFF* - some are nice, majority are rude!!! The check in counter staff who wears dark coloured lipsticks and the night security that has been 101% extremely R-U-D-E. People ask questions and they don't answer them right away Rate: 1/5

Don't get tricked by the location. This place is an unsafe and very loud nightmare. I did not sleep the whole night because of a very poor management. They have rules for guests to keep a silence at night, but nobody knows about that and they are not enforced Finding the same place with an adequate management would be a much better decision

My experience here has not been great. To start with, they did not have the reservation we booked months ago with Hostelworld. They were nice enough to try to figure this out for us and got us a room, and said they were going to just give us and extra bed to put in the room (they placed a mattress on the floor, it's also the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in). Also, the bar next door is so loud you might as well stay up until they close. The parking which they advertised as $15 a day was not accurate at all, it actually varies on the weekend and the depends on any events happening near by. Overall this has not been a good experience.

I love the central location!! Nancy one of the Associates working at the Clarence Park was exceptional!!! Nancy was incredibly caring, thoughtful and helpful to my requests particularly with parking, by far my biggest concern! She went above and beyond and I can't thank her enough! I just wish there wasn't so much inconsistency and disorder regarding the parking situation at the back of the hostel because I would've loved to have had my parking request booked and guaranteed well before I stayed. It was quite stressful and worrisome the weeks/days leading up to my stay. No fault to Nancy as she did everything she could and then some once I arrived! Just hoping the parking area can be seriously sorted out in the near future, so that Associates like Nancy do not have be bothered with such problems and inconveniences. It all worked out in the end all thanks to Nancy's care and brilliance! This care and the thoughtfulness that she had shown towards me throughout my stay will be the main reason why I will return! Thank you Nancy sincerely for all of your patience and understanding, much appreciated!!!:)

It's a nice cute place with a kitchen, living room and if you go outside, you can see the CN tower. The staffs were nice and the people in the room were considerate. My room and washroom was clean and the temperature was good (June). I stayed only one night and I very much enjoyed my stay. I guess it depends on other clients if you have a bad stay but mine was good. Thank you for having me on such short notice (booked it 15 minutes before showing hahaha)

The room was clean. It did not have the type of beds that were advertised (double and twin), rather it simply had two twin beds. The room seemed clean regardless. The room was surprisingly quiet except for the sound of a mouse or rat chewing through the walls around 6:30am. Thankfully it didn't make it to our room during our stay. We didn't use the kitchen or lounge area but it looked faulty clean and pleasant. Since it's a hostel I'm sure your mileage may vary depending on who happens to be there. Great location downtown!

Stayed for two nights. No major complaints. I liked how it had privacy curtains around the bed and I had my own wall outlet. The whole hostel was clean and roomy. The wifi did not work in my room tho. Also my bed was harder than I’m used to at home. That’s ok tho. Small complaints.

I really recommend this hostel. The people are very very kind, always prone to helping you. The beds were quiet and room was okay. Washroom was also clean and no mayor complaints. I only stayed 1 night but the shared spaces seemed really cozy and full of amenities!

I am quite conflicted on this one. I think your experience may massively vary according to the room that you get. In my case, I am sorry to tell everyone that my experience was less than ideal. I got Room 10 next to a courtyard/patio where residents can hang out and opposite to a building in construction - my first night there there was a constant of people loud until 1am, plus construction (or machine work noise at least) continuing until 2.30am... with the issue that the window didn't really fully close. The window issue didn't get resolved by my 3rd and last night there, so it wasn't really restful. The hostel also hosts a share fare of long-term residents, some of whom are at the very least interesting... I was sharing a room with a guy in his late 30s, clearly not working and always smoking pot, who left empty cans around the room. It wasn't really what I expected, which is a pity, as I really wanted to like that place. So if you want to have a good rest guaranteed and you can afford something better, I would certainly avoid this place and go elsewhere.

Central location near the hub of downtown, only 6 stops on the street car until Union or a 10min walk to St Andrew's TTC. Private rooms are neat + spacious and we felt this was good value for money. Good security with access code entry. WiFi worked well. Staff don't seem too interested in their guests. No milk at breakfast and they didn't care to replace it once reported. Really small towels for showers.

The staff is rude and they didn’t care about having a good communication with the guests. They didn’t answer my questions and didn’t helped me with my needs. The rooms were dirty, the towels and sheets were stained. The place is super noisy, there’s a bar beside and they play loud music all night long. Impossible to rest. I really regret booking this place.

Really nice room, very clean and comfortable. Nice view of the CN tower. Unfortunately was awoken constantly from other patrons slamming the main doors all night and talking loudly right outside our room on the front steps. Seems like the other guests just didn’t have any consideration or maybe the doors need to be fixed so they don’t shut so hard. Staff seems ok.

The staff were great, location is good. The pictures online must be pretty old because the rooms are a lot more dated than they look online. Overall a bit expensive for what you get. The room definitely had a draft coming in which I am sure gets pretty cold in the winter but wasn't too bad in April.

Very clean and accommodating. The staff is welcoming and the other guests were fun to be around. The location is great as it is walking distance from CN tower, aquarium and is well connected to downtown and restaurants.

I got the so called "deluxe queen room", and for the price that I paid I expected more. The floors were dusty and dirty like they haven't been vacuumed for a while, there was water damage marks and cracks on the wall and ceiling, and there was no soap or shampoo on the bathroom. For the shared rooms I understand not having it, but for a room for my self it should be expected, especially for a room that costs $145 per night. Service could've also been better, the staff was konda rude. Only good thing about the hotel is the convenient location, but the area can get pretty sketchy at night. Unless you're on a really tight budget, do yourself a favor and book somewhere else.
