Beautiful location in the heart of The Distillery District! Enjoy the wonderful patio on cobblestones while it is still warm out! Standard offerings as other locations. This is a very busy location, so expect a line.

It is an unusual and somewhat famous coffee shop. The atmosphere is quite nice, the 2nd level seating area is rustic and cosy, however the coffee itself is quite generic and definitely overrated. Overall come for the ambiance not for the java and you'll be quite happy.

Huge and gorgeous cafe in one of the corners of the Distellery district. The vibe is great and so is the customer service. Good variety of coffee and pastries. They do have vegan options as well. I love that this place can heat up the pastries. This 2 storey cafe has a very very generous seating capacity. I love the interiors. The huge frames on the wall depicts all the different location of Balzac’s, which is pretty cool. I love their gorgeous lamp. Pretty quick service. I love their winter drinks. White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Latte is my favourite. They do have a washroom and drinking water corner inside. Highly recommended place to enjoy a date or friends hangout at this lovely location.

The moment you step into Balzac's Distillery District, you're transported to a different era. The beautiful heritage building that houses the cafe is the perfect setting for enjoying a delicious cup of coffee and one of their fresh-baked goods or sweet treats. The coffee is some of the best I've ever had - it's always fresh and flavourful, and the staff know how to make a perfect cup. The service is always friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. It's the perfect place to take a break from exploring the city and relax with a good book or conversation with friends. I highly recommend Balzac's Distillery District for anyone looking for an enjoyable and unique coffee experience.

Had coffee, tea and cookies. Liked each one while enjoying the charm of 1895 building. Being a week day, it was relatively less crowded..

This coffee shop is such a gem in the Distillery District. It’s an industrial design and loads of baked goods and delicious coffee. I had an iced americano and an iced brownie and I really loved it. The atmosphere along with the design and the great bakery varieties makes it one of the best coffee places I’ve ever been to. There was free 2%milk, oat drink and half & half cream to add to your coffee if you wanted extra. Tip: Go upstairs if you want to study/work or just spend some time with friends or alone. There is a cute indoor balcony that make you feel like you’re stepping in the Victorian era.

This coffee place has good atmosphere. Then they follow it up with good coffee. The building itself is quite nice but it does get quite crowded so most people just grab the coffee and go. Staff is very pleasant and accommodating. The coffee was worth the wait.

The exposed brick and high ceiling is the main reason I come here often. Oh, and it’s the only coffee shop in the area with extended hours, not to mention the staff is friendly and the place is very spacious for a downtown location. The coffee is OK. It’s a great place to chill, hangout, read, or just take a coffee break.

Such a cool coffee shop in a true heritage building! We especially loved their upstairs seating and a little indoor balcony, and of course the chandelier 😍 service is amazing, coffee is delicious, this location is super clean, we keep coming back. Plenty of indoor seating, and some tables outside. Located right in the Distillery District, but not very busy in the mornings or during the day, highly recommended!

If you are visiting the distillery, I highly recommend making time to visit here. There are lots of coffee and tea selections available along with many baked goods to choose from (including vegan choices). Balzac's is located in a heritage building which has lots of great atmosphere. There are seats on the first floor, but make sure to check out second floor for the cool upstairs view and relaxed area. Enjoy!

Some of the best hot chocolate I have ever had and it was made with care, and the ingredients were amazing. The café on the inside was amazing. The view from the second floor is astounding. There was a bit of a lineup to get to this place and get the hot chocolate itself but it was well worth it when it is snowing outside and you have this warm cup of amazing hot chocolate. It is worth the wait believe me.

I always enjoy all of the Balzac locations. They are set up with a great atmosphere and this location is no different. Whether you sit inside the historical building or outside and enjoy the sun, it's a great place to enjoy a coffee. I got a cortado and it was alright. I find the Balzac coffee to be slightly darker of a roast than I like for espresso and so it tasted quite bitter and over extracted. Not bad but nothing worth getting excited over either. Overall worth coming to sit and enjoy the atmosphere and have a nicer conversation.

It didn’t take me much to adore this coffee shop. The moment you step in you are greeted by an amazing interior decoration. They serve many types of sweets and for me it was so hard to choose because all looked delicious. Coffee is good and the ambiance is perfect to spend some time alone or with friends

I come here sometimes because it's the closet thing available. I think it's just okay for a few reason. I find it strange that if you want a Vanilla Latte, they charge an extra dollar but if you buy the Salted Caramel Latte, they don't charge extra...Why? Also some of the staff seems a bit displeased at times, not sure why, just a vibe. The actual flavour of the coffee is pretty good, so I visit for it, but if there was another option near by, I'm not so sure.

Amazing place to be to spend night under festive glittering lights and crowd. Great restaurants, shopping and food stalls. Go with friends/colleagues/family. Enjoy the walk, food, lights and festival spirit. Follow COVID protocols. Carry Vax proof and I'd card to enter.

Decent service and hot drinks. Sort of overhyped to be honest to it’s own brand. However overall a great variety of Balzac’s products and great interior with a vintage look, it matches very well the distillery district architecture.

It doesn't have that many spots for sitting, but the service was quick and the place is a cozy stop while visiting the Distillery District's Christmas Market. The hot chocolate was nice and they had the veggie option with oat milk. Would definitely visit again.

This is a lovely, high ceiling/double story vintage industrial building with character and style. Nice inside table and lots outside in the quad. This place can have quite a line and if so, do a little shopping and stop in a few minutes later and it will be quiet. Big groups pass through quickly.

It is an incredible place: with two levels and lots of tables/chairs. The postindustrial setting creates amazing atmosphere with exposed brick walls and vast space. a beautiful chandelier and numerous windows provide lots of light.

It was a brisk morning on boxing day, came here with a friend and we found the place very warm and welcoming. The line was fairly long but moved quickly. Seating was quite hard to find but my friend waited upstairs and seats cleared up about 10 minutes later. The coffee is hot but not blistering, and the milk alternatives are included such as oatmilk which is nice! I love sitting here and looking out the window towards the christmas tree and christmas market passer by's.

We got iced coffee, matcha and a few pastries right before closing and the staff were so nice for letting us stay. The servers were friendly and welcoming, I love how the pastries were not too sweet. Prices were also decent.

What a romantic gem this place is! Such a unique and wonderful cafe; beautiful, cool and comfortable. We had the hot chocolate, blueberry muffin, chocolate chip cookie and fudge gluten free oat bar. Food, beverages and staff are all fantastic. Our first time being here and we’ve fallen in love.

I find, in life, you generally get what you pay for - and this is no exception. As each coffee ☕️ place has its own taste 👅 some hit 💯 some are off by some percentage. But It won't replace my day-to-day need of coffee ☕️ Caffeine ☕️ serve’s the purpose! Freshly brewed great taste 👅, but it's well worth splashing out on if I fancy some caffetine ☕️ based, self-indulgence and luxury.

Very cute coffee shop for chilling or studying/working. Has a great seating area which makes it great for sitting for long hours. It's located in a historic building so it has a cute vintage vibe. It's hands down the nicest Balzac's location in Toronto. As with all Balzac's, the drinks are slightly overpriced but it has nice specialty/seasonal drinks.

The original Distillery coffee shop. The building itself is beautiful and on entry a soaring 2 storey space amplifies the hiss of espressos being pulled . Excellent service and snacks - fresh pastries and juices - and lots of outdoor seating - worth a linger

The ambience and staff are good. That's about it. I had cafe frappe and it was a slush in texture. Also tried golden latte which was just meh! Come here only for the vibes and old school architecture.

  • 4/5 Kaulin G. 2 years ago on Google
Quite pricey, but that Cafe Harvest is the first fall time pumpkin drink that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. They don’t try to please the crowd with this beverage. They don’t mess around with fancy spices or foolish syrups, they don’t try to make it something it’ll never be. It tastes as if they took a little pumpkin into their own hands and lovingly milked it themselves, and if you don’t like it, they don’t care. If you want to truly be sippin on a hot pumpkin, that is a service Balzac’s provides you with this drink.

Nice place and good coffee and friendly staff , if I'm going to distillery district at morning that is my favorite place to sit and drink morning coffee

  • 5/5 Danny M. 1 year ago on Google
What an incredible place. The coffee is really good and the pastries are always fresh. Excellent location and beautiful decoration. I highly recommend getting there early. The most amazing seat is the one with the view upstairs. If you love local art, you'll appreciate this place. They have a lot of advertisements for artists and events in the area. The upper floor isn't wheelchair accessible but it's still possible to sit downstairs. Prices and sizes are decent, and you get great quality food.

We had a delightful Saturday afternoon strolling around and savoring a cup of coffee here. The Toronto Distillery District never fails to create a relaxing atmosphere, making it a perfect place to unwind and enjoy some quality time.

  • 2/5 Jamie P. 2 years ago on Google
I bought a can of black cold brew. It honestly tasted like smoky BBQ (in a bad way). I took one sip and let the staff know that it was not tasting good. I was offered an iced americano instead, which was a nice gesture. Unfortunately, the iced americano was equally terrible, as it was a shot of espresso with — no exaggeration — 350ml of cold water and ice added to it. Absolutely disgusting. I left it behind and gave up.

Went to Balzac’s coffee in Distillery District. There are lots of place to sit and staff were nice :) washroom is located in 1F (near waiting line) Personally recommended to go there to avoiding rush hours because you might need to wait a long line and cant find the sit.

Definitely a nice visit while in Toronto. The coffee is very good, service is friendly and quick, and the vibe of the place is really nice. Also, the plastic cups look incredibly good. It's quite small and I think we visited while it was not crowded.

Love their coffee and I always get a bag of the winter roast for my dad for Christmas ☺️ love the vibe within the cafe all year round but feels especially cozy during the holiday season 💓 turmeric latte is a cool, novel drink I had not previously experienced before Balzacs

My order was a flat white, milk is not frothed correctly. Not the correct ratio for a flat white. There is barely a coffee taste. Definitely not a speciality place.

Atticus was so helpful and friendly. They went out of their way to check if there was any seating for me upstairs. Unfortunately there wasn't but I decided to get a drink to go. Atticus helped modify a drink to suit my dietary restrictions and was very pleasant and understanding about it. Friendly service and a delicious drink!

  • 5/5 Dimitrios P. 2 years ago on Google
Very friendly staff and great service. They offer quality pastries and beverages. The location is beautiful being in a heritage area and building, there is a lot of character within the building. The upstairs seating is perfect for getting some work done, a wee loud with the chatter but with a solid pair of headphones you can study and get work done for sure! There's a mix of sofa style seats and more upright seats as well, and theres a little nook at the top, ontop of the cash area.

Can't visit the Distillery District without grabbing a cup of joe at Balzac's. The coffee is good, but not exceptional - that said, it's still delicious. The space and ambiance are incredible at this location though, so it's worth a visit!

One of the most beautiful coffee shops I’ve ever seen. I literally walk kilometres/miles out of my way to go there. And when there the people are super amazing as is the coffee which is my gold standard for home brew.

  • 2/5 Teresa A. 2 years ago on Google
First time here, won't return. The vibe was weird. The staff kind of had an attitude. It's super hot inside too and the bathroom is coded but once inside omg SO FILTHY. Like i get it, no one wants to clean bathrooms but do hourly checks. The Matcha Latte was okay. Like a splash of matcha and lots of milk. For the price and size, could've gone to Starbucks. My bf's Americano was good i guess. So eh.

  • 1/5 Frishta R. 1 year ago on Google
Very disappointed after ordering a cider and coffee for dine in. They gave the one time use waxy cups that are extremely harmful. The only reason I came here was to enjoy a cup of coffee inside a regular ceramic cup. I would otherwise never purchase a coffee if I know it comes in a way cup. And then to top it off, we see see lovely ladies upstairs drinking their drinks in regular ceramic cups. Why did we not get regular cups? Horrible. Will not be back. Go to another coffee shop in the distillery instead.

  • 4/5 Van N. 9 months ago on Google
Very pretty antique coffee shop in the photogenic distillery district. My fav drink is Parisian mist (earl grey tea) which is creamy, moderately sweet, and aromatic. They have different seating areas in two-storey building.

As you stroll through the red stone paved streets of The Distillery District, off Downtown Toronto you will hit this cute cafe at the end of one of the streets. What attracted me most, right in the beginning was the rustic look of this place. It feels really old, and curiously, reason why I was keen to experience it. It is simple in terms of the offerings of the coffee and cookies and pastries but the coffee is really good 👍 The cherry on the cake is the seating outside that give you a sneak peek of the CN Tower in the background. Loved the place, recommend it to all and would definitely go there again with a nice book to spend more time and absorb the vibes of The Distillery District from there.

Best place in Distillery District to get a cuppa. An established chain of coffee shops that also serves food and has merch.
