We enjoyed the basic tour (2 options avl: basic is 75 minutes and premium is 120 minutes). We didn't ask what the difference between the 2 tours was, but since 75 minutes fit into our schedule, we chose it. It was an interesting tour and the tour guides were quite knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. I would like to view the gardens in late spring or summer as the grounds appear to be meticulously maintained. We visited on April 1(too early for blossoms) and it was snowing and quite windy. Photos are only permitted while OUTSIDE or inside the conservatory. No photos allowed inside the house whatsoever. A short (8 minute) and informative movie started off the tour that provided a background on the relationship between Wright and Martin. The attention to detail and design of the home was exclusively Frank Lloyd Wright, including the furniture throughout the home. There were many references to the rather large basement which was supposedly used for some entertaining, however, that is only viewable with the premium tour. In our opinion, the basement should be included in the basic tour since it is referenced throughout the basic tour. At the very least, it should be identified in advance of purchasing your ticket so as a consumer you are aware of that option and make an informed decision. Very clean reception area, well maintained restrooms and friendly staff.

We went on the shorter 75 minute tour and it was fantastic! Both Eileen and Paula did an excellent job telling the stories of this beautiful home. The tour starts with a 9 minute video about the history of the Martins, Wright, and the building of this house. There is a cafe and a gift shop on site that sold lots of Frank Lloyd Wright merchandise that can be found at all of his other homes. We have a NARM membership so the two of us were able to get in for free! Well worth a visit if you’re in Buffalo.

Beyond beautiful from every angle! Recommend the tour and gift shop. The gardens, ground, atrium are absolutely gorgeous. Found great items in the gift shop. Bought a few things I can use everyday and be a reminder of Martin House as well as unique items. Visitor Center had an excellent array of photos showcased in lighted displays in a historical timeline. Tours and self-guided tour options available.

Amazing rehabilitation to the tune if $50M+! We took the shortest tour- 1hr 15 min. The tour starts in the new building (award winning architecture itself) with a quick film and then a walk though the first and second floors of this historic creation of Frank Lloyd Wright, one of his earliest projects that helped catapult him to the fame he attained as a premier American architect. Absolutely beautiful rehabilitation and detail.

This was my first time visiting. I was very impressed with the complex. The 75 minute tour was well worth it. It was worth traveling for. The detail that went into the design of the house is breathtaking. It was encouraging to see the efforts of this group to restore this house to what it was like over 100 years ago. Loved the tree of life stained glass. The detail that went into this place was better than some of the other FLW houses I have been to. If coming to Buffalo this has to be on the list to visit.

We visited the house with Jack, and it has been an outstanding experience. The house is a time capsule where you can see how the ideas of Frank Lloyd Wright have influenced XX century abstract art. Highly recommend.

Amazing architecture, but it definitely shouldn't be ranked No.1 attraction in Buffalo. $80+ for 4 people and pictures could not be taken of the interior. The neighborhood is quite beautiful as well. (Vintage houses) Overpriced gift shop, but cool bird.

My wife and I took the two hour tour on a Wednesday morning, our tour guide was Dave. Dave was absolutely fantastic, and very knowledgeable not just about this particular property, but the history of Frank Lloyd Wright's work, his life, and other properties. There was not one question that was raised which he could not answer in-depth. He was very engaging, which made the tour actually fly by. We have been to many Frank Lloyd Wright properties around the country, and this was undoubtedly one of our favorite tours. What's unique about this particular property is you get to see Mr. Wright's genius unleashed with an unlimited budget from Darwin Martin for design and construction. We highly recommend this tour!

Oh my God, where do I start? Our tour guide is very informative. We did the least expensive tour, wish we did the 2-hour tour. The pain staking restoration of this piece of art Architecture is magnificent! Thank you to the craftsman, the artisans, and the backers for saving this for future generations. The design, the eyelines, the thought and design going into even a narrow nearly hidden window encompasses the brilliance in Frank Loyd Wright's design in Martin House. If you are on the fence to see this home, jump over Nd come in. You will not regret it.

We had a great time at the Martin House tour!! Jim gave us a lot of great information and we learned a lot. I loved how the house doesn't seem to echo even though it's open. Highly recommend this little known FLW gem!

One of Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpieces in architecture, known as Prairie style, which aims to be organic, making it part of its environment and trying to blurr the transition from the nature outside to the living areas inside. Beautiful inside and out, superb gardens. Enjoy!

I’ve been there on 4th of July and it was closed. I will go there again in future. I love all masterpieces of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Amazing house and it’s very well preserved. I took the basic tour at it lasted around 1.5hrs. You can ask as many questions as you want and the tour guides are very good experts in Wright’s architecture. Take the tour, is the only way to go inside the house. Indoor photos are not allowed. There is a 10 min video presentation at the begging that really helps understanding the historial context of the house. Take time after the tour to look around the house and see some cool old houses in this historical neighborhood.

Such a cool building. Didn't go in this time but I've been on a tour in the past, had lots of fun back then with my cousin and aunts. Architecture fans will enjoy it

Beautiful and impressive. I did the 75 min tour. If you have the time, I would suggest taking the 2 hr tour because I left wanting to see and learn more! They did an awesome job restoring the property. It felt like history untouched.

What a treasure! This was my first FLW project to visit and I’m pretty sure the bar has been set. The information center is incredibly well designed with plenty of information. The tour is fantastic and well worth the price of entry. The Docent was kind and knowledgeable. Then the house itself is nothing short of a masterpiece. The crown moulding woodwork is incredible, the art windows are perfect, the tiling is brilliant. The “flow” of the home is unique and offers moments of intimacy and awe. Well ahead of its time. I wish I could have taken photos inside, and I would have loved to explore the basement, as I’d wager there might be some hidden creativity there as well. 100% a must see for any art and design lover.

Took the 75 minute docent led tour of the home. He was so well informed on the main things you'd expect to learn, yet the small details he wrapped in made it a really neat experience. Going online to get tickets is needed, I'd do so as far ahead as possible. My friends and I found ourselves wishing we'd been able to take the 2hr tour; unfortunately it was sold out.

You could visit everyday and still find new things to see, new stories to hear, and meet the most fnatastic and enthusiastic staff and volunteers all sharing their own stories of Buffalo, The Martin House, the Martin Family, and Frank Lloyd Wright. I highly recommend making reservations in advance. The 2 hour tour has access to 3 houses on the property. The Museum Store is amazing!

Great experience at Frank Lloyd Wright's Martin House! . Wright's architectural genius is well explained both on the tour and by the movie at the beginning of the tour. The tour also gives the history of the home and the home's owner Darwin D. Martin. Did the 75 minute tour which takes you both inside and outside the house. Once inside the house each room is explained in great detail. The most interesting parts of the house are probably the conservatory and the sunrise fireplace. As with most Frank Lloyd Wright houses the furniture design is second to none. The barrel chair and bookshelf are the most memorable furniture designs in the house. Gift shop was good, some items were over priced, but they had a lot to choose from. Be sure to purchase a ticket online in advance. They do offer a few different tours. Photography is not allowed in most parts of the house. If you have been to other Frank Lloyd Wright houses and not yet seen this one, it should be added to your list!

It’s was a nice little tour, it lasted about a hour and a half, we toured the front of the house and then the first floor and a few rooms upstairs and then the conservatory. I really wanted to tour the whole house for the price I paid. But nonetheless this is Frank Lloyd Wrights design so I’m not surprised. The grounds were well kept and our guide knew her stuff. I enjoy touring estate homes and this one did not disappoint.

Touring the Martin House was a fantastic experience. I did the 2 hour tour on a beautiful spring day. It was very informative and nice to visit the upstairs. It was hard to believe it was designed and built in the Victorian era. A VERY highly recommended tour.

The amount of detail that went into restoring this beautiful house and property is incredible. Our tour guide Mike was enthusiastic and funny and made the 2 hour tour go by way too fast. Definitely a must see when going to Buffalo and they can really use the investment of your entrance fee to continue the restoration work.

Collette was a fantastic Docent for our private tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright Darwin Martin House! This place is absolutely incredible. Frank Lloyd Wright was a genius of architecture and design. And was so far ahead of his time...

Excellent 2 hour tour of possibly FLW most significant projects. The restoration is amazing. The docent was very engaging and informative. If you have even the slightest interest do not hesitate to take this tour.

A wonderful walk through the past visions of amazing architecture from a man who was a great artist and designer.the attention to detail of everything you could possibly think of.the use of wood and brick blends together perfectly.a must see if you are in the area.

It was one of the best tours I've ever gone through. Our guide, Keith, was both extremely knowledgeable and interesting. The house was absolutely stunning. There were no glass cases or red ropes, and it created the intimate feeling of touring someone's private residence.

It's SO difficult to describe some things that are so beautiful, artistic, and so meticulously designed with attention paid to the smallest of architectural details that, I'm afraid, words can never do justice to this magnificently designed building. The best thing is to come here, do the walking tour (we did the 120-minute Plus tour with a wonderful and knowledgeable docent called Jim) and see everything for yourself. The Plus tour gives you access to the main Martin residence, carriage house, gardener's house, and the Delta Martin house/guest house. You will wonder where the two hours disappeared to, because it's not enough time to see all the details of FLW's architectural magic. Parking is on the residential streets around the property. Buy your tickets in advance and come prepped to walk and stay on your feet for the entire tour. No inside photography allowed, which was a bit disappointing, but free to take pics of the outside of all buildings. Recommended!

Excellent tour! Knowledgeable tour guide. Very thorough overview and great history. It is truly a beautiful property. The grounds are amazing as well. Absolutely a must see.

Holy Holy Cow! What an amazing place to visit. We did the $22 1 hour 15 min tour and loved it. They do not allow interior pics. For a 1904 home, this is amazing. The way the architect constructed the house from the outside-in. The same bricks you see on the outside compose the inside walls!

An amazing restoration of a unique architectural treasure. This mansion by Wright for Darwin Martin is located in the picturesque Central Park neighborhood, laid out by Olmsted. They've finished the gardens, and after being established for a couple of years, they really look full, and enhance the landscape a lot. During the restoration, many of the original fixtures were donated back from families who acquired them when they were sold off (or perhaps scavenged while the building sat abandoned), really recreating the feel that Wright was really crafting when he designed it.

An amazing building designed by one of America’s great meat architects, Frank Lloyd Wright. The museum is very informative about the owner, architect, and events surrounding its development and construction. The tour was great, about 2 hours and it did not feel too long nor too hurried. Both inside and outside grounds are meticulously designed. Also the gift shop has lots of neat items.

Martin house is wonderfully maintained with major portions actually reconstructed from original photos. Our tour guide was great with natural ability to engage the group while being informative. We were disappointed that they don't allow photos inside the house as other FLW homes do.

Prime example of Lloyd's work. If you like architecture, it is a must see. The neighborhood is also really nice and worth checking. However, there is not too much to see if you are not a big fan.

We did not take the full tour but had a look from outside. We went for a short visit and did not have time to wait until tour started. I wish if we can buy tickets and have a look inside on our own pace rather than spending a lot of time following a tour guide.

  • 5/5 L T. 10 months ago on Google
They offer two tours. The 70 minute tour is only the main house. The 2 hour tour is of all of the buildings. If I had realized that we would have taken the 2 hour tour. The house is in a residential area, so be sure to arrive in plenty of time to find parking and walk to the house. It is interesting and the building has many original pieces of furniture designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The history of the Martin family explains why the house was designed the way it was. Unfortunately, when you go upstairs you only get to see part of the house. It would have been nice to see more. You can only take pictures in specific areas, mostly outside. Nice gift shop with beautiful items.

Visiting from Texas this place is a great insight into Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. It’s also places a great insight into contemporary architecture and design as this house sets a precedent of residential architecture. The tours are great and the docent we had was knowledgeable and helpful throughout our tour.
