Very nice art museum with a great inventory. Many pieces of art from both renowned artists and artists I never heard of before. Unfortunately as of this review, the new building that they had been working on for years was not open. It will be opened towards the end of July from what I could gather. They gave us free entrance passes to return when the new building opens. I am happy I got to finally visit this museum as it had been closed for my entire time in Buffalo. Would gladly return and would recommend to others.

Absolutely in love with the AKG! The architecture is stunning and love the layout/flow of the galleries. The staff were truly spectacular. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. My son asked about work by Mondrian and Picasso and the staff at reception marked the pieces on the map with ease. Amazed by how many paintings by the Greats -- quite a collection and of renaissance, contemporary, impressionists and sculptures. Parking underground was a breeze. Wonderful morning -- time well-spent!

Didn’t really satisfy with the exhibited work here except the sound making chair and the neon frame. Unique architectures in the front and back of the buildings. At least they have special price for college students. Good view for a wedding theme!!

Beautifully redone museum. The brand new wing was delayed in opening but the refurbished section and new entrance show the time and effort put into the project. A must see and n Buffalo. Make sure to schedule enough time to enjoy the wonderful collection.

Why so many staff? Not useful! One white female staff followed autistic individual and myself around as if we were going to steal something! As special need customer enjoyed the colors he was seeing, spelling words he saw, taking pictures at various exhibits for his mom: this staff member kept telling autistic individual who enjoys saying, HELLO!” to people he sees, DONT WALK HERE! DONT STAND HERE! And the most rude part was TELLING INDIVIDUAL TO BE QUIET! Even church and library staff don’t say that to a special need person! After being harassed a number of times, we left before seeing all the museum had to offer! A waste!!!! Nice architecture! But, we won’t be back! The white female staff by the ‘Soup’ art display around 2:15pm on Thursday, July 13, 2023 should be reprimanded:( The highlight of being at AKG was being in the yellow Lego kiddie area that displayed the art as individual drew on green trimmed screen!

An amazing experience. You just have to be there. I'll advise getting tickets online. Start at the first floor and work your way upstairs. It's best visit in pairs or a group. Try to see the Mirrored Room and Reflection Room too. Take along a pair of socks.

Great art museum with pieces from many famous names. Fair prices. Can spend a couple hours here wandering around. Lots of green space around the museum, makes for a great stroll.

It's one of the must visit museum if you are into modern arts. Few of the artifacts are mesmerizing especially the morgenthau plan painting. I attended the museum when they were having $5 for the family. They have it one day Every month what a lucky day to be there. The tour was informative it's amazing to know the stories behind the art.

The remodel is absolutely phenomenal. I am so in love with the new space. Mom and I attended during the opening week on a Friday. Wear comfy shoes, but the elevators are a welcomed addition. AKG has an excellent set of exhibitions, including works by African amercia and Native american artists and work by artists produced during the pandemic. I was thoroughly happy to see they have Clyfford Still back on display too. We didn't get over to the old Knox building, but I can't wait to go back. I could write a novella on the design features that I love, but you must simply see for yourself.

The AKG has always been a 5 star art museum. It’s been over 20 plus years since I last visited, the new addition is gorgeous. Really blends seamlessly with the old and new. We didn’t have time for a full tour, but we were thrilled to learn that the atrium has no entrance fee and now includes the famed Mirrored Room”. This interactive piece has always been a crowd pleaser and it’s so great that so many more can now experience it. And it’s great they are ensuring it’s preservation as well. Believe me, it’s 1 min of wild fun. The outside grounds are great for a stroll and in a beautiful setting.

This is a great representation of what is to the world! The beauty in different aspects between arts and generations with different materials is well represented in this location. I recommend it to each and every person that comes and visit the city of Buffalo. It’s definitely wheelchair assessable and very accommodating to any persons need.

It's been 10 years since my last visit which is far too long. But I was watching the construction and when I heard they completed the new addition I had to visit. First the building itself old and new is art, the architecture is always a combination of ancient rome meets modern day technologies. Let's start with the cafe with fresh made pastries that my boys absolutely loved. Onto the youth exhibit with the Lego room which was very interactive and got imaginations working. Then the mirror exhibit unfortunately leaving in January which left everyone with smiles and a great video. Onto the new addition which features 3 full floors of displays capped by a large piece that wraps around the basements exit into the parking garage. I believe our visit lasted a total of 3 hours and the impact to keep a 5 year old and 8 year old engaged was a highlight. But no talked about enough was the absolutely fantastic staff. Everyone was not only friendly but knowledgeable and that placed the experience over the top. I was proud to see the improvements and after seeing the new vision I have to say this is a must go. I'm planning a fall trip just to see how the lights during the season change interact with the building and another trip after a heavy snow fall in winter. The way the architecture melds with the art and how it dances with the light is stunning. This was a treat.

We did not expect this museum to be so big and have such a wide variety of exhibits. I highly recommend this museum to any art lover. The variety of exhibits is exceptional. I would highly recommend visiting this museum. You'll need to give yourself at least two or three hours to see and appreciate the extent of the exhibits.

Great experience, the place is very modern and the technology that they have used inside the building is also amazing. The items present in the museum are minimal but the infrastructure and the design gorgeous. Took some great pictures and loved the art in there.

An important small gallery with an astonishing array of familiar artwork across numerous movements and genres. Balla’s little dachshund in motion; Picasso ; de Chirico; Monet ; Degas painting and sculpture. So much more. Thoughtfully laid out in spacious well lit rooms with good visitor flow. And soon, a whole new wing to show off even more of the collection. Stunning entryway and beautiful grounds, along with an important collection, the AKG merits an afternoon of your time. And a return visit

Always a great experience, hoping they'll continue First Friday's when they reopen, the Art of Hip Hop was always my favorite. Also saw the Picasso exhibit a few years back and, it was a really wonderful experience, just to be in that building is an experience, it's one of the the top reasons Buffalo is the best city in the world.

I was absolutely impressed and delighted during our last week's visit there. Beautiful blend of older and modern architecture, impressive collection of art, professional, very friendly staff, a very well-kept and maintained art gallery, and I can go on and on. We took the 11am complimentary tour offered, and we were privileged to have a "private" tour by the Docent Barbara (we were the only 2 people having the tour that day and that time of the day:). I highly recommend having a tour, and when you have a great docent like we had, it is even better. Thank you, Barbara! This was my first visit at AKG, but not the last. There are so many things to see, not too far from home, even if it is across the border.

My biggest disappointment is that it took me nearly 20 years to make my first visit to the Albright Knox Art Gallery. The building itself is a work of art and as you enter, the walls tell a story as they hold each work of art with great care. I was in awe as I was walking from piece to piece. Every piece is interesting and beautiful in it's own way. I've learned to appreciate and love art as it's an expression of the artist. Trying to view each piece of art as a vision of the artist was truly enjoyable. I'd urge everyone to visit at least once. I simply cannot wait to go back.

Located in the Albright section of Buffalo, this Art Gallery is a lovely one with it being the 5th oldest museum in the United States. With a variety of art and cool creations, there are paintings, creations, and lots of other stuff, as long as you follow staff instructions and NOT touch anything you will be alright.

There aren't enough superlatives to describe how beautifully liberating this space is. The architecture, alone, is reason enough to visit. With the art housed within, it's a must-visit when anywhere near Buffalo. The open-air design invites the visitor to slow down and truly contemplate the wonderfully curated and highlighted works of art. Once the parking paucity is addressed, the AKG (Albright Knox Gundlach) will be even better.

Great museum with friendly staff! While I was disappointed that the works by Nam June Paik and Tony Conrad were not on display, the rest of the museum was fantastic. Organized very nicely and the staff seem to actually know what they're talking about and care to be there, whereas in other museums I've found the staff unhelpful and miserable. Very welcoming. There's a nice LEGO installation for children as well, if you are bringing any.

We've spent a lot of time at the AKG back before the new addition. We've yet to see all of it yet, but we certainly plan to. The old plaza/open space in the Bunshaft addition is now the square, and is enclosed and open to the public. If the new addition is as cool as this transformation is, it will definitely be worth going to.

I love AKG. The way that the exhibitions are curated, you feel pulled inexorably into ieach new room. The glass bridge is a beautiful experience. You become a part of the architecture, as nature and architecture blend and become part of one another. In addition, there is a fascinating connection between new world contemporary art, and the old world classical art. It is a great connection between American art and European art. It is recommended that you start from the first floor, go to the third floor and finish the walk through the 2nd floor. That really makes the experience so grand. It is interesting to think starting from the present, from the now going into the past.

I think the Albright is one of the most important and incredible Modern Art museums in North America. I'm never disappointed with my visits to this World Class Gallery. They have great examples of all the contemporary artists you should know about. They're about to undergo some major transformations/renovations so get there if you can in the fall of 2019 or you'll be waiting a while! The current Anthony McCall installation is incredible!!!

Such a beautiful museum. Very interesting pieces of art. The day I went I didn't know it was their annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. The admission was pay what you choose. They sang carols and we sang along and it was actually really fun. The rows of the auditorium sang a line of 12 Days of Christmas, one line per row and I liked that it was interactive. There is artwork outside the museum as well. As a Buffalo State College student you can get discounts to the museum.

Really cool museum and friendly staff! Worth a visit. I really enjoyed how many different media styles were on display and how engaging the whole museum was. I loved how they encouraged people to talk and discuss the art, it was busy during opening weekend and everyone was talking and interacting loudly—the way a museum should be!

Great art collection! Many samples of Impressionism, Cubism, Abstract, Pop Art and other Modern Art exhibits. The 1905 building itself is a fine architecture sample and the outdoor sculpture gardens round up the visit. There are two free public tours everyday, plus activities for the little ones. Coffee and Gift shops available. Parking space is limited and separate flat fee is required. Overall a very good experience!

Great place for a weekend getaway, interesting pieces of art and various paintings are a feast to the eyes. The place is clean and well maintained, there is a theatre at the 2nd floor for art shows and presentations. Various structures lie outside the gallery too, which are photogenic spots. There is a fountain made out of utensils in the middle of the hallway, good to look at maybe. They also have a small souvenir shop inside, if you like collecting stuff. Overall, a good place to spend a couple of hours, click some pictures and do some fam jam.

This museum is dedicated to collecting contemporary art. The 19th and early 20th century holdings are fine, but the collection really shines at the mid-century mark. Make sure to cross the land bridge to access more of the 21st century collection.

The whole experience was surreal, for the entire time i was in this museum complex i couldn’t believe myself i’m in a museum in Buffalo! Friendly staff, guides, exhibitions also downstairs was having this little fundraising music event which was super cool. Since the third building was still under construction, we were given two extra tickets to revisit when it does open! I was thoroughly surprised by such treatment of the guests here.

The Albright Knox boasts a huge, rotating collection of art in a beautiful building. Low prices for entry and friendly staff make a museum visit perfect for a Rainier/snowier day. Cafe prices are a bit restrictive, but free lockers and the size of the gallery make up for this.

This place is a hidden jewel. It's not large but has very impressive collection. Some paintings from their collection would make an honor to a major gallery in a capital city. Salvador Dali, Picasso and more. Definitely worth of visiting if you are an art lover.

An amazing gallery. Beautiful location, easy to get to, readily accessed parking. The collection of art within is spectacular & beautifully displayed. Our lunch in the cafe was excellent and very reasonably priced. Even the prices in the gift shop were reasonable! We really enjoyed our day and will definitely be back. Buffalo has so much going on these days. What a great city.

I only get here once every few years, but this is one of my favourite two or three galleries anywhere. Such variety, great innovative work, solid modern and contemporary classics and daring, relevant new work. I wish I'd gotten the name of the woman who greeted us and sold us our tickets: so helpful, interested, enthusiastic, and seemed so delighted after we'd finished our two-hour walk around the gallery and told her how much we loved it. Other staff seemed nice too, though the security staff was a bit dour, but perhaps it's their job to be a little unpleasant and intimidating. The special exhibitions were challenging and exciting; great to see the Sol De Witt stairwell walls complete with their intricate pencil drawings.

Great. As expected. Only downside is they're expanding/renovating, so most of their permanent collection has been put away from public eyes. Too bad. However, the current show Dark Rooms, Solid Light is fantastic. Beaming you to other ethereal realms.

  • 4/5 Harry B. 4 years ago on Google
They have some good pieces by some famous painters. Picasso, Frida. When I was there, I also saw the Anthony McCall exhibit "Dark Rooms, Solid Lights." It was set up in the entirety of their older, classically built section. They took full advantage of the space to present a truly captivating experience. They are about to undergo some major renovations so I felt like it was missing some things. But I'd be interested to see it when the renovations are complete.

The upcoming remodeling / two year closing of Albright Knox art gallery this coming November has made the trip less than worth the time. Most of the great works have been packed up in participation leaving a huge part of the gallery with s less than inspirational study of light and dark by Artist (?) Anthony McCall. Called Dark rooms, Solid Light. Way to little in the way of mental/ emotional stimulation. Hopefully better exhibits will show upon the reopening in two to three years.

STOP THE ART..... STOP IT NOW This is another building where you are walking around Delaware park and you think you are in the Roman Empire. It is just too fancy! Why not spice the place up a bit. Why not paint it hot pink? Why not turn the place into a massive club with wild lights, dance music and karaoke? We do not need art! Art does not do anything for anyone! Artists should be spending their time PRODUCING! She should use all of that creative energy to devise ways of making burgers and fries more cheaply, cars with more efficient engines and passenger planes with more leg room. STOP THE ART.... STOP IT NOW

The museum is in construction prep mode. A selection of paintings - excellent ones - are hung in a series of corridors. Where the noise echoes from one end to the other. Some of the more iconic paintings are to be found as posters in a desultory display in the shop.
