I had an incredible experience at Boxcar Social in midtown Toronto! I dropped by around 9:30 am on a weekday, and it turned out to be a lifesaver. Thanks to subway delays, I had to make a quick stop at Summerhill station, and this coffee shop graciously accommodated me for a meeting. The staff at Boxcar Social were not just accommodating, but super friendly and welcoming. Their cappuccino was an absolute delight - perfectly brewed and incredibly delicious. What pleasantly surprised me was their lovely patio in the back. It's the perfect spot to meet friends, unwind with a book, or get some work done in a peaceful environment. I can't express how happy I am to have stumbled upon this gem. I will definitely be back, and I highly recommend Boxcar Social to anyone in the area. Thank you for making my morning so enjoyable! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you Boxcar Social for hosting our Halloween Chess event! We all enjoyed the classy, cozy, rustic atmosphere of this cafe and I especially loved the solid wood table that looked like it was 'made' for playing chess. The upstairs area and seating was perfect for 15 chess players. We were very happy with different types of coffees, all perfectly crafted and delicious. The almond croissant and the one with caramel on top were the favorite pastries. Great Coffee + Chess =Perfection! ❤ Boxcar Social, we were made for each other!

Coffee is super bitter. Quick and efficient service. They also have small carafes of water for you to take with you to the table. The cafe has 2 floors with nice comfy couches on the top. The main floor is quite dim despite the lighting during the day. If you want light, sit by the window overlooking Yonge Street. Love the backyard where you can bask in the sun while working. Relaxed vibe in general with many locals working or having a chat. Be sure to check out their bottleshop next door. Different operating hours, so double check before going.

Very cozy and relaxed cafe with a back patio. They have a second floor with large windows and couch. We got a cooler and an iced matcha latte. I liked that it was not sweet. Didn't get to try the food here yet. The bartender was really nice and welcoming.

Cafe was dog friendly on the first day with friendly servers and then rude staff asked us out the next day. Had a great experience the first day with different servers and a kind manager. They were welcoming and very dog friendly and even let us to stay without a carrier upstairs. Our Yorkie was cute and super friendly and well behaved so everyone including customers had a pleasant experience seeing her around. Because of the nice experience, the day after i even brought my parents and fiance for a 2nd visit. But unluckily we met with different baristas and staff who were very rude from the beginning, acting all condescending and straight up unpleasant, mentioned how it was not allowed and told us to swiftly leave the premise, what puzzles me was the off putting attitude and an apparent dog bowl being present there. Even the surrounding customers were surprised at the rude reception. The condescending younger baristas were claiming management would strictly forbid this for safety and health reasons and i was incorrect to recall a false dog friendly claim. I would not revisit ever again. What a bunch of racist a**holes. See the photos of evidence we were allowed to have our Cookie there with us on the 2nd floor. Judge for yourself. The environment is nice but the coffee and food are simply mediocre and bland.

My new favorite working spot! This place is so nicely decorated, it feels like home. Prices are fair and the quality of the drinks is amazing. I had the chai latte and a hot chocolate -- easily one of the BEST hot chocs I've ever had. The patio is quite nice as well so you should definitely use that if the weather allows. Pet friendly, perfect music selection... this place has everything and I'm in love!

Simple bar menu, wine, whiskey, and beer equals simple service and is highly over priced. I was there for an event, the bar staff conveniently included a gratuity of 20% on a self-serve event (no table service). Price aside the hospitality from bar staff, contrary to their high gratuity was less than stellar. If you go, please stay in your designated section.

Boxcar has an incredible location and inviting space, with incredibly uninviting staff. Yesterday, we'd asked for a recommendation on the drip coffee, and some information on the available sandwiches. To the coffee, the server hardly interrupted her own conversation to reply with: "You can't ask that kind of question with drip coffee." and proceeded to continue chatting. I asked about the sandwiches, and she didn't answer but continued chatting and handed me a list, some of which were "sold out". I asked for one that was available, and she proceeds to tell me the list (that she gave me so she apparently wouldn't have to talk?) was outdated. We aren't normally picky, we both spent years as waiters and baristas, and we are always affronted at how rude and seemingly...elitist? the staff are. Beautiful location, well made coffee, terribly uninviting staff.

Love the vibe of this cafe. Good selection of drinks and the best coffee. Many different options for seating, including a great patio out back, and some rooms upstairs

Such a cool place. Quiet upstairs and good vibes downstairs and on the patio at night. Friendly service. 2 gluten-free baked good options when I was there - the cookie was delicious.

My go-to place for cozy, casual drinks, I almost exclusively come here in the evening for the wine list. Been eager to try the whiskey selection as well. The staff are knowledgeable about what is offered and always give good recommendations as the menu changes frequently.

This cafe is really nice. It might cost a bit more, but it’s worth it for the environment and friendly service. It feels welcoming and has a great look and lighting. We tried the empanadas, and they were super tasty. The pepperoni and cheese filling was my favorite – so good! My friend had a glass of wine that she liked, and my coffee Mocha was perfect. It’s cool that you can choose from different drinks. I would say this place works perfectly for dates and for hangouts, it has good food, a nice setting, and I can’t wait to come back in winter for the cozy vibe. I’d definitely come back to try more from their menu!

One of my favorite spots in Toronto. I love all of their locations. Coffee is actually just okay, but I always love the way it’s presented. Love that they also have alcohol beverages. Good vibes. A nice place to chat with friends, work/study, and just chill. A place for hipsters!

I love this place :) they recently won a BlogTo award! Their coffee selection is fun to try and the atmosphere here is very chill. Dylan and Katie are great staff and fun to interact with. :) This has become my favourite place to hang. Also very pet friendly!

One of my favorite places to write/study in the core. The food and drinks are pretty pricey but very delicious. The tip options start at 18%...for picking up coffee. Kind of ridiculous. Other than that, boxcar has a pleasant atmosphere with lots of cool places to sit. Also, it always smells really nice, which weirdly motivates you to focus.

I love this place to have catch ups with friends and I really appreciate the fact that they close late (for Toronto parameters) and the service is always kind.

The coffee doesn't disappoint and drinks are made well. Service is inconsistent - good sometimes and terrible on other days. A great space but wi-fi isn't reliable so not the best to work from remotely if you require internet access. In the evenings, it's a cozy spot for a glass of wine and social time. They offer a variety of beverages with NA options too.

I love this cafe for its hours during the week. Their coffee is average I did have both very well made and very sour tasting coffee here before. I am not fan of their beans but also depending on the barista the experience changes. If you plan to work or study here you might have a problem with internet connection. I’ve never had stable connection on the second floor but it’s not a big deal for me. It’s just amazing for the different vibes it gives on the second floor, two sections of main floor and the patio. I like the atmosphere every time. Also, the washrooms are always clean and the soap smells so nice 😅

We had the pork sandwich and iced latte and watermelon juice. Fulfilling portions and quite tasty. The iced coffee was divine. Great idea to offer syrup instead of sugar. Easier to dissolve in a cold drink. Relaxing patio at the back with sun and shade options.

It's so nice to have a cafe that's open later in Toronto! I adore the atmosphere, it feels so welcoming and cozy. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the drinks are delicious. I've been here a few times, but I particularly love their blueberry tea.

Great coffee and atmosphere. I went during the weekend and they allowed me to sit inside with my big dog, extra points for being dog friendly. Just don’t allow your dogs to climb the furniture. I ordered Mocha and a ham and cheese croissant, so tasty. Will definitely come back.

  • 1/5 Rinku G. 5 months ago on Google
The Blueberry and cheese croissant was alright but the iced Mocha was the worst one I've had yet, solid chocolate pieces were settled at the bottom and overall the taste was awful. Do not recommend this place for their cafe, probably only good for alcohol. The ambiance was nice though.

I went here with a friend, who said he had only heard rave reviews about this place. Honestly, this place was real nice. If I didn't already know I was in the nice part of town, I sure as heck knew the moment we sat down. This place is nicer than my apartment. This place is nicer than the nice restaurant my family went to growing up. I can't remember how much I paid for my Americano and croissant. When you're in a nice place like this you just nod along and act like you belong. Someone asked a barista where to find something, and she gestured to an area right in front of her and said, politely: "You'll find everything you need here!" I sure as heck will. I wanted to ask her if she took in lost dogs.

I went in today and stood in line for a few minutes. Neither of the two servers acknowledged me. They appeared busy so I waited. As soon as another customer came in, they were immediately greeted and the server was ready to take their order. It seems they only provide preferential decent service to some customers and not others. My order was taken only after they noticed the first customer.

The shop is awesome and the coffee + food are super tasty. The service at Somerville is not the best, though. One of the waitresses ( tall, long hair) doesn’t really know how to deal with customers. Lady, you’re not at home, this is a for profit business, please show some respect and interest for the work you do. Too bad that such a wonderful shop hires people like her.

Cozy place, good for study or reading. Lots of space to sit (upstair, and patio available in summer time) 100% recommendation!

I love the vibes of this place, even though there were many people, th e place was calm. The barista and the cashier are friendly, but when my friend asked for a sugerir the menu the cashier said everything is good 🙄. I ordered an ice latte and a almond croissant and both things were perfect. The ice latte has a strong coffee flavor, the croissant is perfect balance not to sweet but strong almond flavor.

Boxcar social has the best Mocha in Mid Town! Especially if it is Oat Mocha- OMG!!! Location and ambience is cherry on top- so cosy!

Nice little patio at the back. Good selection of coffees. Friendly staff. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is because I got badly bitten by some insect. Maybe best not to sit under the tree.

Hallelujah! Third location I've tried of BCS and this one has everything. Great ambience. Just small enough to feel cosy without being claustrophobic. Coffee is electric. So tasty. Friendly staff. Great patio!

Cozy and nice! The coffee was great, it’s pretty small but a lot of seating spaces inside and outdoor. The coffee is pricey but worth it. The vibe is nice, you can study work or chill! Recommend this cozy cafe!
