Let’s be realistic: this is one of the cheapest places to stay in downtown Toronto. I booked a room here for this fact alone. There’s nothing luxury about it at all, it’s as basic as basic can be. Positives: the employee who served me at check-in was welcoming. It’s a good location. Private room was a decent size. It’s cheap. Negatives: I arrived at 10am and wanted to drop off my bag before check-in, the office was closed until 2pm and nobody answered my phone calls (unacceptable!!), so I had to walk around for 4 hours in the snow with my luggage. My room was ice cold, the heating was atrocious. The bathroom stunk. This place is the epitome of budget accommodation. You really do get what you pay for. Don't bring any expectations with you if you choose to stay here.

WORST HOSTEL I've ever been. Misinformation on the website: arrival after 10pm is not possible at all and they won't let you know until last minute, when you possibly have to book another hotel for that same night. Wrong information: while they claim to have reception hours from 10:30 or 11am until 8pm, it is a lie. During the four nights we stayed there, no one was in reception after 6pm and there were a couple of normal working days that nobody showed up until 2pm. Security is AWFUL. The second day we found a homeless man sleeping in the only available female showers of our floor. NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL.

I booked this hostel with two friends. We caught an afternoon flight to Toronto from Vancouver, so we got in late. To prepare for this I called and emailed them about 7 hours before we got there. When we got there, around midnight, there was no one at the front desk. We phoned in again and no one came to answer the phone. We knocked on the door and no one would answer. We ended up waiting 20 minutes before we left to find another hostel. What kind of hostel doesn’t have someone who can greet late guests? I’m aware that their front desk is closed at 8 hence why I phoned them, but there is no excuse for not answering the phone. Would not recommend booking here.

Let me tell you how my stay was. I booked for 1 week but I stayed 3days. The shared facilities are very dirty (especially the showers). But at that price I wasn't expecting much. What I wasn't expecting at all is to be stuck outside: I cam back on my third evening with my keycard and see that it does not open my room. So I go downstairs in order to tell the person in charge: nobody is present. Then I just spend the next 4 hours trying to reach the manager who never answered. There was another guy waiting to check-in, he had had the manager on the phone one hour before saying he would pass by to check him in. The manager never showed up that night. The other guy was consciously left out in the street, and he had payed! Can you imagine such an irresponsible and unprofessional manager? Nobody in in charge or answering, so anything can happen in such a place, if you have a problem, nobody is here. Please never book in that place. I had to climb up the first floor in order to get to my room. I left the next morning. No refunds, of course

Don’t book here. We arrived at 12:00am, after letting them know by phone and email our estimated check-in time, only to be greeted by closed doors. Doors were locked, no one was there, and no one picked up the phone. We had to walk around the area with heavy packs, with no other options. It was next to impossible to find a place at such a late hour. We finally checked into a hotel in North York (for double the price) at 4:00am.

Positive: This hostel is situated in a great location close Kensington Market with an abundance of asian restaurants around. Walking into the city centre is easy. Negative: It appears that no renovations have been done in years. Everything looks run-down. Our double room was on a floor with approx. 9 other rooms. For all of these rooms there was one men's toilet available (plus urinal). The toilet and showers had no paper towels to dry hands etc. Overall this hostel is not worth the stay!

I would give 0 star if I could. First of all, I booked a female-only dorm and got a mixed gender dorm. The girl at the reception was nice, but everyone else was rude and unhelpful. The bed was uncomfortable, and the ladies washroom on the 4th floor was broken so you either have to go to the men’s or go to another floor. The shower room is FILTHY. No soap or towel was provided so you must bring your own. The facility was extremely rundown. I have always had good experiences with hostels so I was expecting more for the same price. Do not stay here! You can pay a little bit more for a better stay.

Bathrooms and showers were very dirty. I didn’t expect much for the price, but there was a constant strong pee smell in the bathroom/marks on the floor for the duration of my stay. Lots of confined indoor spaces with little windows or ventilation. Wish there was more staffing of the front desk area. Very hard to get ahold of anyone outside of 2-8pm. Another nuisance was the loud slamming of doors. The door design itself seems to be the main issue, as well as uncourteous people. Bed and bedroom itself was fine for the price! Great location :) would not return though. Have been to much nicer hostels for similar price.

Honestly, I would avoid going back if possible. I am still upset about my stay. 1 - Their reception time starts at 1, despite what Google says. 2 - If you book via any other website than theirs you will always end up sleeping in a mixed dorm and you would probably even if you did ... 3- Even if you call 3 weeks in advance to reserve a parking spot and you talk to the manager you won't get it. 4 - Don't expect to get any arrangement for the inconvenience.. 5 - The location is good...

Really bad service. Booked in advance called him about the time never picked up the calls. The money was already sent. When arrived to the location before 8pm. He saw me never opened the door waited and told me he already gave the room away to someone else. He told that I should have arrived earlier. He still hasn't refunded my money $90 still.

Go to the "only backpackers inn" it's much better and they actually pick up the phone if you call them. These guys didn't answer the door nor did they pick up when I called to check in. Finally had to sleep on a bench outside. "No refunds" of course.. horrible experience. Don't waste your money here. You'll suffer twice.

I came here with low expectations, and I was still disappointed. I stayed in a private room, and I'll admit the view and location was great, but thats where the positives end. The bathroom had no hand soap or towels/paper towels, and while I was brushing my teeth I had to finish early because the drains began to overflow. The guy at the desk was ok, but overall experience was horrible that I had to leave early and find somewhere else to stay for the rest of my trip. Room was normal for the price I paid, but I at least expected the basics in the bathrooms.

Do not book! There are no staff, the main door is locked and no one is at the desk until 2pm, you can't store luggage, shared toilet and showers are inconveniently located, you can't flush toilet paper, the kitchen is disgusting, bad location near a community centre with people yelling in the street and you can hear everything, the whole place is dirty and not worth booking!

Maybe the worst hostel I've ever stayed in.. when we arrived at 10:30 pm (we told the Staff before that it's a late arrival), nobody opened up and we had to search for a new place to stay for this night. The next morning we came back and they told me that the transaction didn't go thru so they cancelled our booking - without telling us!! (Un-)luckily they had a cancellation, so that they could book us in again.. It just feels like nobody cares about this place.. the toilet stinks really badly like urine, the rooms are really dirty (better don't drop anything under the bed), there is almost no natural light in the rooms & the kitchen is just really dirty.. only the location is quiet nice. I can recommend the "planet traveller hostel" which is just 50m from here. There you'll pay 10 bucks more per night, but it's definitely worth it, trust me. I hope this place here finds a new owner who'll take care of it.

Staff were cool. Travellers were cool too. Generally clean but the washrooms need renovation. The should update their info in booking apps as well as their website.

We booked a private room for 2 nights. The opening hour of the front desk are supposed to be 10am-8pm. We arrived around 6pm and no one was there, just a note with a number. We called it, to know how we could proceed to check in and the manager answered, saying that he was off that day and that we should've received an email specifying the process for "late check in"... At no point did we get informed when placing the reservation that 6pm was a "late" check-in as it was supposed to be during the opening hours and we didn't get any email about that. We still checked our mailbox thoroughly and called back a second time, to say that we hadn't received the information. The manager answered and told us that he didn't WANT to check us in as he thought we were "misbehaving" ... (what ?) and that he was afraid we would disturb the other guests... Clearly he was off that day and couldn’t be bothered to come and check us in. So it was 7pm, it was already dark, super cold and we had to find a new place to spend the night. Luckily we found a GREAT place to stay that we can highly recommend ! We chose a private room at "Home in Downtown" (on booking.com), Eno is a great host and welcomed us warmly.

One of the worst experiences I have ever had. I called the reception to extend my stay. They picked up the call and I asked them a few questions. But whoever picked up the call was very inconsiderate and didn’t answer any of my question and said I have to check out bc of “misbehaviour”. When I asked him how did I misbehave calmly he couldn’t tell me and said “I don’t need to explain anything, this is a private property and I can call the police” I would suggest anyone who is booking a place here CANCEL AND RUN.

Good location and the balconies are a nice detail. If you are lucky, you can have a great city view. Unfortunately, there are no private bathrooms and overall the place is a little outdated.

Perfect situation, in middle of Kensington Market! But unfortunately a lot of bad points in this Hostel, there is no vibes and the common area dirty, shower with no intimity, 1 toilet per floor.... This place have a great potential, I hope that with time they'll maybe hire more staff. Expect the girl at the entry we didn't saw other staff

I did love where it is place in the city, with easy Access to the street bus. You can also easy go on foot to the city and all the restaurant around are very good and affordable

Me and my boyfriend stayed here in summer 2015, the rooms were very clean, bed sheets were clean, the shower & bathroom was nice and had lots of space, only downfall is that the bathroom and showers are separate. Overall we had pleasant stay, the room had AC and the lady at the front desk was nice when we needed the remote to change the AC temperature. It was not loud, very quiet in the hallways. The location was convenient. I am a very picky person so i was glad with this service!
