A great place to pick up a quick lunch. They offer sandwiches, salads, coffees and desserts. It's self serve. Place your order, get your food and grab a seat. Gotta love a place that has a Fiat car right inside. Enjoy! P. S. NOT to be confused with Bar Mercurio across the street with a similar name. It's a sit down restaurant.

This place is honestly pretty pricey, but the food and coffee were pretty good! They have lots of seating and a huge selection of sandwiches. It’s a great place for a light lunch or coffee/catch-up with pals.

A nice cafe with great tasting sandwiches. The pesto is nut-free.

Cute cafe, but they have a bit of an identity crisis. When I went on a Saturday afternoon it wasn’t too busy. I get the feeling it was built for a crowd, but I didn’t see it. For lunch the only food they have is what’s in the deli counter. There were about 6 types of sandwiches and pastries. A few of the sandwiches looked like they were drying out (egg salad and tuna salad). I had the roast beef. The bread tasted homemade. The sandwich itself was a bit dry. I also had the tiramisu which was great but $8. Many of their items were gluten free. I ordered an iced espresso beverage to dine in. All drinks are served in a generic paper cup and come in one size. The prices were some of highest I paid in Toronto. The staff was friendly. What I wish is that they used their full kitchen. Offer sandwiches and salads made to order. They have a beautiful kitchen that’s under used. It would also be great if they offered different size beverages.

Sandwich is a little on the pricey side but good taste and good vibe so well worth it. Coffee is a little small in portions compared to elsewhere. Note that it can get really busy at noon so expect a slower service rate around that time.

This is a great coffee place with good food! I passed by to grab a cold coffee and a smoked salmon sandwich and let me tell you!!! it did not disappoint. They have a car indoors that makes for great pictures. The indoor environment is super clean, so you could come here and work or read a book. They also have this patio area in the back with nice furniture. Makes you forget that you are in a city for a while.

The quality control has unfortunately diminished including their espresso based drinks (#coffeegeeksknow!). Twice now since I’ve been back after returning to the office, I’ve been so disappointed with the sandwich and worse my lattes. Sadly, I won’t be back as it is no longer worth what you pay for when there are many better options around the campus. Lunch options are limited to sandwiches of mediocre quality. Customer service is also no longer friendly. I don’t see the old manager and noticed a couple new people. Though I recognized restaurant staff has a high turn over especially during the pandemic. New management perhaps? Either way, it’s unfortunate it’s no longer the place it used to be. I’ll move on as well. I also won’t be recommending this place for work related meetings. If it’s struggling due to the past lockdowns and the pandemic and hence the changes with the food selections, it should try to maintain high quality on what’s currently being offered and provide that friendly service and atmosphere to bring back customers.

I cannot recommend this place anymore. The location is great and that’s pretty much the only thing going for it. I asked for an iced mocha (very normal order) and they said they can’t make an iced mocha but can make anything else iced. How hard is it to make a mocha and put ice in it? Anyways I asked for the drink that’s similar to it in sweetness. I was recommended an iced vanilla latte. I took one sip of it and it tasted disgustingly bitter and left an awful taste in my mouth. What a waste of money. Just truly perplexed why they can’t make an iced mocha. The biscotti is good though!

Update Sept 2023: the cafe has been renovated and improved with more open space and streamlined counter area. I've visited a few times since my first review and there was always a vegan pastry option! No vegan savoury or sandwich, yet, though. Friendly staff, with an inviting atmosphere to work or study. The coffee is good, too. We didn't try the food, but hopefully there is a vegan option for the next visit!

After not visiting Bar Mercurio for a while, my experience was disappointing. The old menu is gone, and it’s a “bar” service cafe with a few sandwich and salad options. My beet salad was $14.95, packed in a small container and refrigerated. It contained leaves, a few slices of beets, cheese and nuts. The cappuccino wasn’t great. It felt more like a student cafeteria than the lovely cafe it once was. I’m curious if there was a change of ownership.

Mid restaurant that charges for the bread that your sandwich comes on … separately. I had to ask the cashier why I was charged for bread and she said that the bread was charged separately and never told me beforehand. I can’t believe we’ve entered the era of micro transactions for sandwiches. Probably won’t come here again considering the ridiculousness of that

Great coffee from a local business. Pretty busy , so there is sometimes a wait for a table. Reasonable prices for drinks and food.

A very good French café on Bloor St W near University of Toronto. Great ambience and vibe - nicely decorated with French café vibe. Big windows overlooking a small garden that’s open in warmer months. And there is a vintage Fiat in the front. In fact when I visited there was a table of French (Parisian French !) speaking students in the corner. Formidable! I had a double Americano - very good. Strong with lots of crème the way I like it. Also the câpres salad sandwich. The sandwich was generously portioned (I like that!) with crispy focaccia bread creamy caprese sliced watercress tomatoes lots of butter and garlic. Lacked salt but otherwise très bon!! They also sell pastries and coffee beans. Will definitely be back to try other things!

They don’t have plugs, but they have a nice shaded patio. They also have some tables by the Bloor St. The latte was good, a bit pricey.

Absolutely disrespectful to customers! I was sitting at the nearly only table where I could have my laptop charging and I was asked by a worker to vacate the table because it just became “reserved”. When I asked how the table, where a customer who paid for a sandwich and coffee and is currently sitting, should be immediately vacated, the answer was that this is a table for 4 people and one person cannot sit there. If not the absence of other table where I could charge my laptop, I would be ok moving, but I needed a charger. When I offered a compromise that I will charge my computer for half an hour and then will be happy to move, I was told to leave the table immediately and was offered a place in the extremely loud corner with enormous echo where it is impossible to hear your own thoughts. What a terrible experience and a way to start your day!

Good coffee, huge sandwiches and nice interior. Convenient location ( I had my breakfast right before I went to pay ROM a visit).

Great space and location. Patio is shaded and a great place to work remotely. Coffee is quite good. I recommend they provide actual cups when people stay (as oppose to paper cups) to really maximize the experience (paper cups make you feel like you are in a rush).

I enjoyed an iced vanilla latte and a blueberry cheese danish. The service was quick (early afternoon on a Monday) and there was ample seating.

Good for a quick lunch and coffee stop or to meet people. It’s a convenient location and well placed on the edge of the UofT campus. Service has a bit of an attitude, but not enough to not like it. The water in the tea is nice and hot (unlike Starbucks). They are used to regulars who know their menu and service so if you’re new or relatively new here, ask.

Got coffee & pastries a few times over several days while at a conference across the street. Great selection of food & pastries, ok drip & good espresso drinks. Had no issues with staff in my experience, kind & considerate.

I really love this place :) the student special is a great value! The sandwiches are delicious and taste so fresh. The staff are friendly and efficient. I love the outdoor seating!

Cafe latte was pretty good. Iced latte not so much. Coffee is served in a paper cup even when dining in. No lid. Music gets too loud, not the cafe vibe you'd expect. Overall interior is really nice, with patio seating outside too.

A cute little cafe. Had a delicious latte and a raspberry dessert. It was quite crowded around 11am, but there's a lot of seating so everyone was able to have a seat.

The place was highly recommended to us, but we received very unpleasant service from the woman at the counter. In addition, we asked to buy coffee to take home, and we were sold a one-pound bag, but when we got home and weighed the bag, we found out that it was about two-thirds of a pound, and the coffee was not ground the way we requested, for a mocha pot, so it could not be used as we wanted.

They were fantastic in seating us, offered us choice of seat by window to watch parade or in private room. We chose latter as we were in parade...hot chocolate was simply rich and delectable. I'm coming back for brunch for sure

Only good thing is the location. Staff could be nicer. Premium prices for sandwiches, cookies, and coffee are unjustifiable given sub-par quality. Have only ever gone here due to time and convenience. Would not recommend.

Lovely setting, nice food. However, for the prices being charged, I should not have had to ask for a plate and cutlery nor listen to a (senior?) staff person loudly upbraid other service people (not other staff) about some deficiency.

The vegetarian sandwich had a delicious flavor, although the bread was slightly overdone. The ambience was stunning, but the outdoor seating lacked charging outlets and became uncomfortably hot during the summer season.

Great location and lots of space inside and patio. I am a fan of Rapini! Mushroom Rapini Panino was fabulous! Lots of Rapini and mushrooms with cheese.

They are not the best on individual scales (e.g. service and bean quality), but rather decent when everything combined. Their pastry is a must try, everything I have tried so far did not disappoint me. The best thing about their pastry is that they are not too sweet, and rather focused on the quality of the ingredients, which is a rare find for desserts in North America. Their service is not too overwhelming, but polite and responsive, nothing to complain about. Salmon croissant not worth it, don’t order. The noisy environment is good for me to study. The coffee bean they used for espresso is darker medium roast, with a note of caramel and cocoa, and definitely not burnt. Good good. Approved by uncle shark.
