I am rating two stars because this company does not respect customers when they ask for a refund for a service they no longer want. I have been charged 2 times for a service I canceled. The dance class I took was very fun, the instructor was lovely, but the business side of this company is not customer oriented to create a happy experience unfortunately. I tried to resolve this issue for 2 weeks now and have been getting the run around from the accounts department. Just thought it was important for the consumer to know what kind of business this studio is. Customer satisfaction is not their imperative. My friend had the exact same experience and also has continued to be charged for services we have not wanted or used. When we actually attended the studio for the class no one was interested in providing clear directions for where our class was, they were almost annoyed at having to explain where the class we were taking was being held, it was our first time there, and our last. Unfortunately welcoming environment was not the vibe I got. 😕

Instructors and classes are amazing but their business model is so scammy. They won’t let you attend classes after cancelling membership even if you’ve prepaid. If I pay for January I expect to get all the classes I paid for whether or not I’ve cancelled my membership for the following month.

Did a private dance class at Underground for a friend's birthday and had a really great experience! The customer service when booking and upon arrival was quick, friendly, and efficient. Our dance instructor (Tyler Yan) was fantastic and the space was lovely, highly recommend The Penthouse! Overall, would definitely go back for drop in classes and consider another private class for a birthday/bachelorette/something fun.

Money hungry studio, do not fall into their money-grabbing membership trap. They clearly don’t want you to be a long term customer. My friend and I signed up for a trial and my first class got cancelled last minute because the instructor was 25 minutes late. They asked when we’d be restarting our trials, and we both missed the emails. Rather than following up or putting our membership on hold, they just let our membership auto renew. We didn’t notice until we checked reviewed our respective credit cards later. Their trial auto renews, unless you cancel explicitly. I am appalled by how the company managed our trials, we never even experienced a single class.

I am writing to express my disappointment with the safety issues that I have experienced during my time at your studio. As a student, I expect to feel safe and comfortable during my classes, but unfortunately, this has not been the case. During my heels dance class on Apr.29, I fell hard due to a slippery section of the floor while walking towards my locker in the classroom. Despite the floor not being wet, it was very slippery, causing me to fall and experience significant pain in my hands and the bones above my buttocks. I reported this incident to your staff immediately, but I have yet to receive any explanation or reply from your studio after two days. This lack of response has left me feeling frustrated and concerned, as I believe that the safety of students should always come first, especially in a class like heels dance. As a paying student, I believe that safety should be a top priority in any dance class. It is extremely concerning to see that your studio does not place any importance on the safety and well-being of its students. The no-response that I have received is not only unprofessional but also shows a lack of care towards your customers. I am deeply disappointed by the overall lack of safety and disregard for the safety of students in your studio. It is unacceptable to have safety issues go unaddressed and to have no follow-up or response from your staff. I hope that you will take immediate action to rectify these concerns and prioritize the safety of your students. I am also disappointed that I have to resort to writing this review, but I feel that it is necessary to bring attention to this matter. I hope that your studio takes this issue seriously and takes immediate action to ensure the safety of all students.

Favourite studio in the downtown core! This place has a great variety of classes to offer across various styles of dance and most of the instructors are generally enthusiastic, encouraging, and engaging. I do wish they offered true beginner classes for those who do not have previous dance experience but want to learn, as well as technique classes for more styles (e.g. contemporary, jazz) for those who wish to work on these aspects in particular. All in all a fun place to be.

Our team had such a great time taking the Wednesday night Beginner Hip Hop Class with Shane Nicole. His enthusiasm kept the energy up and the experience fun and accessible for everyone at all levels. We'd definitely come back and recommend the Underground Dance Centre to anyone looking for an awesome dance experience! Thanks Aaron and Karly for getting our team booked for class.

Incredible dance teachers and exceptional customer service. I had an issue with my membership earlier this week, and the Underground customer service handled the issue with a high-level of attentiveness and grace. Shelby Morrison in particular was 10/10 with her help throughout the process. Would highly recommend this studio on all fronts.

Amazing teachers and super friendly staff! Everyone truly loves to dance and have fun here. There are tons of studios and a huge variety of different classes, with so many different time slots to choose from. The booking system is very user friendly and the location is great too! Can’t recommend it highly enough!

The teachers are encouraging, talented and kind, the classes are really fun and good for the soul. The range of different types of dance means you can try out a lot of different ways of moving your body. Everyone including other students are really nice and help to create a supportive atmosphere. I tell everyone to try a class!

Super expensive and they milk you for your money every chance they get! They don’t have a drop in system so you’ll have to pay about $30 every week and if you cancel the membership all the classes you’ve paid for just disappears. Imagine if you’re in a tight financial situation and just can’t pay that much weekly?! If you put your account on hold they freeze your classes and then guess what? You’ll have to spend more to use the classes you’ve already paid for. I’ve been going to this studio for years and ever since they made this stupid system I have no motivation to go anymore plus the new teachers are super rude and inconsiderate of beginner students. One time I injured my muscles during a heels class and nina completely ignored me. Didn’t ask if I needed help or didn’t slow down to help me catch up AT ALL! I felt so embarrassed. You shouldn’t be teaching if you can’t deal with beginners! On top of the insane money grabbing membership, their late/ cancel policy just doesn’t have any room for understanding. TTC delay? You can’t enter the class. You can’t even control something like that and when you can’t enter the class they won’t return that class back to you so you basically wasted your money

I still stand on the fact that it was confusing and why it can be seen as misleading because the weekly charges aren't advertised as largely as the promotion. If you're unsure, please don't do what I did and be surprised by charges on your card weeks later, CALL FIRST ! I've updated to 4 stars mainly because her customer service was amazing, she sorted everything out for me and I'll now be able to take the classes I had already paid for. I honestly would have continued had I known everything upfront but now I'm relieved and excited I actually can attend. Will update after classes. Original review: Beware, the promotion is not what it seems. You're only allowed ONE class a week and you're still charged $30 PER week so the whole "oh its only $28 for 4 classes" is bull bc you're only ALLOWED 1 per week so at the end for that "$28" trial, you're really paying well above. Not to mention, you have to pay to pause your membership lol.

This is not a good place of buisness. I signed up for the trial . Payed online for 4 classes 28$ plus tax. And now they’re charging me this amount weekly . I tried calling but they don’t reply. Seems like no one wants to work nowadays. I left a few voice messages and even though they have more than 4 people working in the front desk , no one got back to me. Mind you I’m not the only One I joined with a friend and she’s having the same issue. I live far but I guess the only way is to go there physically. What a sketchy place.

Such a nice place to improve your dancing skills and have fun! The best thing is that you can find almost any dance style your interested in - from ballet to hip-hop and k-pop! Choreographers are super nice and experienced, overall very good vibe and energy boost after each class!

I sadly have to rate this company 1 star. My partner cancelled her membership with the front desk who told her it would be taken care of, but then after a few weeks realized she was still being charged. She was no longer taking classes there, and when she asked for a refund she was told no because you can’t cancel at the front desk. Clearly the person at the front desk was misinformed but that is not our responsibility. It’s been months and they are refusing to refund the full amount saying she can use the classes still. We have now moved and there is no way for her to use these classes. This whole experience has been horrible as customers. Instead of just refunding for the classes she was charged for after canceling they have forced her to go back and forth and still not refund. This is extremely unfair to your customers.

BEWARE SKETCHY PRACTICES My experience with the trial class felt dishonest. - Free trial is a TRAP, it rolls over to an auto renew weekly membership that charges without sending an email receipt so it goes under the radar. Make sure to cancel if you don't plan on staying. Never seen any kind of fitness studio adopt this kind of practice for obvious reasons. - Customer service was helpful and was able to refund me which was great. - Cancelling your "membership" is a confusing and almost impossible task. FOR THOSE WHO ARE LOOKING TO CANCEL THEIR MEMBERSHIP: Go to the "Membership Management" page on their site --> "Memberships for in-studio classes" --> go through their 10000 step form, where at each step they try to convince you to stay with your membership --> cancels. would be a good idea to email them as well to confirm.

My favourite place in TO to sweat to some beats! Classes cover a variety of genres, styles and best of all schedules for every working human. The teachers are gorgeous and want you to succeed in goals you set for yourself, cuz every body is different and responds differently. Special shout out to my faves Jenna Shortt and Oleg Kasynets <3

Just over a years ago or so I was experienced a crisis where I realized I always wanted to dance but never did. I was very nervous when signing up for my first dance lesson at The Underground Dance Centre, but was greeted by nonjudgmental teachers who push you to challenge yourself, kind front desk staff that remember my name when I come in, excellent customer support over email and a wide range of different styles of dance. If you were to have told that frightened girl who had never stepped foot into a studio before that she'd be attending 3-5 dance classes per week regularly, she probably would have laughed you off but here I am. Thank you The Underground Dance Centre for being my home away from home.

It is very easy to navigate the app and set up your schedule. They let you know in advance if a class is canceled last minute. The studios are really clean and the stuff is nice. All the dance classes I’ve taken so far had amazing instructors. I also brought my friend to classes. Can’t wait to keep dancing in the new year! :)

Do not come here if you’re visiting. They do not have a drop in rate and only offer weekly memberships. I paid $32 for one class. They can’t cancel it for you in person even though I asked. They charged me 6 days later for another week. Another $32 after tax. I ended up paying $64 for one class. I emailed to get a refund and they told me they could save the classes. I was in town for less than a day and told them that endlessly but was forced to sign up for the membership. I had already made my way to the studio at this point. I wish they had been more understanding in general. Bad business.

The Underground Dance Centre is the best! Great variety and availability of classes, great teachers, and awesome support staff. Shelby is particularly awesome when I've had to make changes to my membership. She's always very responsive and helpful! If you're thinking about joining The UDC, you definitely should! A great experience for beginners or rusty dancers! Aaron Scott, Kelly Ann and Zahra are wonderful teachers - just the coolest and committed to your success. They are super professional, impart wisdom and guarantee a good time. Such a fun way to get exercise while challenging yourself with a new skill / hobby.

Class sizes are appropriate, starts on time, ends on time.Instructors (especially Kaleela!! love her so much) break down moves and explain in different way for students, while also paying attention to performing. Not just doing the movements. Overall, honestly the best studio. Worth the money, worth the commute downtown.

I would recommend Underground as it is accessible and convenient for Downtowners. I recently enjoyed Joey A's classes there. His class has been a fresh of breathe air at Underground as his energy and teaching styles are unique and electrifying. I hope to see him there and help dancer's like myself grow and develop under his teachings.

It's a bit expensive but I believe it's worth it.. the classes are fun and they really encourage you to get out of your head and just dance.. they have a class for all skill levels

The Underground Dance Centre is indeed the best dance studio in Toronto!! Before going for the first time I read the reviews and I saw everyone was saying the same and I've confirmed it. I have been in classes of different styles and all of them were AMAZING! All the coaches do what they do with passion and are patient teaching each move to create a positive experience for everyone. Oleg is the best, each class is super fun. Every time I leave the studio I do it feeling empowered and inspired and my favorite day of the week is when I go to Underground. Also, Shelby from the Customer Experience team is very helpful and kind. She replies very fast and always answers my questions. I would give more stars if I could.

Absolutely amazing organization, facility and staff. Big shout out to Shelby and her team for a wonderful customer management experience. I was left in awe with the amount of courtesy and attention they gave to me; this especially offline (rare to see these days). Took my first class here for dance EVER and the instructor Ocean had a deep groove, love for her art and poise while teaching. She made it easy to understand and I felt so motivated. I went there once before the pandemic and my experience was amazing. It was very affordable and there are so many choices. I literally would love to stay there and take Evey single dancer. The choreographer was very helpful. They go above and beyond. I can't wait to go back and learn different types of dance.

I only have great things to say about my experience taking hip-hop classes as an absolute beginner at Underground. I decided to come here because of all the great reviews, and also due to the number and variety of different beginner street dance classes offered at different times. Dance classes aren’t cheap anywhere, and membership pricing can be expensive if you don’t use it, but I feel like I’m getting good value. I’ve taken multiple classes (more than 30 classes in just a few weeks!) with Daniel, Carl, Jee, Dequan, Teniya and O’Shani, and they’ve all brought a great energy - and teaching ability - that made me feel welcome as an absolute beginner, and I had fun even when I felt challenged by the class. Taking classes continues to be the highlight of my day. I consistently leave classes sweaty; feeling looser and more confident; having learned something new; a bit better of a dancer; and with a smile on my face. On top of the classes themselves, Shelby in customer service has been excellent. From the start Shelby has been communicative and made me feel taken care of. When I had an issue with billing - and twice now even before there could have been an issue (due to my error) - Shelby has proactively and promptly addressed the issue, and contacted me right away to let me know it’s been dealt with. I would highly recommend trying a class - or variety of classes - at Underground Dance Studio.

We had a private dance class in the penthouse studio as part of a bachelorette party and it was amazing! I coordinated with Nicole -- she was super responsive and the entire booking process went smoothly. We chose the song and the choreo was so fun. Our instructor did a great job bringing the energy and making us feel comfortable even though we didn't all know each other and were beginner dancers. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun activity

I love this place. Dance studios always keep me connected and give me a sense of belonging to the places I’m living in. And I could not ask for a better experience in Toronto. The dance instructors are very talented and knowledgeable and wonderful people. Dawson is a gem. The staff are super welcoming and they say bye too :D

I have been taking classes here on an almost daily basis for the past two years and it's honestly been life-changing. I came here with zero experience doing anything remotely creative in my life. Not only did I gain confidence dancing, but I learnt about listening to and feeling the music, using your imagination to perform and perhaps most importantly, I learnt to be patient with myself, tune into what I am feeling in my body, respect myself and set boundaries. I mostly work from home and dance classes are the highlights of my day. Personally I never had any issues with billing. There were occasional mess-ups where I would have a no-show fees for a class I showed up. Shelby is really communicative with her email responses. She always made sure those charges were revoked. Highly recommend classes here. The only thing is the speakers can be quite loud in some classes. I experienced some noise-induced tinnitus... So be careful to not stand too close to them in class.
