Overall, it was a little expensive, as the indoor component of the museum is quite small. The train simulator was great. There is a lot of information. The trains outside are awesome (and free). There are tons of great photo opportunities around the park, places to eat, etc. The miniature railroad is fun, and great for little kids, but is also rather expensive for a 3-4 minute ride. It should do two laps. The museum should be by donation, or, expand to include more refurbished trains indoors. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

The museum has access to the external area, which is free, where you can see the old locomotives, climb them for photos, read about the history, observe the train parking sheds and the railway cabins. The internal part consists of a small space with old parts and explaining a little more about the machines. For children and adults, it is still possible to go around the park with a small train and view all the points from it. It's a short trip, but for those in the region it's worth including in the itinerary.

My toddler loves trains and we walk thru the outdoor area almost weekly, they're pretty fantastic and all free. We finally brought him into the actual museum. Displays are cool, staff are great. I just wish more exhibits were open. There's a little play area with some once cool but currently run down toys, and some things weren't working, but I'm happy to support them. Just wish more of the exhibits were open, and I think the running model in the kids area would've been awesome if it worked, but my toddler had a fun time still. The toys and books, while appreciated need to be refreshed and would love for more of the exhibits to be open and accessible. I think his favourite thing is still the little train they run outside, that's one of his few cherished memories from last year. I appreciated that they kept mask mandates and checked proof of vaccination at the door.

We bought tickets on site. We did not have to wear masks. Service was friendly. The museum is quite small with plenty of artifacts and info boards. It seems like they want to expand, which would be lovely. My husband and I enjoyed our visit. After we enjoyed the museum, reading about some of the trains, we enjoyed taking photos of trains on the grounds outside, ate at the attached restaurant and shopped at the railway gift shop which had some nice items like puzzles and mugs. The museum is near the CN tower and other things to see and do.

In an area of a giant tower, giant fish bowl and giant stadium filled with birds. It's easy to forget the little engine that could. However, this place is the diamond in the rough! It's not a big place. But, definitely a must see if you are in the area. It's fun for the hole family with history, art, trinkets, tours, a coloring area and even a train simulator. Lastly, the staff is super nice and friendly 😊

We paid $10 each as adults to go here. I think it had about 15-20 minutes of content max. What was there was nice, but for the price, disappointing when you consider for a few dollars more you can spend hours in the big museums. I really hope they invest the intake into making this museum worthy of the price they’re charging. Please also get a decent train model running for people to look at or interact with.

Smallish on the inside and dramatic on the outside it's a must see when downtown Toronto. If you want the feel of operating a modern diesel- electric locomotive they have a full scale prototype cab set up with computer animation. A real throttle with notching, real train, engine and dynamic brakes controls etc.

There is something so nostalgic about trains, reminds me of childhood...A glimpse of glorious past of CP and CN rail... Excellent place to take your kids on weekend and also take them on a tour to Ripley's Aquarium and CN Tower

Amazing place to visit with a toddler especially if they love trains. The museum is open today for outdoor display and they have trains like steam engines, passenger cars, and box carts etc on display. Located right next to the CN tower and Ripleys museum, they have also a mini park near by for children to play at right after. Cycling options are also available. My family drove here and we parked at toronto metro convention parking and exited through the south parking. As soon as you exit look for the stairs and you are there. So barely a two minute walk. Parking costs $5 per half hour and located at a very convenient spot. Due to covid this place is not jam packed so a lovely place to spend time with family on a nice sunny day. Would highly recommend this place.

$5 admission ($3 for Little Man) to go inside stall 17.  Worth every penny. 17 - Historical pieces, maps, videos, old tools, dishes, uniforms, and more amazing artifact items to check out.  Little Man loved the simulator.  We both liked learning about The Canadian and the history of rail in Canada. Outside (free) - Check out Cabin D to learn about (and try) the track switches.  Learn about what went on inside a Caboose.  Climb aboard the new GO train car.  Don Station has the Gift Shop and is worth a visit inside even if you're not in the shopping mood. All of the other trains cars can be seen from the outside even when the museum is closed. Watching the turntable rotate was pretty amazing! Wish I took more pictures. I swear I saw Wilson from Chuggington.

If you are going down town for a visit the railway museum is one of the stop you can take and see around. They have old railway engines and few tracks. Good for kids to see and learn. They also have restaurants there , nice to sit and have food there. This experience is different than the other tourist places to visit.

(Translated by Google) Well thought out, fantastic location and lots of additional attractions for everyone. The whole history of railways and a large number of exhibits encourage you to see this fantastic place with great potential called Railway Museum, which I personally highly recommend, and that the CN tower is nearby is just a plus, you get two in one. I loved train exhibits, and this museum seems to have great collection - however I was not treated properly when I tried buying a ticket to see the museum (in Oct 2022). I didn't know they STILL demanded patrons to wear mask even though it is no longer mandated by the government. Unfortunately I didn't bring one (why should I if 99% of the businesses didn't require one). The staff coldly told me unless I don't wear one I wasn't allowed to come. Fair enough I was willing to wear one if they offered one like any other place but wanted to charge extra $1 for it (on top of the $10 admission fees). The hell with this, so I left!

Very Good. I really enjoyed the tour and would definitely try to go again to experience the other tour and the miniature train ride. Parking was also not too bad to find and not too far. It especially helped being able to get the parking pass that could be added with the tickets.

Excellent use of the old roundhouse. Reasonable admission rates albeit limited opening hours. Adds historical flavour to an otherwise sterile part of downtown. Like the fact that the outdoor part of the museum is free for people to roam around in and see locos and coaches up close. If you're lucky enough like today for me, they fired up an old loco and got it onto the roundhouse, like a kid in a candy store, great to see!

Very neat place to visit if you have an interest in railway history. The outdoor section of the museum is set up very nicely with a lot of space to walk around and take a closer look at the locomotives and train cars. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

A most interesting place indeed located at the foot of the city with amazing vintage yet important rail history of transportation in the big city. The box cars and locomotive engines are most beautiful even if from the past, they show those of us how much progress has been made. If you are fortunate enough you also get to see the engineers in the workshops as they restore or service other parts of the growing display. While touring these great wonders you also have nice outdoor food and drink establishments family oriented. Absolutely worth a visit and enjoyable by all ages.

Took a trip down to the Toronto Railway Museum today and had the place to myself. Open for tours inside or you can explore the grounds. First time seeing everything here and worth the trip. Great spot for kids as they would have the time of there lives. And Steam Whistle patio is open next door.

It was really nice. I went with my camp and we got to go earlier than opening time. It was very fun, we had a tour guide and we got to go inside the trains. We even rode the small train that goes all the way around. It was really exciting. Got to learn a lot obout past trains and can't believe the go train used be like 42 cents, maximum fare $2!!!!

Nice little museum, small but with lots of info. The staff was very friendly. I wish we could've seen the back where they renovate the trains but I understand why that's not possible. We enjoyed it!

The museum is small, I'm not sure if the other half is just workshop or in construction. One of the real train display is in maintenance as well....When you walk inside you see this huge train that is there and we thought we can go up there however it's in a restricted area. They should have inform people half of it is not accessible before asking people to pay $5 each. Im glad the kids are not old enough so we didn't have to pay more. Better spend the admission for the mini train ride outside then the "museum" itself.

The Toronto Railway Museum is in the heart of downtown Toronto, opposite to C N Tower and Ripley's Aquarium. The Toronto Railway Museum is the repository of the railway history. Worth a visit to this place to see the old engine and bogie, and the history of railways in Canada.

A chance encounter while visiting the city. An outdoor heritage museum that showcases some charming trains through the ages. A lovely outdoor display opposite the Rogers Stadium. A nice walk through the town that allows you to learn the history of each of them. The old station has been converted into a few popular restaurants and bars, which is quite lovely to catch a break, if you will. Otherwise, continue walking through the museum and be transported back in time.

  • 3/5 Judi M. 10 months ago on Google • 76 reviews
A small museum. The displays are not much and 30-45minutes is enough to walk through it. The most interesting item is the train demo. Admission is $10 for adult and I think it is a bit expensive in terms of the display volume and exhibit area size.

  • 3/5 Madhur B. 4 months ago on Google • 56 reviews
I was disappointed, there isn’t much of an immersive experience or enough exhibits to see. The trains in the open area are impressive but you can easily miss out on going in.

this is a really good way to spend an hour or so downtown. the tickets for students (with id) are 8 dollars, but I dont think it would be worth it to pay the full ticket price to see the inside since its quite small. there is a train simulator which was really interesting, but the best exhibits are outdoors which is free to see

Feels like a rip off. $14 per adult. And there's only 3 trains inside, that's it. Probably best you go during the summer time where they usually have more trains outside. But at least my child had fun playing with a couple of your trains.

This is a great place to visit if you are near the CN tower. You can spend a little or a long time wondering around. This would be a great place to bring a little one who is interested in trains. For the adult there is a place to buy beer and a nice little patio to sit on. There are also public washrooms here which were clean and well kept

A small yet informative transportation museum in a unique urban environment. Located across the street from CN Tower, the outdoor exhibits are freely viewable and the indoor exhibits (small entrance fee, look for stall door #17) provide just the right amount of museum for the locale.

  • 5/5 Shiv R. 4 years ago on Google
The museum itself is quite small, but it has some interesting content. There is a train simulator, with real controls, and some exhibits on the history and function of trains. Outside the Roundhouse are many trains and passenger cars, some of which you can enter on guided tours. Finally, my favorite part was the miniature railway for kids, which goes on fully functional mini train tracks.

Is nice. Right now is under construction. Make it look like the $5 is to much but actually isn't. I guess the fee includes the outside part. So actually is a good price. I didn't take the small train ride but is cheap. I wish one day the trains can be access the inside too. I wouldn't mind paying more if that's the case.

🚂...VERY DISAPPOINTING.. 🚂 Walking from the 'CN Tower' to the 'Biergarten' thought I'd take a "butchers" (look). The admission price was low and I soon found out why...😕 There was a distinct lack of exhibits to hold ones attention for more than thirty minutes...🙄 It was a very poor advertisement for the 'Canadian Railways' (CNR) whose magnificent 'Tower' overlooks it. 👎...COULD & SHOULD BE...👎 SO MUCH BETTER SUCH A SHAME
