Nursing is a tough profession. I know how busy they are however, I spent a week covered in blood and fluid from a leaking chest tube. Not once was I given a wash and asked several times for a wash cloth and basin but was provided with nothing. Most nurses were pleasant but there's always one. "T" was horrible. She continually rolled her eyes when I asked for my medication. I was in severe pain and crying when she asked me, quite rudely if I had emotional problems. Why she chose nursing as a profession, I'll never know. She was pretty mean to the very sweet older man in the room. I guess some people just chose the wrong profession. Pretty sad.

Picture this : my dear beloved parent in the back of my car sick and unable to really move, me running into the hospital emergency to ask for someone to help me bring him out. Then being told by the volunteer teenager at the door of St. Mary's hospital in Kitchener, ON that no one is there to help me bring him in and that is nothing they can do for me. So in my desperation, I had to call 911 to get the ambulance paramedics to help me bring him in. As soon as the paramedic saw my parent they said, wow he doesn't look good (not kidding, why did I call 911). Then waiting with my unstable parent in a small wheelchair that clearly should had been switched to a stretcher, but no one seemed to care. The nurse at reception advised that because of insurance no one is allowed to go outside and help me. They are not covered the moment the step foot outside. There I was, fixing my parent's head to stability, watching so he did not fall off the chair, looking around to see if anyone would help, to see if anyone care. After almost 5 hours we got a bed and then 11 more hours to run tests in between long waiting episodes. I give credit to the amazing nurses that make the place tic. To you ladies, Thank you. They truly are overworked and underpaid and took such good care of my loved one after all. We made it after 16 hours, but the taste in my mouth (partly from not eating or drinking anything) was that I saw very little humanity from a hospital emergency room that I have personally seen received millions of dollars in donations every year. Perhaps doners should be made aware that when someone has an emergency on the emergency entrance, no one can go out and help. This is the same government of Canada that has shut down for more than two years and tells us they care.

I thank the staff of St. Mary's General Hospital from the bottom of my heart for saving my loved one's life with grace, kindness, expertise and excellence. Every single housekeeper, tech, nurse, doctor, surgeon and staff were absolutely amazing and God given gifts to us. We were all (patient and family alike) treated with kindness, dignity and respect throughout the duration of our entire stay while on CVICU and 3West. I am forever grateful to St. Mary's for the excellent care we received and the miracle of life through open heart surgery that my loved one received. God bless you all and continue the wonderful work. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I'm impressed with everyone who works at St. Mary. Looks like it's a very good workplace. From the security guards and intake to nurses and doctors, everyone is kind, polite, and professional. I received great care and am thankful to all staff. Great teams! Unfortunatelly, I had to go there several times lately. They do all tests quickly and answer to all questions in language I understand, as non-medical person. 5 out of 5 stars. Other hospitals should go there to observe and learn how it's done.

Over the last few months I had two medical procedures done at St Mary’s hospital. The experience was very positive both times. From entering the hospital and being directed and guided to the relevant department to the efficiency of the medical staff who performed the procedures. Everything was explained in detail. The procedure itself was carried out with the utmost care and expertise. I was prepared for some after effects but experienced none of them. I appreciated the good service I did receive, thank you!

I attended St.Mary’s on April 30th At 9 am after I had fallen down 4 stairs the day before. Dr Curtis was wonderful but the nurses? Deplorable and as a nurse myself it was disgusting. I worked at GRH for 35 years I have not seen such apathy. I asked to lie down…..”oh if you have to” No comfort or caring treatment as I had broken my back. They spent more time sitting at the desk.

They are kind, compassionate, structured, organized and very efficient in their work. Saw 2 team huddles during a 2 hour period. I've never felt so taken care of. In and out in less than 4 hours. Great team they have in the Emergency department. They are doing something right. :)

Cut my leg pretty bad and needed stitches. 3 hours from start to finish in the emergency room on a Friday evening. Nurses and the doc were all lovely. Very patient and personable. Can't blame the staff for the wait! Happy to cut my leg and need stitches from them again ;)

Its heart day at st Mary's.i came in with a heart issue *heart palaptions and symptoms of heart attack .I was seen by first nurse described symptoms told to wait in room.i waited and withing seconds was asked to move I moved over I was again to move .I moved over again a third time I was asked to move for privacy. I did ,I then waited for a patient to be seen and then was hoping to be seen due to emergency I was having the nurse then proceeded to call 2 separate people to schedule them for tonights shift well I'm standing their gripping my chest . I was called up Immediate stated that the nurse should be registereing patients over staff scheduling issues prioritized staff of the emergency room patients. should never happen I was then asked to be queit and let her register me she aske me a question (have I stayed overnight in the hospital in the last (##)I responded no and only no nothing else .apperantly my response of no had to much tone and she told me to leave the emergency room or security will be called.i then called ambulance to the front of the hospital to take me to another hospital which they ran tests and deemed its an issues so I ended in awhole nother city *(cambridge)well having heart issues which EVEN now stuggling with this was today on heart day you turned away someone struggling with heart problems.when people talk about healthcare workers only working for a paycheck they mean hospitals like with workers like that . You can't take any constructive criticism whatsoever and punish the public for saying anything at any point with any tone because I was not rude this directly affected me and it's funny this is not the first story that this has happened recently and I do plan on making a deal about this like this cuz no one cared for the half an hour that I was struggling out front of this hospital with heart issues on heart day

I think the only good thing about the hospital are the staffs. Really friendly staff. But you can really feel that emergency I’d understaffed. The hospital was dirty. This is the dirtiest emergency I have ever been to. Timhortons cups lying around the floor with Napkins, papers. Lack of facilities. No rooms. People are everywhere. They have put beds on corridors.

By far the worst experience ever, I came into the ER seeking medical attention because I have a fever of 103, and difficulty breathing! I finally got into triage, over an hour after I arrived. (I understand. It’s a long wait but the nurse in the ER took a 20-30 minute break from the desk with no one covering her) Anyways, I proceed to tell the nurse that I’m having difficulties breathing, it feels like someone’s giving me a bear hug and crushing my chest. She then proceeds to tell me that if I couldn’t breathe, I will be done and her ER, I laughed because I thought that having difficulty breathing along with all my other symptoms. She then accuses me of arguing with her, because she doesn’t believe that I can’t breathe. I’ve been sick for over a week and now I’m waking up in the middle of the choking, trying to catch my breath. She didn’t listen to my lungs, she didn’t write any tests. All she did was starting to call security on me because she didn’t “argue”. And then left the hospital without any medical attention! I went to the hospital and advocated for myself, there’s a nurse in all pink, pink shoes, and blonde curly hair, who sits in the ER and register patience would not believe me, will not listen to me, it’s threatened security on me because I was trying to tell her I was having trouble breathing, and she would not listen. So thank you to the staff at St Mary’s for absolutely nothing.

What an amazing team work in the emergency department. Nurses and doctors were so energetic and passionate about their work. I was there this morning and I was so impressed with their team work. Wait time wasn’t too bad comparing to RVH in Barrie (I have only been there other than St. Mary’s). Took a really good care of each and every patients who were there including me. I really appreciate each and everyone of you in the ER department for your valuable time, hard work and dedication. God bless all 😊🙏🏼.

I just wanted to say thanks to Dr Good in the emergency department. I was having a few different issues one night and came to the hospital. Dr Good was very kind and caring, and the ED was very busy, but she still took the time to address my issues and determine that I had some severe anxiety issues going on. She suggested a few options and even set up a couple of patient services for me. Thank you so much, I do appreciate you!

I’m the only patient in Ambulatory care. I’ve been here for hours, and all the doctor standing across from me talking to the paramedics about his personal life needs to do is LOOK at my EKG and explain what’s happening. K thanks.

Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff for their service. It's really appreciated. However, couple words to management: With $185,000,000 granted from government in last fiscal year, with number of staff around 2,000 people with salaries expense spent $145,000,000 in last fiscal year, gosh, how can it be acceptable to have wait time in emergency room for 5+ hours?!

After all those millions spend in hospital and health experience going in when you have emergency is worst like going in what you called 3rd world countries. (You will be surprised where we get  better ER care ). At the registration process guy didn't have patient to allow us to tell him what is the problem or to listen us, they have some comment between staff about our language skills what was disrespectful . After registration reception was quick to call in for EKG after I ask them if we can get blood work done as well he role his eyes and smile like sure sure we will do (it was clear he didn't mean to add that). So 3 hours later we have doctor talking to us asking if we did blood work (joke right?). ... we told him we didn't so another 2.5h before we was again talking with doctor After 5.5 hours later nothing was done and no diagnose , person that didn't eat or dring water 3 days was send home saying to relax..??? If you try checking ER online waiting times estimate don't work for sure at least 6 mounts  or more , when you arrive there is no info on waiting times or how many patients are waiting and if you gather courage to ask you will be quickly taken down not to be inpatient... Now understand that it is not easy to estimate times but for humanity sake, because of kids, old people , people in pain, people that need to organize somebody to be with kids there must be some better way  to estimate waiting times. Looks like we will be better off having private clinics so they try their best and you can chose clinic that works best for you. Current system is NOT FREE as we are all paying for it. (Not talking about surgery and other procedures but triage and 1 level of care)

Excellent group of people, very professional! Had the worst night of my life, my dog had his first seizure and he accidentally bit my mom. My mom is not very fluent in English and My dog was having seizures again. I was torn between taking my dog to the Vet ( Which I did the first time but staying with him at the Emergency Vet ) vs staying with my mom to help her communicate with nurses and doctors at the hospital. The staff was very understanding and accommodating. After talking to the staff I was confident that my mom is in great hands. I was able to take my dog to the Vets and stay with him and my mom got the best help she could get with or without me. Thank you team for being awesome!

I wish I didn’t have to write this, my senior mother was taken in via ambulance on May 14th with severe pain in her stomach that went on for days. She has an ulcer and diverticulitis and has had kidney stones in the past. She did not see a doctor for 5+ hours…coming in via ambulance as the pain was unbearable and the paramedics stating so at the desk. They did not give her anything for pain or IV fluids that she desperately needed “until the doctor came by” so they just left her to lay there with no one checking in or any source of comfort. The doctor didn’t even sadly find out until the 6 hour mark about her health history and sent her home shortly after with no further testing ordered claiming it was long Covid and handed her a pamphlet. To sum up, my mom has requested to never be taken to this hospital ever again. So disappointed and heartbreaking because we want to cheer on our Canadian doctors and nurses but they need more support, education and assistance to help people!

Kudos to the amazing Emergency Department staff or shall I say Earth Angels, who handled this morning’s extremely busy, well chaotic, influx of patients with such calm, care and compassion. They did an amazing job of addressing everyone from providing blankets, ice packs and finding space for patients when none was obviously available. I left there in awe of the amazing staff. They deserve so much respect and kindness for what they do, every single day. With much gratitude.

I was brought in in an ambulance after a fainting spell and I was treated like a king. The doctors and nurses were all amazing. A special thank you to Nurse Practitioner Daniel, Nurse Practitioner Cressman (I felt like talking to her forever) what a sweetheart! Thanks for the crackers and cheese 😁. Dr Ali was super amazing and kind. Thank you all for the work that you do saving lives. You all made me want to become a health worker. Couldn’t thank you enough.

I experienced bad left chest pain for 8+ hours. I was too stubborn to go the hospital because I was worried it would take too long to be seen. As soon as I arrived, my pain went away. I felt silly to even bother. My husband said I should get it looked at anyway as I am pregnant. To my surprise, I was seen right away and there were several tests done on me. Lovely staff too! Coming back in Oct to give birth and feeling a little less nervous about.

I went to emergency at 10 am, left it around 11pm. Doctor requested Xray for me. After it is done, several hours later, doctor then requested CT scan for me. One nurse did IV wrongly to my arm and caused my arm was expanding and extreme painful during CT scan. Doctor thought the result was useless and requested second CT scan for me. Both quality of service and quality of experience were poor during my visit.

I am currently in hospital with collapsed lung. A nurses aid just brought me a fresh cup of ice water. I thanked her and asked would she please take the empty. She replied are you well enough to get up and walk? Then throw it out yourself. Wow is this the standard of care st marys is striving for?

I had emergent open hiatal hernia surgery in June 2023. Dr. kilmurry was my surgeon . I can’t thank him enough. He has been fantastic throughout the whole process and continues to be now. He is the best surgeon. Who has the most knowledge and gives the best patient care. I trust him totally. I received the best care from his team as well. I have to also mention Heather Goody NP. Her compassion and care is something i will never ever forget. I spent 3.5 days in the ICU following my surgery. Even though some of that I don’t remember due to having some brain fog. I want to thank all the amazing nurses and staff for the care i received there. As well all the amazing care I received from all the nurses and staff after being moved upstairs to the 3rd floor. I’ve always heard how amazing this hospital is..but when you become the patient and realize all that is true you become so thankful. I could not be more grateful ❤️ The best hospital by far!

Thank you, Thank you, thank you to everyone out there starting from emergency front desk to doctors and nurses , visited this hospital yesterday with my daughter for her ankle injury and was amazed at their service. Everyone is so kind, professional and very well organized . They immediately offered help to my daughter with pain relieving medication, X ray was performed to check any cracks in bones, ,attended by doctor immediately. The doctor explained the whole situation to us very nicely. The front desk assisted us from main lobby to the emergency services personally, and from there we were assisted by another gentleman towards the Xray room. GOD BLESS YOU ALL And keep up the good work.

One problem to another, from unclean environment (dirty floors, windows, desk, beds) to rude employees. I think it was Sarah who helped us first and she did her best and commend her for that but chatting with Brandon D, who comes across very rude and entitled (I know he is a VP because he titled dropped it 3 times) the state of this hospital doesn't surprise me. Wish I read the other reviews before choosing to go here. Everyone seems to have the same issues and change starts from the top down maybe its time to do some reflection in that board room. This hospital used to be a go to location for many of us a few years ago, and now it should be people's last choice. Hope I don't have to go here again.

Had a 4/5 experience myself (came in for days-long chest pain and heart concerns; staff were quite friendly to me and Dr Green(e?) was very attentive and patient in addressing my concerns) but witnessed someone else being treated quite rudely by some of the staff. A woman limped over to a desk giving a status update about her leg starting to have some pain, when she originally came in for major chest pain. The assistant in a very rude tone said "well you came in for chest pain and now you say you have leg pain and want it checked out; so which do you think is more important??" when these two could be related especially regarding blood clots. The more experienced staff are nice and friendly. But the more junior ones/students/interns/what have you that don't wear scrubs? Incredibly shallow and rude. Total wait time was 6hrs, not many people when I went.

Best hospital for emergencies in the Tri-Cities! Great staff and very effecient service! I went to Cambridge Memorial hospital 2 night Inca row and a combined 20 hours waiting time... I went in for an ablation on September 6, 2023 and I do not have words that can describe my experience. From registration to discharge this was an outstanding process. All staff were extremely professional and helpful. The or/recovery room nurse were awesome, Dr Chan was the best with a fantastic bedside manner, the anaesthetist was great AND the nurses of the PHIU Unit are true angels. They quickly dealt with my anxiousness while the did what was needed to prepare me for the procedure and to be discharged after it was over. Thank you to each of you from the bottom of my now functioning heart.

Brought my wife here today through ambulance and she’s pregnant. Shout out to the doctors and younger nurses who where respectful and showed that they cared. But some of these old timers that are so called “nurses” have to be re trained and should be taught to respect patients. Shame on this hospital for allowing these type of individuals to “care” for those who need it. The triage nurse made two people in wheelchairs walk to the place they were going to and the audacity by her part, “Well you came here without a wheelchair right? So you can walk” stop trying to sound smart bu saying that! Wheelchairs are hospitals for reasons right l? SMH with what I saw today

Absolutely horrendous. I was refused any xray or ultrasound of my shoulder because it was diagnosed with tendinitis 3 tears ago. Even when telling the doctor who "examined" me in ambulatory care that it has becoming worse and worse. To top that off I had multiple people pushed infront of me with similar symptoms.

I went to the ER as my throat was very swollen and was in a lot of pain. Aside from the fact the one of the check-in lady’s was extremely rude. When I final got to a doctor he looked at me said i was completely fine and gave me no pain meds. I went to the walk in the next day and found out I had tonsillitis and was given 3 didn’t med to take. This is unacceptable behaviour form a hospital I was in excruciating pain and he basically gaslight me for coming in saying it was nothing and what I had was normal.

They could care less if you died. I got told by a clinic I need to go to the hospital for X-rays and bloodwork to make sure I don’t have meningitis or pneumonia and the doctor laughed in my face when I told him I needed that and told me I just have the flu and don’t need any testing. All the nurses did was yell at people that couldn’t speak English really well, seems pretty discriminatory to me because anyone that could speak English they didn’t yell at. There was a guy who literally looked and sounded like he was dying and all they did was yell at him. The amount of people that have probably died because these doctors and nurses are incompetent and disregard human life is probably insane. Absolutely disgusting & they should all quit the practice in the medical field. The only person that actually cared & was nice was the nurse taking the ECGS. Props to her.

St.Marys is the best compared to the rest around. Staff are excellent and nice. But it would work more if the place is clean. I had a visit for ER, and the place was so dirty with open trash filled, and the floor was not clean at all. 🙃 Other than that, everything was smooth and handled professionally. Cheers!!

Staff and nurse are the best. The hospital is in need of repairs. The room my wife was put in after having major heart surgery. .Had a big chunk of Plaster missing from the wall right behind the bed..how do you sanitize that. Upper management should get their back side out of their ivory tower and tour the hospital. They might be in for a major eye opening. Another one that made me shake my head was..the man door entrance beside the revolving door never closed properly in the 6 days l visited the hospital. A simple adjustment of the door closer arm. Were was maintenance ?

All staff at St. Mary's hospital were very nice and friendly. The front desk nurse was so kind (unfortunately didn't get her name) and she brought a blanket for my daughter as she felt cold. Dr. Nicholas Lant was very knowledgeable and kind. He takes time to listen and time to explain. Very satisfied with Dr. Lant and all the support staff.

today (Feb 14, 5pm) was my first visit to this ER room and it was very much better than the Grand River's. The nurses all seemed to be in a better mood and the young ER doctor was quite understanding and kind. The wait time was less than half of that of Grand river. Things I thought that could be improved though were how the young worker at the entrance of the ER room was just sitting there and staring at people who came into the room and selectively offering guidance. She didn't greet nor guide people as they came in but offered help only if one seemed completely lost. I thought she needed to be more proactive. Also, I didn't like how we had to speak of our personal information (address, phone number and medical info) in front of all the other patients in the living room. Lastly the initial waiting area were quite loud and hectic with hospital personnel walking into and through the area. Some were talking casual things very loudly as if the waiting patients didn't exist. One worker came with a buggy with her baby without a uniform and just went in and out of the triage nurse area like it's her living room.. Beside these minor things the visit was excellent and I appreciate the people who made it the way it is. Will come again, thank you!

My first visit to St Mary's ER, and I am so very grateful for the treatment I received. Every single staff member I encountered was efficient, polite, engaged, and caring. I walked in feeling shaky and scared, and walked out feeling I had been cared for, and confident in the things I had to do next. Intake, preliminary test, everyone who had to move me around, x-ray tech nurses... everyone was amazing. Thank you for your care and support.

Amazing ED and medical imaging staff. Took my son to have his hand injury checked out today, and everything from arrival to triage, registration, physician assessment, and X-ray took less than an hour. Everyone was kind and pleasant. Results took a bit longer which is understandable, but with the cast application and the nurse going over discharge instructions, we were out of there in less than three hours total. Excellent care and experience.
