Many times passed by, but I always wanted to see, up close, the handwork of the artist, sculptor Walter Seymour Allward. I wasn't disappointed. Impressive artistry, craftsmanship and meticulous details of the statues, is as good, as could be. It's difficult to imagine amount of work and time to achieve results like this. Interesting fact: his studio assistant, Emanuel Hahn delivered the Memorial of Sir Adam Beck, across the street, few steps south of Queen Street West... And I almost forgot: there is a mistake on the plaque. Hehe. He is rolling in his grave. Inspirational! Hats off with admiration for the job well done. Worth the effort. Time well wasted. Yours to discover.

The South African War Memorial is located at University Avenue and Queen Street West in Toronto. Majestic and exquisite. In 1910, it was led by James Mason and designed by Walter Seymour Award to commemorate Canada's participation in the Boer War. The monument's granite columns consist of three bronze statues at the base and another bronze statue at the top.

Toronto landmark in the middle of university Avenue at the intersection with queen street west. Beautifully crafted with great detail. Recommended to see in old Toronto.

Great memorial to the fallen of a war long past. Historical elements are very detailed as well as the allegories. The fountain does draw the attention further, best seen during the summer. Well maintained and sits well even with all the modern buildings dominating south of the intersection. For Canadian history buffs or passerby, a nice stop to sit and reflect even during a lunch break.
